Cruise is putting on the best performance of his career right now with Beard. He should get a fucking Oscar for that. Oh wait...no one's buying it. And it's nice to see Sony rape the corpses of Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, and D.W. Griffith (who are no doubt turning over in their graves) by handing over United Artists to an egomaniacal, vain, pompous jackass who's so deluded he can't even wake up and smell the coffee about his own personal demons or that his "religion" is a cult. Money talks and bullshit walks and the hack known as Tom Cruise is the biggest piece of bullshit in Hollywood today.

I don't really remember Way Of The Gun, I think it got lost in that whole wave of post-Pulp Fiction quarky crime tales. I remember Ryan Phillipe talking some funny sass and decking a chick in the first scene so it was probably a pretty good flick.

This McQuarrie guy might be another one of these Brian Helgeland types who just never get the full confidence of the studios and so their projects get pulled out from under them if they try writing AND directing themselves. After seeing the director's cut of Payback, I feel sorry for these guys.

And yeah, more cowboy movies are needed. There was an awesome resurgence of westerns in the early 1990s with Tombstone, Unforgiven, and The Quick and the Dead. I'd love to see it come back again. I'd love to see Daniel Day Lewis in a western.

Sorry man but the film project that SteffanLongdon is thinking about was to be based on the true story of the British magician Jasper Maskelyn. He was employed by the British Army to use his skills to fool the Germans. In one famous stunt, he tricked the Germans into bombing the a patch of desert instead of Alexandria harbour by using false lights and misdirection. Seems the project never got of the ground.

Singer's idea for SR2.........
by liljuniorbrown
Jun 19th, 2007
10:40:50 AM
Say's it's time to "Take Supe's into alien territory" and he definitely wants to "Go all Wrath of Khan" with the sequel. As a huge Superman fan I have to address Van Buren's comments. Superman can be protrayed as cool easily. Superman is cool. Bottom line. I see where your coming from but you have to think of it as a whole epic idea . Kal-El is an alien, he is the last son of Krypton, the heir and would be royalty of an extinct race. On Earth is is almost invincible but most of villans after him are not of Earth. I would love to see Bryan Singer's vision realized on the big screen for both X-Men and Superman. I think he is a friend to us comic geeks and if he did nothing else I thank him for making great films like Usual Suspects, the flawed but well meant and greatly acted Superman Returns,X-Men and X-men United.
Way of the Gun/Zombie Movie
by liljuniorbrown
Jun 19th, 2007
10:56:39 AM
Awesome movie. He should direct Punisher 2 with Ryan Phillipe as Jigsaw. I agree that we need more Westerns. If any producers are interested I wrote western treatment called Ghost Town. In the story a Native American uses black magic and mystisim to bring his dead girlfriend back to life. Unfortunately she has a taste for brains and her bite turns her victims into a zombie just like her. The growing zombie threat makes it's way towards a Boom town where a hard nosed sherriff has to turn to a local gun fighter and outlaws for help before it spreads. I don't want to just throw the two genre's together, but to use all the elements of the classic western and old west themes and show how those people (both the God fearing and the outlaw) would handle a world where there friends and family were turning into cannibal monsters. It probably wouldn't work but who knows right?

I have yet to see anything that makes Bryan Singer stand out as a director. Usual Suspects acclaim was due to its screenplay. X-Men 1 & 2 were fun only because it was the X-Men on screen. Superman Returns - I don't even want to go there. Like Kevin Smith, Singer is just lucky. He is not a great director.

Singer's currently working on VALKYRIE & THE MAN OF STEEL concurrently. Once he finishes the former near the end of this year, he's going 100% into the SUPERMAN sequel. Filming is supposed to commence around March/April 2008 with a Summer 2009 release. THE MAYOR OF CASTRO STREET may never get made considering Gus Van Sant's revial HARVEY MILK film will probably get rolling first. While Singer is juggling VALKYRIE & THE MAN OF STEEL before he can get around to doing THE MAYOR OF CASTRO STREET.

Harry, just in case you didn't know - this movie is based on REAL events. In REAL life. Outside your home, you know? Everybody who knows the events on July 20th, 1944 can see one thing pretty clear - this is the easiest job in the universe for a screenwriter! It really happened! And it really happened in the big way! As a German, I have seen around 1 gazillon WW2 movies dealing with our past and lots of (German) movies about THIS date. STAUFFENBERG, for example (starring Sebastian Koch), pretty good film. Or DIE STUNDE DER OFFIZIERE (the hour of the officers), half documentary/half movie - VERY good film! Seriously and pathetically, my first thought when I read the headline was that they were scraping the very bottom of the Marvel barrel and making bringing "Val" to life. Hell, if they did Ghost Rider, why not? If that's the case, then they need to do that whacked out storyline with Scorpio and Nighthawk. It sounds like the same plot and all. I can't say Tom Cruise sounds like a good fit, but then I'm basing that on the premise and not on the actual character he's playing. But there have to be better actors for that part. Jude Law or Ewan McGregor come to mind. I guess there's no getting Ralph Fiennes to play another Nazi though.

Glengarry Glen Ross is indeed one of my favorite movies. Of. All. Time.

Tour-De-Force of a film.

I do get what your saying about this project and the fact that it could be self-indulgent and bloated but have faith dear friend for my fellow Brits in this cast know how to... shall we say; 'Bring it'. They may not always be cast as leads but they certainly provide stellar support. There are a pick of a fine bunch.

I am very happy to see how this is shaping up and deeply interested to see how Mr Cruise handles this kind of character/material.

I think he is a good actor (though I hate his early 'smarmy' work) I for one have not written him off... yet!

Hail the glorious Brits and the mysterious scientific one!

But from the get-go, he's problematic in a period film. He has too many qualities of a "modern" actor to blend with a period cast and setting. BUT I have been wrong many times about many things, and I do think Singer has talent and maybe even feels a little hungry to prove himself following his last film. We might see something daring and tight from him, and the same can be said for Cruise. He does have acting chops. It's just that he is not often called upon to display them.

08:12:52 AM
I agree with others who've written this sounds like a good project, but that Cruise playing a German is nettling. He doesn't look, sound (even with a well-practiced accent), or imply German-ness at all. Of all the characters Cruise could play with some degree of crafted intensity, a Nazi general is NOT one of them. Even if he comes across as somewhat believable, I'm still going to be thinking to myself, "I wonder how long he had to work on that accent," not "Damn, that general is creepy!"

Cruise has done some great work in his career, but I think casting him in "Valkyrie" is a huge mistake. Huge.

Izzard playing Hitler (if that's who he's playing) works pretty well, though. He's really surprised me with his quality work in "The Riches."

Bryan Singer I've liked in the past, and probably will in the future. But "Superman Lifts Things" was probably the worst superhero movie I've ever seen. I was stunned by the horrible casting and creative choices, one after another after another throughout the film, so Singer will have to work extra hard to pull me into the theater for "Valkrie." Cruise as a German already sounds suspiciously Superman Lifts Things-esque, though. We'll see.
