Like those songs in commercials that sound almost like a song you know, but not quite because they couldn't get the rights to the actual song. It should have been done like with a full orchestra. That track was just pure laziness. Aside from the fact that...
by King_Knut

12:45:30 PM
...the whole "electrock" filmscore craze was tired before it even began, this has to be one of the most funereal, mechanical dirges of a tune I have ever heard. Much more so that it's attached to a slam-bang actioner. Radiohead have written a buttload of songs that would be fackin' perfect for a more serious take on Transformers. For example, the haunting "Everything In It's Right Place" might go well over the first Autobot on Earth trying to make sense of his surroundings, Polyethylene Pt II would be a kick-ass closer for the film. Palo Alto, The National Anthem, Optimistic, Ripcord: all would be fantastically suited to a Transformers movie. This tune, on the ohter hand... I could make a more appealing tune teabagging my girlfriend's Shatner and recording the sound as my balls plop in and out of her gaping rusty sheriff's badge.
Autobots are here to save our souls???
by Angelus_420
Jun 7th, 2007
12:45:38 PM
I thought it was ok at the beginning but the standard Linkin Park lyrics just made the whole song absolutely suck. From the whole save our souls thing to the naming off the autobots was really weak. If Bay wanted a popular band to perform the song it should have gone to a band that isn't a one trick pony.

nice work. thanks for the explanation.

now although I didn't get mad when prime had flames or bumblebee was silent or any of the other 1000 different things bay has changed I did get a bit miffed when I learned that they won't be carrying any weapons; ie: all weapons are stored within their body parts.

I'm pretty sure I got that right and I'm pretty sure that sucks. as a kid in the early to mid 80s when the transformers were an expensive, die-cast metal toy from hasbro the B-E-S-T part about them was their weapons. HUGE guns. HUGE swords. HUGE missles. it made them what they were.

So in hearing weapons are internal and it will only be punching and kicking I must say I'm highly disappointed...therefore...

The mix is amateur, the drums are bad samples, and it is not mastered.. It sounds like a fanboy whipped it up in his home studio with his buddies in a band. Don't get me wrong, there is some skill shown there - it's not a hack job - but as a working sound engineer I can tell you that no one with the production skills to work on this big of a project would turn out something that sounds like that. It's not nearly polished enough.

Picking up and using terms and acronyms created by talkbackers makes you anything but "hip" and far from "relevant". TINOs want to be movie producers and create a live-action Transformers movie with nothing but talking robots with 90 min. of constant CGI and expect studios to shell out the 5 billion it will cost to make this movie.

By that way, I am excited about most things about this movie and think the things I've seen so far are really neat. Here, I am called a "plant". "Haters" would be those individuals that think the summer movies should be populated with compelling dramas that are rated "R" and make them think deep about their life and society in general and contain no CGI or appeal in any way to women or childeren.

Welcome to hell.

by MegaJoshX
Jun 7th, 2007
01:19:48 PM
In the shadows, you see a Linkin Park cover band. You jump with surprise as the door behind you shuts and locks. An unseen figure knocks you down and you lose consciousness. When you awake, you find that you have been bound and gagged. Your struggling is pointless...mobility a memory. The floor is dirty and covered with splotchy stains that you instinctively know originated from fluids once housed inside the human body. You frantically scan your surroundings and you can see that there's a platform above you, as if the room was set up to be some neo-urban gladiatorial arena. There's a figure seated in a chair, their top half obscured from view. With horror, you realize two things: Terrible acts have occurred here. The Linking Park Cover Band is on the same level that you are...and they're smiling. As they approach, you see that the Linkin Park Cover Band has tightly wrapped their cocks in 10 Base T Cable. Hanging roughly off the tip of each of their blood-filled, grossly abhorrent members is a bladed vocoder...sharp-side out. In abject fear, you look to the figure above - the light has shifted, and you can now see that the person seated is none other than Michael Bay. He's eating a money sandwich with golden bread. You see Michael Bay laugh maniacally as the Linkin Park Cover Band takes turns fucking you in the ear. Then you die and no one ever remembers who you are and every puppy in the world explodes. That's what the Transformers Theme Song from the new movie sounds like.

Haven't bothered to read the full thread to see if anybody pegged the artist. 100% sure it's not LP. Neither of the voices sound like Mike Shinoda or Chester Bennington.

I think that some people are confused because it sounds vaguely like LP's "Points of Authority" track, which probably would've fit with this soundtrack if this song's any indicator.

Not a bad ditty on the whole. I certainly could've listened to a full 3:30 of that if they added some more lyrics. It's good in a retro geek sorta way, kinda like the Ramones' cover of the Spider-Man TV theme.

because this song has always been absolutely retarded. It completely dates the cartoon. I could see them doing a split screen thing during the credits where the video matches the lyrics.. like when they do that roll call thing.. they will show optimus, bumblebee, etc. My hypothesis is further proven by the fact that its so short.. my guess is this song will immediately be followed by the instrumental soundtrack.

They want the same style, but without having to pay Linkin Park a small fortune. I wouldn't be surprised if this is just some local act somewhere who made it. The writing is horrid, the recording is horrid and it just sucks overall. FYI I am a touring/recording musician so I'm not just flapping my gums on a subject that I'm unfamiliar with. lol

That genra, this song and anyone who makes or is a fan of any of this garbage belongs in the most boring part of purgatory. Fred Durst, Linkin Park, Incubus, Korn and the rest of the "Heavy Cookie Monster meets worst white rap ever" type bands are the reason people now asociate the once respectable term "Rap-Rock" with the terms Wigger-Redneck, Goth-Metal, White-Jihad and Overdoseing Midgits. On the same note, it has also made a mockory of the term "Heavy-Metal". The low tuning of the rythem Guitar does not make up for, hippyesque drum fills (incubus), girly lyrics (Linkin Park), Same Power chords over and over (all of the above). I think we can all make special exceptions for Tool, System of a Down and Rage Againt the Machine. Outside of those guys Hacks.

As for Ganymede, God bless him but he's an island unto himself. I don't consider "This movie is going to rock!!! Suck it haterz!!!" a reasonable way to temper the raging debate over this film. I like to think my approach has been a little more reasoned.

Why is this link the latest link that has anything to do with Transformers? What about this little ditty that has been up for days at Superherohype?: ...http://tinyurl.com/2l9b25.. . This is the one that pissed me off, and I can't help but think there are some underlying reasons why this wasn't posted here. It is Bay, pretty much spitting in the fans' faces. I actually have been flipping back and forth on the issue of this whole contraversy about how they look and the flames and all that crap. I for one was pretty forgiving over the overall look of the characters, realizing that things would change, and that was fine with me, but when I first saw the falmes on Optimus, it just irked me.And the lame reasons WHY irked me more, the whole "it helps to define his parts" crap...and then we get this, Micheal Bay himself saying, "I just wanted flames"...That's utterly rediculous...Optimus DOES NOT NEED FLAMES...he is cool because he is NOT over the top, he is not LOOKING to look cool, he was a big RED Truck with blue underpinings, he was the oldschool LEADER..and that is why he LOOKED cool, cause his design was simple yet strong. No need for "cool" flames or other trinkets other WANNABES put on themselves to LOOK cool, he just WAS COOL. This is crazy, I so shouldn't care about this, BUT when he just goes, well I put flames on him cause I wanted to , after ALLLLLLL the lambasting he got for it, after ALLL the cries to change it , he did it for himself. Next time , don't trot out a full sized flat nosed truck that was RED at the comic con, DONT drag your writers out onto the net professing to love the G1 characters and to be the "voice" of the fans and then completely not listen to what we have to say. This whole thing is their own doing...If they had just stated that this aint gonna be what you grew up with, then it could have been far better accepted, but they really did insult us. And what's worse is I REALLY want to see this, but it's gonna kill me to pay to see big flaming Opty. ARRGGHHH!!!

Who suggested they should have got Paul Oakenfold to do it, he did the theme to the last Transformers cartoon series. It was, if anything, even fucking worse than this. Which is amazingly difficult. He phoned it in, big style. Not that this makes this anything other than embarrassing. And missing out the name of one Autobot so you can reuse the song on the sequel doesn't signpost anything. It's lame in a way that is totally fitting for this lame film.

Yes, there isn't much to work with but you know they could have just had someone slightly talented create an orchestral score based on the original theme that would have probable sounded billions of time better or "Not Lame" as it were.

All You fanboys can complain and bitch and Moan all you FUCKING want to but guess what bitches...YOU HAD YOUR FUCKING CHANCE TO MAKE SOMETHING OF YOUR LIVES AND BECOME FILMMAKERS LONG AGO! I have no doubt that every tranformers fan has some "vision" of what they think the "PERFECT" Tranformers movie would be...But instead of doing something about it all you can do is hate on someone else who actually found their balls and followed their dreams. Micheal Bay is a Great Filmmaker anyone who disagrees can suck on Steven Spielbergs' balls because he has faith in Bay and So do I. Have any of you negative fucks even watched those cartoons lately? THey were ridiculously cheesy especially the cartoon movie. It's big fucking robots thrashing shit, not big fucking robots crying at a group therapy session. I second that it should have been power metal. Real fucking hard and fast. With lots of explosions.

I'm beyond thinking about whether this movie will be good or bad or whatever, it's just gonna be what it's gonna be and I'll end up watching it. This is definitely more of a "credits" song than an intro theme. Too fucking slow and depressing. It's the "wind-down" song after you just saw two hours of shit blowing up.

Oh, and the OG TF Movie theme may have been cheesy, but it was pitch perfect for the tone of the movie. Unless I have some serious misconceptions about the type of film Bay is making, this decidedly does not.

or is it 4th time posting? I don't remember. I only signed up at AICN to support the handful of, long time posters, calling the film on all of it's legitimate problems. That being said, I listened to the song before reading even one post. It got my heart going. Yeah, in an 80's nostalgic kind of way. Is it cheesy? Yes. Does it pay homage to the original theme song? Definitely! It's not bad. Sure the lyrics are a little cheeseball but, there is a definite sense of respect for the Transformers of the 80's. On another note, I was pretty pleased with the Optimus/Bonecrusher clip from the other day. You know, I can live with (not forgive... but live with) flames on Optimus and Megatron and Starscream looking unbelievably unrecognizable if and I mean a big IF they get the characterizations right. Speaking of that, do we even know who's voicing Starscream yet? There was an article on Dark Horizons about them asking Howard Stern to voice Soundwave. I wouldn't be surprised if they got someone pretty good for Starscream. Wow! Could it be possible that this movie, miraculously, has come together to be something decent? At this point all I'm asking for is something along the lines of the original X-men. It doesn't have to be spectacular. Just get the characters right. I think I can live with everything else and wait for a killer sequal.

You've got a bunch of generic now bands mixed with three has been bands for the soundtrack, not quality stuff, assuming the way most soundtracks are only about a third of it is in the actual movie. So you can point to one actor that 13 year old girls and Spielberg seem to have a mean one for ok, great, and everything I've read from people who've read the script and the parts of it that I've seen equals badly written. And yes I have heard some of the music, including the super generic Goo Goo Dolls ballad so yeah I have heard some of the tunes and they are generic at best thank you very much.

SP aren't hasbeens. They're one of the most famous and influential rock bands in history, and the material I've heard from the new album is a tremendous return to form. What exactly is a "generic now band?" Everyone has to start somewhere, and the music that's been coming out of the indie world the past 5 years or so is outstanding and shows us how pitiful most of the crap from the 90s really was. This is a very 60s- and early 80s-like time for rock music.

every project Billy has done since has flopped huge, and James Iha won't have any of it, so he get's Zwan back togethre calls it SP and figures he will get money out of it, it's not an artistic point of view it's all money and that does not make for good music/art. And furthermore if your idea of indie music is a bunch of shitty emo/screamo bands then you are extreamly narrow minded. There are much better examples of the indie music world all over the place that are heads and shoulders abouve anything on this soundtrack, Fantomas, Dillinger Escape Plan, Neurosis, MF Doom, Oh No!, Neko Case, Cat Power, Ween, Flaming Lips, Sleater Kinney, The Halo Benders, Negativland, The Adicts, John Zorn, Secret Chiefs 3, Isis, Dalek, Mojo Nixon, The Melvins, I can go on and on and on forever rattling off bands that are heads and shoulders better then this generic MTV pap!

Basically he said he put the flames on cause he simply wanted to. And in response to those concerned about their childhood icons being crushed, he simply says the cartoon is old and dated.

WTF? If he has such little respect for the durability of the old cartoon, why did he make a Transformers movie? And even the NEW TF cartoons have been able to keep the general TF art style while not looking dated at all.

And no one has topped Jakes Nel's idea that Bay sing the theme himself ("write the feem toon, sing the feem toon..."). Good work, Jakes Nel, that was funny as hell. Trouble is, by that process of association that happens when your brain skips from one thing to another, I now have the theme to The Fall Guy stuck in my head. One, two, three, four:

"Well, I'm not the kind to kiss and tell, but ah've been seen with Farraaaaaah!"

Seems like the easy, obvious way to do a modern "isn't this cool" cover of the song. I'm just hoping the music in the actual movie includes some orchestral, John Williams-esque variations on the old theme, and this rap crap is kept 'til the credits. There's really no excuse for not somehow having that theme as incidental music in the flick. Other than the usual "creative" inability to not fiddle with everything.

I haven't even bothered listening to this, and if I had it wouldn't put me off watching the film. Let's be honest - who really gives a shit about film soundtracks for summer films these days anyway? They're all full of nu-metal shite which makes me want to burst my own ear-drums with a rusty knitting needle. However bad this is, lyrically it can't be much worse than that horrid piece of dog-toffee by Nickelback of the Spider-Man OST. I'm sorry, but all those who are saying/whining that they won't watch the film because this song is crap, were probably never gonna watch it in the first instance; also, saying that makes you sound like petulant children stamping your feet and crossing yours arms - which I suspect many of you are. Let's face it; TF isn't going to be a fucking musical is it? Chances are, if this song IS in the film we'll only hear a background snippet, or it'll be over the end credits - which won't matter, because the majority of people will be leaving. Fucking catch yourselves on you overly-dramatic idiots.

I think bongo123's comments are more aimed at the immature adolescents on here who are deciding not to see the film on the basis of a song which they probably won't even notice in the film (if it's there at all). I mean, as I said, I hate the Nickelback song from Spider-Man, but I can't ever remember actually hearing it during the film, so my mild enjoyment of Spider-Man was in no way impeded. Even if this song IS in the film, as I said it will only be an incidental snippet. It's not like the TF's are just going to stop mid-battle while the entire song is played from start to finish at top volume, then just carry on fighting. Fucking jesus...

Im pretty sure that little clip from the myspace isnt even giving a proper idea of how the song is going to sound in the end, like there has to be guitar in it, its gonna sound a bit rocking for sure, aleast if you go by the style of their other tunes

who think bands they listen to are hardcore shit is Mayhem, nothing like a death metal band that has actually put their money where their mouth is on their image haha. Messi hit me up on myspace and I'll get with ya about sending you those bungle demos I've got all of em, it goes from their early death metal days to right before the first album comes out. myspace.com/tromaboy

Aren't YOU the one trolling on a TFs talkback, Messi? What are you trying to prove anyway? Are you a Neorosis plant?

And Patton would slap me first 'cause I LOOOOOVE WOLFMOTHER!

I don't get people who take themselves so seriously and spend a good portion of their time trying to convince people to be miserable like them. They're opinions, junior. I don't filter my options through the brotherhood that lives in the cave. Why should I give two shits what Mike Patton thinks of my opinions? I like his music. I might not let him pick out drapes for my house. Thank goodness I don't have to sign a 100% agreement document to by a Fantomas album. Holy crap, you're a troll!

I have become aware that the version posted on this page is not MuteMath's and that their actual version sounds cooler, though still not amazing. I am not sure who the version posted here is. It does sound a lot like Linkin Park. So, I take it all back. I don't know stuff.

So far neither of you have managed to string any kind of sentence together which justifies the massive superiority complex you seem to both share. TOB, I think you'd be hard pushed to destroy a retarded six-year old in an intellectual debate. Messi, what gives you the right to comment on and/or insult anyone because of their musical preferences? I'm guessing you are one of these ridiculously snobby twats who listens to bands no-one has ever heard of, until they become popular - just so you can then make yourself feel superior by saying you liked them first and now you think they've 'lost it'.

Oy, this site has really fallen off, hasn't it? This is not Linkin Park. It's a Linkin Park wannabe FAN attempt at the theme. Yes, Mutemath is doing the theme for the soundtrack. It can be found at the band's myspace (http://www.myspace.com/mutema th). P.S. No one can top LION's Transformers theme. End of story.

Where's the energy? It sounds so disinterested with itself. Breathy lyrics with lotsa percussion and synth. Sounds like something a music major started whipping up on his iMac during a rainy Sunday and eventually lost interest in. The Mortal Kombat theme by Utah Saints was cheesy but at least it had a pulse. This Mutemath tune sounds like something that should play after a question is asked on a gameshow like Jeopardy.
