and still watch it on TNT, or wherever else, but is there such demand for this film? What's the audience for this movie, either than us on these boards. Besides, the final seasons were a catastrophe -- does anyone even know what happened to the mythology? They all died awaiting the aliens right? Then CSM was bombed in a mountain cave. What is there left to explore? You guys interested in a stand-alone episode/film?

there's two options here a) stand alone story or b)a follow on from the series. a) would be the logical choice. So what's the best we can hope for here? The Ring with Mulder and Scully? maybe Dark City? correct me if im wrong, but that's the strength and weakness of X-Files there's nothing like it, but also, nothing that's any good to compare it too.
will it be set sometime during the show's heyday?

I didn't pay much attention to XF post-s8, but I'm pretty sure a standalone movie set after the series end isn't going to work, from what I've heard about its final years. Am I right in thinking this? If so, they'll have to either base it in the mid-90s (an unseen case from around s3-s5) or just kind of ignore the TV show and just stick with what pop-culture understands: two FBI agents investigating weirdness. Pure and simple stuff.
I think they're counting on the nostalgia viewers

stand-alone, continuation, whatever. it's Mulder and Scully! as long as they don't go overboard with the budget, this will make money. people love good mysteries. and the built in fan base form the show will get you $15 million right there.

you just have to have a decent film, with some moderate marketing (fuck myspace, those kids are too young to know the X-files) campaigns, and it'll make money.

I wish they would do an X-Files franchise! 1 every 2 years until Duchovny has gray hair and is dating Calista Flockhart!

and Gillian Anderson was my first real crush. say what you want about Leia in the bikini, Scully is the sexiest nerd-magnet on the planet!!

Turn this into a fucked up, "Bourne"-type thriller, but instead of the international espionage aspect, it would be a cool, gritty documentary-style look at sci-fi. Could make for a revolutionary type film. Or, of course, it could be utter shit, but I'd love to see him offered a fat check to try.

The only reason I tolerated the first movie is because of how heavily it played into the mythology heavy episodes of the shown. It felt like an event, big things happened. The concept of a 2 hour stand alone story with nothing but the characters seems pointless.

I suppose it would be nice to see Gillian in that role again. I lost my virginity to myself thinking about her one summer day in the mid to late 1990's. And if this comes out I'd have to netflix the last few seasons. I stopped watching it after one season ending cliffhanger. I don't remember it much, something about a space ship buried in the sand at some coastline. I just know that I got sick of previews for episodes showing characters saying things like "what's behind that tree line" or "what was he trying to hide" and you expect some clear answer, and all the response they would get was "the truth".

Make me laugh, its only been 4 or 5 years since the show ended!, its not like its a film of a 80's show or something, the fanbase is still there. The X-Files is my favorite TV show ever and many of todays Sci-Fi shows are poor in comparison and i actually think that if they brought back the show (which i think they will at some point), it would be bigger than ever!.

Twin Peaks in between Laura's murder getting solved and the final episode is honestly some of the worst television I've ever seen in my life, especially when you put it next to the rest of twin peaks. even a lesser episode is worth 45 minutes of my life. I glad to here this movie is a stand alone...I always thought the first movie was basically a long episode, which is always a big no no. I wonder how theyre going to treat the fact that mulder and scully are pretty much a couple now. Alot of the casual fans who dropped it around seasons 3-6 are going to be left scratching their heads...

Quote: "in between Laura's murder getting solved and the final episode is honestly some of the worst television I've ever seen in my life"

It's not the worst I've ever seen but it is definitely weak and unfocused. A direct result of Laura's murder being solved TOO SOON.

However, the series finale more than makes up for the aimlessness of the latter half by delivering 20 minutes of the most unsettling and disturbing TV I've ever seen. The final moments in the Black Lodge are legendary.

All is as well as can be expected here. Wife's out of the cancer treatment regiment now. Hopefully it's full recovery/remission/cure. This shit better not happen ever again. Ever again. Damn, these last nine months have been a massive kick in the proverbial balls. End sob story.

Season 9 really was poorly realized/executed. Killing off the Lone Gunman was horribly delivered, but, they kind of had it coming after that terrible spin-off. Too bad they won't show up in this one.

Side note: I loved Skinner killing Krycek. The look on Mulder's face was awesome. Skinner = Mack Daddy.

I am keeping optimistic about this flick since I love the series so, but I am prepaired to be under-whelmed. Loved Reyes and Dogget. I am evidently one of the few that did. This could be great. Time will tell.

it was just the thin plots and weak writing of the later seasons that blew. I wish they hadn't have gone the baby route and found a way to resolve Scully's story when Mulder disappeared, and ended the show. Then you could have had a spinoff with Reyes and Doggett. Or the few cool things that were in those last seasons could have gone in a good movie or a miniseries. I actually thought the first X-Files film was a mistake - to have it while the show was still running instead of waiting until after the show was over. The movie could have been an awesome 'search for Mulder' type thing. They could have had a great film franchise, but they blew it. In essence they wrote themselves into a corner with the conspiracy and were left with nowhere to go but to create another ridiculous alien plot that wasn't even really about aliens. This is why I'm glad that Lost and BSG both have an endgame in place, to avoid the X-Files style decline. Besides Twin Peaks, I can't think of another show that went from sheer brilliance to mediocre tripe so rapidly. No decent genre show should last past seven seasons (unless it's an anthology show). That's why I hope Smallville wraps it up this year.

as long as it's halfway decent. We all know that they should have come up with a real ending to the show when Duchovny left. I did like Dogget, but they just didn't know where to go. The super soldier plot never really paid off.

Here's how the first scenes should go. We're following two figures, their faces are obscured, but it looks like a guy and a woman creeping around, acting like FBI agents, and it all resembles the classic X-Files scenes we remember. It must be Mulder and Scully. Then, when their faces are finally revealed, it's Doggett and Reyes. This would be a fun reveal, plus all through the scenes you'd have the geeks silently bitching that at the end of the series, Mulder and Scully weren't working for the FBI as partners.

It's the same reason I can't get into Lost now...I have severe reservations they started with a grand plan; rather, they'll build and build until they can't get back down again. so I'm hoping this wraps up a few loose ends. For one, the last scene Mulder told Scully that the alien invasion was going to occur in 2012 and the world would be devesated, and there was NOTHING they could do about it, except continue to fight the future (what ever that meant). So, does the new movie blithely pretend that the world isn't going to end, eschewing the all important 'TRUTH'revealled at the end of the series in favour of a one-off adventure, or do they tell a story 'during' the end of the world / alien invasion. I can't wait to find out.

The last time he was in some movie he told his fans that the X-files movie was on its way, would start filming very soon. Nothing happened on that (and incidentally his movie flopped). Now he's pulling the same trick. He jerks around his fans and lies to them to get them to see his latest stinkeroo. I'll believe this rumor when I see a "pre-production" notice about XFII in the Hollywood Reporter. Until then it's just Duchovny farting more swamp gas.

First off, the first half, still dealing with Laura is incredible. The two hour premiere is so, so good. Everything about it. That Cooper monologue into his recorder after being shot is fantastic writing. Than, all the stuff with Leland is great, and they manage to do some absolutely terrifying things. Such as the murder of Maddy Ferguson. Now, after the murder is wrapped up, stuff does kind of meander. The image of Cooper in a plaid shirt, rather than his FBI attire makes me sick, the stuff with James off on his own with that woman is boring, the Mike/Nadine stuff is kind of silly, and having Catherine dressed as that Asian man is really ridiculous. You have to remember though, the network essentially forced them to resolve the murder early, so they had to act on their feet REALLY quickly. It would be like if ABC made Lost show what was in the hatch in the middle of season one, rather than the beginning of season two, and that surely would have had negative repercussions. Season two of Twin Peaks does find its footing though. Windom Earle IS a very interesting character (although him dressing up as the Log Lady is kind of hit or miss), the brief glimpses of Cooper's past, David Duchovony, Cooper's relationship with Annie Blackburn, David Duchovony, and a lot more. All of that, and then you look at the incredible finale, that although leaves so much hanging, is just amazing, and ridiculous to think it was on network TV, and that final image is a wonderful talking point to end the series on. So, you have 8 episodes dealing with Laura still, and maybe a handful of really painful ones, but I'd still argue that the season starts and ends incredibly strong, has a lot of great visual images and quotations ("J'ai une ame solitaire"), and overall, is still pretty fucking entertaining television.

was still better than most crap on television. The beginning and end of the season was just as strong as Season 1. However, my least favorite part was James. God, what a terrible character. The intentionally tongue-in-cheek stuff was enjoyable. I love how the Nadine-goes-to-high school plot is drawn out to ridiculous proportions and then during the last episode she gets her memory back and goes apeshit is incredible. I loved how that show could be self-referential and jokey and then on a fucking dime it becomes incredibly creepy and surreal. Very few shows have that range.

What year is it? Fuck you, that's what year it is. Lance Henriksen and "Lost's Terry O'Quinn". He died? Did you see a body? Exactly. There's your movie right there. Make it happen Carter, I mean it's not like you're busy doing much of anything else.

As for this, I hope Robert Patrick's Doggett gets a look in, always thought he was a breath of fresh air on the show, and a welcome relief to the past season or so of Duchovny's "I clearly don't want to be here and I think this is all stupid bullshit that's beneath me and has more than run it's course so I'll just constantly wink at the audience to let them know I'm in on the joke and don't take any of this shit seriously" bollocks. Duchovny was fucking terrible during most of his last full year, and was clearly just marking time until he could piss off and go be "a big star" (yeah, how'd that work out for you David? Oh, really? What a fucking shocker...). Seriously, I never got why Patrick got blamed for replacing an actor who left because he didn't want to be there any more. And Patrick did a better job than he gets credited with, under difficult circumstances and with not always the best of material to work with.

Anyway, would I go see an X-Files movie? Probably, if just out of curiosity value, if nothing else. Chances of this actually happening? Only slightly better than Harsh Realm getting a movie spinoff.

Great show in its heyday. The less said about the last few seasons, the better - the show started to drastically weaken not long after the production moved from Vancouver to LA per Duchovny's demands. The first movie was just fine, though. The time is, in my opinion, just about exactly right for them to restart this franchise. Any sooner would have been a mistake - people were burned out on it and the last few seasons, well, you know...

Does anyone remember that in the disgrace that was the final episode Mulder could see, interact, and even receive papers from ghosts? I hope that Chris Carter pretends like that never happened. I know Chris Carter wrote some of the best episodes of the show, but he also was involved in many of the worst (the Kathy Griffin monstrosity, the FPS episode, that other one where Burt Reynolds was God). I hope this movie is indeed a stand-alone case, but that they acknowledge what happened in the past (no prequel, please) and that some new FBI agent is able to locate Mulder and Scully and force them out of anonymity. If done right this movie could be the starting point of a new X-Files tv series. Funny/quirky episodes were fun early on when they were a rarity, but by season 6 and 7 they were the norm and that sucked. The 7th season was just as bad as the final season (Kathy Griffin, Samantha Mulder was dead from day one, Duchovny looked bored all the time, the Millennium crossover that was a disservice to that show, etc. etc.)

"ALWAYS have an ending, and be ready to move into it the moment the show wears out its welcome." It was the show's truly epic fizzle that helped establish this standard for all time, and we have it to thank for (as an example) the prudent decision to conclude BSG in its fourth season...LOST, take the hint. As for the movie, who needs it? X-files was either the alien mythology arc or Scully and Mulder's relationship, and both shambled to closure on the series...

To my way of thinking this show was always best in the episodes that veered away from the continuing alien plot. Personally, I would much rather see a film along the lines of one of those juxtaposed episodes, ie a ghost or some other entity. "Fight the Future" was really no better then an average episode and was completely superflous. If we erased just that film from existance, and still had all the episodes, would it really have changed your undersatnding of the show as a whole? As it was, the collective story felt like it was being altered week by week to meet the availability of the actors. I think its time to pull the plug. Just my opinion.

Thankfuck for supernatural carrying the torch as it has all the ingrediants i like in a show, cool characters & creepy storylines heck i was sold on the show in the first episode when they met the FBI and Dean says to the two agents "mulder...scully..." had me in fits, knew id like it after that, was slow in the 1st season but they sure as hell picked it up afterwards, i mean some of those episodes couldve had mulder and scully in em and it wouldve passed as an xfiles episode easily.

Never understood any of the complaints/gripes about those two. Loved them both; still do. Does that mean I am a true fan or a blind/biased fool? You decide. What did you decide?

Fire Walk With Me had one of the most "scary" scenes I have ever experienced in a film. Bob/Leland coming out from behind Laura's dresser when she walks back in the house just fucked me up. Bob truly is one of the greatest, nay I say he is the greatest boogieman type bad guy ever. Someone on The Zone has an scene grab of Bob creeping through the living room, slinking over the couch. That just chills me every time I see it. Wow. Bob doesn't even have any make-up on. It's just a guy acting creepy. That's awesome.

Anyway, back on topic. Said it before, if they can do it right I think a X-Files film will be awesome. Do it right guys! I extend the same sentiment to those involved with The Prisoner film.......

The reason I have reservations is because I sort of stopped watching after S1 and the ads for it just haven't been good enough to bring me back in :( Then again, Channel 7, the network it screens on here in Australia, can make any show look incredibly shitty through previews. So if as you say S3 was written to prove everyone wrong, I'll be first in line to recognise their ingenuity...but I'll let ppl who've stuck with it from the start influence my decision to get back on the wagon.

I, for one, am excited about FX-2. I'm not going to get carried away untill I see a little more solid evidence that it's actually happening (!!) but it has to be said that X Files was a superb series. I actually quite enjoyed Fight the Future aswell. I think I would be a bit dissapointed if FX2 didn't reference the mythology and the history of the programme in some way. I like the idea of the movie picking up where the S9 finale left off with M&S on the run, but I guess the narrative would have to be a 'stand alone' story for it to work as a big movie. I agree that the best X Files were series 1 - 6. But I have to say I didn't think the last few series were bad at all - I still rate the show as the best sci - fi to date (and it paved the way for others that never quite lived up to it) AND I liked Gish and Patrick in the last few seasons - they did a very good job under difficult circumstances. I think Patrick, in particular, is a very fine actor. I want to know which episodes were people's faves? There are so many for me - but a few off the top of my head are Triangle, Bad Blood, All Things, Post modern Prometheus, Redux and Redux II. The one in S4 with the man who 'is Cancer' and could grow his head back (you have something I need revelation to Scully - Cancer, can't remember his name!), Duane Barry (classic), Hollywood AD, Tunguska, Home (real creepy) One Son - there are so many great ones!! If I HAD to choose three though - I'd go with Prometheus, Triangle and Bad Blood. What does anyone else think??
