as said above he wont be in it because they just messed him up trying to get him in the first one. each iteration enraged fans of the character. Soundwave should Transform into almost anything. Aslong as its sort of mystical, unexpected, SPECIAL. Not a freaking car of ANY KIND. Helicopter wouldn't be all that bad as long as his robot mode is good. p>Better would be either a Cybertronian super computer that has rectangular data stoorage for him to EJECT. Or even a notbook computer.... Just as long as he says in a monotone voice... "LAZERBEAK. EJECT. OPERATION. SURVEILANCE.." And a rectangular type data storage shoots out of his chest and transforms and flies off.

I think now that after we've BOUGHT Transformers in this movie. We will be able to buy the extent of their technology doing maical things such as a character like Soundwave growing and shrinking in size.Find a specific purpose for him to be a digita recording device or something... FACT: Soundave was ever a music device, thats why the tapes were so small. he was meant to be a MICROASSETTE RECORDER. It says so right on the toy "MICRO CASETTE RECORDR. THose things are still in use today. Even if walkmans have ben replaced with MP3 Players.

The storyline in this movie leaves open the possibily of a sequel being true blue Transformers. Ever since the script leaked, nerds have already started writing their own sequels that "fix" what is established in it. There is hope. We can still get Optimus as a big red truck, Bumblebee as a little yellow guy, a non-gorilla Starscream, and a Cybertronian war. The concepts and lessons from the original can still be installed. It's not too late to repair the damage.

Notice thats what he's known for. That and his cool ass voice. You WILL need Welker to replicate that voice again. And that VOICE is KEY to character. I'm not saying this cause Soundwave is MY favorite character i'm saying it because I know he is probably MORE important to get right than Optimus Prime. Here is how to think of Soundwave. He has a relationship with 4 smaller characters. They are his MINIONS. He stores them within his chest cavity and ejects them. Mostly as a means of transporting information. WHY? Why not send data through wireless transmission.? Because, sending robot to transport the data. If you TRUST that robot to get the data there. You can trust that information will not be intercepted. Also, the smaller characters can get into smaller places.

...voice actors deserve more respect. Especially in this day and age when studios will constantly hire "name" celebrities for voice casts. Some of these people turn out to be quite good at it, but many of them do substandard work and just show how good these guys are. There's a difference between voice acting and just reading the lines.

NO SOUNDWAVE IS NOT IN THE MOVIE. p>Look at thse pictures. Does it look anything like that thing? No. They originally going to call it soundwave til they realized what a mistake that would be. Then they renamed him to Soundbyte. Fans were still pissed cause the name was just TOO SIMILAR to Soundwave so they renamed him again to Frenzy. ACTUALLY AT FIRST The helicopter was goin to be Soundwave... afterI believe Hasbro insisted he become a music player they changed that characters name to Blackout. YOu can still see remnants of Soundwave in that character though. That character still ejects Skorponok off of his back, and he tillblasts "sonic EMP blasts" to give him an excuse to name him Soundwave.... For all those reasons above how fucking cool would it be to see the REAL Soundwave kick Blackouts ass in a sequal?

The problem with your argument is that if the filmakers did not use any of their own imagination/talents and simply hired all the original voice cast (i.e. Cullen, Welker, Bell, Kasem, etc.), designed the robots to look exactly like the G1 cartoon, and said "fuck you" to all the other Transformer incarnations (and fans) you could still very well end up with a crap film. I can remember when I was a kid finding out that Optimus Prime was voiced by someone named Peter Cullen and thinking, "Man, this Cullen guy must be pretty cool to be the voice of this great character." And then I'd hear his voice doing commercials and stuff (I remember one for Lonesome Dove in particular) and taking notice because it sounded like Optimus was talking. The movie may blow goats, but it's going to be nice to hear Optimus again, even if the voice will be coming through those god-awful lips.

I took my 10 yr old nephew to see Spidey 3 and the trailer for this was on before it. His comment was "Coooool" which to a certain level I agree with. There are big robots on screen kicking ass. Bear in mind there is no room for characters or plot in the trailer. My big concern for this film is, I haven't been able to sit all the way through a Bay film since The Rock which I found ok and not something I've wanted to re-watch since the 1st time. I can actually look past that the characters and some of the designs won't be much like Transformers as we know them but having to sit through a Bay film???

When I watched the trailer to TF before Pirates 3, there was a row of high school kids who were looking down on the movie (as high schoolers do) saying it was for kids cause its from a toyline. So basically this movie is targeting the youngest of young? I like how toy stores are flooded with TF movie toys now. Voice acting is going to come back big, I predict in about 10 years that there will be more or as much of a demand for voice actors vs regular actors. Since CGI and blue screen technology is getting better and more cost effective ala Moore's Law, there will not be as much of a demand for an actor for their looks but more for their voice. Pretty soon we will not be able to tell the difference between a real actor and a CGI character and thats where voice acting will come in. Just imagine bringing back classic actors like John Wayne and Marlon Brando.

Mad-Maximus, they've been talking about that since Jurassic Park came out. CG replacing actors is a billion years away. The new generation of kids growing up today don't watch much TV and are not brand sensitive at all. They dont give a shit about "star names" as much as the previous gens. So the value of having a star voice actor will go down in the future. However, as CG movies become more cost effective, studios will continue to use them like crazy into the foreseeable future.

This is the first time I've heard him say anything on the designs. But if you re-read his comment he doesn't say he likes it, he just goes on about how things change and that you can justify the change if you look at it in a certain way, and then quickly changes the subject to the writing and the character. He can't outright dump on the film, because he'd get in trouble. But that's a very lukewarm piece of "praise" IMHO.

I just realisied that Transformers is coming out the same week as the Simpsons over here...possibly even the same day. Somebody really screwed up bad at Paramount because the Simpsons is gonna destroy Transformers in a box-office head to head. This has nothing to do with how bad the Transformers script is, it's about the Simpsons and how popular they are over here. If you also take into account that Transformers will have a month to be pirated before that release date given that its not a same-day release worldwide then I think it could really sufer at the box office outside of the US. There's been a lot of talk about Transformers breaking records but when you consider piracy and put it head to head against the Simpsons, there's only gonna be one winner and that's the guys in yellow...and no I'm not talking about Bumblebee.

Judging from this interview, it was the fact that he had to audition for a role he DEFINED. That would be like Spielberg auditioning Harrison Ford for the new Indiana Jones movie, with the lame excuse, "I just wanna see if you can still do it!" That's what he was annoyed about. I still want to know why Frank Welker can't be Megatron. Does it have to be a big name celeb to get attention? It's bullshit he is not doing the voice. Agent Smith better have dug deep to get the voice right for this. I just imagine him sounding like peewee herman at this point. I might even walk out of the movie if the voice is not right for Megatron which I have never done. I don't care where the story goes or how the robots look but the voices were really key for me. I might have to upgrade my computer to play the video game since it has Frank Welker. I may even get a PS3/Xbox 360 just because of TF.

well welker's voice isnt what it used to be.i watched the video interview with him and cullen for the videogame,and he didnt sound at all like megatron.unfortunately his voice has aged very much,while cullen's is still solid. as far as weaving is concerned,he is a great actor and i am sure he' ll make a great megatron.the problem is that he is on the film for 20min only...

It took me a while as a kid to realize Optimus and Ironhide were voiced by the same guy. Cullen not only played one of the best fictional leaders but he also played one of the best second-in-commands ever! I cried as much over his death as Optimus' in the TRANSFORMERS MOVIE.

TF looks to be a more kiddie War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise), and that movie doesn't touch Spiderman. The negative vibe for TF is all over, and it wasn't as massively appealing as Spiderman (or Pirates 3) to begin with. Godzilla is a more mainstream franchise than TF, with tons of hype, and it only made $136 million ($166 million with inflation). TF has done everything possible to alienate everybody, from nerds to casual TF fans. So explain how TF will "own" Spiderman and Pirates 3.

Because it is a live-action movie about Transformers. Because The Peter OMFG Cullen will be voicing the Optimus Prime. Because they actually are going to use the transformation sound from the cartoon series. Because the transformations are SO out-of-this-world! Because I would watch this movie if it were only for the moment when Prime transforms for the first time and speaks. Other than that, its GIANT ****** ROBOTS SMASHING THINGS UP! And I somehow think this movie will succeed in bringing it to the big screen. Happy? I didn't think so. ^_^
