I would love to pick Joss's brain regarding his original plans for Firefly and Angel Season 6. Although I don't read comics, I'd still like to know what he would have done with Wonder Woman. I'd even like to talk to him about stoning women. But if he started in on the fucking retarded "womb envy" rant he wrote on his blog, I think I would have to beat him to death with a pepper mill.

It's hilarious and sad how Whedon tries to pass the buck on Alien Resurrection. Read his script... the entire movie is there. Two action sequences got cut for budget, resulting in a rather unfortunate new ending for the film, but the first 1 hour and 40 minutes or so is word-for-word taken from the very first draft. Whedon acts like they raped his baby, I guess because he envisioned it looking different or having a different cast or something. Because he just can't complain about that script. It's his script completely. He even did the rewrites.

Well not you-I picture Kevin Sorbo-antwoot, Whedon is one fo the few guys I would like to have a dinner with...you cant imagine the conversation running dry, cos if it did you would be able to rant at him to make a sequal to Serenity....which has to happen...like now...

that anyone would pay money to have dinner with this guy, other than to maybe pick up writing tips, or to gain contacts? If I wanted to sit around and talk about Star Wars and Tarantino movies, I'd get a 12 pack and hang out with some buddies. I don't need some middle aged balding guy for that.

Let's see - Jon Favreau, hosting of course. Joss Whedon, Neil Gaiman, Kevin Smith (maybe he won't be so juvenile with better company because the guy is actually smart), and, let's see, Guillermo del Toro. Now that's a dinner conversation I'd love to see. Favreau, make it happen! (after Iron Man, of course).

So how is Equality Now going to stop these offenses?
by howstone

From the eBay listing: "Working with national human rights organizations and individual activists, Equality Now documents violence and discrimination against women and mobilizes international action to support their efforts to stop these human rights abuses." So, by writing down that these things are happening, and telling the Islamist countries that they're being bad (yep, that's right - they're some of the worst), that's going to make them stop. Because that's always worked. Joss, I'm a big fan, but you gotta get a grip. These bastards are proud of how they're mistreating women. Because they're evil people who are consumed by a religion of hate (And no, I don't think all Moslems are. I've met quite a few who aren't. But the ones in power in the Middle East fall on the evil side of the ledger.). Just talking about it is not going to help. And until someone can figure out how to have the Moslem "renaissance" that the Jewish and Christian religions have had that separates the religion and the government, it's gonna be SSDD for a long time.

Actually, Amber Benson is a gorgeous (and cool) woman that most of you would be lining up to date. She was portrayed somewhat dorkily on the show - and her costumes made her look bigger than the other anorexic actors. She's actually quite thin in real life. So no more dissing on my Tara!

And howstone, what part of 'mobilizes international action' don't you understand? This certainly sounds like more than just talking. Anyway, it's better than hiding your head and remaining silent about atrocities. Like that's worked before. Things can change. Isn't Egypt finally outlawing female circumcision? And I think if you check your history, Moslems had a 'renaissance' long before the Western world ever did.

Muslems had there 'renaissance'

Yes oisin5199, talking is better than sticking your head in the sand. But I was getting e-mails for YEARS talking about the atrocities that the Taliban were committing against women in Afghanistan, and how we should submit petitions to the UN for them to be punished for their actions. Well, I signed those, and those petitions (and all the talking) did absolutely DICK. Only one thing got them out of power: military force. And while that isn't the answer everywhere (and I hope it sticks there), but sometimes it's necessary to stop trying to appease and talk nice to the bad people and just kick some ass. Kamala, thanks for the correction. Unfortunately, education is apparently not as important in that part of the world now as it was then. But then again, any culture that prohibits half their population from being educated is going to have problems.
sorry, howstone

Military force does NOT change cultural attitudes. Education does. You can blow up the Taliban, but that doesn't change their attitudes about women. I can't see how bombing stuff ever solves any problems, let alone ones that have nothing to do with military power. Granted, I don't know exactly what 'mobilizing' means, so I can't say if it will be effective or not, but that doesn't stop EN from being an honorable cause to support.

down syndrome. She looked like a complete mong whenever anyone was talking to her, and her character was bullshit to boot. The introduction of her, Riley, and Adam was when Buffy started to get shit. Obviously it didn't help that Angel and Cordelia left, but these new characters were fucking bollocks. I hated series four of Buffy, the only thing that saved it was Spike. Don't get me started on the introduction of Dawn.

When we start seeing videos of 12 year olds beheading people, a Mickey Mouse clone promising "blood in the streets", UN schools bombed for teaching women, acid thrown in the faces of women who don't cover them, and people killed over the way Jesus is portrayed on South Park... then we can talk. In the mean time, go open in gay atheists book store in Tehran or Damascus, and see how you are treated. Other than that, shot the fuck up, ok?

Since the focus of Josh's charity is all about stopping abuses of women, let stay on topic. Some of things they themselves say they are trying stop are stonings, honor killings, Islamic courts sentencing women to be gang raped, and the denial of women to get an education and vote in Islamic countries. Since they aren't any countries governed by Christianity alone (only Islam contains both religious AND government rules in its charter) it might be tough to make an oranges to oranges comparision, but still, let's try this. The next time you hear about a "Christian" country that denies women both education and the right to vote, and who's courts can sentenced a woman to be raped, get back to me. But I think by that time you will gone from size small Aquaman underoos to extra large Depend undergarments. Now run along little boy before yo embarrass yourself some more.
