AMC should really change their name at this point. Apparently, they're not going to be running movies anymore and if they were to, they would have fucking commercial breaks in `em. FUCK YOU AMC!
I'll give it a shot

...despite stumbling across the informercial AMC was running about the show, which was filled with intensely annoying self-praise about how great this show is.

It's funny how even after the millions NBC and others will spend to bring Beckham to the U.S., it will still be hard to find anybody who gives a shit about soccer...err, football.

awhile back. I thought it was boring. No great plot, just meandering diatribes that wink at the audience and let them KNOW that hey look at us we are in a sexist/racist time and doesn't that make you uncomfortable. It's like Ugh!

From what I've seen of this show it seems to be pandering to advertising stereotypes. They seem too smug to be believable. I'm a student of advertising and I loved this era, so maybe my perception of this time is seen through rosy glasses, but I believe this unfairly represents the advertising industry as a whole, not just the folks who worked in the 60's. I'll give it a shot though, because who knows. If I've learned anything from advertising, its that things aren't always what they seem to be.

I'm not completely sold on it, but it definitely has some potential. I'll keep watching for now. Hopefully they tone down on the verbal wink-wink hints anachronisms, because that will get old pretty quickly. The Kartheiser character is a little one-dimensional so far, as are the other mid-level guys, but it's early. I dunno. I did enjoy it, but I certainly ain't completely wowed yet.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Watching "Mad Men" feels as if a wormhole has been sliced open and the viewer is looking back at what society was like back then. The production value was excellent; also, the acting was spot-on. What's funny is, after the new girl took the lecherous young guy into her room and it cut away, I said, "Don's not going to appreciate the young guy preying on the new hire." Then came the reveal... All in all, I found "Mad Men" utterly compelling. While it highlights the lesser aspects that permeated our culture back then, it's a very well-written look at a group of people never before seen on television. I'll be setting a Season Pass on my TiVo.

Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and their toadies are watching "Mad Men" with tears in their eyes and wishing the USA stayed that way! Sexual harassment, anti-semitism, smoking indoors and Jerry Vale or whomever singing the end credits- pretty interesting show, not hooked but I'm intrigued.
I liked it - it has potential.

John Hamm is an excellent lead and the art direction is surprisingly detailed and authentic. And who knew Angel's little boy could play such a convincingly smarmy ad man? The writing is sharp, too -- the racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia and misogyny of the time is handled very even-handedly (no subtextural "Oh MY GOD they were so prejudiced then!") and all the period dialogue rings true. In all, a surprisingly good beginning.
