..samd as all the other posters full of Bionical looking, controlled chaos character design(s). No amount of kick assdom, as a movie, will ever change the fact that these are not what true TF robots are supposed to look like. They're too busy and this poster is literally the poster child that proves this very fact.

This isn't that great. I don't like the pose Prime is in, and I don't like the kids at the bottom. Prime's arms look short and he doesn't have a strong enough stance. There were some nice poses on Bay's blog that they could have used. That said, I think this movie will be E.T., if E.T. was a bad ass fuckin' robot with Michael Bay style action. As long as the action rocks, I'll be happy.

Who in the name of all that is natural gives a RAT'S COCK AND BALLS about this blackgelina jolie movie? lady we all know about Beyond Borders and your cgi starving infant. clive owen can't save every piece of shit he appears in and he isn't even in this new thing. save the humanitarian shit for the real world. or is your ego not big enough? you gotta show us that you are willing to make bombs that nobody cares about, let alone sees, because you are so politically passionate? how about dropping out of an industry that, to put it charitably, doesn't do much for the humanitarian cause and do politics full time, rather than fulfill your fantasy of being a nobly suffering black woman on our fucking dime. seriously bitch: we are all tired of you and you can do more for your precious causes without your face plastered everywhere i don't even look for it. go die. but don't worry-- god's got a place in heaven just for you, right over the hole in the clouds where you can look down at John Voight's private room in hell, where clones of you torture him with their oozing, phoney sexuality.

... had Megatron just shot him with his main weapon and completely ripped his outer hull to pieces and Prime doggedly got up and continued to fight like some Terminator endoskeleton. I try to be opened minded... heck, the toy versions of the movie designs were sort of alien looking, but similar to more traditional TF designs... then I see something like this. And having read the comic adaptation, I don't have much faith that the movie's story is going to help make up for the busy, nasty, and un-Transformer like designs. I hate being a basher without seeing it, but I just have all the wrong feelings....

One of the reasons there's no Talkbacks for ads is because ads are inconsequential. What the hell crawled up your ass that you have to wish for Jolie to die. Where's the OTHER HALF of it?
by Big Dumb Ape
Jun 14th, 2007
09:17:17 PM
Given how distinctly they're all facing to the right it seems that this is clearly one-half of a 2-part poster spread, with Megatron and something else facing back. So where's the other half? I want it as a desktop!

I know it's not your cartoon Transformers...I know its been updated with flames...I know it's Michael Bay...but I still think it looks badass and EXACTLY what I want out of a fun movie to get out of the summer heat. I'm counting the days till this opens. I think it has a good chance of being the doofiest, most fun movie of the year. And, yes, I mean that in a good "It made me feel like a kid again" sort of way!

Looks like "art" from a Japanese board game (circa 1970s). I'll pass on this movie, Stephen Sommers prompted my resistance to CGI-driven "plots". If they need a musical motif for robots, try "The Anvil Chorus" (it worked in a Bowery Boys movie).

This poster reminds me of the opening titles of Team America. Even the poster is expoding into flames. This is of course to make sure that the average movie goer realizes this isn't an ordinary robot movie. No no no. This isn't Last Tango in Paris, where two people collide and unravel together in the nude. No no no.

This movies has flames, FLAMES, FLAMES! Even the main character has flames. This movie is sooo full of action even the poster is bursting into flames. crazy.

As for Jolie, well, there is a new crock with her...
by Big Dumb Ape
Jun 14th, 2007
09:34:38 PM
I don't know why PotsmokinAlien is so upset over an ad -- hell, most of the time I never even notice them here and just click on the articles to go straight to them -- but there is a crock about Jolie and this new movie of her's that she's pushing (playing Daniel Pearl's wife). Apparently Jolie got Paramount and her agent's panties in a bunch the last few days by suddenly demanding out of the blue that all media and interviewers and whatnot sign a legal waiver upfront, basically stating that she gets a 100% approval over all the coverage about her and the movie BEFORE it goes to press. Hmm...nice when you can control absolutely, positively everything that's going to press about you, eh? Holding down the fort in terms of journalistic standards, apparently the AP and a few others told Jolie "screw you" and have refused.

On the flip side, as she's been out promoting this movie, she's likewise been pushing a new cause of hers -- Reporters without Borders -- stating how it's vitally important that we allow reporters to go wherever they want, whenever they want, so that they're free to cover the Third World so the rest of us will learn just how "bad" things are in the world...

...The utter crock of this being that for someone who says they're so in favor of reporters being allowed any where at any time, this is the same woman who demanded that reporters actually be REMOVED and DEPORTED from Africa when she was giving birth specifically so they COULDN'T cover her or report on things...

I'm so sick of this film- and I haven't even seen it yet. Every square inch of it is blasted in my face, at every corner of the internets, and it still feels so wrong. You remember complaining about FF getting screwed, or remember Batman and Robin? Well, there's a fanbase that's getting screwed here too, and just because we're smaller, no one seems to care. I don't want a brainless Transformers movie with lotsa splosions and dick hardening (what is it made out of, the last white rhino?) or that girl's breasts on a camaro. I want a good movie with solid scripting and fully realized robot characters. I want Brad Bird's Transformers, Not Bayformers.

anyone who says they are going to ban this movie is because of some stupid hatred towards Bay is a fucking liar and moron. I am not a Bay fan or apologist but this guy was born to make Transformers. Just like Lucas was born to make Star Wars and Jackson was to do LOTR, Bay is the right guy. This movie is going to be so fucking huge worldwide don't be surprised to see it break all records including MAYBE that of Titanic. It just appeals to so many age groups. Everyone at the bar CHEERED when that trailer was done. I've never in my life been to a bar where a movie trailer played that the patrons cheered. I really cannot wait for this movie. It's going to be a fun fucking rollercoaster and bring me back to being 10 years old again.
A MESSAGE FOR AICN, MY LOVELY
by BadMrWonka
Jun 14th, 2007
10:40:44 PM
you GOTTA extend the number of articles that are on the front page. if news is slow, and a couple days go by with just 1 or 2 new articles, it's fine. but when a rush of stuff comes in, well, it regularly happens that an article will get posted at 10pm on one day, and by 10pm the next day, it's off the front page! and if someone didn't check out AICN that day (not me, I check it everyday, like the geek I am), they wouldn't even have any idea it existed. and since the only way to search for old articles is to know what you're searching for (no way to look at "yesterday's articles" or "last week's articles"), no one will ever see it!

I love the site, and I just hate it when sometimes I'm busy and skip a day, and it happens to be a busy one news-wise, and I miss out.

can't you just extend the main section a bit? or god forbid install something to let people go back a little ways to recent articles that are just out of range to end up on the front page?

It will be almost impossible be exactly like the original cartoon. At least there are a little nods to the cartoon. Don't get me wrong, when i first heard about Bumble being a Chevy, I was skeptical. context. Are you saying on the basis of his track record, that Bay was born to direct transformers? Because when Star Wars came out, the only thing Lucas had done was American Grafiti and I'm kind of wondering how anyone, prior to Star Wars' massive popularity would have ever seen something like that coming. From him. That THX movie was not only widely ignored, but didn't they ask him for their money back after he made it? Likewise, at the time that the LOTR films were being made, I had an impossibly hard time trying to figure out why New Line would bet the farm on one guy who had been, till then, primarily known for making low budget gross out movies that were as melodramatic as they were unrecognized by the general movie going masses. what kind of presience are you practicing and where can I get me some?

They mess up what is an otherwise decent composition. I can't pinpoint why, but I think it might be a lighting thing.

More important, Prime's profile is way off. His head looks somewhat like a gorilla's from that angle, and I think it seriously kills whatever dramatic impact the poster might have had. I suppose it's alright at first glance though. In any case, the trailers have already convinced me that the film will be a great ride.

The new designs are a little busy, but come on the old designs are dated and a little blocky. That CGI test of a Prime-like truck on YouTube is the classic prime design and it does look pretty bad. Also the little snippets of Bumblebee and Grimlock on Sector-7 also remind me of how silly the old designs would look in a live action film. Somewhere in between the busy and the blocky would have been ideal I guess.

Movie about Transformers of just with Transformers

Ultimately for me the biggest fear I have about the movie is that its perspective and focus is that is a story about humans and their interactions with these giant robots. Whereas I was hoping it would be more like its source material and be about the lives of these Giant Robots including their interaction with humans. I think the CGI will be amazing, but will we, the audience actually care about the Transformers other than seeing them as "cool". For me Bay and producers have taken the track as they believe its easier for the audience to connect with humans rather robots, might be, but certainly won't make the movie any more memorable than the usual summer blockbuster. Whereas I think they should have taken the route that Pixar takes and makes the movie about the "toys" or the "fish" and by giving these toys and fish human characteristics, emotions, dealing with important human themes and issue etc the audience connects with this and ultimately they become memorable characters and as we have seen Pixar have made winner after winner. Pixar make cartoons, but they never miss the point that what makes a good movie great or a great movie excellent is ultimately connecting with the audience. It has been said time and time again that George Lucas as an example clearly missed this point (or didn't care) when making the Prequel trilogy. The movies look pretty George but do we really care. My 2 cents, one jaded movie lover and believe me with the tripe offered so far this summer it ain't helping.

Making a live-action flick based on the lives of giant robots is sadly impractical for the costs alone. I can confirm for you that the story is mostly told through the perspective of the humans. Fans may feel that many of their beloved characters are merely reduced to wrecking tools. While this, to a small extent, is true, Optimus and Bumblebee come across as quite noble and caring characters. They are pretty much the only two "fleshed" out bot characters in the movie. That and the stupid gremlin bot who gets WAY too much screen time. Was he even in the cartoons or comics???

I saw the newest trailer before FF2, and I must say, it kicked all kinds of ass. The shot where Optimus Prime transforms, and amidst all the clanking machinery noises, they threw in the old cartoon transform sound effect. I almost burst into tears. Great trailer.

Also, FF2 wants so bad to be a good movie, and almost is in a lot of ways. But seriously, its like the script was written by a 6th grader. And no, Galactus is never anything more than a cloud. There's a helmet-ish shadow at one point, but you never see the big guy himself. That really sucked.

Bay movies by and far have been total shit except for one small detail, the guy knows how to film an action scene. Transformers the cartoon was always about the action plain and simple. Robot vs Robot and blowing shit up. It was a brainless (or genius from a marketing perspective) idea to sell toys. This is Bay's calling. If there is one thing I have 100% faith in with this movie it's the the action of the robots will be better then anyone else could have filmed it for the type of movie this is. This is Bay's franchise. Same as it was only Lucas who could bring us Star Wars or Jackson with LOTR which I know is debatable with some but for me Jackson did the books right for the translation to the big screen considering how much content there was to cover and the time alloted for him to do it in. Jackson was passionate about it the same way Bay is passionate about blowing shit up on screen. Bay may have made some real turds but I truly think that this movie will be the one thing he does that will be his beck and call. And for the one poster who mentions Lucas and American Graffiti, um that was his 2nd film. His first and arguably his best film ever was THX-1138 the real precursor to Star Wars.

I am not trying to say Lucas is the same as Bay I am only saying that this is Bay's calling. He was born to give us a true action packed Robot vs Robot film that will be nothing more and nothing less then what it should be. It's supposed to be fun and make you feel 10 years. It should be brainless as the cartoon was because that's what it was. In that way I think Bay is staying true to the series and those that want something deeper out of it are just whining for nothing. It's always been one big commercial to sell toys but really cool fucking toys. This movie will be loads of fun and honestly what else do you want from a summer popcorn flick? It's got mass appeal across the board. Dad's can take their sons and both are going to be enjoying it just as much. That's what a great movie experience for a lot of people when it can appeal to the entire family instead of a select group. That's what Star War accomplished and that's what LOTR accomplished. It's exactly what Transformers will do in a few weeks. Can't wait.

......the fuck would Bay need to appease G1 fans? You G1 fans and Bay-haters need to use that lonely brain cell every now and then; don't just let it vegetate there doing nothing. They're trying to make money and draw in a new generation of fans who at best may not have been familiar with G1 designs ( or even born yet for that matter and at worst, may have thought that blocky boxy giant robots on screen looked incredibly silly. G1 fans are not as many as you think there are, certainly no where near enough for a Studio, any Studio to choose appeasing them over making a movie that appeal to a wider audience and which will um,......oh yeah........MAKE LOTS OF MONEY; enough to probably even justify a sequel. So you g1 fans can stay at home stuffing your thumbs firmly up your asses waiting for your faithful adaptation that will NEVER get made, while the rest of the world enjoys an action summer movie based on a toy-selling cartoon. Oh wait, that's right I forgot, G1 fans and all the haters are all going to be thee on opening day at the front of the line making themselves look and silly and stupid as they sound now. Right. This poster looks fake or Euro/Asian. Anyone who thinks the original G1 designs would hold up on film?

1. Let's just hope Optimus's gun falls out of the sky and into his hands anytime he needs it and his trailer can magically disappear off to the side of the screen.

2. Let's line up the original G1 designs, make themlook exactly as they did in the cartoon and then ask them all to clap. Optimus's arms would so reach together! If they fought it would look like the puppets fighting in 'Team America'.

3. Rachet isn't a white mini-van ambulance and Ironhide isn't a molester 80's mini-van!?!? Oh God! I can't see this movie. In this day and age how many WHITE and MINIVAN ambulances do you see everyday? None, unless it's run-down and owned by an old-folks home. In some bigger cities you might see something like an Excursion painted in bright and identifying colors so that it stand out from ordinary vehicles.
I really want to see a really cool 80's mini-van Ironhide. As I said on one of the other talkbacks, if there was to be a 'Transformers: Beastwars' movie, you would complain that Optimus transformed into a West African Gorilla opposed to an East Affrican Gorilla.

4. For those of you who want their big 'Giant Fucking Robots Fighting Movie'. If you want to see the original G1 'Decepticreeps' type line and all the kiddy stuff with robots fighting, I suggest to you to watch robot fight in the movie 'Short Circuit' over and over again. It has a sweet 'You're momma was a snow blower' line in there just for you!

5. The people on here that keep saying things about Americans and saying, "nothing but shit comes out of america" - First off, if you're European - you might want to thank an American for your not being a Nazi's toothpick about now. Second, look at the major contributions your country makes to the world everyday.

The Nazis kind of killed about 18 million Russians, because they pretty much had farming tools as weapons. The Russians were to interested in heading into Asia, hence communism is China...Korea...Vietnam...they were all about the spoils left from everyone else. Russia may have held a front, but to say they defeated the Nazis? I think it was a combination of all the Allied Forces, but if America didn't step in when we did, there wouldn't be much of Europe left.

Wow! My brothers and I had the Skorponok toy and low and behold....it transformed into a scorpion. I think some of these guys complaining think they 'remember' G1 instead of actually going back and really watching it.

The animation at most points is laughable at best; watch as Starscream and the other Decepticons are side-scrolling/running across the screen as they transform. Horrible by any animation standards, but I still enjoy the show because I can suspend my disbelief and enjoy who some of the characters are. If you follow the same logic of some of the Talkback haters here, by their standards they wouldn't watch the original cartoon because of the laughable animation.

They keep saying how the blocky look wouldn't work. *which it has been proven it does by several websites*. They keep saying that they the alt modes from the original couldn't work. Well, a white ambulance and red SUV instead of a van isn't asking a whole lot from Ironhide and Ratchet. And they say people who love G-1 don't matter, this is for the new generation. Umm..If I rememember right, if not for us, this movie wouldn't even exist. Nobody is saying changes shouldn't be made, but bay just Paul WS andersoned all over the franchise. The story sounds lame, the designs are too busy, all you care about is the giant splosions and neat-0 CGI. So much for good taste. There was so much potential for this. Pretty sad when the CARTOON had a better origin then the live action movie.
Who's dodging an argument?

03:07:28 PM
Energon, did you even read what I posted above? The block look won't work and the 'several websites' does that include the white prime transformering or the other ILM fake from you tube? They look just that..giant toys transforming.

Answer this is if you can in justification:
Would you want Prime transforming and pulling his gun out of thin air or it dropping from the sky?

Do you want his trailer to disappear off frame?

Those are the things that bother me. Plus line up those designs and see how much movement that looks realistically functional to fight/talk/walk in real world physics? Hell, if we had it the way the G1 purists, we could all buy some Robosapiens and have them shuffle around while Peter Cullen does his voice-over.

All I'm saying is let's see a G! model Prime like the one in the YouTube spot put his hand together in front of his chest. They would never touch without drastically changing the mechanics of the arm; hence some of the principles of the new designs.

It's refreshing to see some of the characters this way. Prime looks good; modern; functional.

As I said on another one of the talkbalks; If all of you G1 purists are so concerned about look, compare the cartoon to their toy counterparts - Ironhides toy and Ratchets are identical and don't even have heads.

According to your post, I assumed that you would want Ironhide (who is one of the toughest Autobots) to transform into an SUV with a carseat and soccer ball in the backseat. He could even be an Eddie Bauer edition.

I don't even want to know which private back water ambulance company still uses white vans to transfer patients.

Still a pretty sad defense for hating on the film.

They still use glass IVs. God I hate new ambulance/fire companies that paint their equipment/vehicles in colors that are easy to identify and use modernized tools. Man a van is a perfect rescue vehicle that can drive off-road or into dangerous situations. Who would want to have a militarized vehicle or a big heavy duty truck to do that kind of work. I'm sure we'll save lives and money if we use white vans.
I don't think he does -

I think Skorponok for the film is more of a minion ala Ravage/Frenzy/Rumble. I'm not sure if he has an alt mode that we see, but there have been several Transformers (Dinobots included) that stay in their alt modes more than we have even seen them in bot mode.

Grimlock is a paradigm to this, as when I think of him in my head I think of him in his alt mode. Even in the animated feature, he never transforms into his bot mode and frankly I prefer to think of him this way. Skorponok in my mind doesn't matter and I don't hold him up to the standards and charm of Grimlock; so why should it matter in this film.

His original toy was a bot that had a minion that tranformed into his head, but the toy was huge.

It helps to keep workers safe (most medics receive injuries by being hit by drivers not noticing them). I might be biased in that respect, but it makse a lot of sense to me for him to be painted in those colors. Most fire depts color their boxes red with neon reflectors that are green or yellow, while most private firms that I have seen use reflective green/red with white base.

Wow...the pictures on the first page of that search...wiki came up...had ambulances from the following countries under the pics (San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico; Czech Republic). The chopper looked US/Euro; but hmmm....painted in bright Yellow from cockpit to prop.
If the source didn't do it; Why should the film?

I gave examples with Grimlock. The source did it; so why does it make any difference to you if a secondary character that is not really known transforms or not?

That doesn't make a bad movie. 'Troll 2' is a bad movie.
DocMHumphrey, how dare you criticize TROLL 2

That deathless classic is playing in L.A., at the Nuart, on August 10.
No, seriously. TROLL 2.

Skoronok can transform...I just don't think he does in the film.

People who use the 'TINO' phrase as a trump card in a conversation is the irrelevancy. Please explain how this is possibly Transformers in Name Only.

So are you saying that every toy compared to the cartoon/comic are TINO? Hell, there's a red edition of Bumblebee and a Yellow Cliffjumper. I have them both. I did not scream to the sky 'TINO'!

My example of Grimlock does have weight. How much time does Grimlock spend in dino mode compared to bot?

What about my Ironhide/Ratchet example? Their toys sucked compared to what they looked like in the cartoon, but yet you don't cry TINO to those.

My point is that you selectively pick one or two little things about this film and cry horror, comparing it to the inconsistant original source. I loved both playing with the toys, reading the comics, and watching the show. I never cried TINO over the differences, nor do I use it to end a conversation.

I love the characters too, I grew up with them also. It just doesn't mean the end all be all.

Ratchet for instance, it just doesn't bother me. Being a huge hummer capable of going off road and maybe actually rescusing someone in a forest fire or a flood. A van ambulance can't do that. It make him a little tougher in my mind, a little more durable. I can understand a change like that. I'm hoping that when I see the film that I'll have the same connection I did with the major characters like Bumblebee and Prime. Look back and watch the initial G1 pilot. How many lines did Ratchet have in there.

One question still lies though, why do you berate the film vs. cartoon, but yet don't mention anything like the cartoon vs. cartoon inconsistencies or even the toy vs. cartoon ones.

There are many inconsistencies in this franchise, so why is the film critizied so heavily while the others are not? Was it the chance for the filmmakers to, "get it right"? Sometimes things just add up right. Yeah she's a hot chick and she rings your bell, but once you go on that date with her and find out that she is as interesting as a brick it changes a part of the dynamic.

Bringing the Transformers to film in a realistic setting just maybe didn't translate well. Having tough and fast moving vehicles are great example. Bumblebee looks great as a Camero, honestly, look at how many different incarnations of Bumblebee there have been and you going to be critical about him being a Camero now?

I understand about Prime, I wanted to see the flat nose too and the flames bother me too. I thought it was a smart and interesting choice with the Peterbuilt, because they are a bigger truck and also the salute to Spielburg for 'Duel'. That's cool, maybe did it entirely have to be in the 'Transformers' movie, no, but I'm not going to go crazy and about it.

I gave up on the Transformers franchise after Beastwars and when it turned into Pokemon/Power Rangers crap. I'm looking at this movie to breathe life back into the stale franchise, differences and all. It could fail for me on a personal level, but I haven't seen the film yet, so I don't really know how to judge it as a whole quite yet.

That these arguements continue on and on with such intensity and conviction and still mean nothing since the movie hasn't been released or the fact that I read every single post in this talkback. We are all such nerds.

Beyond the aesthetic maelstrom known as "flames on Optimus", there are reasons for changes. I loved the TF in the 80's as a kid. I ranked it above Star Wars, GI Joe, Thundercats...He-man ran a close second. This is live action, sport. Peterbilt = added mass for size...thousands of moving part to accomodate realistic movement and articulation...etc, etc. Rent the original cartoon/movie if you need a "box"obot, mass-shifting fix. talkbackers who whine about reasonable changes to the TF = nipples on Batman.

Russians (Soviets)...and then Britain...we come in third...and while we do definitely deserve some credit, the Soviets were the main reason Hitler fell, and without the long and sustained efforts of all three nations, Hitler would have conquered Europe. It's in the history books.

The Soviets weren't the main reason Hitler fell, it was the fact he attacked the Soviet front by dividing his forces. It's in the history books that the Russians at the time didn't have the equipment nor the resources to fight the war, hence the huge ratio in Nazi casualties vs. Russian casualties. If Hitler wouldn't have gotten over-confident, he could have concentrated the rest of his troops on us and we would have had a huge fight on our hands.

Never mind anything like statistics or valuable information. I mean England is roughly the size of Florida and at the time of WWII their population was not even close to the United States at the time. Yeah the Brits are great fighters and they fought with us, but saying the Russians 'defeated' the Nazis is a long shot. The only thing they were good at was grabbing spoils at the end of the war. Anyone from Berlin want to add to this? Thank a Russian? Anyone here from China? North Vietnam? Korea? Afganistan? Any takers? Even if they could answer someone would be banging on their door in the next day or so. Let's look up Charles de Gaulle or maybe Churchill; they have some interesting opinions on Americans and our contributions.

Anyways...I still think this one-sheet poster is European or Asian. I don't think it will be in an American theatre. Has anyone seen it?
