Who's next, Streaky? Comet the Super-Horse? Yellow Kryptonite? Though it was a giddy thrill seeing Bizarro Clark's face crystallize over in the season finale's last shot. I hope he has as much fun saying "GOODBYE!" upon entering a room as he clearly has playing Red-K "Kal."

Maybe it's just my take on Supes, but when you start throwing in Supergirl, you might as well just throw in Krypto the Superdog too...all this retro fitting of the Superman myth annoys me. Why the need to spin off heroes like She Hulk "just because"

If you´ve stuck around this long and have seen basically all of the Superman characters appear on the show (including Krypto,) you know Bizarro, and future appearances by other comic book characters won´t be handled in a manner that will piss you off.

Smallville has been a great showcase for leading ladies of 70's genre franchises: so far we've seen Margot Kidder, Carrie Fisher and Lynda Carter (and I've been wanting to see Erin Gray show up for some time now!), but this would be a nice nod to the previous generation if we had Helen Slater appear, even if just in a holographic picture from home that Kara keeps with her. Even better, though, I'd love them to start her storyline in Argo City, with Kara & family watching life in Smallville through their Silver-Age super-telescope. It could make some funny inside jokes that she's been watching Clark's adventures for years, with the potential for lines like "I miss Pete!" Oh, and the series finale should be when Clark meets the Legion.

So I've heard we will NEVER see Clark fly in Smallville. That SUCKS. So when does he practice flying? When he moves to Metropolis? They have already shown that he can fly when he is "Kal El". If they want to keep their audience they may want to let him try flying. Oh and keep Lana OUT of the hospital for an episode.....

I was wondering what they were going to come up with for season 7. Clark needs someone else who is like him to relate to, and if Lana is gone for at least half of the season, this could shape up to be a pretty good year. Clark could also use some male friends, rather than the harem of women he's been keeping for the past few seasons. They should bring back Oliver Queen. I also hear they are trying to bring Pete back at some point next season and that Jimmy Olsen will be a regular. I'm going to miss Ma Kent, though.

Smallville is best show on the CW and still one of the best incarnations of Superman ever. Sure it falls into some the conventions of 20+ episode seasons, but if you can pull you fanboy ass out of your comic books and get over the fact that this is a modern re-imagining and not a direct translation from your beloved panels, you'd realize this show is really quite clever, still really fun, and has been entertaining and original much longer than it has had any right to be.

i watched that document on supermans creation and such fourth and they had bit when talked about smallville and like dawnm thats looks good why did i never watched it then i remembered oh yea it started the exact same time and year 24 did and i choose something new over another superhero show that looked like ripoff of buffy. well i bought season 1 last summer loved it season 2 and so on till by time the 6th season came on i was all caught up, and u now what it really aint that bad of a show i really like it and its easier watch with tivo now lol... and the whole series is so much better then all movies except superman 1 and 2. if warner were smart when show did end they make movie Franchise out this like Star trek.its still funny how years later u can get into a show and be caught up before 2nd or even 6th season comes on, best thing ever happened tv, like movies is def dvds!

Welling rather than Routh?? Routh isn't a fantastic actor, but he can act circles around Welling, who can't emote to save his fucking life. Welling is a horrible actor. He's in the show because he's eye candy like so many others in it. Hell, I want to move to Smallville. All of the girls are hot unless the story demands otherwise. Smallville lost me a long time ago. I got sick and tired of the Xeroxed scripts with the Monster of the Week™ baloney. After I saw the Lana Witch story, I gave up. That was just bad beyond words.

Smallville has become it's own alternate Superman universe. I haven't watched this show since they decided to introduce Lois Lane into the show. I might watch if they bring in Bruce Wayne but only if he causes major havoc to this show which seems way too comfortable with it's current formula. Make new interchanges on the relationships... then intro comic characters in their new Smallville friendly forms. At this point this show is irrelevant. When it began it had promise and possibility now it's just lost among all the other shows on tv. For those this news excites I hope you do get a great woman cast as Supergirl. I'm going to bet you that it's some girl you've only seen in one or two things along the years and not Kristen Bell or anyone like that. KB has Gossip Girl, and a burgeoning movie career to look after. The sooner Smallville finds its end the better. I feel like it's the concept talked about in Idiocracy. Shows like BSG and VM are cancelled, or have a predetermined end time so we only get a little bit of time to enjoy the show. But shows like this with little to no innovation year to year will go on and have 8 or 9 seasons.

ofcourse it was going to be a different story to the original origin story of clark kent. i mean, that was written decades ago. and the new origins they come up with now even have changes in them just to keep up with the times. but true, they need to come up with newer regular villains, stop interchanging the love triangles and do something really interesting. although i thought manhunter bein there was really cool, especially the hints like the cookies and the fear of fire. finally, an adult hero. but bruce should turn things upside down for clark too, they shoulda used him instead of oliver queen. but still, the show has good qualities to it. personally im happy its still around. tom welling has improved, erica durant is always hot, i love that lana is a little darker than i remember her, and chloe has always been an interesting and cute character. All around, its an above average show. Better even.

...it if they would iintroduce the character of Powergirl because i find that I become sexually stimulated by the sight of a woman who has unusually large breasts. and in the world of comic book art where almost all women have 38-D cup busts or larger, for a woman to be "unusually large" translates into pretty spectacular by real world standards. Of course the trick would be to find a woman with unusually large real breasts: implants are old and busted. So '90s.

That's the tentative title of Singer's sequel - face it, SR made $$$ and WB will probably give Singer another shot - is there ANY chance we can convince him to do something that isn't a Donner retread? ANY chance he will go back to a real Supes suit? Arrgh - oh, and Smallville kicks ass - we got to see Superman Red and Superman Blue (kinda) and Bizarro - and me wish Chloe not Lois - in other words, Alison Mack should be Lois - mmmmm, Alison Mack. For Supergirl? Hell, I'll dream big - Scarlett Johansson - ahhhh...

I began watching this on Netflix and haven't seen last season yet, so I've been avoiding all SV talkbacks.... I've really enjoyed the show overall but I've got to ask.... did Martha Kent drive anyone else batshit? I'm not at all familiar with the actress but found her horribly distracting with her overacting... and the idea that the character could become a local political figure? I just couldn't buy it. I thought she was by far the worst part of the show.... not trying to start any shit here, with you long-timers.... genuinely curious, especially Shermdawgs opinion.....

Shoehorning everything into a small, one dimensional, lame, juvenile plot that gets introduced and resolved in 45 minutes is not a formula for success. Reboot please.

The supergirl you reference is Matrix. a supergirl from another earth. OK, this is pretty convoluted, but....when John Byrne redid Superman in the 80's, he got rid of a lot of continuity. He has actually admitted that he had done some things differently. Anyhoo, the Supergirl hit by Doomsday is a clone of a Lana Lang from a pocket dimension created for the sole purpose of trying to explain Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes. She was created by that dimension's Lex Luthor, who was of course, a good guy, and she had powers that were not even very similar to Supes. I told you it was convoluted.

... But of course, DC has to maintain all available copyrights (don't want some hack company putting out it's own SG, just because someone didn't do the obvious and apply for copyrights on any and all variations of "Superman")... that's why all the Superwomen, Superdogs, Supercats, Superhorses, etc. over the years... business decision, just like having Mark Waid do yet another Supes origin to match the one on Smallville. No matter what they do, SG's a lame character with a convoluted origin. Peter David did a good job with it, but again, convoluted origin. The best origin was the one on Superman:TAS. However, instead of "the Planet Argo", where the citizens are all related to the Kryptonian race, my idea would've been to have her be from a lost colony of Krypton or a huge Kryptonian space station (built from an asteroid, maybe?) in a wide orbit, after 1000's of years, it orbits back to Krypton, but "Ooops! It's gone, blown up, and the radiation from the leftover debris is killing us!" Luckily, good ol' Zor-El manages to live long enough to shove his daughter into a spaceship and launch her to Earth. Would've been cool to have the Kryptonian colony/space station be different culturally from the home planet, due to it having been established at an earlier stage of Kryptonian history. Could've even called it "Argo" and have Kara & family be of the House of El and therefore still related to Supes. Dramatic tension would arise from SG being a proud Kryptonian from a more imperialistic culture than Supes who looks down on us uncivilized and primitive Earthlings... sort of a "Family Ties" thing where the kid's more conservative than the parent (Supes). Whatever. I don't watch Smallville, so who cares.

Here's the official casting call:
by Napoleon Park
Jun 12th, 2007
04:31:35 PM
The casting call: ""SUPERGIRL" (Kara) - 19 years old, Caucasian, blonds preferred, or willing to dye hair blond. Beautiful, smart and funny. She is Clark's cousin. She was born on Krypton and is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El's brother. Kara possesses all of Clark's power and one he doesn't yet have - she can FLY! Kara also has a strong, rebellious streak which puts her at odds with Clark, and puts her into Lex's radar. This is a 7/13 Series Regular role."

I have a question: they got the hair color of almost every major character on their series wrong: Clark has blue-black hair, not brown, Lana has red hair, not black, Martha Kent has white hair, not red. So why are they bothering to try to get it right now? And since Krypton is multi racial and not known to be a racist civilization, why does Kal-El's cousin have to be "caucasian", especially on a show with an Asian Lana Lang? Why start descriminating now?

And when will TV and movie producers wise up to the fact that there are subtle differences in white ethinic groups that go beyond hair color. They get a blonde to play Mary Jane and paint her hair red. They get a brunette italian to play Clair 'The Cheerleader' Bennet and paint her blonde. IT DOESN'T WORK, folks, stop pretending it does. It worked for Madonna because a tramp with bleached hair was the image she was going for, but it doesn't work for iconic comic book characters.

Clark can fly, can't he???
by McCroskey
Jun 12th, 2007
06:23:16 PM
I thought they have established that Clark is physically capable of flight already, its just that he doesn't yet know how to do it mentally. I base this on three episodes; the first being the one where he wakes up floating above his bed and falls once he realizes he is floating, the second being the one where he rescued Lana from the tornado and it is implied the he flew, and the third being the one where he actually did consciously fly but was in Kal-El mode.
McCroskey, you are correct...
by anchorite
Jun 12th, 2007
06:40:20 PM
And I can't wait for them to get him in his Superman mode already. I am so sick of the damn show at this point, yet I keep watching because I love every time they introduce the mythology into an episode. It just doesn't happen nearly enough anymore. And the whole Lana-Clark thing sucks almighty ass. No wonder Michael Rosenbaum wants the hell out. The show has become increasingly one-note over the last few seasons. No one looks like they're enjoying themselves anymore. But I'm hanging in there in the hopes of seeing Clark Kent learn to fly. Well, and to become Superman.

SR did Clark flying better than Smallville ever will
by Drath
Jun 12th, 2007
11:05:45 PM
And there was a lot that SR didn't do very well, but it got Clark's discovery of his powers right in a much better sequence than anything Smallville has or will do. Of course it was mostly with FX, so the Smallville guys probably tell themselves that's what a movie can do. The one time they did have Clark fly, it was obviously copying the Matrix but still a highlight for the series. They seem to think if he flies then he's Superman or Superboy--never mind how superficial that view is since he is behaving like Superman/boy already. In my opinion it's all just further proof that they've stretched out the story about three seasons longer than it should have been. They should have ended the third season with Mr. Kent dying, Clark leaving Smallville to create the Fortress of Solitude and learned from Jor-El, and picked up season 4 after a 5 year gap (easily done with the actors who look to old for their supposed ages anyway), with Clark moving to Metropolis (series name change), ditching Lana for Lois, and Lex becoming evil in the missing years so that it becomes a mystery of his arc.

Even if it is expensive, why not show it again? Ok. Show he can do it once. Then just imply he is flying around. Cost of effect problem solved. I think DC has put too many limitations in the show, and if they were lifted up, the show could take the potential it has and do a great final season. Think Justice League here.
