I'm just a Portland movie geek who sees a lot of movies and writes a lot of blogs. I got lucky enough to be invited by a friend to attend this screening in Portland.

I just moved from Portland to Louisville, KY, but I was around when they were casting this. I'm glad I got to hang out in the city long enough that I may recognize some of these places he uses.

Drugstore Cowboy was neat in that way. 'Course, I was seeing 80s Portland as compared to 2006 Portland, which was disconcerting.

Anywho. Thanks for the review. I applied for that goddamn job at the Willamette Week for film criticism and got kicked in the teeth! If only ... if only. Sigh.

Moriarty! Original? He admits that his new style is based on Bela Tarr's films in several interviews. Morover he even orgenised screenings of Satantango and Werckmeister Harmony in New York. Check those films out.
Elephant was the worst movie I've seen in years

Although I look forward to Van Sant's film about 9/11, where the firefighters are all sexy surfer boys who spend the movie aimlessly wandering the burning towers while nothing happens.

i've been disappointed with van sants output since drugstore cowboy, which i do think is a great film. if this is a return to form, i'm skeptical, psycho remake? my own private idaho with it's pretentious shakespearian bullshit? last days, elephant.... enough already, the guy is a hack or too busy eating the turds out of his own asshole, either way i've been tricked into watching his films one too many times and mostly the best thing about them has been a very deep sleep that often i fear i may not awake from. And don't get me started on his novel...

there's a site called Youtube that is devoted to just that principle. "ME & MY CRAZEE BF SINGIN LAFFYTAFFY LOL LOL" ... which I'd still rather watch than anything Van Sant's done lately.
