Vince Vaughn's jackoff scene in the new version of Psycho. But I hope what was said above is correct, that Michael is not the rapist. Cuz that would be really gay. Everything else sounds okay. Does he really talk through the mask? I so don't want that. But if they spent a lot more time on the childhood angle, then yeah the movie should be longer to give Laurie some exposition. And it is very true that brutality does not equal suspense or horror, so I hope Zombie at least strikes a balance. In today's world, we see so much brutality in real life that there's not much we'll get squeamish about. Far better do go the Carpenter route and make some genuine suspense.

If Zombie was going to change the overall feel to the film (ie. the suspense) why didn't he just do an original film? My guess is the studio wants to give Zombie a shot at something with a bigger budget, so they gave him a franchise re-boot to see if he can rake in the box office, therefore providing a legitimate, business-sense oriented reason to provide him with a bigger budget. I'm a big fan of everything Zombie's done so far, and I know I'll be seeing this. Still, one has to wonder...

I think House of 1,000 Corpses did reasonably well upon its release in theaters and pretty damn good on DVD. Not so sure about Devil's Rejects (I think that officially tanked at the box office). It was just a hypothesis. My point is the guy obviously has a fucked up head full of wonderful, original ideas and the studio probably heard his pitch for his next movie and said "That's great Rob, but let's call it Halloween and see what happens".

Most fail miserably. JC's The Thing is great, though, whereas a remake of The Fog I could not sit through 5 minutes, and the Chainsaw remake, where it was not terrible, they did drop the ball on it overall. The original Halloween is one of my all-time favorites, without question, only behind Jaws. I wasn't thrilled with it being remade, but I'm happy with the different angle on the whole thing. We already saw Halloween, now it's time for something new if it has to be done. Oh, and speaking of Jaws, just remember that Spielberg's version deviated heavily from the book. I smell another remake.......

Of course that movie wouldn't have been nearly as good as it is without the awesome performance of Donald Pleasance as Dr. Loomis. I'm interested to see McDowell's take on the character, but for me Pleasance IS Dr. Loomis.

The reviewer claims that Michael Myers is the only horror movie villain that would paralyze him with fear. Hey, maybe I'm a huge pussy...but Freddy was a fucking walking burn victim with knives that came out of his fucking fingers. I can punch a dude in a white mask. A guy with hand-mounted cutlery that can infiltrate my dreams? Not only would I be paralyzed with fear, but there would be an automatic, unconscious bowel release unlike anything the world has ever seen. As for the movie...I don't know, I'm on the fence about this one. I like the idea of following a maniac from his early years, especially if those early years are THAT fucked up, but I don't like it being Michael Myers. I won't write this off, but I always thought that the most horrifying aspect of the original franchise was wondering just what the hell propelled this guy to be such a carnivorous dick.

Actually, that's my sole interest in regard to this remake. Zombie is a hack (compared to Eli Roth, however, he's Orson Welles). Tranforming the Michael Myers character from an enigma to a sadist is the formulaic tract of all derivative horror movies (perhaps prompted by the misguided obsession for Zombie to throw his wife a role). Brutality, rape and cliched flashbacks are Zombie's embellishments over the original? Pass. Incidentally, in reply to one of the above inquiries, Zombie has not yet made a profitable movie (theatrical films tanked, perhaps DVD sales recouped the investments).
