... I don't know if I like this idea. This is just as bad as Warner Bros. even THINKING about turning "Green Lantern" (the coolest of all the DC superheroes... a man with no fear wielding the most powerful weapon in the universe) into a lame comedy starring Jack Black. I mean, I love what Seth Rogan does, but he's not the Green Hornet, and Jay Baruchel is definately not Kato.
So, do they *want* to go a comedy route?

I'm so glad Smith pussied out of this project. Now he can go have his stupid proms, dote on his junkie friend, and do his crap two-shot porno/horror movies. The man is a complete egotistical waste and I feel this will show how much talent Rogen has over a hack has been with no creativity left.

Jason Bateman as the hornet Bruce Lee goalie (shaolin soccer) as Kado or give me death! ARG! I just can't imagine the Green Listener chubby and furry, sounding like he spent the night hitting the gravity bong. Not that the green listener was cool to begin with, but Rogan,s manboobs should never share the screen with Kado. Besides...if this project is for real (and I hope it's not) Rogan will soon realize Steve Carell would be a much better hornet...he even looks like him. Seth if you read this talkback (I'm guessing you might) DO NOT FUCK UP KADO or you will have all Hong Kong Lee enthusiased boycotting your films in China. I love Seth Rogen, Apatow, and friends, and I'm all for them being very successful, and doing tons of comedy. One thing I am against though, is when someone who becomes popular all of a sudden is able to do whatever they want, especially things that aren't suited for them at all. This is one of those things. Please, don't overexpose yourself like Vaughn/Stiller/Ferrell did.

Seriously, he's perfect for the part...if they were to do the material justice and not go down some bullshit comedy route. And Will Yun Lee for Kato.

Honestly, no matter what your opinion on Rogen is, he's too short, fat and blind to play in any way a convincing Green Hornet. This is like trying to cast Jon Stewart as Batman, it doesn't matter how much you like Stewart some things are just wrong.

Sheer and UTTER stupidity!!!! This is the fricking character who put BRUCE LEE on the map! The Green Hornet ain't a comedy anymore than Batman is, and the coolness of the 60s Hornet show (played straight) vs. the campiness of Adam West's Batman simply proves this point.

Wake up HOLLYWOOD (and any fool who thinks this might be a good idea): Superhero films should be played STRAIGHT, NOT as goofy comedies!!! Transformers GOOD, Meteor-Man BAD! >:(

PLEASE, everyone... for heavens sake, go to http://tinyurl.com/35j2k9 and see what a REAL Green Hornet film could actually be like... and then kick yourself in the crotch for EVER thinking that Seth Rogan should be allowed within 50 miles of ANY superhero film!

will come out of retirement to play the bad guy for this flick. Also I'd like to see She La Beef as Kato. Kevin Smith will get a part as Seth Rogan's Green Hornet stunt double. The love interst can be Grey from Grey's Anatomy. And while we're at it we can bring Clooney back into the fold by letting him play an overweight C.I.A. angent who is investigating the connection between the overweight Green Hornet and Middle Eastern oil. Steve Carell coming in at the end of the movie to save the day in Noah's ark would be icing on the cake. In all honesty I'd rather see Rick Moranis as the Green Hornet. Where's that guy been for the last ten years?

but I dont know if they should, y'know waste the property as a comedy. I mean a modern day Starsky would be tough to buy (see-Dukes Of Hazzard movie, Miami Vice movie) but...I know we are getting a lot of Superhero origins movies nowadays...but I reckon this could be a good straight up proper superhero flick-the drama of findng your heroic ancestry, the toil of continuing the legacy...sure you can have a bit of comedy in there...but it has the potential to be done seriously....and making fun of the story seems a bit too easy-it would be much more of a challenge to make it a "proper" film rather than basically a spoof-thats just the easy way out (not that comedy is easy to write, but ya know what I mean). But then again we saw a Hollywood fuck up the Silver Surfer whose relationship with Galactus alone could have made a movie so..... However,Knocked Up still isnt out here-but I remeber Rogen from Undeclared and saw a lot of potential...

He was supposed to be the new jim carrey. I dont think that will ever happen. It seems to me that every once in a while hollywood likes to create these new teams of people. now its judd apatow and Seth Rogen and others and they will make a bunc of movies and someone else come along. it happened to Ben Stiller and the wilson brothers.
Green Hornet was lame
by Dopenose19
Jul 20th, 2007
09:34:02 AM
The GH was super lame, and any moive that tried to take it seriously would be awe-ispiringly boring. A comedy makes more sense, given the premise: Rich guy with too much time on his hands tries to play master detective/hero, and badass martial arts assistant is constantly having to save his ass. I can totally see it, as long as whoever they get for Kato can seriously kick some ass.

Say anytime Will Ferrell steps out of his element it's been a disaster? Stranger Than Fiction anyone? Great movie. Underrated movie. Will was great in it. I don't think enough people know the Green Hornet to stop this from becoming a comedy and the world caring. But with all the lame shots in this TB at Smith for being a one-note pony, what about this team? So, we know the GH and Kato will get high.... The key here will be who's cast as Kato. If it's Jet Li or Tony Jaa this project has a chance to be something more than just a goof. Obviously Rogan will have to slim down, but as long as they cast an action star in the Kato role, Rogan can be the straight/high man and make it work. Still, this reeks of "Lets just get this project off the ground!"
Do people really care this much about GH?
by Calihoma

10:15:03 AM
GH is no icon like Batman, so they can't really F it up for me. The best part of GH was Bruce Lee, so if they get close to getting that right, then I'm there. I'm thinking Rogen and co. gave one hell of a pitch to get the job, so I'm interested.

by panicdawg
Jul 20th, 2007
10:23:48 AM
Yeah, I understand why everyone is up in arms about a "fat" superhero, but let's look at this bitch realistically; Rogen has not, as of yet, let me down with a project he's been involved with. He's a nerd for this kind of shit, which is good. He's a fantastic writer and a REALLY nice guy. I've met him on several occasions. (Of course, he wasn't quite as "famous" back then) Does everyone need some hunky dude with glistening pectoral muscles as a superhero? Why can't we have someone NORMAL. I think this is an inspired move. I'm not saying the movie is going to be amazing yet, but it's gutsy and I applaud the studio for letting someone who is actually passionate about the project take a stab at it. Now you guys might remember when the world went up in arms because Michael Keaton was cast as Batman. THAT was considered a joke. And guess what.... nobody, including your favorite boy-toy Bale, will ever match the dignity Keaton brought to that role.

if done set in the 30's and taken seriously GH could actually be a decent film. Don't get me wrong, seth's a funny guy but why take a superhero and make him funny thats never worked before unless its a spoof on superhero's (the the incredibles), but if seth wanted to make a comic book satire, he's smart enough to make up his own, not take an already established world and make a farce out of it...joel schumacher already did that and look how that turned out

Anything Seth Rogen touches turns to gold, so I'm hardly worried. Are there any actual Green Hornet devotees out there who would seriously care if a new approach is taken?

"Are there any actual Green Hornet devotees out there who would seriously care if a new approach is taken?" uhm YES and this idea sucks major ass. Green Hornet is one of my favorites and putting some whiny, doughboy in charge of the whole thing is the worst idea ever. Obviously they're going to make this into some stupid disposable "comedy", because no one in their right mind would take a fat, pasty jewish nerd as a superhero seriously. And I can't believe some of you a-holes are so caught up in the hype that you actually think this is a good idea.
Hate Seth Rogen...

The Green Hornet as a comedy?

In plain English, FUCK NO. That show was the staple of my childhood, along with Zorro, Batman, The Saint, & The Wild Wild West. Look at how they fucked up The Saint & WWW. No comedy, no way. Play it straight on a gangster & corrupt political level, with lots of action & martial arts like that recent fan film that was done, and you'll have box office gold.

sounds like appropriate news on the day HAIRSPRAY is released. Seth Rogen as the GREEN HORNET is a Tracy Turnblad story. Hey...even a fat, homely guy can be a movie super hero!

Someone already mentioned the Green Arrow prison flick, which sounds like a great idea. I think it's a wonderful way to introduce unfamiliar audiences to a second-tier character and at the same time give us geeks a bunch of references no one else will understand. And the bonus: no origin story! I'm also looking forward to the inevitable Green Lantern. I've been ranting and raving about this for some time but I think it's time they had a superhero tale set in outerspace. Maybe some New Gods action?
Uh oh.

I love how, if you'd tried to get anyone in this thread to care about the comic book Green Hornet a week ago, they would have been "eh", and now everyone's furious that they're mucking up this "classic" property. Because, you know, it had SO much potential as a serious superhero story. Also, people getting steamed at the idea of a comedic superhero...or a fat superhero...or (for heaven's sake) a JEWISH superhero, seriously need to bone up on their comic book history. Good lord. Because, you know, Jewish people have nothing whatsoever to do with superheroes. Sheesh.
Prankster, I wouldn't mind a Superhero comedy so long..

as it was actually funny. My reaction to this stems from the fact that there has never been a funny superhero comedy. Superhero films can have the elements of comedy, like the Spider-Man films, and be a little self-consciously cheesy, but a flat out comedy only for some reason does not work. The only thing that ever worked was The Tick and that was a TV show cartoon. I guess The Venture Brothers counts but again not a movie. This subgenre just does not work. Maybe it's because superheroes are so inherently cheesy that it's too easy and the writers get lazy.

I agree with ScamsAndFlams and Calihoma... Green Hornet does not have a huge following, so it's unfair for you to give the film so much backlash just because it's a comicbook movie and you're comicbook junkies. Additionally, it's not fair to pigeonhole Seth Rogen into saying that he'll only ever do fat guy buddy comedies -- comedians are perfectly capable of also making serious films. Look at Jim Carrey, whose best performances (Eternal Sunshine, The Truman Show) were in dramatic roles, even though he was best known for his earlier comedic work. I think it's great for Rogen to be taking on a dramatic role so soon after achieving commercial success, because it will allow him the versatility that so many strictly-comic Frat Pack actors lack. I'm definitely looking forward to this film!
KILL this project!!!!

OK, a few years ago we had Jim Carrey playing "The Six Million Dollar Man." Announcements were made, a director was hired (Todd Phillips), and we were well on our way to a cinematic train wreck. Luckily, that project was abandoned. HERE WE GO AGAIN. Geezo-petes!!!! What is going on with Hollywood? Come on guys! What are you thinking? SETH ROGAN as The Green Hornet!?!? You know, it's find and dandy that Mr. Rogan grew up on action films like "Total Recall" and "Die Hard" -- so did I!!! And I sure as hell didn't have to watch Danny Devito on Mars or Bob Sagat crawling through air ducts in Nakatomi Plaza!! The first thing everyone is going to say is "Michael Keaton played Batman." Yeah, and he was pretty good in it too. But that was Micheal Keaton, and here we have Seth Rogan. Nope, I don't see it. Not AT ALL. Is he going to lose 50 pounds, straighten/dye his hair, and shave? Putting all of that aside, he's too YOUNG! It always fascinates me when an actor takes on a role against type so he or she can "prove" that they can do it. I don't care if you can do it! You don't have anything to prove to the general public or me! Just hire someone who FITS the part and won't evoke images of getting high and vomiting!!!! Give me an actor who I won't have to struggle with while watching the movie. I don't want to have to sit there and think "ok, hey, maybe this will work." I think a lot of people want to walk in and already accept the actor in the part -- especially when it's Super Hero. Kevin Smith had the reigns on this project a few years ago (THAT would have be a great picture). He's an actor too. Did HE say he wanted to play The Green Hornet? Nope! Now there's a smart guy! It's really mind-boggling that they AREN'T doing this as a comedy. But I'll be the first to say that a comedy of "The Green Hornet" would also be a HORRIBLE idea. The Green Hornet should be DARK -- he's perceived as a criminal. It should definitely be similar in tone to the recent "The Dark Knight." In the 60's, producer William Dozier had a hit with "Batman" on TV as a comedy and even he was smart enough to make "The Green Hornet" serious. (Yeah, I know, it only lasted one season...but they DID get it right and it is appreciated a lot more these days). IF you go the "comedy route," take a look at Russell Mulcahy's "The Shadow." That worked marvelously and is highly underrated (mainly because not that many people saw it). At any rate, The Green Hornet's color has nothing to do with marijuana. You want a good idea? Cast Ziyi Zhang as Kato. There's a change that would be interesting. This idea....horrible. Who the hell GREEN lit this at Columbia Pictures? Good Lord somebody bring back Frank Price like NOW! Here's hoping whomever did gave him the go ahead in secret hopes that he'll realize he is NOT the right choice as lead. If you want to write it, produce it, direct it -- fine. But all I can say is, "Mr Rogan, step away from the camera."

So we have been waiting for years for a GH movie and now they give it to these guys, and mark these words, it will bomb big time. The reason these guys only do comedy and will not de a serious movie but one that makes the GH look like a loser. WTF???? Do movie studios pay attention at all with these characters, you need only look at what was done with Speed Racer, to see what happens when you pass off to people who wont treat the characters with respect.. Unreal.....
