Let's face it Nolan is a major player in the Batman franchise but he's a tiny cog compared to the corporation! Warner Brothers are huge and Warner Brothers know that merchandising is immensely important to the success of a movie. I just hope that we are not on the first slippery slopes to Batman having different costumes and vehicles purely for toy sales! So this vehicle better not just be like the Bat sub from Batman Forever.

Looks like a evil little brother to the batmobile. I liked that the Batmobile was "the tumbler" but the bat pod?? ouch...somehow I don't think that's gonna last. At least I hope not. Once this thing is seen in motion, and once we see the 'need' for it...we shall be awe struck! Just like all the naysayers were when we fisrt saw the tumbler! Looks like they are hitting the right notes on this sequel though! He has bat-gadgets!!

Looks pretty BA if you ask me. I think the best part about it is that you steer with the arm sleeves. But I am a little weary about the machine guns attached. Unless, of course, there is a specific purpose for them (besides, you know, killing people) Can't have that.

Jun 18th, 2007
12:07:02 PM
like everything i've seen both in the first movie and the early stuff for the sequel there seems to be a sense of utilitarianism which is appreciate. nothing in these movies is designed to look good or slick or cool. Form follows function. If there really was a guy running around a big city in a bat suit fighting crime he'd have an urban tank and a motorcycle with giant wheels to provide more balance.

I actually dug the Tumbler, and think this looks kind of cool. But it's impractical. Those guns sticking way out the front are going to get all bent the hell up anytime he rearends a car at a red light, and busting through walls is way out of the quetsion. I won't even mention what would happen should his cape get caught in the open wheel on the back. Put a rear fender on that thing, shorten the guns and put a fender that wraps around the front wheel to ram through shit, and you've got a badass looking machine that is actually usable.

There was a blurb associated with this pic (it was on the same link that had the Maggie Gyllenhaal picture) that explained how he steers it (face down, with your shoulders locking into the side shields that allow you to steer it by just turning your body the way you want to go) and that sounds pretty cool to me.

Not too crazy about the design, but I definitely see where Nolan is coming from. It's following the same design as the batmobile, and seems to fit in with something Fox would come up with.

People, don't be stupid, this is not a real batman vehicle, the Tumbler is going to be destroyed in the movie and this "bike" is just Batman escaping from the tumbler from within, even the Tires are the same as the tumbler, remember this, this is an escape vehicle, that's why it's called POD and that's why he requires it, he need it to escape, it is his escape pod with wheels...

Tumbler vs. Bat "Pod"...
by TheRealSeveren

Surely, someone on here owns an automobile AND a motorcycle, right? So, if you do, maybe a billionaire crime-fighter would too so the arguments over practicality are null and void. Besides, the Tumbler probably uses up alot of gas. My guess is the "Pod" is a hybrid... Oh, and when you guys see a breaking story on here, take a deep breath and a step back and make sure what you're posting is REALLY your opinion and not just negativity for the sake of negativity...the online community thanks you.

I can't believe, that with one picture, they can nearly dash any hopes that The Dark Knight would not end up a giant toy commercial. I wonder if the toy will come with a Bat Pod Launcher that you wind up like those old Evel Knievel toys. I can't wait for a new generation bloody their knuckles as thier hand slips and smacks into the concrete. Heck, maybe it will even shoot sparks.

The escape pod function works best. I just can't see Batman cruising around the city in that pod thing. I see it as a quick escape when Joker blows up the tumbler. Batman would use this pod for a short time then we never see it the rest of the movie. Hopefully.

I wasn't here for the backlash from the tumbler, but I think it looks good. I wouldnt be surprised if it was similar to what some dude saying earlier about it being an escape pod from the tumbler. We saw the Tumbler shooting rockets in BB so the guns in front could very well serve the same purpose. Or it could shoot rubber bullets. Honest.

Oh and anyone who compares any of this stuff to either Burton or Schumacher instantly loses all credibility. Morons.

We're probably gonna see this thing for 1 minute and a half, at some point in a 2hour movie, when Batty's tumbler gets crushed and he runs for cover in this escape pod. And there probably will be fire, debris, and a strategically burt/damaged bat-suit ...to please the fanboys with THE RETURN OF THE MIGHTY BATNIPPLES.

Guys, I wouldn't fret much, the design of this makes me think that it will simply be a way to escape the batmobile, not to mention the name is the bat POD, like escape POD. Just look at the wheel design, and last to mention is how in batman begins, when his seat transforms into a bike position when he's racing away from the po-po.

12:52:09 PM
...I just hope those machine guns shoot rubber bullets. And I agree with everyone who says it's an escape "pod" for when something happens to the tumbler. He already basically drove this thing in the first movie when he was escaping the cops on the roof of the parking garage. This time, he's just going to drive it right out of the front as the tumbler gets blown up or something. Not entirely sure why the military would've built that into an experimental piece of bridge-building equipment, though. However, I'm willing to suspend a bit of disbelief.

Love the low to the ground design of the Pod. It reminds me of those amazing, high-tech bikes from Otomo's AKIRA, though if fits Batman's aesthetic. This will look great on film. Meredith Viera straddling the thing doesn't really do it justice. Batman will look AWSOME on it.

... the "pod" could look very, very cool. Actually, imagine the freeway scene from Maxtrix Reloaded, shot at night, shadowy, neon yellow lighting, Batman weaving in and out of traffic, his cape flowing to the edge of the back tire, his (rotatable) mask just above the handbars. I like it. Looks badass, looks tough, looks like it could get him around easier than the Tumbler ever could. But it all depends on how they shoot it ...

The disappointing box-office of "Hostel: Part II" has upset quite a few, most notably its director Eli Roth who says on his blog that it will have an knock-on effect. The most notable one will be a delay in his adaptation of Stephen King's "Cell" - "I am not directing Cell any time soon, and I most likely will take the rest of the year to write my other projects. Which means I wouldn't shoot until the spring and you wouldn't see a film directed by me in the cinemas until at least next fall." He cites the infamous leaked pirate copy of the film as one of the reasons for the damaging box-office, especially internationally. Unlike other movies leaked online and taken with video cameras, "Hostel II" was notably a near DVD-quality unfinished work print. He also adds that the R-rated horror genre is in serious jeopardy after several notable failures this year - "studios feel the public doesn't want them anymore, and so they are only putting PG-13 films into production. The only way to counter this perception is to get out there and support R-rated horror."

The Tumbler didn't get the best reviews when it first debuted and then we saw it in action and it was a totally different thing. I'm willing to wait for how this is used in context of the movie but yeah, it looks like it belongs in a Shrine Circus (are they even around any more?).
CAN'T BE AN ESCAPE POD...

For the sheer fact that they did that already in Batman returns, or was it forever? When he has to drive the batmobile through an alley and it completly tranforms and falls apart around him into some weird escape vehicle with the engine intact...I think it was returns...I think he will "require" it to be able to navigate an area of gotham too congested for the Tumbler...or that the tumbler is too cumbersome...we shall see, it will definately have a function...how awesome was the use of the timbler! And yeah they never did call it the batmobile did they? That's pretty cool. And though batman doesn't use guns, we all know he has used them even in the comics when things got hairy, not to kill but definately for leverage. So take a chill pill, and enjoy this amazing world that Nolan and Co are bringing us!! It't not like they went to the nearest suzuki dealership and asked for their newest model, and all they did was slap a bat symbol on it, next to the suzuki logo right???? Not like a certain Family of heroes did? right?? You want it to go down that road? do ya??

for someone to simply give their opinion of something without just passing it off by saying, "This is fucking stupid, this movie is going to suck balls!"

The end result is the most important thing, and while our initial reaction may be negative, you just have to wait for the end result before you can pass judgment.

What we know and what we can assume. We KNOW that they have assembled an unbelievable cast, and the movie is being directed by a solid director who seems to be taking these movies in a satisfying direction. We can ASSUME that WB wants to make a lucrative movie so it may put some pressure on the movie makers to be a bit more friendly to a wider audience. Based on the considerable success of the last movie more money is going to be sunk into this, and the producers are most likely going to want some "flashiness" to balance the seriousness that the director and writer have brought and will likely bring more of to this sequel. I dont think its fair to slam Nolan for the new Batsuit, or any other design choices. This kind of movie is a huge collaboration, and you better believe there will be a million producers hanging around giving their opinions. In the end I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing (though it can quickly become one, even if WB's track record has been improving). Nolan seems to be getting a lot of things his way (casting, his bro writing, etc) but Katie Holmes being cast reeks of producer involvement as does the tron suit. Ultimately the choices we may not agree with depend on the direction, story, and acting. If they stick those three things then by this time next year we may be calling the things that worried us (Ledger, the tron suit, the Bat-pod, Gylenhaal) bad ass.

For me my biggest fear for the first one was Katie Holmes but even she wasnt all that bad. Her characer serves a purpose, and now that she is being played by the more talented, convincing Maggie Gylenhaal (who actually looks pretty cute in the pics they have posted) I'm thinking both movies are going to play much better together.

Just remember, before you slam the choices made for this movie, there were some iffy choices for the first one that paid off, and on hindsight I think that the biggest problem with the first one was Goyers shaky writing. I think Nolan has enough of a hold on this movie to make good choices, right now, for me at least, is whether John Nolan can deliver a better script then Goyer. If he does then who the hell cares about a Bat-pod?

Harry and/or his minion that keep this site running for us may have a relationship with Roth. Really nothing wrong with that, it's not like AICN is subject to any real ethics in term of who/what they report on. You really need to see Harry post that after seeing Hostel 2 that he feels letdown by Roth and has realized that he's a hack and wants nothing more to do with him? That's not going to happen. And even if Hostel 2 was a good movie, plenty of GREAT movies have failed at the box office. Keep that in mind. I just find Roth's whinig to be funny, and arrogant.

No I don't see it working as an escape pod, and I think that would be a bit daft. But if the Tumbler's going to get blown up, and Bats needs a new ride reasonably quickly (for some specific mission?) then maybe Lucius builds this bike out of the remains of the Tumbler? Yeah I could buy into that.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that everybody here that's ragging on Hostel and its sequel has probably never been subjected to the white-hot floodlights of public opinion. If you had, you'd never talk about Roth the way you are now. The things you're saying smack of jealousy on an astronomical level, and it's tragic that you're all going to expend so much effort into bashing someone's work, rather than doing something constructive. Come on, haters. Bring your own genius to the table, and let the rest of us talk about what an insipid piece of trash it is.

If you don't like Hostel or the way Roth goes about his business, that's your right... but to celebrate the failure of a creative endeavor, especially one in which a lot of hard work and effort was required, is just lame.

I mean, come ON. All you guys do is complain about crappy studio-driven movie after studio-driven movie... but when Tarantino, or Roth, or Zombie, or Kevin Smith, or another independent mind that's doing something different comes along, all you do is bash their work into the stone age. You can't have it both ways. I think there are a lot more people that come to AICN to hate on film than celebrate it these days, and that's fucking tragic.

Too Poddy.

Grant, PLEASE! Are you serious? If Tarantino made a movie about a man with a 36" cock that loved having anal with giraffes, we don't have to like it just because it's "different". Different and "wrong" are 2 different things. Roth's Hostel 2 is wrong. It's gratuitous torture for some sick fuck that's reenacting his hate for high school girls that rejected him. It's unnecessary, infantile and again - wrong. GOOD "R" horror is Carpenter's The Thing or Scott's Alien. Roth's is just plain SHIT.

It's unnecessary, infantile and again - wrong. GOOD "R" horror is Carpenter's The Thing or Scott's Alien. Roth's is just plain SHIT."

Everything you've just said is a judgment call, and I've no interest in letting anybody judge what entertainment is right for me, unless it is myself.

Again, it's all well and good if Roth's brand of entertainment isn't to your taste. I happen to like it just fine, and I don't think it makes me, Roth, or Roth's fans any less human. It sounds as if you all would like him to fail so you can say the market does not and will not support his work... but that's not true. Roth's films, like Tarantino, Rodriguez, and Smith's, were not intended to play in Peoria. They are niche films.

All I'm saying is, can we truly say it's a bad thing when a smaller creator makes good? I think you think the movie industry is much bigger than it really is -- that if only Roth's "influence" was drummed out, we'd be left with bigger and better movies. The sad truth is, we'd probably just end up with more Paul W.S. Anderson films and big-budget, sound-and-fury-signifying-noth ing movie "events", and nobody can ever convince me that is a good thing.

you guys don't like the new suit???
by ckone
Jun 18th, 2007
03:05:02 PM
I don't get it, to me the first suit was THE BIGGEST Problem in BB. It was SOo bulky looking , especially when they had those leaked umages of him crouching and all that rubber was bending into rather weird shapes..this new one, is exactly what I hoped they would do, take the original and streamline it, as well as make it more armor like. He is a human, who jumps off rooftops, gets shot at, and drives at unbelieveable speeds from different types of vehicles...only in comics would he get away with that wearing cloth...AND EVEN in the comics, depending on the writing team and or artist, you sometimes see armor UNDER the cloth suit. You couldn't show the first suit in as bright a light as the new one was shown now. It looked aweful. They hardly even showed the whole suit in any type of light in the whole first movie, unless it was off him, burning, or rainslicked...As far as I'm concerned, this new one is amazing, and functional, why the heck wouldn't he have the talons on his arms be functional?? His suit should be dangerous from ALL angles. If it's okay for him to hurl tiny batarangs into peoples' flesh, then why the hell not have these things be weapons as well?? And as far as the BatCycle, it can't be an escape vehicle, that would be so lame, and lame is the last thing this production is eminating. GO BATMAN GO!!!!

which is why alex trebek is tapping me to host jeopardy when he retires. but i love how smart you are, i mean hey, someone voices their opinon about how shitty a movie is and what is the first thing u say "wah wah have u even seen it??" then from there it goes to the predictable "well u just cant handle it" type of shit. no bitch, i can handle a woman fuckin a horse, its whatever. what i cant handle is a bad bad bad bad bad movie, of which hostel 2 and 1 both were. horrible dialogue, shitty pacing, just REALLY bad b movies with an egotistical director who thinks he is gods gift to movies. there is almost nothin better than watching these self appointed gods of their crafts come tumbling down. it was enjoyable to watch it when it happpened to the R&B singer Sisqo, its enjoyable with Kobe, and its enjoyable here. these guys bring it on themselves. they should try being humble.

Can you remember that scene with the penguin in his trailer. He fucks up Batmans ride and is tearing up the streets. Remember? good right, well remember when Bats finaly gains control and the cops are on his ass? He presses some button to go down that narrow road and the sides come flying off. Well I think thats basicaly going to be the deal with this, but in a more complicated way.....note the GHPD car right behind him in the picture.

from the Joker would be pretty intense. If they give Joker enough menace to shake Bats to the point where he has to run would add a lot of credibility to Jokers formidability as a nemesis. It would be interesting to see Joker killing people just to bait Batman. Have him hunting Batman down instead of Batman hunting him, then at some point (probably the death of Rachel) Bats goes on the offensive and makes some major changes (the suit, new batmobile) and gets a bit closer to the edge. You never really saw Joker shake Bats in the Burton version. It would be interesting to see Batman's confidence shaken, then see him genuinely freaked by this guy, then get pissed and declare war on the Joker.

Everyone will think Batman is killed, but you'll see Batman go in the area of the Tumbler where he fires the missiles and that's where the Pod will shoot out from.” (Remember, BOF was informed and reported this a while back. It was said to be bogus info from another source of ours, but it IS TRUE!) * The Joker is one sadistic bastard -- flat-out evil. There will be NOTHING to like about him. If you were expecting The Joker the be "funny," you were way, way off

Batman never would have been able to make a pose like that in BB, the way he is looking down and to the side.

I thought a lot of the acting i the batsuit came off as slightly wooden in BB just because bale looked so stiff and restricted.

Not 100% about the bike but i felt the same about the tumbler when that was first revealed.

I thought the same thing and it may be true, but I think enough room was left to the imagination to assume that he may have taken Criminology or such in college, and even his time with Ra's was a period of I think 7 years. For the writers it may have left enough wiggle room to flashback to other points in his training. BB really focused on the fact that he had lost his way and found it with the League. Considering he was 29 in the movie and his parents died when he was about 12 that gives quite a bit of time in his life that we didnt see.

In Batman Begins we see a bit of detective work going on, listening into conversations, when he is in his house going over notes and such. The big difference between the comic and this movie is that in the comic Bruce starts off getting ready to take on the underworld and doesnt give up until he has his "moment". BB throws him a curveball and places him at a point where he loses track of his original intent. He thought he wanted revenge at first but it was only until he realized revenge wouldnt satisfy him that the more mature focused idea of justice gave him purpose. A slightly different take, but not enough I think to completely derail the character from its comic origins.

That being said, seeing him develop his detective skills further in TDK, and better scripted fight scenes would be plus. It seems with his new suit he will be MUCH more mobile so here hopin the new Bats will be closer to the one we know and love!

If you look at Begins there is a long list of problems.
by pjdon
Jun 18th, 2007
05:26:57 PM
Bad fight editing, not helped by stiff suit and cowl, cluttered plot, very unfocused when it came to villans, the odd cheesy line, goyers influence in the script, etc.

But it still remains a brilliant film.

Now imagine the fact that Nolan is not shitting his pants this time, he has made 1 Bats film, then the Prestige so him and Bale are much closer now, his brother is writting so the whole thing will be much more controlled by him. The studio wil give him more freedom and money. He has a stronger central villan. He doesn't need an whole hour at the start to set up the film.

I just think that he will be under less pressure and stress and will be able to put across his ideas better this time.

If Batman Begins was brilliant with all it's faults, image how good the Dark Knight will be now Nolan is hitting the ground running.

And I don't think Nolan would just

I totally agree. Begins was great for two things, a great director and a great cast. The basic story was there which was good, but the execution (script-wise) was weak. I read the script before (wish I hadnt) and I didnt like it, but seeing it onscreen completely changed my perspective. THAT speaks volumes about Nolan's ability as a director, and after seeing the shit Goyer puts out, I am happy as a pig in shit that he isnt writing.

From what I read about the story for 2 and 3 I think Goyer had some good ideas, so its cool that he still contributed for them, but HUZZAH! that he ain't writing.

on screen? And I really don't know why people are dissing on the new suit.

Ok the armour is a tad complicated looking but so what, the fact that they have got the head right for the first time in a Batman film means we are actually going to see Batman move like he should, not like someone in a neck brace. Even that shot looks so cool, a stance not dictated by the limitations of the costume.

Saying a Batman film should not be about the realism of the situation, his training or the specifics is plain wrong.

He is not a superhero, he is a normal person who is acting like a superhero and the film should be about how he does that.

he scene is a fundraiser for Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) and it was in the lobby for either a hotel of some sort or of Bruce Wayne's mansion. First part of the night was Eckhart coming in from an elevator and making his entrance. Michael Caine was there and filming his shot for a good three hours. After that was done, then it was Batman's turn. He came in out of a helicopter with a hot model on each side, he truely knows how to make an entrance. But the big news is THE JOKER IS CRASHING THE FUCKING FUNDRAISER. Yessireebob, you read that correctly. He is going to make an entrance (hopefully involving the breaking of a window or two) and 'crash' the party. Seems like Joker has as much of a beef with Dent as he does with our friendly Batman. Joker's issues with Dent are further evidenced in another scene, which Lurker says went a little something like this: Tonight was an outdoor scene with Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent doing a political ad that was to be played on a TV in the background during the movie. Since there would be no audio of it in the movie, he was screwing around and yelling random stuff like he was going to go to Washington D.C. and to bring us Grilled Cheese sandwiches. He was a riot. Then it was back to the condo scene [Ed. note: referenced above]. I. saw. the. JOKER! He comes out of an elevator with 4 or 5 of his masked minions, two with actualy plastic masks and guns, and the others had painting on their faces. The Joker does not look as grotesque as he did in the photo on the harveydent site. He has long hair with green highlights in it, he was wearing a long purple jacket with a blue sport coat under it, purple gloves and I regret to say I forget the color of his pants. But anyways, he comes in shooting and people are being hurt and killed left and right, he's looking for Harvey Dent (his first line says so). As Joker is hitting people along the way (he's slapping extras!), comes in Batman in that new suit that was in Entertainment Weekly this week. They fight, it's all long and drawn out and during this, JOKER DOES HIS LAUGH. It was high pitched, unique and really badass. Not exactly like Nicholson's, bu
