I actually do know who Lebron James is (and Carmelo Anthony's way cooler), but I appreciate and am amused by you feeling the need to point out that he's a basketball star. Whenever SNL has sports figures as hosts I usually have about a 50/50 shot of knowing who the hell they are.

SNL stetch that captured America and became part of the popular lexicon like Wayne's World, Buckwheat, Mr. Robinson's Neighboorhood, the Cheerleaders, Rich the copy guy, Oprahman, Two Wild and Crazy Guys, the Coneheads, etc. Other than "Dick in the Box" and Peyton Manning's sketch with the kids has there been a SNL sketch that has there really been a watercooler sketch since Will Ferrell left (and I thought his tenure on SNL was overrated and he has been far funnier since he left SNL)?

"He loves wearing T-Shirts. But in my dreams he's dressed like a pirate and my dong is his peg leg." Come on people what's the problem with new SNL? I'm 28 and have watched it pretty much all my life. Yeah it's had its ups and downs, but it still has its moments of greatness. The show has certainly had worse eras than it does now. Those of you who are embittered and want to talk shit need to realize that you're on a website that's primarily read by 18-25 year olds so shove it up your ass.

Since Will Ferrell left (and his years weren't nearly as good as years prior with Carvey, Meyers, Farely etc.) until last year, were probably the worst years other than the Randy Quaid, Anthony Michael Hall, Robert Downey cast. I think Horatio Sanz may be the least funny person on the planet. By the way, I think the demo from this site skews a lot older than 18-25 year olds. I'm sure they are well represented, but my guess the demos are weighted heavily to 25-35 year old set.

I'm 30 and have watched SNL for as long as I can remember, and it seems to me we repeat this crap every single year. People have been whining about "SNL sucks, the old cast was better" almost every year for over a decade. Yet when I tune in to any comedy channel that plays old SNL, it seems to me that even during it's "prime" it wasn't any funnier than people nostalically remember. I would even argue it was just as hit and miss in its prime as it is right now. I guarantee that in 5 years time the people whining now about SNL will be whining about how they long for the current cast...because that's the cool thing to do. Shows are alwas funny when you don't have to think about whole episodes and can instead remember it more from a warped "best of" perspective.

The on-court fight aside; it was stupid, but he was unfairly punished out of proportion to everyone else. I respect Anthony because he actually went to college: while he was at Syracuse he had a brilliant season that culminated in the '03 NCAA championship. Sure, he only stayed for one year...but that's one year longer than Lebron. Besides, the NCAA is absurdly more interesting than the NBA, in which most of them are phoning it in for the sponsors and paychecks.

04:35:29 PM
The question is whether the repeats you were watching weren't that funny because they just weren't funny or they were dated material that loses it's humor over time because the style of the humor and subject matter isn't as relevant today or the jokes have been copied so many times that they are generic. I don't think any particular season was funny all the time, but there were clearly periods of time where it was far more consistently funny than it is now.

It seems the cool thing to do now is to repeat after Lorne and anyone else at the show past or present who says the show was never better, we just want to think it was. But you know what? I've got a year on you, Mooly, I've watched the show since '89/'90, and last year was ther first season since SO unfunny that I stopped watching it. And I won't be back, at least until there's a new head writer and some fresh talent onstage.

They should have opened the season with an actor or comedian. Sports stars are not either, and they ted to be mediocre hosts at best. And, for the naysayers, SNL is an event and an institution. There is nothing like it on TV; it is unique. Every original show is live on Saturday Night, and it is part of the fabric of the American scene. If you don't like it, don't watch. I have been watching it since I was a kid, sneaking around late at night, way past bed-time, to watch giants like Belushi, Akroyd, and Bill Murray make comedy history. I hope SNL keeps going. It has left a great legacy so far. Yes for every hit sketch, there are a bunch of middling ones. To expect every sketch or show to be outstanding is like going to a baseball game and expecting constant home runs every inning. That is just not the way baseball or live comedy works. Long Live SNL.

...I hate SNL because it's just not funny. Most episodes I've caught over the past 20 years do good if they can get a single chuckle out of me. Most of the time I watch SNL, I wonder who was the dumbfuck who wrote some of these lameass skits, and who was the idiot who thought the writing was funny enough to merit actually being on the show. SNL's better days are long past.

Kristen Wiig will run her "I one-up everything everyone says" character completely into the ground.

I can't believe this show is still on, Lorne Michaels is milking this horse more then George Lucas is milking the SW series. The show was very good through the Carvey/Hartman years, and pretty good through the Hammond/Ferrell years, but has sucked big time the last 5-6 years. The last great year was 1984-85 with Martin Short, Billy Crystal, Jim Belushi, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, etc, and that was coincidentally the last season Lorne Micheals was not involved with the show!

about the last Last Comic Standing, but a fucking impressionist won the audience award. He did a remake of Wizard of Oz as done by people who you would commonly hear impressionists do. They weren't particularly good, they weren't unique impressions, and they were very old. HE DID FUCKING NICHOLSON! HE HAD DENIRO DO A LINE FROM ANOTHER MOVIE, BECAUSE ALL ACTORS SAY THE SAME LINES IN ANY MOVIE THEY'RE IN!!! Because if you don't, shut up. My personal opinion is that some skits now are really terrible, like worse than they have ever been. However, the really great skits are, IMO, BETTER than most of the ones were in the "prime"of SNL. Everyone hates on the new cast and relishes the old, that's just the way it goes. Will Ferrell got famous because of a couple of recurring characters, and that's it. He was in plenty of unfunny skits. So was Murray. So was Sandler. So was Chase. So was Myers. I could go on and on. But the really good ones are still fantastic (and Samberg has put a new shot of life into SNL with the digital shorts.) I will now quote "Sloths": "We sleep 18 hours, but we always party 24. We hang from trees and eat algae off our fur. We got three toes, but we'll pound 3000 bud lights, break your nose and kick your face in a punch fight! We eat bamboo, but prefer your girlfriend's @*$^@#, shank your mom with a pterodactyl *&^%& bone! Hire a dog to burn down a hospital, EAT COCAINE OFF AMERICA'S GRAVESTONE!! (suck it America!)

Payton Manning gets to be on SNL after the super bowl, so what gives? All LeBron did last year was show that he can get punked in the finals, and that any comparison to MJ is laughable. All the spurs did was become the winningest franchise of any major sports team this decade, thanks to Tim Duncan. Oh well.

...Let's just say he believes his own hype and leave it at that. I guess when you're called 'King' and 'Chosen One', sooner or later it climbs into your head and festers there. Either way, I'll be watching MAD TV instead. It's not great, but it's funnier than the last several seasons of SNL put together. Plus, they tend to know how to get out of a sketch without going too long.

Just watched the 'iRack' repeat the other night. Clever stuff.
