I didn't figure it would be. A project that trades down from WS Anderson is a project that should just be released back into the wild until someone better gets the bug. And VAN HELSING isn't that bad. For me, it beat the hell out of the faux-Shakespearean self-importance of the UNDERWORLD flicks -- and Beckinsale is infinitely more fun to look at in a corset than she is with her mouth always retardedly agape from the fake fangs. Prepeare to go megaton, Quint.

There's certainly enough of a mythology to draw upon some good stories- and I'm sure more children of the 80's associate the name "Belmont" with Dracula than "Bram Stoker" or "Helsing". Though i must admit, I'm surprised Castlevania is being made- when i saw Van Helsing, I was certain that crappy, crappy movie ahd killed off any chance of us getting a Castlevania movie.

well, SOLDIER was decent if derivative. he killed me with AVP (how you could fuck that up is beyond me - rhetorical question; watch his movie for a step by step guide). RESIDENT EVIL franchise is silly but only offensive to people who think the video game makes a great movie to begin with (it doesn't; it's all broad strokes - not that the movies are any good). MORTAL KOMBAT was just dumb. I kinda sorta liked it when I was 15. Even then, though, it was a dumb idea for a movie. I wouldn't expect much from this. He's more competent than boll, though. so it'll be better than bloodraye...except we won't see the T3 girl's boobies. so that pretty much balances out. it's stv fodder as far as I'm concerned.

Michael Bay.
White + Stomp the Yard
by Massawyrm 1
Jun 14th, 2007
05:44:06 AM
Stomp the Yard is very solid for what it is - he's gonna catch crap for it from the fanboys who haven't seen it, but it isn't ANYTHING to be ashamed of. However, the bizarre opening sequence/beyond the thunderdome dance off had an incredible feel, great cinematography and pacing. ANd it kind of belied a sense that he might be into something much cooler than what he was doing. If white's going full on into genre, I think he could be REALLY interesting. This isn't bad news at all.
WS's script is horrible news though.

I'm predicting that the lead will not be a Belmont, although a Belmont will have a small one line cameo. I'm also predicting that the protagonist will not use a whip. Another inevitability is that they will forgo the gothic prog rock musical style of the games for a techno metal soundtrack to appeal to the teens. There will also be a forced romantic subplot and guns.

I'm sure lots of people with no talent are perfectly pleasant but it doesn't redeem their work. I hear this all the time on this website..."Eli Roth is a real friend to all geeks."...."Despite his crappy films, Paul WS Anderson is a great guy to have a few brews with."

The people who read this website aren't looking for possible friends, we're looking for movies we might want to see. But if I ever get lonely, I'll keep Mr. Yardstomper in mind. Maybe we'll go see a movie together, hopefully one directed by an insanely talented asshole with no social skills like James Cameron.

Absolutely no hope for this movie now. Not that I had any before, but have you seen this guy's credits? I'd sooner recommend Stevie Wonder to direct.

And why does every potentially bad movie have to be compared to "Howard the Duck?" Gigli I get, but Howard? Granted, compared to the comic, it did indeed suck balls. None of the socio-political commentary of Steve Gerber. However, taken on its own, its a nice slice of 80's cheese. Gigli deserves every bit of venom, but the duck.... As comic movies go, it still ain't "Batman & Robin", which is a monumentally good thing. At least HtD is watchable, even if its goofy as fuck.

Plus, duck tits. Bonus points for that, right? =)

I think that all of these videogame movies need to stop. Seriously. 98% of them suck. The other 2% star Angelina Jolie's love muffins.

Would have liked to see an awesome AVP but well...you know. I just don't understand how when you have a property rich with mythology and detail that already has an amazing amount of fans worldwide, how can you look at that and say " well, thats an ok place to start but we're going to completely change everything so that even the most casual of fan doesn't have a problem understanding what's going on". It's not enough to take a property like AVP and turn it into a kick ass action flick, some dumb ass studio head tells dumb ass producer to tell dumb ass writer to make sure this is a movie people can take there dates too. That turns into female lead and main bad guy/hero Predator having some kind of bizzare sexual tension towards each other....fucking stupid. Just rent the games and develop them into some on screen action.

if they're still using Anderson's script. If you really think about it, his terrible writing is 75% of why his movies suck. Look at Event Horizon, his 'best' movie. He didn't write it. He can point and shoot as well as any run of the mill director. Anyway, I'm sure White is a better director than Anderson, so this elevates the project a little bit, but it's still built on a foundation of shit.

It's pretty damn effective when it wants to be...the imagery of the "Chaos Dimension" through the audio clips and ships log playback...pretty hard core without being torture porn graphic. It's more of a psychological thriller than a pure horror flick. Give it another look if you haven't seen it in a while. The only character I really can't stand is Kathleen Quinlan's knockoff of Veronica Cartwright's character from "Alien".

But it was a good movie. Sure I have seen similar stories before in other films. 01:05:52 PM
Paul WS Anderson dropped out of the director's chair on Castlevania months ago. That said he is still producing it and they are moving forward with HIS screenplay, so I don't see what everyone is excited about. Anderson isn't really a bad director, but he's a horrible screenwriter and that's why most of his movies end up being trash. Last time we had someone else direct an Anderson screenplay we got Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Now if White is a solid director, then we have a chance of this turning out decently, but unless he rewrites Anderson's screenplay then we aren't going to get a good film out of this.

The beginning of the film with the Mad Max looking dance off, crazy music, and interesting characters was really well done. It was almost hipnoticthe way everything flowed with the bead.

And "crayotic", did you even see the movie before u bashed it? Because when you say stuff like "Sure, a movie that's essentially about river-dancing (BUT LOOK IT'S HIP BECAUSE BLACK KIDS ARE DOING IT, AMIRITE??)" is not an accurate description about African American Fraternity/Sorority Stepping which is what this film is about.

by George Newman

His greatest weakness is that he writes his own films.

He has access to fantastic source material, but he has severe tunnel vision when it comes to fully realizing the potential in the movies. His ideas are poor and short-sighted. He handicaps himself, tying one hand behind his back all because he wants to write the films by himself, with out anyone else's help.
