You may not like the creative decisions chosen in the prequels but it's laughable to say they are "depressingly bad". The acting is no better or worse than the acting in Star Wars or Jedi. Harrison Ford turns in an awful performance in Jedi. Compared to all other summer movies nowadays(hello Fantastic Four and Pirates) the prequels look fantastic.

Tonight, from 5-10, the city is putting on a party with an outdoor screening of one of the flicks, they won't say which and all kinds of events. Shooting will last till July 7 and will be set in 1957 and be filmed all around Yale. They have a motorcycle chase up Chapel street that they hired a ton of extras for.

I will say this-ROTS was better than I ever expected barring a few moments (Padmes death scene and the infamous NOOOOO) but c'mon Lucas didnt drop the ball-it ended with a good guy becoming evil and had the balls to be as dark as you like. It was good stuff. I keep hoping they'll call of Indy 4 though-we dont need it. Particualrly cos you can tell its gonna haveannoying scenes of Shia running around with Indy blaming him for never being there for him as a kid and then they get in a scrape and "bond". Guaranteed.

He stated it a while back. He's the director. Lucas is there just to be noticed. And who wouldn't notice him with his friggin' chin-o-chins? Nah .... total faith, man. Total faith.

And I read on the other Indy TB that someone thought raiders was a snooze fest and Crusade was the winner of the 3 .... blows my mind. I watched Raiders again Friday when the pic of Ford went up (I was was too pumped - almost left work early just to go home and watch it) and man ... blows the other 2 away - and I watched them too. I had a film fest.

Keep the set reports coming - theraider.net - had it up first. I can't friggin' wait.

If he's the worst thing in this movie I'll be happy. He at least comes with a descent resume unlike Hayden and "Jingle All the Way Kid." Star Wars prequels were shit. All three. Including that aptly named ROTS. Spielberg in the director's chair on Indy 4 is enough to make it not suck.

by droxford

...or you surely will be disappointed. Don't forget that Spielberg did a crappy job with Temple of Doom. And Lucas did an equally crappy job with many Star Wars elements. It seems common that movies with high expectations seldom live up to them. Nobody was expecting The Matrix to be monumental. But it was. Afterwards, everyone built up huge expectations for Reloaded. It didn't live up to them. Then, people again built up expectations for the finale in Revolutions. Again, it didn't live up. If you're expecting Indy 4 to be some colossus of a movie, it's very probable that you'll be disappointed.

difference is, this movie is being made by spielberg, lucas, and harrison F"N ford! the wach. bros. dont quite have the understanding of movie magic quite like those three. the trio of spielberg, lucas, and ford have had MANY boxoffice juggernauts. so to expect quality from them is normal. the wach bros put out one really good film. maybe two if you count V for Vendetta. I hear where you are coming from, but the comparison isnt quite there.

the aliens story could be great- there's a level in the arcade game metal slug 2 that has a classic flying saucer tied up with ropes next to some crates in a hanger-it looks like it belongs in an indy movie. Of course there's aliens in the indy saga- they're packed in crates right next to the ark in that massive warehouse.

Here's something I always wondered. And please, whomever knows for sure help me out here, because this is one of those geeks-only kind of question. I thought Indy and his dad were now immortal and wouldn't age after drinking from the Holy Grail. Am I right or wrong here? The Grail gives life, that's what the Knight said, right? Everlasting life. The Knight must have been pushing 900. If I'm wrong, someone let me know. But if I'm right, how the hell are they going to explain his old age?

I am in. Indy is my Star Wars, I was so stoked when the DVD's came out. I pray this doesn't suck, the only thing worrying me is the LeBoeuf kid. I really don't want a self-referential humour type character in there. Thankfully Lucas isn't directing and frankly didn't script it either so no hammy dialogue and crappy over-CGI. I hope. Has never been in question has it Quint? His laziest-shot film is easily The Last Crusade (except for the reveal of the invisible bridge) and that's regarded (inexplicably) almost on a par with Raiders. But then what do I know? Temple Of Doom has always been my favourite Indy film, by far.
"crappy job with Temple of Doom"
by Reynard Muldrake
Jun 26th, 2007
11:59:48 AM
droxford - seriously? And that it was equally crappy as what Lucas did to Star Wars? I can't believe I'm even dignifying your opinion with a response. Temple of Doom - yes, Spielberg was in a dark place, it's a bit heavy...but it's so priceless in so many places and owns 89% of what passes for action films since then that it is above reproach, unless you're comparing it to the best of the Spielberg canon. Could be my childhood nostalgia talking, but don't for a second compare ToD to something like the Phantom Menace.

Seriously, does anyone really want to see those on DVD? Five minutes into it your eyes will be glazing over. It's a "history lesson" under the guise of Indiana Jones. It would be like watching The Young Luke Skywalker Chronicles where each week he visits a different farm to learn about crops. Also, I agree that the "old" Harrison Ford jokes are already tiresome. Is new iconic moments and lines. Seriously, enough already. This whole Indy-bashing business is getting old -- and, no, not Ford old. First, this films is going to be considerably better than the Star Wars prequels. Why, you ask? Well, because the MAIN STAR of the originals is coming. THe Star Wars prequels were missing Han, Luke and Leia -- THE END!!!!! Take away those three, and you're left with fan fiction crap. Bitch all you want about the star wars prequels, but lucas didnt HAVE to make them. He did it to make money and to shut people up. He succeeded at the former, failed at the latter, and changed the star wars universe forever. Boo friggin hoo. get over it. Indy is going to be MUCH, MUCH different. After all, INDIANA JONES is actually back. And, as if that wasn't good enough, the guy who played indiana jome sin the originals is back, too. The film is set, what, like 20 years after Raider, right? So, yeah, Indy is going to be older. BUT WHO CARES? The dude isn't rambo, he's not rocky, he's not superman -- he's a NERDY COLLEGE PROFESSOR!!!! The dude has more insecurities than a teenage girl, and the fact that he's old in this one actually makes it cooler. he can still plit planes, he can still drive tanks, he can still use a whip -- sorta -- and he can still wise crack with the best of them. Oh, and ford won't be crusy. isn't it obvious that he's been phoning it in for the past 15 years until, well, until they made the next INDY film. The guy is loaded, older, doesn't need to work. he was waiting for this, and he'll kick total ass in the role. Eat fish.

who cares? how is this a problem? the 1950s gave birth to popular science fiction -- i think -- and searching for alien artifacts would play into that. indy's always dealt with supernatural artifacts, so aliens would be nothing new -- just not religious. hell, if anything, alien artifacts would be more grounded in reality than ghosts coming out of the ark of the covenant and liquifying the faces of evil nazis. ya dig?

Grail and Eternal Life - The Final Word
by Mosquito March
Jun 26th, 2007
12:43:05 PM
The Grail is infused with the power of God. There is no reason to believe that it would suddenly not work if it wasn't in the temple, because it's an instrument of God, and God's power goes everywhere. It would work fine - IF you could get it out of the temple. But, the Seal doesn't let you leave the temple with it. It's basically a big mystical booby trap system, really no different from the trap that tries to prevent Indy from taking the idol from the temple at the beginning of Raiders. But, the power of God is forever - it doesn't stop when the Seal is crossed, you just can't safely take it with you, and therefore can't drink from it every day and continue to receive its benefits. Drinking from the Grail once would give Indy a boost, and maybe add a small fraction of time to his life, but the effect isn't taken away from Indy when he crosses the Seal. If that were the case, Henry Sr.'s newly healed gunshot wound should reappear and kill him. It doesn't. The only importance of the Seal is that the cup physically can't leave the premises.

Although I agree that the Jones' no longer have eternal life if they pass the seal, i still like to believe that by drinking the cup once they do get a little more vibrant and a life-span that is extended a little but by no means "eternal." and does Dr. Jones Sr still have a bullet in him?

He's the Executive Producer for Christ's sake! It's a joint collaboration between the 2. Spielberg in front of the camera, Lucas behind the scenes. They make a good team. I think the Indiana Jones saga so far is the best movie trilogy ever from top to bottom. I put it higher than Star Wars (both triogies), LOTR, The Matrix, any of them. All three movies were a thrill ride from beginning to end. I trust these guys. Lucas is a great storyteller and Spielberg is a great director. Chances are very small that this won't be good...

Not the ol' "Guess what! You have a son you never knew about! Haha! And now that you've just met, you have to take him with you on your life-threatening adventures! Hah be careful with him!" trick. I was imagining Shia might just be a student at the college he had been mentoring and decides to bring along on an asskicking mission. Or something else.

Just read the script- I hate the opening prologue with indy on the uncharted island full of dinosaurs-dinos and aliens in one movie is just too much- feels too much like jurassic park and kingkong. If they wanted indy with dinosaurs they should have just made Indiana Jones and the Lost World of Dinosaurs back in 93 instead of park.

1) Indy uses "First Alert" to call Shia when he has FALLEN AND CAN'T GET UP and

Why can't Indy just go after another relic? This proposed plot (which I pray isn't true) flips the first three films over and rapes them in the ass. Think about it.

I don't understand all the peolple going 'told you so! told you it would be good!' about TF.

No-one thought it was going to be anything less than a big Micheal Bay film, even if the reviews are brilliant the haters where still right in that they woill still not like it. Because they don't like Bay films.

If you didn't like Armageddon or The Island then you won't like TF.

I like Bay in a sense that i can enjoy his MTV style shit but no matter how perfect a Bay film TF is the Bay haters will still not like it.

will be crap, when was the last time Speilberg was less than brilliant.

Just think of the last buch of films he made... Catch me if you Can, Minority Report, The Terminal, War of the Worlds, Munich.

How many other directors do you know in their 60's producing so many quality films within such a short space of time?

The films he has made in the last 6 years or so would be enough for most young directors to call a successful carrer.

But instead it is a director in his 60's who is winding down after 3 decades at the top.

People praise Scorssese or Coppola for making a couple of standout films early in their carreer and then just making geric shit for the rest of their lives.

Spielberg gets shit even though h has had the equivilent of 3 amazing careers.

Most directors would have peaked at ET or the first Indy instead he went on to seemingly peak again with Savong Private Ryan or Schindlers List. And now it looks like it might be another 10 years before we see the old man start to slow down.

He has made 6 films sinse 2000, all of them fresh, different and of great scale, i cannot think of any young director (maybe Soderberg) who could have the energy and skill to work so fast.

All they need to do is enhance the CG in the final battles and it will piss all over Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith. Podrace is an amazing sequence (I will always stand by that) and the Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan/Lord Maul saber fight blows anything else away (name me anything that comes close in Clones and Sith - P.S. if you say Yoda I will kill you in cold blood) OK, Jake Lloyd as Anakin is plain annoying, but is he more annoying that Hayden Christenson? The answer to that question is - NO. Hayden annoys me more because at that age he should be VADER, you don't care if he isn't badass Vader when he's ten-years-old, but in Clones and Sith he should be much more than a whiney idiot who comes across as being so incredibly dumb for falling into Palpatine's trap and so incredibly weak for fucking up his life by marrying Padme. If someone told me ten years ago that Lucas was going to show Vader as a weak, whiney fuckup in the prequels who spouts dialogue about sand being brittle I would have shot first like Greedo in the special edition New Hope. After watching the prequel trilogy last week I've come to the conclusion that Attack Of The Clones just needs to be *said in Doc Emmett Brown's voice* erased...from existence. Seriously, how can you watch the scenes in the middle of the movie with Obi scoping out the water planet with those tall aliens talking about 'Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas' without picking up your DVD player and beating a small child to death with it? And don't get me started on the 'we could keep it a secret, we would be living a lie' crap in the 'scenes' between Anakin and Padme (Lucas wouldn't have been given another job, EVER, after those scenes if he wasn't self-financing his own fucked up mess. Why why WHY couldn't he have let someone else direct Clones and Sith??) At least Episode 1 resembles a Star Wars movie, if one that's on acid.

I agree with you. TPM was the only one that sort of still resembled the OT in texture, and the Podrace - apart from the Anakin and the alien competitors and commentators - is more thrilling to me now than any of the space battles from the OT. And, while I wholeheartedly support your assessment of the QG/OW/Maul fight at the end, my favorite fight in the entire franchise will always be the skirmish between Qui-Gon and Maul on Tattooine. It lasts maybe three seconds, but it's fast and ferocious and is the closest Lucas ever came to making a samurai sword battle in his samurai-inspired movies. And though we all know Lucas didn't intend it that way, it harkened back to Han blasting Greedo in the Cantina. That's how badass motherfuckers ought to roll. I can't believe he continued on to make such uninspired fights in the subsequent prequels, ESPECIALLY the Anakin/Obi-Wan fight.

GREAT storyline. It shows how a democratic republic can voluntarily choose tyranny. It shows how the jedi order lost their way and became too detached. It showed how someone as innocent as Annikan can turn to the dark side. The elements are there for a great trilogy of movies. Unfortunately, George Lucas wrote the screenplays so that extra polish and depth that Lawrence Kasdan brought to Empire and Jedi were missing. Still, nothing touches Darth Maul.
The problem with the prequals
by pjdon
Jun 26th, 2007

was that they where different genres of film than the original trilogy.

The OT was a space western about a farmboy and a pirate on an adventure.

The PT where decade spanning sci-fi operas.

You could replace the space setting of the OT and still have the same film becasue it is not about sci-fi stuff it is about relateable people on an adventure.

You couldn't replace the setting of the PT becasue they are not adventure movies that happen to be set in a sci-fi fantasy world, they are movies about that sci-fi fantasy world.

The PT are films about a place and it's history wheras the OT are an adventure set incidently within that world.

It is obvious that Lucas did not want them to be simlar to the OT otherwize he would have set the time-line to within a year or so rather than spreading a number of characters stories out over 2 decades.

I "acquired" a copy of Jeb Stuart's Indy 4 draft from 1995. Jeb Stuart was no stranger to action movies. He wrote the screenplay for one of the greatest (the original Die Hard!!! He is also the screenwriter for the upcoming John Rambo!) This looks like a scene from that legendary Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men from Mars screenplay. In it, Indy infiltrates a military base where a crashed UFO is being kept in secret. Other similarities to what is known about the current Indy 4 that is filming: Early in the script there is a car chase at Princeton. (Indy is getting married and the bride to be is kidnapped on wedding day that leads to above chase). Turns out the one he loves is actually a military spy and is wanted by the Russians! The Russians are the bad guys, there are alien artifacts with writings similar to our own ancient civilizations, etc. I must say, I am the biggest Indy fan in the world. Raiders is my favorite movie of all time!! But if they are making this turd, I will be completely dissapointed!

of alien artifact (without actually having aliens) would give the film a fresh feel. It would also be suitable for the 50's setting.

quite simple, the mcguffin should remian a mcguffin and the focus of the film should be on the adventure itself.

If they get the adventure elements and the character right the plot could be about him finding a magic dildo and the film will still be good.

bring on the 50s alien artifacts- I can see it now indy finds megatron buried in the ice and megatron is the originator of all earth technology. If they kept doin godstuff- what are you gonna have? the shroud of turin-some dead sea scrolls- there's no other way to go but aliens, dinosaurs and maybe atlantis. These are cliffhanger serials- bring on the aliens. I want a classic 50s saucer jammed in a crate next to the ark. Indy needs to kick a grey's ass with brocolli-crunch punches.

Unfortunately, aliens and flying saucers played a huge role in the finale, with spider-like aliens actually trying to communicate with Indy and the heroine (Elaine). The artifact ends up being the fuel supply for their saucers and harnesses huge amounts of power, which apparently caused the destruction of some of our ancient civilizations. You can read a better synopsis of the draft here: http://www.indyfan.com/article s/saucer.html I am not against keeping some of the action scenes from the script, but the stroy was pretty bad. I would really like to see some of the "other" numerous drafts written into new Indy novels or something. The Frank Darabont script, the one from David koepp, M. Night., etc. It was widely reported that Spielberg really liked the Darabont script. He told Frank he "really nailed it" and it was the best script since Raiders. But Lucas didn't like it. He wanted to keep the original "macguffin" of the alien artifact. Apparently Darabont's script was a completely new story without that element.

of scripts from Dharabont, Koepp and M.Night plus the final say from Speilberg and Lucas I think we are going to get a pretty perfect film.

Although maybe a case of too many cooks and too much hype might have clouded their visions.

They probably didn't need to put too much thought into the mcguffin for the other 3 films.

indy films comes from the style of adventure and characters, if the film is set in the 50's and the enemy is new and the mcguffin is of a different backgroungd then it can still have the same 'feel'.

You could have another religious artifact and set it back in the 20's or 30's and it could still not 'feel' like Indy.

For this to be like the starwars PT it would have to be set over 30 years and be about a bunch of random characters and more about Nazi history than adventure.

As long as it is about Indy looking for something and people getting in his way then it will 'feel' like Indy.

I can't wait for that classic Indy adventure except with a newish setting.

I like the idea that the

alien artifact in this film is connected to the ark. Maybe the alien artifact needs the ark to operate or something.

Also regularfacetoht surely the Temple of Dooms mcguffin wasn't religious, it was just a random stone that seemed to have been come up with by Lucas and co in the space of 5 mins.

None of the Indy films have been about the Mcguffins in any way. They are about the people trying to get the mcguffins.

And Coppola hasn't made a good film in about 25 years. Orson Wells made complete garbage late in his career as well. I am a big Spielberg fan, but he has made a COMPLETE good films since Saving Private Ryan. War of the Worlds, great first hour, than pffffst! Catch Me If Can was ok, but that was about it. I miss the films that he made the whole rock the whole summer and be all every one talked about. The Terminal is that film.

want to know if their new mcguffin is a good choice they should ask themselves 'could we change it to another mcguffin altogether and still keep 95% of the scrip the same?'

This could have been done with the other films easily. If the mcguffin is too detailed, complex and too tied into the plot of the film then it is in danger of being a movie about the mcguffin istead of Indys adventure to find it.

hasn't made a 'classic' big event movie in the last few years. But he did say back in 99 or something that he just wanted to have 'fun' from now on. Not get too bogged down by making each of his films the 'next big thing'.

For a director to take it easy and make AI, Minortiy Report, Catch me if you Can, The Terminal, War of the Worlds and Munich in 7 years is pretty amazing.

All of these films could be put alongside Empire of the Sun, Color Purple etc as Speilberg making smaller projects.

To have these films, films that most directors would call their big films, as his 'filler' films says alot about him.

Most directors talk for years about making a film then spend a couple of years making it. Speilberg announced, prepared and shot War of the Worlds in less than a year. And anyone who complains about the films ending should remember that that is the original ending of WOTW, he did the best that could be done with it.

is saying that he is not pushing boundries anymore. Well I can't think of any film i'd seen that was like Minority Report or WOTW or Munich.

True they didn't grab the publics imagination but you can't expect everthing he does to be groundbreaking to that extent.

Think of any great artist in any art form.

The greats normally innovate at one point, usually eary on in their career. They make one piece of art that changes the medium forever.

Very few repeat this feat. Coppola made the Godfather, Scorsesse made Taxi Driver and then they made films that whilst where good didn't change cinema again.

Speilberg changed cinema as we know it with Jaws, then ET, then Indy, then Jurrasic Park, then Saving Private Ryan, then Schindlers List.

It is like he got a time machiene and went back and made all the landmark films.

To expect him to change cinema yet again is unrealistic. I'm haooy with him just taking it easy and making one brilliant film a year for the next decade or so.

If any new director made AI, Minortiy Report, Catch me if you Can, The Terminal, War of the Worlds and Munich in 7 years we would all be like 'wow, that's amazing they are all really good films and all so different, how did he make them all so fast?'

But when it is Speilberg, a 61 year old man does it at the tail end of a 30+ year career we go 'oh, he's slipping a bit'.

the new TF film but not the elemnts which are used to contemporize it.

People seem to think that the robots should come to earth and disguise themselves as cars from the 80's. If you go by that rational then in the G1 series they would have come down to earth and disguised themselves as cars from the 50's.

When they announced the re-make of Escape from New York people complained that the would make everything contemporary and that would go against what made the original so cool.

They seemed to forget that in the 80's dressing up Kurt Russel in a leather waste coat and mullett was the most 'hip' and 'contemporary' choice at the time.

People need to let films embrace the state of society in the time in which they are made. Just because some of us think that music/style/cars etc where better in the movies of the past should remember that you would have had exactly the same opinion of trends 20 years ago.

If TF was never made in the 80's and they made it today then Optimus would probably be pimped, Bumblebee would be a camero etc.

Indy Day, New Haven and Marcus Brody is Back?
by MitchMan710
Jun 26th, 2007
10:44:07 PM
Indiana Jones Day in New Haven, CT – June 26, 2007 and what happened to Marcus Brody The excitement was building, dozens of tractor trailer trucks bearing the name Paramount Pictures, New Haven, CT lined the streets of New Haven, signs and pamphlets from Genre Productions on every lamp post telling about an upcoming chase scene and do not leave bicycles unattended this Thursday, Friday and Saturday as they will be removed, carpenters and painters are working overtime, lamp posts and fire hydrants being repainted, shop windows taking a trip back in time, why? Because Indian Jones is coming to New Haven! But before that … it’s Indiana Jones Day in the Elm City and tones of fans, and city residents turned out to take part in the fun all compliments of the New Haven Cultural Events Committee and a little company called, Lucasfilm! For the kids it there were face painters, sidewalk drawings, balloon animals, carousel rides, moon bounces, rock climbing walls, and more – all free! And for the adults, food and drink specials, music, entertainment, and contests from the “We Named the Dog, Indiana” (which we won – as that IS my dog’s name – for real) and everywhere you heard John Williams “Raiders” theme echoing all around. We were entertained by the bull-whipping, fire eating and aerial acrobatics of the Aerial Angels! The local symphonies had a salute to John Williams and played music from the Indy trilogy – and it was capped by what else – a free outdoor showing of “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. The crowd gathered applauded, after Mayor of New Haven, John DeStefano thanked everyone for coming to New Haven and then the movie started - as the credits appeared, (it was on the screen backwards – but fixed in seconds) and REALLY wild as Indiana Jones entered the screen, after whipping the gun from his turncoat guide. Indian Jones was back in action once again and the crowd loved it! Across the streets at the offices at Genre Productions, the lights were on and the door open as staff members busily prepared for the upcoming shoot. I met tons of fans including the fellow who was first in line at the casting call, who was also not picked, but we had a great time and promised to meet up on Thursday and watch the chase scene down College and Chapel Street! The new “old” buildings and what really happened to Marcus Brody! I added new photos of the store fronts on myspace.com/mitchellhallock – (and also check the local newspaper site newhavenregiter.com and video from local New Haven channel 8 that will have features on Wednesday and all during shooting– check out WTNH.com’s website and do a search for Indiana Jones.) Adding to the Woolworths, newsstand, and men’s clothing store was now a pawn shop (that had a tenor sax in the window – maybe Indy sold his old music instrument to buy a new fedora – fans of the Young Indy Chronicles, may remember last time Harrison Ford played Indy in 1993 – he played one), a bridal/groom shop, a bakery, and more – but the best is Brody’s Barber Shop – is that a nod to the dearly missed friend, Marcus Brody (played by the late, great Denholm Elliot or Sheriff Brody from Jaws). It was nice to see it – maybe Marcus gave up the museum and started cutting hair! I spoke with a fellow painting the lamp posts with grey wall paper paste – (it looks clean on film and washes away with plain water). He pointed out all the parking meters were down, and hydrants painted grey and black – the Yale doors were being finished before they are wrecked by a truck, too. More construction is going on all night with doors open to old buildings filled with carpenters and craftsman. Filming on York Street tonight We were excited to see a sign on a Yale building and a production assistants asking folks to be quiet – it was a film – but we were told it was a Leonardo DeCaprio film shooting and not Indy IV – but they did a chase scene last night according to my “inside” friends. More to come Check out the sites and scenes for the great night in New Haven on myspace.com/mitchellhallock and look for more reports this week as me and my kids go down and watch the action! That’s all for now --

about SW. If you see the wohole story that George Lucas has woven, you'll see how meaningful and deep the prequels are. fact that the prequals are a different genre than the originals.

I agree they are deep and epic if you look into them but I was a fan of the adventure films that where the original trilogy and not the type of films the prequals where.

I was never really a sci-fi person which is why i loved the Original trilogy. The prequals are completely sci-fi orientated so that kind of put me off.

They do add depth to the originals but do you really need all that background? I enjoyed the originals for 20 years without knowing the entire life story of Anakin.

but i just hink he was the least of the prequals issues.

I think if he had of remained a consistant character throughout the whole thing he could have grown on me.

Actually that is another reason why the prequals don't work, because they are so spread out. We have Qui Gon, Obi One, Anakin and Jar Jar as the main characters in 1, Anakin (but with a different actor) and Padmne with Obi on the side lines in 2 and no real central hero at all in 3.

If George had set the whole prequal story within the space of a year or two just before Anakin becomes Vader we could have had one group of characters to follow and grow to love.

Getting rid of Jar Jar because fans didn't like him is as big a mistake as anything else.

But anyway what I meant is that Jar Jar at least represented a bit of a risk and carefree attitude that was abundant in the OT. The rest of the PT was just too souless and depressing.

I'm not really in defense of the changes made, and i do sympathize with the TF fans, i however can't wait to see some Bay fun as I never read the comics, i only really watched the cartoons and after re-watching the movie recently have decided that any real characterization or depth must be solely in the comics.

Anyway, I was kind of just trying to say that people jump on design changes even when they make sense. People jumped on Spideys organic web shooters even though it was an obvious choice that took away nothing from the character. Any sign of Indy doing something that is more consistant with the 50's than the 20's will be jumped on also.

midichlorians - represents
by pjdon

another mayjor aspect of why the PT went agaisnt the OT.

The whole point of the SW universe was that it felt real and this included people living in it not dissussing the universe like they had never been there.

This is usually a big mis-step sci-fi makes (Homer: 'Oh what a bleak future we live in!' Bart: 'Present dad, present'). Lucas always said he didn't want character having to explain stuff, he didn't want boring sci-fi talk. His universe didn't need explaining or disscussing it was like the real world.

Actually stoping the film and having a character go 'Qui Gin, what are midichlorians?' and then have Qui Gon go 'blah blah blah blah blah' just goes 100% against Lucas' mantra for the whole concept of SW.

It's being shot on film. In the video, when Spielberg is lining up a shot on the car hood, the camera is the "Panavision Millenium". The camera car is known as: "The Russian Crane" or "Russian Arm". This crane usually comes with a Arriflex camera attached. At "cinematography.com" in the "in production" section, someone who works at Panavision, reported the film package went out with 8 or 9 cameras. That's enough cameras for the first unit, the second unit and possibly a third.

Kamala and pjdon are wrong to varying degrees

Kamala: you obviously haven't seen F For Fake to say something as baseless as "Orson Wells made complete garbage late in his career as well." (Nice mispelling of his name, btw) At any rate, Welles made some of the greatest films of all time, which is a huge feat considering what little he had to work with. pjdon: Saying Scorsese and Coppola produced significantly lesser works after The Godfather and Taxi Driver is pretty much wrong. The Conversation, The Godfather: Part II, and Apocalypse Now are all masterpieces (though he has, admittedly, fallen by the wayside in the decades since). Scorsese's Raging Bull and GoodFellas are recognized classics and are often considered better than Taxi Driver, and unlike Coppola, Scorsese has continued to make good/great films (in the same way Spielberg has, it's just that Spielberg has the good fortune of making films that are more commercial, so you hear more about his films than Scorsese's). However, pjdon is right on a number of things: Spielberg has not lost his touch. He's made some really wonderful films in recent years (Catch Me If You Can, aside from a semi-lame last shot, is perfection). Spielberg's biggest problem in the last decade or so has been ending his movies; he just doesn't know when to draw the line. And this isn't something terribly recent, it's present as far back as Schindler's List. That movie has one of the most atrocious last 5 mins of any movie I've seen. Up until then, it's so great, so powerful. But instead of ending it as Schindler drives away, he tacks on the pointless scene of the Russian soldier 'liberating' Schindler's Jews and that cringe-inducing shot of Schindler's Jews walking across the horizon. And, to add insult to injury, the fourth-wall-breaking scene of the real-life person being escorted by the actor that played him/her as he/she puts a stone on Schindler's grave. My God. Save that for the DVD or something. Anyway, aside from his problem with ending his flicks (Minority Report is perfection until the last 10 mins when it suddenly feels like the Care-Bears movie with its warm and fuzziness), Spielberg has been stretching out a lot. I honestly think that, at this point, he should stretch out further; what more can he add to his craft in making another Indiana Jones flick? There are many other stories to tell! I want to see his Lincoln flick and Interstellar! Now, on to Indy 4: If it's alien-free and Shia isn't Indy's spawn, I'm willing to give this a chance (though Shia's presence alone is pretty damn upsetting).

by superninja

since the OT love triangle is not real, for the most part. The Aruthurian love triangle to show the Golden Age had truly ended. It would give Anakin a legitimate reason to hate Obi-Wan and still make his choice inexecusable. It would make Obi-Wan and Padme somewhat guilty but sympathetic still. Tragic. It would sufficiently explain Obi-Wan's attachment to Luke and his wistful feelings (which have absolutely no connection to the PT as is).

"You betrayed me over a woman. A woman!" Isn't there a movie with a line like that in it? Anyway, I wanted to see an exchange like that in the PT.

godfather 2 or apocolypse now with coppola or raging bull and goodfellas with scorsese. Count all them films as their early careers e=ven though goodfellas was int he 90s i suppose.

But after scorsesse had started re-hashing his own style (Casino, Gangs, The Departed) the Berg was still innovating. In the 90s he changed the world of special effects in JP, showed us all for the first time what WW2 was actually like in Ryan and showed the realities of the holocaust for the first time in List.

If you look at other members of the 70's directors brat pack then they all seem to be obbsessed with making 'epic' style swords and sandle films, gangster eoics or biopics.

Why can't Scorssese make a small film about a character like Taxi Driver, why does each of his films now have to have 'oscar fodder' stamped all over it?

Even the Departed he changed from the character based drama which was Infernal Affairs into a sprawling gangster film which skipped forwards 3 months ever 5 minutes leaving us feeling slightly cold towards the characters

But you guys are right, having one actor play anakin through all 3 films and having them be mainly about him and obi ones relationship would have worked much better. I just never felt any connection between them as i never felt any connection between anakin and padmne.

But i don't think love triangle, i think that it should be that anakin falls in love with Padmne and Obi dissaproves and tells the council and that is what causes the rift.
