It's nice to hear that Pixar is doing a film about actual humans beings and not some goofy, cross-eyed animals.

was about JCOM being live-action and directed by Brad Bird. It turned out that Bird will be doing 1906...but Pixar supposedly IS thinking about doing JCOM as their first live-action film. Which is quite a bit more of a departure than just being their first unoriginal property. I know that sounds crazy, but that's how the news stands right now. And I don't know how it could really still be "Pixar" if it's live (maybe a 300-style, 90% animated type of deal?) If that's the case then god knows when they're planning on going into production. It could even come out sooner than some of those other films perhaps. In any case, they seem to have some un-usual ideas as far as approach that they're being tight-lipped about. There's also been some interesting developments involving Zemeckis that might have some impact on JCOM. Of course, it's all speculation at this point. I just hope as a fan of the material that there's some big announcement they're holding back...I'd much rather see a JCOM-flick sooner rather in 2000-teen-something.

Pixar continues to come up with the best themes and stories for their movies. I may see Cars as a blemish, but at least they don't make 8,000 goddamned all talking animal movies. Or try to cash in on penguin fever.

...the idea of Pete Docter directing this has me extremely excited. Plus, it's fucking Pixar. They still haven't let me down, not even with last year's "Cars," which I was sure was going to be the first Pixar flick to completely suck. The more Pixar the better, if you ask me!

disney was trying to move along on their own with toy story 3 before they aquired pixar. the story was something like : there was a recall on buzz lightyear toys everywhere, so buzz gets sent back to japan and woody and friends have to save him. but then disney got pixar then pixar abandoned disneys plot and started all over. in fact this is a perfect time for wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T oy_Story_3

Toy Story 3 was scrapped...

I asked one of their animators about this a week after the disney-pixar deal was announced, and he said they had scrapped all work that had so far been done. He quite rightly said he thought the fans would want a Toy Story film done by the origial crew. Apparently toy story 3 was looking VERY different to the first two.
JCOM...Later

According to Jon Favreau's old JCOM myspace group, Disney bought the rights with hopes of PIXAR branching out. He also mentioned that it could be a while before they work on the project he has been in talks with the Burroughs Family for quite a while and was pushing for it to be made, then they tell him he's out. Not in bad words but still. He told us it was a sad story. I hope they go Live Action.

I've seen some stills from the film, and it didn't look like the UP to me, eh!? No pasties, no deer, no miles of scrub cedar trees. But that premise would make a good pixar film! We need a CGI remake of Escanaba in da Moonlight!

I was in my twenties and had no shame seeing Toy Story with my buddies (no kids). It was amazing. All their concepts, and the rendering thereof, have been brilliant. The stories are clever and tight, the characters are memorable, and the voice actors have all done-top notch jobs (they know how to pick their damn voice actors). And damn, Holly Hunter's Elastigirl is the sexist animated female I have ever seen, ever. I had impure thoughts about her.

Pixar's definitely on a roll. Disney would have been seriously wounded it they had let Pixar slip through their fingers. I agree, best animation studio currently around with a nod to Miyazaki and Ghibli. John Carter of Mars - oh yeah. And let's hope Bird's next project will be Incredibles 2.

It would be near difficult to make JCOM "Princess of Mars" anything but PG-13 or R. Now if we can only get it Live Action or "300" style Cg look.
