since I see so many of these exact same posts on AICN by people trying to be the new coolness...

"Are these the same people who thought [insert name of movie that everyone likes, proving you're special for hating it] was [insert enormous exaggeration of what people actually said about the film, using many superlatives]? If so, I think I'll[insert a "cooler than thou" phrase, showing your mild disdain, but tempered with indifference].

you gotta understand, this guy is either a complete nut, or he's just having fun with all of us.

he's said some stuff that is so ridiculously weird, and some of it so factually inaccurate, that I tend to think he's just having a laugh.

but if he is, he's a damn good writer, cos he totally sounds like a really earnest, albeit totally delusional, nutcase...

I guess time will tell...

you can't listen to a guy that is yelling nonsensical rants at the top of his lungs, and think that yelling sensical rants at the top of your lungs, is going to make any difference....

he's a nutcase, full stop.

but god, I love him...nothing makes me laugh harder than a guy who claims that Steven Spielberg is racist and the civil rights movement was run by white conservatives...

I mean honestly...is that not hilarious?

Shakespeare wrote stuff for the masses. NOWADAYS we analyze it, SK229, like so:

his absolutely PIERCING insight into human behavior and our selfish motivations, as well as our behavior in relation to everything around us... and 2) characters that are so detailed that they are more alive and exist more in the real world than most people I know.

Do you see what I'm saying?

Listen, when I was eighteen, I thought and said the same things about Spielberg as you do now. And this was right after Jurassic Park came out. But as time went on, I learned to appreciate things for what they're worth.

Now, you don't have to like it, but you at least have to admit it: Spielberg is damn good at what he does, and what he does is make movies for mass consumption. He's the fucking Bill Gates of Hollywood and YES, the Shakespeare of his time.

A lot of the time people forget that, in the end, Hollywood is just another business. No matter which way you cut it, 99% of movies are made to make money. And no one has a better track record of making money than Steven Spielberg.

Do you really think we still discuss Shakespeare because people back in the day loved his fucking insight into human behavior?

Gotta admit, when Spielberg's on, he's on......

But his resume over the last decade or so has produced what I think to be a lesser body of work than what we think he's capable of. Examples like Terminal, War of the Worlds, The Lost World, AI (I actually liked it, though), etc. sow how far his work has fallen from the likes of Indiana Jones. Now with the 4th installment, I think this is Spielberg's try at a kind of redemption. I honestly don't know if he can pull it off because I think his greatest work is behind him and I think now he has become somehwhat self-indulgent, which is something that happens to people when they're told they're great all the time. As a result, their work suffers and they become a shadow of what they were. Sure he'll be remembered as the best director of his time, maybe deservedly so, but I think in the end it's not so much about the director but the body of work they put out. In Spielberg's case I'd give him 50/50.
I actually think more people will remember Lucas

Due to the fact that he created probably the greatest myth of our time in Star Wars and amalgamated many themes that people can identify with such as good vs. evil, a rebellion against tyranny, coming of age, the hero, the rogue, the princess, the evil antagonist, myth, religion, fantasy, etc.

I don't think people will remember so much whether they were good or bad but will remember the themes that made them the movies they are, be it good or bad. As for me, I loved all the Star Wars films and continue to love them and imagine my own stories and adventures I'd like to see in that galaxy, far, far away.

Star Wars is guaranteed to be remembered for a very long time as well as its creator. I don't think Indiana Jones hits quite as close but will be remembered as being the greatest series of action films. But then again, it was created by Lucas and not Spielberg, technically.

a movie coming up called Tropic Thunder, about war-movie actors who get confused for actual guerilla warriors. Think Three Amigos, but with automatic weapons. Sounds corny and stale. It makes me think, yes, the Knocked-Up / Superbad style will indeed bury the Frat Pack. Their time is over.

I'm serious. It wasn't as good as it thought it was. The only saving grace is Seth Rogan. Other than that, Jonah Hill is so annoying, I'd hoped a jock would punch him out in the course of the film.

this guy is good for so many laughs...

the coathanger abortion line was particularly funny. nothing says, "take my arguments seriously" like wishing abortion retroactively on someone that disagrees with you. what a kook! lol...

I love his Schindler's List comments...it's like saying, "oh COME ON, tell me Titanic wasn't a movie about a big ship!! that's all it was!!!" well, yeah, but it's a little more important that the ship SANK, you know?

Schindler WAS a nazi, he WAS an opportunist, and he WAS a greedy businessman. the point of the movie, which seems to have eluded A.S., was in his redemption. from a historian who interviewed Schindler:

"Oskar Schindler's exceptional deeds stemmed from just that elementary sense of decency and humanity that our sophisticated age seldom sincerely believes in. A repentant opportunist saw the light and rebelled against the sadism and vile criminality all around him. The inference may be disappointingly simple, especially for all amateur psychoanalysts who would prefer the deeper and more mysterious motive..."

I just love this guy though, "race pimps"? lol...what the hell is he even talking about? rock on, AnimalStructure!

I happen to have been a part of the Arclight screening for Saperbad. I never saw Knocked up and I really didnt know too much about this moving going into it. I saw a trailer a few weeks ago and it was good. By no means was I thinking, HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME I HAVE TO SEE IT! But I happen to have an advanced screening ticket to the movie so I said, "FREE MOVIE! WOO HOO!" It was my first time going to see an advanced screening to any movie so I wasnt sure what to expect. I have to say that I wasnt expecting much from this movie. I'm not one to like tons of vulgar language for the sake of using vulgar language. that kind of thing just isnt funny to me. It may be just me but recent comedy films and films in general have been so damn BAD! That being said, I laughed my ass off from beginning to end! The characters are well written, the on screen improv is fantastic and you really follow these characters on a journey of self discovery. The best thing about this movie is that there is a deeper story going on with the characters and the relationships between one another. I wont go into detail since the reviews above are pretty detailed but take it from me... If you want to go see this movie DONT MISS IT! If you're on the fence about seeing this movie GO SEE IT! Trust me, you wont regret it! And please for GODSAKES dont bring any kids to see this movie!!! Have fun at the movies guys!
I can't stop watching the trailer!!
