THIS is what we are talking about. A film that is popular, entertaining, but also addresses some human issue too. BLOCKBUSTER and GOOD FILM are not mutually exclusive.

I saw this last week and loved it. A rarity indeed: a film for everyone. And man, five minutes of this put those last two Shrek films to utter shame.

I love this guy. I can't wait to see this movie. Its all about story telling and he has it nailed. As Oswalt said, Iron Giant is going to be remembered for generations. Any project with Brad Bird attached to it is automatically worth going to see. I hope Ratatouille blows the box office out of the park. I think people who go to the movies a lot get desensitized to what is real quality...then you see something that is very good and the other stuff fades away quickly. I love Johnny Depp, but the last 2 Pirates have been mediocre stories told poorly. The story and the way it is filmed matters. Artists with a vision are always more interesting than prjects that chase the dollar.

I absolutley love the works that are produced under his leadership and vision. I cry everytime I watch the Iron Giant, especially where he is flying toward the nuke and says "Superman". Don't even get me started on "The Incredibles"; I'm always inspired in a strange way after watching it to believe I can be more in this world.

non Pixar CG films

I agree with the one reviewer on the state of most of the non Pixar CG films with one exception and that was Meet The Robinsons. I thought that was a film that had it's own self contained universe but yet in the same way flowed with ours but wasn't "self-refrential" as ours (i.e. the Katie Couric fish, etc). Someone can poin to the tom Selleck line in that movie but that was so out of left field and unexpected it worked. I thought it was a great cute little movie with a great message.

that he fell out of his seat, particularly when Remy is "directing" Linguini in the kitchen. I would have fell out, too, had I not been watching out for my boy. Ratatouille was sheer fun. I think the concept of a food critic was lost on my 8-year-old, but that was OK. The other characters' anxiety about Ego spoke volumes about his role in things. That's yet another mark of great storytelling. Both "Ratoutille" and "The Incredibles" share wonderful lighting. "Ratatouille" has a warm, romantic feel, with lots of great yellows and oranges, and nuanced shadows. The changing lighting of "The Incredibles" (early period glow, current day flatness) was such a well-used effect. I wonder if one of Bird's directorial points is evocative lighting, or is it that Pixar's lighting team doesn't get the public accolades it deserves. In either case, I love it... and the whole movie. Thanks for giving my family great, lasting entertainment.

Better than the original Walt Disney?

Has Nordling lost his goddamn mind? Pixar could NEVER be better than Walt Disney. They should be proud that they can continue his legacy with great films in comparison to the rest of the animation out there. But better than Disney? Oh, no. They'd need 50 years of animation to be even equal to Walt. While we're on that subject, why hasn't Pixar done any CLASSIC fairy tales? While the quality of the films differ drastically, you can hardly tell a Pixar storyline from a Dreamworks storyline (and even Dreamworks has ONE good fairy tale under their belt).
Yeah, you read right.

With the exceptions of PINOCCHIO and BAMBI (which are equal in my book), I consider the bulk of Pixar to be superior. They are great films, classics, but I'd put in TOY STORY or FINDING NEMO before SLEEPING BEAUTY or CINDERELLA any day of the week.

For the past 10-plus years, we've seen a golden age of animated features from Pixar. Our kids will be watching these with their kids, just as we've watched the traditional Disney classics with them. Transcendent stories and art from both eras. And crying at key points in "Iron Giant" and "The Incredibles" is a foregone conclusion in my house... every time. The scene where Violet gets her mask is strangely moving. Her character grows significantly in that moment.

All Pixar movies are exactly the same? Come on. Same designs, same characters, same plotline, just different species. All the do is tke the same story from the last Pixar movie, pay some ne celeb to do the voice, throw in some pop culture references, and a song by Randy Newman. Then bam! You got the latest Pixar crapfest.
Raphman why spend 2 minutes of your life writing that?

Then dont watch the film you dimwitted twat. We get it, you dont like Pixar movies. Fuck off and watch something else. Jeez you spent a good 10 minutes reading the reviews that said they loved it and you still post such a negative meaningless post to make yourself sound clever? Any chance of dying soon?

the fact that some people condascend him and his chosen medium is irritating and patronising in equal measures. Usually by the same dimmer lights that read all the Harry Potter books as if they've been written for adults, but dumbasses are allowed to be hypocritical I suppose. I love Bird's movies and as a teacher i've shown the Incredibles and Iron Giant in my art classes and every student is hypnotised, mouthing along to every syllable throughout the film. Not many other things in life that can get 8 year olds to memorise 90 minutes of script I gotta tells ya. Cant wait to see this and fuck all the haters, someone needs to firmly kick your asses just for being so damned lame and piss poor in life.

The final moments of that movie, with all the pieces coming together.... SHEER BLISS! Brad Bird, you are an artist in the truest and best sense. If I were making a list of the top 5 most vibrant and interesting and overall amazing directors working today, Bird would be on it easily.
