I just never would have thought of it. I await this eagerly. I just wonder if this will put the kibosh on the real Plame film that the Butterworths are writing that Sydney Pollack may direct? Robin Wright and Tom Hanks are circling it, or so I've heard. By the way, I have a very artistic role in mind for Ms. Farmiga. Lots of nudity will be required. ALso, fuck first posters, even if I am.

How is it that some directors only work on one topic?

Not that it's a bad thing, but it just makes me wonder. I can see how somebody can be a Horror director or an Action director - somebody who's particularly good at a specific genre. But what about these guys that only deal with the same subject matter? Like Romero and his zombies, doesn't Lurie have any other film making ambition besides making political themed movies? Deterrence, The Contender, running Commander in Chief. Even his first short had political undertones. I guess The Last Castle is different enough, but it's still kinda about politics. Can anybody else think of anymore examples like this, of filmmakers that only work on one subject? It would be like me only making movies that deal with time travel.
I quite liked THE CONTENDER, but I haven't seen it sinc

Gripped America like no other trial since OJ. When the sentence was passed down, you could hear all 4 people left in the Air America studio jumping up and down and cheering. America stood still on that day.

Political films are very popular these days. Perfect time for Lurie to do his thing.

The Contender was great until the end with the bullshit "this is for the girls" speech. Prior to that it was a crawl through the dirty swamp that DC was built on. Total cop-out.
I would've picked Naomi Watts for Plame

I second what thebloop said. The 'leak' trial that ended up convicting someone that didn't leak anything about a CIA employee that wasn't covert. Riveting stuff I tell ya (yaaawwwn).
Oldman really was brillant when remembering about this.

Totally a different person in that one. Would have never thought it was him. The dude is a great f'ing actor. And dont' forget about "the dude" in this playing the president.

...that The Contender was way over the top in portraying *all* Republicans as Evil, Horrible Monsters and *all* Democrats as Honest, Honorable Heroes. It would've been a much better film if they hadn't smashed The Message over your head like a gold brick. Plus, the *very* ending (in which Joan Allen reveals to the Prez (and the audience) the truth about the sex scandal COMPLETELY DEFEATS the entire point of the movie, which is that it was nobody's Goddamn business whether the girl in the video was her or not.

The real reporter in this case is Judith Miller. To have a wickedly sexy Kate Beckinsale playing her is insane miscasting. The real Miller is, with all due respect, a profoundly ugly human being both spiritually and physically. Spiritually, she is a partisan witch, a Bush stoolie, and a neocon whore who used the cover of the "liberal" NY Times to feed Pentagon propaganda about Saddam's massive WMD programs (oops they were nonexistent) to scare the public into supporting a war. Not ONE of her columns contained a smidgen of truth. Physically she is maybe 25 YEARS OLDER THAN BECKINSALE! Have Streep dye her hair black, give her a couple of moles and some ugly make up, have her channel her best servant of evil, and that would be a good Miller. Plame on the other hand is a super hot blonde with a brain to match her body, and the guts to stand up to the Bush regime. Naomi Watts, Nicole Kidman, even Charlize Theron would work here. The story as reported by most of the mainstream press is not that exciting. What the real story might involve however is the whole agenda to create false evidence to get us into a war with a country that did not attack us on 9/11, with Miller being in bed with and using for sources people like Libby and Ahmed Chalabi. how this false evidence was created and used, how most of the media went along without question and the real story of 9/11 and the Iraq war would make an intersting movie.
