Remember, Damon Lindelof is going to do The Dark Tower with Abrams so don't expect it to start 'till 2010 or something. Lindelof is an excellent choice for this series, I hope that it works out and he pens a great flick. I can take or leave Abrams's directing.

Yes, of course they do. Just cuz he last 2 films kinda sucked doesn't change the fact that there's MILLIONS of star trek fans.

what are the odd that the whole 'cloverfield' thing is just a code for the dark tower pic? maybe they fabricated the whole shebang to throw everybody (including and especially aicn, dark horizons, chud, et al) off the real trail? it's been done before...
That would suck though, because Cloverfield sounds cool

If i were adapting a well-known Stephen King SF/fantasy series, i'd want to build as much interest as possible. That was part of what made the phony blog so implausible: why would JJ Abrams & co start filming in secret? Also, given that there's seven DT books, it would be an enormous enterprise, equivalent in scale to the Star Wars films. Even if they compress the books to a mere trilogy of films, you're still looking at a major film franchise. It's hardly gonna be filmed on the QT.

Each season is a book on HBO or something. That's the only way a story that epic and long could be done justice.
The Dark Tower series is IMPOSSIBLE to film...
by Osmosis Jones

...if only for the fact that Jake is 12 years old, so all of his scenes would have to be shot in a *very* compacted time frame, or else you'd have that "Walt on Lost" scenario where a kid grows about five inches within a narrative span of only a few months.

the first few books are good but the middle to end of the series is god awful and unreadable. not to mention none of the conflict pays off in any meaningful way with the various major characters. you can't have almost half the series, least of all the back half, suck this badly and still call it a classic.

Because seriously, Spike would have been swell. I'm all for giant monster movies though. As for the Dark Tower, until I hear that it's all being done at the same time with at least a $500 million budget I'm not even going to remotely get my hopes up.

CLOVERFIELD & Abrams

My interest is suddenly peaked on this one. It sounds great. What will really make this film is the home video point-of-view, if they can pull it off believably. JJ Abrams is becoming a more intriguing director with each new project. Also, looking forward to his take on STAR TREK.

He did write that Superman script a couple of years ago where Jimmy Olsen was gay and Lex Luthor could fly because he was in the x-files and an alien at the same time, and superman's costume lived in a bottle and kung fu kicked his cousin who also came from Krypton that hadn't blown up.

assuming it was reported accurately, the JJ Abrams Superman script was stupid. But everything else JJ Abrams has done has been golden: Lost, the first two seasons of Alias, and the best Mission Impossible film to date. So i'm more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on anything he's done with the Dark Tower. Plus since i'm only up to book 3, and i understand that the series gets worse later on, Abrams, Lindelhof and Cuse are the kinda folk i'd trust to redeem it.
What about the Talisman??
by Vespalad
Jun 21st, 2007
07:16:41 PM
How come there hasn't been ANY Talisman news since the big announcement a few months back? Is the thing still getting made? If so how come they have not released a single bit of information about it? As for Dark Tower and Abrams, cant someone from AICN arrange an interview and get some questions answered for us? (For example, movie or TV series, live action, CG, or animated, how to deal with Jake's age, when they might start production, etc.)
Just no more Mick Garris for The Talisman
by SoylentMean

07:42:18 PM
I loved what he did with The Stand, although I might not like it as much if my initial viewing was now. The Shining remake had one of the most annoying child actors ever. Desperation was just bloody terrible. So if they do The Talisman I hope they lean toward Craig Baxley. That's the guy who directed Storm of the Century.

by kevred
Jun 25th, 2007
02:09:43 PM
...that is, a working title designed to throw people off the scent. Otherwise, it does seem like a bizarre title for a giant-monster movie set in NYC.

This could be terrifying if it's done well, and grating if it's done wrong. "My god! Look what's happening! It's amazing! And, just off camera!"

Sometimes I feel like special effects have plateaued a little bit; movies have been so fascinated with being able to depict something that they've forgotten to make us care. (One reason LOTR and Harry Potter have been so successful--we already cared.) This kind of curveball could use the visual technology in a way that brings the Speilbergian magic back to the moviegoing experience.

If it's done right.

"cloverfield" trailer

I saw Transformers tonight, (amazing btw), and the lone trailer attached was labeled "Cloverfield" but the preview doesn't give the name. it says producer j.j. abrams and has the bad robot logo but no title. the preview is a handheld camera shooting a high school/college party when there is a loud noise and the earth shakes. flaming chunks fly through the night skies as the streets fill with onlookers. then if fades out. no title. no release date. looks intriguing, tho.
It does give a release date

I saw this trailer before an advanced screening of Transformers (which blew) and it said either 1-18-08 or 7-18-08. Pretty sure it was 1-18-08. This trailer was better than all of Transformers and, yeah, it's one of those trailers that, if the movie is successful, no one will forget, like seeing the White House blow up in the Independence Day trailer. My curiosity is peaked.

New Slusho movie clue
by cmballard

06:52:27 PM
A new clue has been found and was first reported at www.thesavagecircle.com. One of the pictures showing the infamous "Rob", may contain another clue besides the "Slusho" t-shirt advertisment. By zooming in on the words "We'll Miss" you can see that the words are actually made up of pictures glued together to form the words. Could one of these pictures contain a clue? I can't find a better resolution picture than the one I have but you can clearly see faces in the pictures. If anyone has a digital picture of this or maybe the video itself is a better resolution check it out!
