Watched it since it first started and frankly.. it does blow. Sorkin couldn't write comedy to save his life and while everyday being a life or death drama was fitting for something like The West Wing... its absolute horseshit here. They can't write sketch comedy so Sorkin writes what he knows(political stories) and its sorely out of place here. From guys taking hostages on the news to a cast members brother getting abducted in Iraq. Just bleh. I watch to see a show about Studio 60.. not to watch a rehash commentary of the news.

you really don't know what you're talking about. Sorkin doesn't know how to write comedy? Let's say for conversation sake that Studio 60 has never had a good joke (which I disagree with). It wouldn't matter. The show is a drama. Watch Sorkin's 53 episodes of Sports Night though, a show written as a comedy, and then tell me he still doesn't know how to write humor. There is, guaranteed, something in that show that would make you laugh. By the way, the huge progress in such little time in this campaign is wonderful.

Every once in awhile you get smacked in the face with stupidity so utterly stupid that you can't help but ask for more. I don't get why these people need their tv shows so damn bad. It got cancelled, deal with it. These studio execs/producers are caving to these ridiculous requests to "save our beloved shows" when they should be contributing to their communities, not sitting on their asses watching commercials disguised as television programming. They should send a shitload of red bouncy balls (to represent the rojo planet) or better yet, murder a million clowns and hack off their noses (again, red, ball type object). I remember when we tried to save "ALF" from going off the air and we sent in a pallet of kittens. All we got in response was a form letter stating that all of our baby cats had been euthanized. We cried for seconds and then watched something else!!!! Oh, and fuck TIVO!!!!!

I think people don't want their last image of Veronica be of her crying in the rain, thinking her dad will hate her forever because it's HER fault he can't be sheriff again. If a mini-series can be produced where she vindicates herself over mean ol' Neptune, her dad forgives her because he was actually happy he lost, and Logan and her friends also decide to leave town, then fans will let the show go....and have a peak at her future--with the CIA. I think an eight-week miniseries should do it.

When you come in with a show that claims to do right everything that SNL and other sketch shows do wrong while providing a behind-the-scenes look... it helps to actually a) be funny and b) not fall back on your political hashish. Sorkin failed on both accounts and that is why Studio 60 failed as a product. Its tough to say.. I'm as big a Sorkin fan as the next guy.. but I got let down bad. Shoulda been more akin to Sports Night than The West Wing. They had a fabulous cast and lots of potential, but it felt too much like they were just trying to coat TWW in Hollywood goo. Shoulda been more with the funny and less with the political. Then if they had had a small few of episodes that focused on political issues as the impetus of skits, it woulda been much more effective. It should've been a much more biting satire of the network studio system filtered through the fun and light touch of Sports Night. That would've gotten it a lot more fans and kept it on much longer.

...though it looks like it's going to be. Sure, it was kind of amusing once, but to see this become 'the thing to do' upon tv show cancellation now just feels all kinds of wrong to me. I mean I'm no hippie, and I know how much it sucks when your fave tv show gets the axe, but all this effort and all this money spent and food wasted in a (likely) vain attempt to encourage the production of more corporate tv product, while more than three quarters of a billion people go hungry each and every day, well, like I say, it just seems all kind of wrong to me. And worse, most of these self same 'motivated' people have complete apathy about that particular fact and that particular problem. It really is a "as long as I got mine" world, isn't it? Depresses the fuck out of me personally, but such is life I guess. Anyway, carry on...

...don't understand the impulse behind it really, but I remember when I was a wee lad and they canceled Kolchak. I was sad for weeks. And CBS sent the nuts to shelters, so some folks are getting food out of it. Don't know about the candy bars, as nutritionally they're probably not in the same league as nuts. Maybe someone will cancel a show where sending steaks is appropriate. If I was homeless I would be rooting for that. But this seems like a relatively healthy way for people who liked a show to make their opinion known, and work together with some sort of sense of community, and that alone is a positive in a world that could use more of it. Would it be nice if there was more of this done for bigger and more profound causes? Sure. But better it be done for small and inconsequential ones than not at all. As for the shows, I liked them both some. I'll probably watch Jericho now that it's been exhumed, and if Veronica Mars ends up being reanimated in some form I'll probably give it a try. But I don't think I would have spent much time personally grieving their passing. That said, it sure would have been nice back in 70-whatever if a bunch of people had sent manual typewriters in to ABC to get Kolchak back on the air. Would have made one seven year old an awful lot happier. Good luck, folks.

On the iTunes main page as well as the TV page, iTunes has a list of the top 10 best selling episodes and season passes. From there you can click a link that goes to a list of the top 100 of each. iTunes doesn't say what the list repersents (last day, week, month) but it is rumored that it reflectes the most bought items of the last 24 hours updated hourly. So if there is a mass by an episode of Veronica Mars day, it should be the 12th or 13th so it hopefully hits #1 before the 15th.

I'd be open to them coming back if only because of my love for the first two seasons and my hope that they'd make it better than the third...but in no way do I see the ratings improving whatsoever. If people really want to save their favorite shows, watch them when they air on tv. This is how networks make money. Itunes is a good tool, but probably less than 200,000 people purchase an episode. It costs roughly that much or more to make the episode. Not much money is made, so what it when it first airs.

I'm kinda torn on whether I want VM back. I loved the first two seasons for the quality stories, the noir-style mysteries, and the background of social strife. Then they went to college and the CW ripped it all away. Hearst was boring, and what conflict there was was cliched at best. The lack of any focus on the characters we had come to love really hurt the shows quality. So were it to come back as season 3 style VM-Lite, or the FBI "The Inside" redux, I don't know how interested I'd be. I wish it could have made a difference if everyone here had gotten their friends to watch, but quite frankly, it wouldn't have mattered. I don't know any Neilsen families, and certainly their ranks do not include many apartment-dwelling 20-somethings like myself. So if sending a candy bar means that the network will realise I watch, I'm all for it. I never could get into Jericho, but I certainly respect that some people loved it, and that it did not deserve cancellation. And even though I don't Friday Night Lights, you wouldn't have to put a gun to my head to get me to watch it, which is more than I can say for most network tv.

Now there are plenty of reasons to believe that this trick won't work twice in the same summer, especially with the ratings for this show and the dying down of the critical buzz during its last season. But to say CBS renewed Jericho because of the publicity, which was caused by the thing you say didn't matter is just...well, not very smart. Really. I count myself as a VM fan, but it had more than a fair shot -- 3 full years with pitiful ratings. The FBI thing could be entertaining, but there's always the chance it could suck and have little of the charm with a much different cast. If anything, I'd rather they just give it another 4-6 eps, with a mini arc and a fitting finale that the dumbass Rob Thomas was too stupid or stubborn to write for what will probably be the last episode, that of S3.

Bear with me. They say VM has 2 million fans. If 2 million people went to a warners/veronica mars website and paid $20 upfront, the network would have $40 million to produce an entire season of VM. When the episodes are completed, they're released via DL to the initial buyers. Then the episode a week later is put on iTunes at the normal $1.99 an episode. If they can't collect $20 for 20 episodes from 2 million people, then the show slips away. This could be a paradigm shift. Establish a show and then just pre-sell the show to viewers - bypassing network TV. I've spent well over $200 giving away season 1 and seaosn 2 VM boxsets the past few years. Sending in $40 for myself and my fiancee seems like a SMALL price to pay. We tivo about 5 shows total and if I had my choice of paying $100 a year for those 5 shows or 1000 a year for cable/satellite...the choice is easy. If VM's fans are serious, then $20 for another season is no big deal...

to round up your fellow VM fans and set up a fund for Veronica Mars for about $10 per person per month. If you have a million or more people, then the network will not worry about all the ad revenue they're losing out on when they keep rarely viewed shows like Veronica Mars on the air. I am sure you realize that these shows are on the air because someone or many someones are paying lots of money for advertising their products and services during those time slots. Networks are very keen on making lots of money, and the more popular a show is, the more they can charge for the privilege of advertising during that show. So if you REALLY want a show to remain on the air, subsidize it! Not with Mars bars or other gimmicky fan tantrums. Give the studios what they want - money.

I think it's a good idea. It'd also be a clear indication of when a show had gone downhill, because if the fans stopped paying money for it, something would clearly be wrong with the show. It would also demonstrate which shows are actually good vs. thought to be good, because they're popular. For example, when the last episode of Friends aired, if you just happened to come across it on TV, you might watch it out of curiosity, however, if you had to pay 5 dollars to watch it, you wouldn't, and then the show may not air.

Jericho was canceled by CBS. No mention of any wrap-up, any continuance, any conclusion. The fans of the show staged a huge drive to save the show. CBS tried to fob them off with vague promises of a wrapping up of the show in some form. The fans of the show continued to demonstrate their support of it, actually ratcheting up the intensity of the campaign. CBS decided to give the show another chance. Or, as YOU said yourself, they liked the publicity. Hey, there wouldn't have been any publicity to speak of if not for the campaign the fans of Jericho staged to save the show. We're talking about a simple idea that is now possible: Pre-pay for a year of a show. If the production budget on a 1 hour TV show is $2 million an episode then a producer (not a network) needs at least $44 million guaranteed to schedule the show for production. Essentially, the producer makes a show Show X available for pre-pay. At $20 per person, you'd need around 2.2 million people to visit a site and provide a paypal/credit card. Give them 60 days to collect it all. If the money isn't fully collected by then, the site repays everyone. If the number is met, the show goes into production. Eventually, all the contributors get a link to download each episode (the episodes will go on iTunes too so others can download them at $2.00 an episode too). Why is this such an awful idea?
