I laughed. More than once. But I never felt good about it. I saw this the day after I saw Superbad, which was a much better and funnier film. This just suffered by comparison. Still one of the decade's best comedies, and the decade's sorta winding down at this point. If the director's credit went to Takeshi Miike but otherwise it was exactly the same film, 2/3 of the people who hate it would be farting out their mouths about how awesome it is and how the mainstream audiences are just too stupid to get it. Apparently the arthouse audience is also too stupid to get it if it's in English and created by someone considered to be too "lowbrow" to take seriously. Fuck 'em all, FREDDY GOT FINGERED is the shit. Any Hollywood studio comedy that tries for genuine surrealism gets mad props over here, even if it falls short of the mark. Green's film does not fall short. The edges are rough but the structure is sound. The love story between the very weird Green and his wheelchair-bound nymphomaniac rocket scientist nurse is handled with an alarming amount of sincerity, and you really end up caring about if it works out for them or not. Part of what makes this film work, fuck the haters, is that it knows when not to go for the "shocking" cheap gags. There's shocking gags here, but for the most part they're not cheap ones, they're elaborate and berzerk. Lesser filmmakers would have kicked the girl in the wheelchair down a flight of stairs for a laugh. Green bravely makes her a credible romantic interest (and the film's voice of reason) instead. When characters mock her disability, it's not played for laughs and it isn't funny; Green's looking to make you squirm in your seat and it works. If there's one film of the 2000s that's overdue for a total re-appraisal, this is it. Save the venom for feces like HEARTBREAKERS or SAVING SILVERMAN. That crap is truly worthless.

...From the opening scene in the movie, Tom Green told the audience what he was going to do. By playing the song that the Sex Pistols broke up to, it was obvious that Freddy Got Fingered was going to be a big middle finger to the studios. I liked it for the rebellious manner in which it was made.

Hell, it was so freaking stupid yes, lotsa things that were on the same intellectual level has an origami, but funny? HELL YA! For anyone who thought that the movie would be a funny one because of the previous movies Green did, well they were wrong. Why? Because they didn't actually watch Green going at it in his other movies. Road Trip had a story, then Green put a mouse in his mouth and freaked out when they put the snake on his hand. Now that was 100% Green. The guy his a fucking genious for some "Unsuspecting Comic Relief". Anyone who were fans before he left Ottawa to MTV's big money contract know this. He painted his folks' house plad, he made statues of his dad and mom, one was his dad in a pose that looked like he was going to hit his mom with a baseball bat, the second was his dad doing his mom from behind, and he put those on the freaking front lawn. He also painted his dad's car hood, yes... Two lesbians going at it... Fucking priceless look on his dad's face when he wanted to take the car to go to work... See that was his humour, and the FGF movie was about his shit, not someone else's. Anyone want to see those skits, it's worth it. I don't know if they're on Youtube yet, but try to find them, funny shit...

Having seen the movie, I don't think the reviewer above sounds like a plant. I just don't think he has very high standards. This movie has a bunch of big laughs, I can't argue with that. But it's also a choppy mess full of missed opportunities. It wishes so much to be NAPOLEON DYNAMITE but all it does is make you realize that pulling off a movie like NAPOLEON, which seems so simple, maybe is more difficult than it seems. Samberg himself is the weakest part of the movie, he is outshined by several members of the supporting cast. I think a bunch of people will probably get a kick out of the movie, especially the type of teens that just don't know any better. But they'll probably have forgotten all about the movie two days later.
