Also the first positive thing I've read about Microsoft's lousy conference. But I think it goes without saying that Sony had the best one, because they focused on showing games, games, games. Most gaming journalists seem divided over whether Sony or Nintendo did better, but I'm not sure how they can argue the point. Everyone seems to agree Microsoft sucked it up with boredom. Bad show, MS. More games next time! And by more games I mean "more than a console version of Scene It and a Viva Pinata minigame title." Oh well, they're still leading the industry right now.

I saw the 3 conferences and what the reviewer says is true, you don't want numbers, you don't want to know how well the consoles are going (unless you are a fanboy) but you want to see some games! And imho sony won because of MGS4 exclusivity announced and the sweet lighting in killzone 2.

You must be fairly easy to please. M$ conference was clearly the best. I don't know how a 100 dollar price drop and some tacked on wanna Sims game was enough to convince you that Sony had all aces. Haha, Sony is the winner, THAT DAY.

I did read the review and it sucked. WCW/NWO is one of the greatest games I've ever played, but you don't see me buying every new piece of shit WWE game starring white trash murder-suicide roid ragers and their slutty thong-wearing companions.

On another topic, how exactly does one "win" E3? And if you can win E3, well I'm sure the Sony presentation was great and the trophy will look lovely in their offices, but I'd say the abject failure of the PS3 outweighs a slick powerpoint presentation.

How about getting some real reports from real gamers, then?

Wii is not "a fad" (it's actually a complete revolution in gaming - only a clueless fool couldn't understand that - or couch potatoes); Sony can't be summed up to MGS4, even if the games semms to kick all sorts of asses.

And MicroSoft's conference wasn't too shabby either. But it's hard to shine while battling BigN in its biggest comeback ever, and Sony as a fallen leader turned new challenger. Of course it takes a minimum knowledge of the video game industry yo understand that.

Sheeeesh focus on movies, guys. Or cut the wedding budget and hire a real specialist.

Nintendo Wiifit sucks all kinds of ass

I own all 3 systems and by far the best presentation IMO was Sony. With Liar, Ratchet and Clank Future, Silent Hill 5 plus MGS4 I am stoked. I've never been a fan of Sony but my mind has changed. The PS3 is starting to prove itself, finally. Plus I only paid $300 for mine so that's a HUGE bonus!

360 was not far behind. It's a great system flaws and all. I got the Elite and with the 3 years they just shelled out for coverage I now have peace of mind.

The Wii on the other hand showed me nothing I had not seen already from last years E3 and with the introduction of the Wiifit it's obvious that Nintendo is ignoring their loyal core gamer base that has kept them afloat all these years. I've owned every single Nintendo system and feel like I got the shaft. Fuck them and the Wii. The only thing I am playing that system right now is RE4 which is a port from the Gamecube. Granted it's the best game ever made but I am really disappointed that I saw nothing new. I already knew about Prime 3 and Galaxy. They can take their Wiifit and shove it up their ass. Glad I got the other two systems.

Wii is the most intense console. Finally games are more than button-mashing. Wii games are more immersive because you have to actually move. How is Killzone different from Doom, Half-Life, Quake, Unreal, Resistance, Halo, or any other game where a futuristic soldier shoots aliens? What is the newest online multiplayer squad-based real time first-person destructible-environments game for the "who gives a shit" channel?

Really what did we see at E3 that we did not see last year besides the Wiifit?

I own it. I love Nintendo proudly. I cherish the games from the Cube,64 , SNES and NES but quite honestly having owned the Wii now for many months I am losing my love affair with it because simply put the game selection of quality games I prefer to play are lacking. Maybe if I had kids I would be more into it because of the overall family appeal the system has, and for that yeah it's great if you have a family. But for core gamers this system blows. There is a lot of potential with the controls but other then Prime 3 , REUMC, and Galaxy what is there? SSMB? That's not even going to make use of the remote, it will be played just like the older versions buy turning the Wiimote sideways like old school. So honestly guys what else is there? What did the big N show you that made you go wow that we have not seen before?

And as far as Zelda goes I am one of those who is in the league that Windwaker was the last great Zelda game because it was a breath of fresh air and took that franchise into a new direction with story, gameplay and visuals. IMO TP is a snore. It's an over bloated version of OoT and nothing new that we have not seen before. Yeah the controls are cool but the game itself did not excite me like prior Zelda games where I played them non-stop until done.

Show me something I've not seen before and then I will be impressed. Wiifit does not impress unless you got a family and sadly you fail to realize that is the new demographic Nintendo cares about because that is where the money is.

Microsoft's presentation was really devoid of exciting surprises, and propping that up with "woo look at Halo 3" wasn't going to cut it.

Sony's was OK, but again no real surprises aside from the new PSP, but the re-design isn't an amazing change like the DS to DS Lite change was.

Nintendo didn't really have any surprises, we knew about most of the games, and Mario Kart was a given anyway even if we didn't know about it. But what they did show looked pretty interesting.

Overall it wasn't a great E3, and still no Shenmue 3 from Sega, but maybe next year?

Before I start, I must confess, I don't understand the Wii craze. I don't particularly care for the controller or the entire idea behind it. I don't want to "interact" with my games, I want to sit back on my couch, with a bag of chips and simply play them. Flailing my arms and wrists about for an hour or more isn't a thrilling experience. As a matter of fact, my old lady wrists start to hurt after about 10 minutes on the controls.----- I know why you and your girl don't like the wii. One your a fat bastard who sits on a couch eating chips all the time. Any motional movment beyond finger presses are too much for you, and your girls arms get sore becuase your an ugly fat bastard and she'd rather jerk you off then let your undersized fat bastard meat stick into her. Get off your ass and play! Wii's numbers are proving that the fat comic book type guys are fucked! People want to be in the game. Simple as that we've wanted VR since Lawnmowerman and Tron. but your ass got too fat to understand and enjoy the new way. Fat mutherfuckers are always complaining about moving around. enjoy the Massive Heart Attack and Blood Clots and Cancer You Fat bitch. Dont pick on him he's fat fuck that Fat people are like alchoholics. those muther fuckers got there by overdoing it. And I dont have respect or pity for them. PermaBanned. And I don't care!
Wii does not have a single great game

Just a bunch of mediocre party games. Zelda is a Gamecube port. RE4 is a Gamecube port. I can't think of one great game that was built from the ground up with the Wii in mind that is a solid action/adventure. (Actually, I can. Manhunt 2) No More Heroes is an example of what I'm talking about. When is that coming out? I remember when the Wii was introduced and everyone was going crazy with cool ideas for games to make use of the controller. Why hasn't anyone utilized thos ideas? The only thing that would make me get a Wii is Smash Brs. And that isn't a game that makes real use of the Wiimote. I'll just be playing it with my GC controllers.

and for that matter I can't see how you can defend it ThePilgrim.

I know that your post was directed at Harry and his future wife and there was really no need to insult either of them because you did not like her opinion but honestly you just brought nothing to the conversation but the latter to defend the justification of why the Wii is great.

Like Dapper Swindler and I have both said. Most of the games are ports from the Gamecube, yes even Super Paper Mario was originally supposed to be a Gamecube release. So honestly what else is there? Mama Cookoff? Shit. Wario Smoothmoves? Total shit. I mean come on. The best they had to offer this year was the Wiifit? Fuck that system. I am debating on cashing in and getting rid of mine while I got the chance before the real backlash begins. I probably won't because I am hoping for a few silver linings with some great titles but I hope I don't regret that desicion later down the road.

and thats what'll hurt them in the end if it keeps up. once "everyone" who wants this has it, the system wont be the huge seller it is now and just be like the rest, then it'll be up to the games for nintendo to stay on top and it seems the complaint most have is that their games suck at the moment. its all stuff to show off the gimmick, all mini games and crap but people will probably tire of those eventually, some already are.

SONY....The PS3 is a piece of shit. All it is is a giant blu ray player. They do not even have one great game on it. and they have lost most of there exclusives to Microsoft and MGS4 is next you just wait. The Wii is innovated every single first party wii game is fantastic and new. It's not nintendo's fault that 3rd party developers have no imagination and can only come up with silly mini-games for the wii. give it time you will see some groundbreaking stuff soon enough.

I bought mine because I am a loyal Nintendo fanboy. But it's obvious I am no longer their target demographic and they really just took a big dump of those of us who stuck by them all these years for the up front money. That "family base" will go away once the fad of owning one wears off just like you said and then what will happen is they will try to win back the core gaming crowd who will have left already and in the end it will be Nintendo who will lose the console war. They may be on top right now but lets see them stay there 2 years down the road. Ain't going to happen unless they put out some truly amazing games to appeal to their original base. :-(

But if you're talking about who had the better conference, then it's Sony, hands down!

Microsoft's was just a reiteration. Dull, nothing new, well nothing new that was exciting anyway... It was straightforward if you like straightforward, but m'eh. MS fanboys have already been pimping their holiday lineup for half a year, essentially making MS's conference of saying the exact same thing irrelevant.

Nintendo was blah blah blah success blah blah blah newsreel blah blah blah... I bet I can guess what the Wii news channel is full of... It's like the debreifing after a mission. Announcing the releases dates of major games was good, but they showed nothing, not even a trailer. Zelda for DS, I've already seen enough gameplay demonstrations online. The demo revealed nothing new. Great game, but there was no need to show it off when it's already released in Japan unless you're adding something new. And as for WiiFit, very nice product and the casual market will lap it up. But give me a fucking break... that was all? I see mroe minigame crap coming for this as well. And I have premonitions that once all the mario titles they can possibly have on the Wii are out of the way as well as Metroid and Zeldas, that we'll get mroe unique peripherals to spend money on when they start exhausting the ideas of making use of the Wii mote and Fitboard so that we essentially get new ways to exercise and play minigames. NOt that this makes the Wii a less appealing or bad product, but it appears that they really are moving away from the hardcore base with statements that maybe Wii owners don't want epic games like Zelda... No man, casual audiences don't give a fuck about zelda, gamers DO! And if you made enough of them to buy then maybe those gamers would actually purchase Zelda. Nintendo better pull some rabbits out of its hat come TGS or else I'd be worried.

Now as for SOny, they did everything right. Even the new PSP with better battery and TV-out looks cool. (But can anyone confirm if we can play games as well through this?) MGS4 looked awesome, and while there was no gameplay there will be at Kojima's 20th anniversary party later this month, I don't think they wanted to be at E3 this year given that they're gonna have a blowout on MGS info soon, and this trailer was put together at the last second, but fantastic stuff none the less and confirmations that it was exclusive should settle the issue, but as we all know for those certain folks it just won't... Killzone did not live up the the rendering quality of the 05 trailer, but what was shown looked fucking amazing and apparently this is supposedly still pre-alpha? And anyway the PSP line-up of games looks great and I'll be having a field day! Even Home looks better and very cool! And there are plenty of great games coming out this year, exclusive and multi for PS3. IF you think that MS has a better lineup, it's a matter of preference is all I've got to say, however PS3 undoubtedly does have some amazing games for the holidays.

MS will take this year based on Halo as a killer franchise and having a large install base. However 2008 as analysts expected will be when Sony becomes a force to be reckoned with. Not only would I expect another price drop to the tune of $100 by next E3. But with more PS3s currently flying off shelves with the price drop and Blu-Ray picks up steam and with MGS4 scheduled for early 08 along with Killzone and Final Fantasy XIII later on, the gamers specifically waiting for those franchises before hopping aboard the PS3 wagon will finally do so, and by then PS3 will meet it's 10-11 million install base at around the same time MS met that mark. MS will still be marginally ahead, but Wii will only be behind because of supply constraints.

Sony won nothing. Sony got some good reviews because they treated what passes for gaming press with nice food. Sony has little compared to X360 on the docket for 07. They cannot respond to Halo 3, Mass Effect, BioShock, PGR4, and a slew of other titles coming out THIS YEAR. The MGS4 trailer was solid, but after 3 trips on the same ride, I will say that the gameplay footage will be very different and a hell of a lot less cinematic. The fact that it is coming out in 08 does not make matters any better. Nintendo was is full gloating mode because their systems are selling like hot cakes. I am disappointed with the lack of game footage. But Winter looks to be Smashing.

I have to call into question the reviewer's knowledge of the Wii with her description of "flailing my arms and wrists about for an hour or more". You don't have to use the fucking thing like the overexuberant pricks on the commercial. I would be embarrassed to play with that level of enthusiasm even if I was at home with just my cats. Like the wingardium leviosa spell before it, a simple swish and flick will do. If your wrists hurt after using the Wii, I'd suggest a calcium supplement. The Wii is the only next-gen console I own so far, but I would like to get the 360 as well once a price drop or two has been implemented. I love my Wii, but it is not without its disappointments. First and foremost is Nintendo's online stance. In their continued effort to keep things hypersterile and saccharine safe for the soccer mom crowd (and to avoid being the first video game company, to my knowledge to garner a headline like "Child Molested Over Wii, Forced to Pump Wiimote Up and Down in Disconcerting Masturbatory Gesture"), Nintendo has chosen to neglect the atmosphere of a bustling online community on a system that couldn't fucking be more perfect for it. Yes, I can answer some jackassy poll questions on a Wii channel (Where do YOU like to read?! Under a tree or the coffee shop?) but if I want to swap messages, find players to interact with, check out other people's Miis, etc., there is going to have to be a coordinated effort where we both program in one another's friend codes and utilize email or phone to get the codes in the first place. If parents don't want to risk their kids maybe coming into contact with an unsavory element online with the Wii, it would be easy enough for Nintendo to provide password-protection for any and all online options. You can block games by rating but neither Nintendo or Sony will carry Manhunt 2 in its current form because, after caving to complaints from one of those moronic fucking Christian right video game watchdog groups, the ESRB gave it an AO rating. It's tentatively scheduled for October now but if you have a Wii or a PS3, you won't get to see it as it was intended. Still love the system and I appreciate Nintendo's theoretical marketing strategy of trying to appeal to a large spectrum of gamers but it is a claim that only works on paper as I feel that, as usual, the grownups are getting the shaft for fear of some grownups trying to expose their shafts to kids.

Did you even watch the fucking conference? And all Sony exclusives are gone? LO fucking L... Let's count... DMC4, GTAIV (Thoguh Andreas was out on Xbox), Katamari Damacy oh noes..., Ace Combat, Eternal Sonata, Final Fantasy XI... and, what else? What else has been only on PS2 and is now on 360? Sure there's some great franchises there... but hardly a big loss. Especially with the fucking huge list of past exclusives that people give a dman about that are first party to Sony. And especially with the fact that most new IP 3rd party games are multiplatform anyway... Are you suferring from some kind of console inferiority complex that you have to lie about it? IF you have a PS3 and there are no games worth playing on it for you, then sell the damn thing and buy a Halo themed 360 or save it for the WiiFit board. Some exercise would do you good.

You guys are probably already aware, but I think that the Lego Star Wars repackaging that is in development for Wii will utilize light saber swinging. Far from being a ground-up Star Wars production with truly badass light saber battles (more of a port tweaked for next-gen, but probably tweaked pretty well) but a step in the right direction for sure. I'm pretty sure I heard news of a light saber Wiimote being in development for future games but I guess it could have been a mockup prototype on one site or another. I can't imagine that it wouldn't happen much sooner than later, though. erichaislar, I agree that the future is bright for Wii on the software side of things. Even the greatest of launches inevitably leave those of us who are first in line to get the new systems cold for awhile until the developers really find their footing in developing for a new generation. This transition period is of course a little more severe with the Wii but that's because it's doing something brand new. They have yet to prove that the motion-controlled aspect of the Wii is terribly advanced and I have no idea what developers will be able to do with it once they get comfortable with it but I can't wait to find out.

The games I am looking forward to are Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, PGR4, VF5, MGS4, Rock Band, and GHIII, Fable 2. Heck, it is a good time to be a gamer!

Other than a new Zapper that will actually feel like you are running and gunning in a real game. WiiFit, which will actually motivate people to exercise and improve their bodies (I mean think how many great guitar players there would be if people spent as much time practicing a real guitar than playing Guitar Hero) and they gave release dates on several titles that appeal t the harcore and casual masses alike. An yet from Sony and MS we get some more third person and FP shooters that come with even more polygons so that the eyelid on that same monster looks even more realistic. YAY what true innovation. Nintendo is completely turning video games into a new medium of entertainment, and what they have started with the Wii, the gaming industry will feel the revurburations for generations to come.

E3 2007: the worst E3 in YEARS

From most accounts, Sony did best. But I haven't been so disappointed in an E3 in years. I'd like to echo Savage Lucy's comment above. All three were totally crap. The fact that Sony won by showing just a trailer for one game (which its fans are relying on WAY too much for peace of mind) and a sequel to a hyped up piece of shit (Killzone) is just evidence of how bad this year's E3 was.

Obviously the reviewer is out of touch with the gaming industry as a whole. E3 this year is industry and the industry likes to make money. Who cares about selling games to 1 million core gamers when you can sell games to 10 million new "gamers"? I own a Wii. I bought it a couple months ago at a Best Buy where they had 12 units in the back. I'm also married. My wife plays the Wii more than I do. My parents own a Wii. My dad plays Tiger Woods and my mom bowls on Wii Sports. My sisters own Wiis, they play Twilight Princess and Cars with their kids. My brothers own Wiis and they play VC games. I come from a large family and counting consoles: 7 Wiis, 5 360s, 0 PS3s (5 PS2s). All this just to say that the Wii press conference was very exciting from the standpoint of the demographic outlined. The balance board, zapper and wheel will all be purchased (and in multiple units). People will not rush out to get a new PSP because it is *gasp* lighter and thinner. Games, games, games they say... well, I'll buy Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart and Smash Bros. I'll buy the Wii Fit and whatever zapper game comes with the mount. I'll even buy a couple other random titles... all by next spring. And you know what? I still will not have spent $500.

Any credibility you might have had flew out the window with your assumption that the Wii requires waving your arms around like a spaz, and that Zelda games are worthless.

Incidentally , I just read that Zelda might not appear again on the Wii, and that there certainly aren't any solid plans for the next one. Nintendo REALLY need to acknowledge their real fans: my heart kind of sank when - after the promise that Miyamoto was about to come out and show a project which would bring hardcore and casual gamers together - he brought out that little mat. I hope they step up the level for the newbies they're attracting to the eventual stage that there's no difference between the games made for them and the games made for me, because if their market remains these little university-course projects, it'll be a waste of one of the great developers in gaming past and present, and that would be tragic.

Not my favorite news sites, but billions of eyes just saw WiiFit, while Sony and MS games (while impressive looking) are being widely ignored.

I think Sony "won" because they are good at being flashy. Unfortunately, so far this generation they've failed to deliver. I think Wii Fit is more revolutionary than a lot of people give it credit for. The new peripheral has a lot of potential and I hope that eventually they come out with more serious work-out games for it. They could catch on like Tae Bo if marketed correctly. I think Nintendo is just being Nintendo this E3 and just not giving out much information as usual.

Sony's was overrated, but wins because Wipeout HD rocked. The whole talking through HOME was silly. Were they talking with their minds? Move your lips damn it! Take notes from GTAIV's cut scenes. Which not only have lips moving, but facial expression. MGS4 was more cut scenes. Zzzzz Who cares! The montage of games were touted as exclusives, when most of those are on 360 as well. Killzone2 looked amazing, but the AI was retarded. Enemies basically just stand there and get shot. Don't make any attempt to duck or cover or leap outta the way. Chewbacca costume looked like it was bought at the local halloween store and the jokes fell flat, no clapping. Awkward moment. ------------------------------ ------------------------- Nintendo Wow more games I have no interest in playing. WiiFIT. oh boy! Fun times ahead! hehe. Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart being online, thumbs up DS don't own one, don't want one. ------------------------------ -------------------------- Microsoft Nothing new. Basically everything they annouced, other than a few release dates. We knew. Boring annoucers Zzzz

That piece of shit is just a blu-ray player with a couple games thrown in for good measure. Talk about not giving a shit about the hardcore gamer. What games are people playing on it? Resistance? I like the MGS games, but they're like 8 hours, good for a rental. The only reason to buy MGS4 is because there isn't shit else for the system, but that isn't even coming out until "early" 2008. Now is NOT a good time to own a PS3, unless you want to watch blu-ray. The WII doesn't have much for games either, but RE4 is the shit, port or not. And although Trauma Center is a port, that is fun shit too and there's going to be a sequel. I'm not much of a Zelda fan, but Mario Galaxy looks like fun. And if it weren't for the pussies of the world, WII would get Manhunt 2 and it would be a sick, killer app. I don't really have anything bad to say about the 360, it's got some good games. No one is talking about GTAIV though, everyone I know is waiting for it to come out to go get a 360 (me included), no one is even thinking of the PS3.

Sony definitely won in terms of managing to impress the most people and get them talking. The momentum of excitement is currently in Sony's favour. Neither MS nor Nintendo showed anything new, or anything new...at least in terms of games. However, to be fair, MS's games were all coming out this year while most of Sony's were pushed to 2008. Also, with the year Sony has been having, it would break laws of physics for them to actually fall even further. They really had nowhere to go but up, while MS could only stay the same or go down. nitendo? They're in their own little world.

im an avid gamer. i have all three next gen systems. i want all three of them to do well and release good games, because, well, im an avid gamer.
why does there always have to be a winner? year by year each system has their ups and down, but all of them have their merits. now i understand not everyone can afford, or care enough about games to spend the college fund on systems, but just because you choose one, doesnt mean the other two completely suck.

the PROBLEM with the Wii is it sells systems not games?
by ScamsAndFlams
Jul 12th, 2007
06:03:18 PM
Do you have any idea how the console gaming business works? The entire point is to get systems into homes. Sony was going to take a loss one very PS3 even if they sold 100 million. The goal is to create a userbase and then profit off the software. I still think it's possible for the PS3 to build steam a few years into its lifespan--Sony isn't going to crumble like Sega did, twice. The price will keep coming down and the other systems simply won't be able to catch up in terms of hardware capabilities. BUT it's not a sure thing.

I'm convinced people who don't like the Wii have never played it. I even had fun playing that piece of shit Redsteel for HOURS, just because of the controller. Long live Wii.

When will some of you people stop your constant whining?? "Nintendo abandoned teh HARDCORE" blah blah gimmick blah blah mini-games blah blah graphics.

STFU

P oint the first - Nintendo has effectively proven that IT DOESN'T NEED YOU. You abandoned them in the last gen (along with most of the third party developers) so instead of trying to court you with a forever escalating hardware war they went after a new market - people who have never purchased a system before. And they've got them, not only with the Wii but they've got them on the DS. They have made this strategy clear for four years now and you can't bitch about them doing exactly what they said they would do. Especially when they're making money that you can't even dream of by using that strategy.

Point the second - Don't like the Wii? Fortunately for all of us we have other options. I happen to like my 360 and will probably buy the PS3 by the end of the year when some more good exclusives come out. Buy a system, enjoy the games, be happy.

Point the third - No, Wii Fit is not for you. It is for that "mainstream" segment of the population that they have effectively targeted thusfar. And it will sell a bajillion units and propel them head and shoulders ahead in terms of console sales.

Point the fourth (and final) - You can "vote" for what kind of games you do and don't want produced with your wallet. Software and hardware developers don't care what is said on a message board. They go by sales figures alone. Don't expect them to ignore the momentum Nintendo has right now. As long as you keep buying the games you like more games you like will be made. The success of one genre does not mean the others will stop existing.

In fact, I'm for it. That's why it's so disappointing to see it go unutilized. A new ip, built for the Wii, with a solid adventure storyline, for the teen+ gamer crowd - make this happen. If a third party won't do it, then do it yourself Nintendo. By the way, I think the game libraries currently for the PS3 and 360 suck as well. "But..but..in the future!" you can speculate on future games all you want, I only care about what's in stores now. And unless you have a time machine, that's what matters.

Fair points, I think the lineup for games coming out this year looks good. I'm looking forward to Halo 3 and Metroid Prime 3 (soon!), then Galaxy (I'm a Mario nerd, sue me), Brawl, RE5, and Kart. My problem is that I only have about 10 hours a week available to play games, fewer for games I can play when the kids aren't around. the way I see it my gameplaying time is pretty much booked for at least six months, maybe more, starting with the release of Halo and Prime.

Is definitely happening, but not a lot of details have been released. It sounds like it will work a lot like Kart DS, exchange friend codes if you want to play a specific friend. Otherwise you can still just connect and play with random people.

As for Nintendo creating a "regular" console it's for sure that they will release future gen consoles, but I doubt they'll abandon the motion control any time soon if that's what you mean. No reason to, if you think about it. What will be interesting to see is if they get back into the practice of trying to put out the console with the most powerful CPU and GPU. They did that once before and it didn't work out too well (GCN).

OK, Nintendo is genious. Make an inferior system geared towards family's, kids and nintenerds. During this CONSOLE/MEDIA WARS. Just sit back and make some cashe while SONY & MICRO$OFT DUKE IT OUT. Nintendo makes a basic gaming system and Obviously cheap in price. All this = $$$$ for Nintendo and i have no problem for that. I bought one for my kids. The games are for kids and the graphics are LAME, which is obvious its what i expect for $250.By the way LAME E3 for them. XBOX360 = Hardcore gamers.... Tons of games And who has time for that?? H-CORE Gamers and College Kids. Great Mid-Level System, easy for Developers to make games for. Micro$oft AKA MONEYWHORE$ own the Bank$. And it shows. They Do have Developers who dislike M$, and that will hurt them in the long run. Even though my xb360 has crashed multi times its still fun. Although it takes 4-ever to finish all the games...I still fire it up in my living room too unwind at night on my hi-def tv. E3 showed us the next few months and thats it! So it was pretty BLAH! PLAYSTATION3= Multimedia Diehards. Also the FUTURE...Sony is in it for the long haul. They Created a SUPER-SYSTEM so too speak. Its only a year old. 2006-2007 it is in its infancy. 2007-2008 as we seen in E3 is the begining. 2008-2009 (next E3) will be when its equaled with xbox360. And 2009-2010 PS3 DOMINATION. Currently Game Developers are just scratching the surface and figuring out the systems secrets/potental. My PS3 sits in my Home Theatre hooked up to my hidef 1080P Projector. And BLU-RAY is Total KILLER! The Games are getting sweeter. The Upconverter is sweet as well. Its perfect for any diehard Home Theatre Owner! Sony E3 Looked the best! This Madden 08 will be a good comparision of all 3 systems.

The only true gaming company out there whose whole business revolves around games. While Sony is out trying to whore more money out of the Blu-Ray format, because they've been so successful in the past, right?, Nintendo is getting on with it. This is the first negative I've heard on the Nintendo conference and considering the reviewers comments about himself, I'm not surprised. It seems Sony did have the best press conference though and I hope they've learned some hard lessons and adapt accordingly. Right now their machine sucks and they have no games of mention and their machine is too expensive to be worth a look. The Xbox 360 is suffering incredible failure rates but otherwise are doing quite well. No real complaints with them, except to keep it up.

You have fucking kids?! Jesus, I bet they're literate. If you're old enough to procreate, it's time to stop using numbers for words, homonyms or not. I frequently type in all lower-case online because it's informal but this is disgusting. Poor spelling, inappropriate capitalization, and no regard for punctuation. You take a swipe at college kids (which I certainly don't mind, my peers disappoint me as much as they would you if you just a touch of mental clarity) but go around capitalizing words like "LAME", "KILLER", "DOMINATION", and (shudder) "H-CORE". You also pepper your petulant attempt at a paragraph with tech-dropping comments about kicking back in your "living room too (sic) unwind at night on [your] hi-def tv", and the PS3 you have "hooked up to [your] hidef 1080P Projector", as well your totally dude/sweet UPCONVERTER. It reminds me of the first day back from Christmas break in the second grade, hearing classmates telling one another about what Turtles and Hot Wheels and Nerfs and Sega games they got in a voice loud enough for the whole class to hear. You clearly have adult ADD. Take your prescription low-dose amphetamine and go sound out a bedtime story to your kids. It's good practice and I'm sure you move your lips when you read anyway. i agree with with 'TiNSeLToWN.' although i dont look at any of his points as negatives. i play my wii when non-gamer-but-curious friends are over, and we have fun. I VERY MUCH look forward to smash bros.
i love my xbox360 because thats what most of my hardcore gamer friends play, and i can enjoy multiplayer with them on 360.
BUT i also feel like i didnt waste my money with the ps3, because its going to justify my ownership real soon. (i hope im not wrong) i even think 'home' is going to be its killer app.

When I first heard about their new strategy with the Wii I thought they were fucking insane. But, of course, they knew EXACTLY what they were doing. They went for the mainstream with a smaller, more affordable machine, and brought the new controller for good measure. IMO people can whine as much as they want about the controller, using this tech in gaming is in its infancy, Nintendo made the first step forward to making gaming more interesting, and for the first time EVER it isn't some fucking gimmick. To people slating the lack of games, I've had fucking great fun playing Zelda to death, Red Steel, Monkey Ball, Wii Sports, Mario Strikers Charged Football. And now I'm on to Resident Evil 4, despite previously owning it. It's a revelation with the controller and in true widescreen. Fuck all of you who think the Wii is sub-par. There are other systems if you want different games. Stop whining. The PS3 is weaker in comparison, at least on the games front. The fact that it has HD isn't as big a deal as I thought it would be. I only care about its Blu-ray capabilities at the moment (this is until GTA4 hits, muthafucks). The big four Wii titles are on their way too - Metroid, Mario Galaxy (incredible), Smash Bros, Mario Kart (fucking online motherfuckers! Nintendo actually deliver with online play for once!). I can't wait to check out the Wii Wheel add-on for Mario Kart. And the Zapper which looks great as far as I can see.
We ever gonna get a new Punch Out or Fight Night on Wii

Or even Fight Night on the Wii? I think that game could make for some great multiplayer. My bros and I almost always get into fist fights because I'm always kicking their asses at Fight Night 3. I want to continue the domination on the Wii with a new Punch Out game or Fight Night.

When I laid eye on the controller I was stoked. I said, "this is brilliant." I showed everyone around me that wasn't into video games, older adults etc. and they agreed that they would like it, based on the first teaser ads alone! What I didn't see coming were the crap minigames and exercise and downright boring titles. I'm not saying to stop making those, they have an audience... but I like epic single player games with story. The only title on the Wii that has it was Zelda, which is awesome! And the only reason they had it at launch was because it was long in development for the gamecube! It would be like Sony delaying God of War II, slapping motion sensitivity in it and putting it on PS3 first posing it as a PS3 launch title... But okay, I'll bite, the controller is fun in Zelda... but that's fucking it! I see nothing for the Wii coming out like that... maybe No more Heroes... but otherwise nothing! This is an area where Sony will triumph in. MS will come in second. Wii, post zelda looks bleak where epic story driven games are concerned... and after Zelda didn't sell well enoguh to the casual market, Nintendo thinks that's the end of it. Once Smash Bros, Galaxy and Metroid are out what's next? Mario kart... and I bet Mario tennis... Maybe Kirby, Donkey Kong, and Diddy kong racing. Which will be great but no thanks... I'll play them at a friend's. Maybe once Hideo Kojima is finished with MGS he can fix the situation on the Wii... but so far I'm getting a bad feeling...

I own all 3 and once I am done blazing through RE4 Wii version my Wii will be sitting for quite a while. With Lair coming out in August I am stoked. I also love Resistance of Man and Gears Of War. But the game that will crush on both systems is going to be Resident Evil 5. The Wii will not be getting that title. Mario Galaxy looks ok but is not as exciting as Ratchat and Clank Future looks for the PS3.

Seriously...when someone comments on the state of the seating arrgements and is to much of a moron to understand that E3 this year is industry and the industry likes to make money. They down sized it for a reason...oh and complaing about sales figures?? hands up who doesnt know thats how they always start their shows ^^. Obviously the reviewer is out of touch with the gaming industry as a whole. How can anyone not get or understand the Wii...seriously these sony fan boys/girls make me sick, and its funny how the best thing you can comment on about Sony is their carpeting. ^^

I don´t get why people always claim that a console is only for games. I know there are hardcore gamers, who have stopped watching movies, cause they spend at least 10 hours a day playing world of warcraft and other online crap, but fortunatly there are still a lot of gamers who enjoy a couple of films a week. I´m one of them. I have nearly hundred dvds and have watched them on my ps2. The reason i will buy a ps3 are the exclusive games (mgs4, heavenly sword and lair) AND for blu ray hd capabilities. First blu ray I plan to buy is 300!

Wii games have actually been selling very well... not just the console.... go check the sales numbers. Or just check out this link for software company percentage as well as unit sales... http://www.gamespot.com/news/6 172584.html Not ONE ps3 game on the list... though there are a few ps2 ones... AND Wiiplay with remote and Mario Party 8 both outselling any 360 game as well... Imagine what it will be in another years time.. ooohboy... Nintendo will basically own that list then.

As I said above, I hate the term "hardcore gamer", and that my problem with Nintendo at the moment is their overly-strong focus on non-games and mini-games. I ABSOLUTELY don't mind that there are a lot of these kinds of games on the Wii: what I do mind is that it's Nintendo who's using their resources to create them, because it's awaste of a world class developer.

I buy Nintendo products to play Nintendo games. Third parties (yes even Konami and Capcom) CANNOT touch Nintendo when they are at their best. This is because the developer excels in design, a factor overlooked by so many self-proclaimed hardcore gamers (many of whom clearly exist on this thread). For me, a TRUE "hardcore" gamer isn't someone who plays Gears of War, or pays $600 for one console, it's someone who DOESN'T do things like rip on Nintendo for being kiddie, which is one of the biggest clichés in gaming, and who appreciates the actual structural DESIGN of a good game, as well as intuitive controls etc. The fact that the Wii doesn't have great graphics all the time is COMPLETELY irrelevant, and anyone who has played a good Wii game and assessed what it is they enjoy about it will know that. It also helps if they're a TRUE "hardcore" gamer, because then they'll have standards which extend beyond visuals and the fact that there are fucking GUNS in the game. If Wii games don't get any better looking than RE4 or Metroid Prime 3, then I would be TOTALLY fine with that if good game design and DEPTH become more common in the system's games.

I fully supported Nintendo, even in the Gamecube days because I still remain convinced that if certain Nintendo games appeaered on other systems, it would be an entirely different story.

For me, a crucial difference between "Killer apps" like Twilight Princess for Wii and MGS4 for PS3 is that Twilight Princess is already available, and people have moved on, realistically accepting that there's more to the console than the game they just played (although better Wii games are still on the horizon). But just look at the amount of Sony support which bases its entire foundation on this one game that they haven't played. If MGS4 was already available, then the same thing would happen: people would stop using it as a reason to buy the system, because it's one fucking $60 game. They would look to the horizon exactly like Wii owners are doing and see NO MORE than a few games worth getting excited bout, EXACTLY like what Wii owners are doing. Jonno just stated above that Nintendo should almost simply DEPEND on Hideo Kojima to come and save their console, just like he will supposedly do with the PS3.

Finally, anyone who thinks a game like Mario Kart or Super Mario Galaxy is not a hardcore game compared to Gears of War or Resistance really needs to look at how they evaluate games because they seem to be equating depth and maturity with guns, and in many cases big tits and swear words, which is too fucking disturbing to think about.

That wasn't mentioned at press conference for a reason... and its not something like wiifit (though I for one think that thing looks like it will kick ass, I loved me my power pad...) I dunno, I see a huge game announcement coming, maybe at TGS, maybe not... I kinda almost feel like this was purposely left out of E3, like to psych people out, and then BOOM out of nowhere give the news... I dunno what it would be lol, just a game that will have everyone going "well, well hot damn" Maybe GTAwii involving the zapper... not saying it will be IV, but maybe a new game? I would say the comment made during the press conference about a game using it, and not even saying more just saying another game... I think theres something big behind that. But pretty sure they said in-house so that can't be a GTA.. but maybe I'm wrong and they didnt say in house.

I'd either spend too much time on there arguing over pointless crap, or else, as you said, become suicidal over the amount of ridiculous excuses for arguments that are continually thrown about.

Even though my previous point argued that amazing visuals on the Wii are irrelevant, I'd like to clarify that I still think games should have a certain amount of polish: that's is to say, it doesn't matter if a game looks like Wii Sports because that game doesn't have an abundance of disgusting-looking textures or character models, but some games look like early N64 games, which I don't think is so acceptable. In other words, huge advancement in graphics isn't an issue, but actually regressing over the period of a generation probably is (for me, at least).
Sony price-cut
by Leopold Scotch
Jul 13th, 2007
10:09:07 AM
If the above story is true, then it's similar to the deal I got with my Xbox 360, which gave me Gears of War and Crackdown bundled with the system for the retail price of just the system (I then bough Oblivion and Rainbow Six brand new at sale prices, so a good deal all in all). Since those are games I probably would've bought anyway, it was as good as an unofficial, but significant, price-cut. I suppose if you were going to buy Motorstorm and a big hard drive anyway, it the same kind of idea. Sony are really trying to find that sweet spot though, since it looks like two out of their three PS3 models might be discontinued just eight months into its release. Maybe at the end of the day, the more effort they make, the better it is for their fans.

so it was 90 minutes of nothing, yet you wrote a big article about it. hmm. sounds contradictory. Nintendo showed off 3 new attachments, and dated 2 of their most high profile titles. thats something for sure. i dont see how you can say you don't "GET" the wii, but then call wii fit "amazingly cool". you said yourself that you dont like the controller because you have to move your wrists- but you're excited about working out? lol. thats a good one! Sony's PSP is completely lukewarm to all gamers... why by ANOTHER psp when theres still nothing AAA-shit-in-my-pants amazing for it? only nintendo can re-sell you game boys over and over with redesigns. because they are cheep and are actually better than older models. Sony showed games at their conference, true, but how many are coming out this year? :/ 2008 will be amazing for them, but by then, the Wii and xbox will be in everyone's home and no one will have the need for a PS3... the time is fading fast. they should have held off on GOW2 and made it a PS3 game. that would have brought people over. just like Twilight Princess did for the Wii. I dont see how you can say you're a hardcore gamer, but you dont have a wii because its "sold out for 9 months". hardcore gamers -and gamers in general- don't stand idly by as things sell out. the are proactive and call stores, drive around cities, etc. i have two NON-GAMER friends (both female) who have fought to find Wiis and love them to death. If they can do it, anyone can. hardcore gamer? more like hardcore lamer.

I'm not saying Nintendo needs their console 'saved'
by Johnno
Jul 13th, 2007
01:50:34 PM
I'm saying Nintendo needs hardcore games that appeal to gamers pre-Wii era. Nintendo can ditch all their hard core titles and still fly high on the Wii only with the casual market. All the top selling games are casual market titles! The Legend of Zelda got disappointing sales! And Nintendo is considering that their Wii audience doesn't want games like that anymore... And E3 only pushed home the idea that once the smash bros and metroids are out... what's next? That's my worry.

And as for HIdoe Kojima, I'm looking forward to what he can do on the Wii. And only Xbox fanboys make it seem like MGS4 is the end all be all of the PS3. No it isn't assholes, but it is the most anticipated title on PS3, much like Halo is to the Xbox. And as tradition goes, MGS games have always been showcases for the Playstation system, so we're excited to imagine that MGS4 will show off what the PS3 can do as Kojima is one of the few developers who likes to harness every faucet of the system! And exclusivity means better optimized code and pressures the developer to make sure their game is that much better rather than thinking they can slap something together pander ti so it's good across all console architecture and spread it around to maximize sales. That's why AAA titles are always usually system exclusives! Shit! Just look at Portable Ops on PSP and all that Kojima did with that! Even Lunar Knights on DS had me excited with all the cool stuff he does in it, and I've yet to play that but it'll be the next DS game I pick up along with Zelda. And yeah folks, what's wrong with the PS3 playing movies? I like games.... I like movies... and the system does both! I like all in one boxes. I think Nintendo are assholes for not including DVD playback in the Wii, it won't cost them much at all. Say I want to set up different TVs for each system. My PS3 in my living room on my HDTV, and the Wii in another lounge room downstairs with a suitable TV and plenty of room for overenthusiastic Wii sports fanatics to flail around without breaking anything. Now what if someone is using the TV upstairs and I want to watch a DVD... Maybe I could go down and enjoy it... oh wait! I can't! I'll need to get a whole other DVD box to do it and wire all that shit up. It's the simple convenience of it all that would've been nice to have. That's why I love the PSP. I can go somewhere, listen to music on the bus, watch videos on the card, take all these crazy E3 trailers and demos on it and show it to other people and get them excited about games! Toss my Demo reels on there and show to clients, pictures too for convenience, and play games, all in my hand. The internet browser could use a lot of work though, but sometimes I have used it to quickly google something and make a point. With all those features and the wide selection of games on PSP and the fact that it now costs about $30 more than a DS for a core pack there's simply no excuse for the negativity about this console. PSP has earned it's spot after a slow start and I bet PS3 will follow the same pattern and all this hating and bashing will no longer be warranted and be in the past.

MGS is a good series but it concentrates way too much on cutscenes. I was especially disappointed with MSG2. I think it's rediculous that after 3 years all that's been shown of MGS4 are cutscenes. It would be OK if it was a movie but it's a game. I'll try it out when it comes to XBOX360. Konami won't have a choice since they won't be able to make their money back from PS3 sales alone. PS3 is a flop. 8 months in and it's dropping its price. It sales for underneath the price you can get it in stores on EBAY. It's the only console stacked up and collecting dust in Best Buy. But at least you get to play in HD! LOL.

For fans who are still unhappy with the name of Nintendo's current home console, the Nintendo Wii, you are in for a shock. In a surprise E3 announcement last night, Nintendo unveiled a new name for its Wii console. "We originally called it the 'Wii' to reflect the fact that we hoped to include the entire family and not just the hardcore gamer in on the fun," says Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata, "But now we feel that there is a more appropriate name for this console that should be used by the hardcore gamers." That's right, hardcore gamers no longer have to refer to Nintendo's console as the "Wii", as it's new name is the "Everyone But You". Shigeru Miyamoto said, "We feel this new name better expresses the target demographic. With 'Wii' we meant 'we' as in 'everyone'. But now the core gaming audience is seeing that the Wii isn't for everyone, it is for 'Everyone But You'." Nintendo plans to release shipments of the retitled "Everyone But You" console for this holiday season. "Everyone But You" has a solid holiday lineup with upcoming titles such as "Cooking Game for Your Mom", "Help Your Girlfrield Lose Weight", and "Now Even Grandpa Can Play!"

All in good fun people.
