The Ethan Haas sites aren't related to this movie, people just assumed. There's no conspiracy. Those sites, from what i've seen, are for an upcoming computer game called Alpha Omega. Hell, even the puzzles and music were extremely reminiscent of the entire Myst series.

JJ as well as other people in the entertainment field have noticed the power of the internet and media sources. Look at the Nine Inch Nails viral marketing plan for Year: Zero. FANTASTIC. Its a cheap, exciting way to connect with fans, and create buzz. If you want to just see the movie, tv, or listen to a cd...then do that, but dont hate on artistic people attempting to add an additional sourse for fans to connect and help create a buzz.

Found that site earlier, and was excited about it. Did not have time to read all the posts here, and missed some earlier reference to it. Excuse me for offending you, oh Holy asshat of the AICN talkbacks. Get out of your mother's underwear, and thank a fella for trying to help out, even if it was already posted. Some people may have missed it, as I did, and may see my short concise post. BTW, idiots who try to flame others for trying to help should develop some type of social skills, and not just try to regulate the internet.

Unfortunately, the Slusho! website suggests that the film might merely be an ambitious of the mad-scientist creates giant-monster movie, with metaphysical overtones.

Clearly “Slusho!” is a dangerous and possibly parasitic product. On its website, the bizarre “history” of Slusho! is cheerily acclaimed a story “of magic and triumph.” We are told that a young girl named Noriko “dedicated her life to refreshment!” Alarmingly, as a child, “her classmates called her ‘the Smallest Whale’ because she would DRINK ENDLESS AMOUNTS of beverages at every meal.” She was so devoted to loving and drinking “libations,” in fact that she shunned ordinary friendship and fun to instead concentrate her time and attention on combining “fruits, vegetables and other natural ingredients...to make great new beverages.” Although apparently anti-social, “her deliciousness” made her beloved throughout her community.

Noriko, however, was “NEVER SATISFIED” and yearned to create a new flavor so unique that it would best her every prior concoction. She left behind her son (a budding scientist with a similar interest in experimentation) to search the globe for “the GREATEST, TASTIEST INGREDIENT in the world.” Tragically, she disappeared “and was never heard from again.”

In his mother’s absence, Noriko’s bereaved son Ganu attempted to carry on her life’s work, but ultimately abandoned the tasty-flavored-drink business to become a leading marine scientist. Later, however, in a twist of fate, “he and his teammates discovered a unique “DEEP-SEA INGREDIENT.” While pondering the use of this material, Ganu had a dream in which he was a “tiny fish” who meets with “a whale” who instructs him to drink the substance. In his dream, he goes on to drink “LOTS AND LOTS” of the ingredient until he “grows into an ENORMOUS WHALE.” Ganu awakens from his dream convinced that he has found “the MAGIC INGREDIENT” that his mother had hoped to discover.

Thereafter, Ganu determines that he will “make his mother’s DREAM live” by making “the TASTIEST DRINK” on earth. In order to manufacture the drink in a “fresh” state, the material would need to be removed from the very deep, very cold, highly pressurized ocean floor in its “near-frozen state.”

Having conceived this plan, Ganu returned to his mother’s business to create a drink comprised of this “new ingredient” - Slusho!

The “history” ends with the happy admonition that “EVERYONE WHO DRINKS SLUSHO! TASTES NORIKO’S DREAM AND BECOMES A SMALL WHALE LIKE NORIKO - BECAUSE YOU WANT TO DRINK HUGE AMOUNTS OF SLUSHO! BET YOU CAN’T DRINK JUST SIX!”

Seemingly “Rob” is moving to Japan (in a probable homage to traditional giant, city-destroying monsters awakened from dormancy by mankind’s rapacious treatment of the planet). In a “twist,” Rob may be moving to work with the company producing “Slusho!” (If so, the movie may become too cute for its own good...) The apparent sea monster seemingly enters the city from the harbor (as evidenced by the destruction of the Statute of Liberty), and is probably a mutated Noriko, or Ganu, or some other Slusho!-slurping soul. (Maybe only a “little whale” preceding the climactic appearance of Big Mama Whale...) Assuming that Slusho! actually plays a significant part in the finished film and is not merely a red herring, it seems likely that ingestion of the “special ingredient” can cause the drinker to mutate into a monster (become an “enormous whale”) and become part of a “hive-mind” (taste the dream).

Someone mentioned Larry Cohen’s “The Stuff,” and that certainly seems to be a relevant antecedent. In Cohen’s horror-satire, miners discover a mysterious white substance bubbling up from the underground which, on tasting, is highly delicious. Unfortunately, it is also highly addictive, alive and parasitical, and eventually turns its users into zombies with a desperate craving for more of the product. (Taglines included: “Enough is not enough,” “It’ll change your life forever,” and “What are you eating? ...Or is it eating you?”) A similar plot was used in an episode of “Futurama,” concerning a similarly-addictive and tasty “libation” called “Slurm,” which featured an product logo which is remarkably similar to “Slusho.” The selling phrase, "Bet you can't drink just six" is more than a little over the top; again, however, maybe the entire "Slusho" site is designed to distract us from the bibical/cthulu/traditional apocalypse which are the real concerns of the film. In any case, I'm not yet buying the "Ethan Haas" denials...

I love the trailer because you don’t see the bad stuff coming, and the camcorder gives an immediacy to the moment which is never belied by bad special effects. When the Statute of Liberty’s head becomes recognizable you immediately understand that you have a ringside seat at world’s end.

By the way, based on the Parks Department website, the SOL’s head is 17 feet tall, measuring from the bottom of her chin to her cranium (top of her head), and is 10 feet wide, measuring from ear to ear; accordingly, it would seem they got the proportions right.

and I'm a terrible swimmer. I almost failed an elective swimming class in college because I couldn't figure out the butterfly stroke.
