Does anybody really want this? I loved the show as a kid, but isn't this going to far? Are we going to get Brave-Starr: The Movie and a Silverhawks feature as well? How about MASK? Hell, let's remake every marginal 80's cartoon into a movie.

Thus, the next step is G.I. Joe, and Smurfs. Imagine, Pixar makes Smurfs, and we all go to see it on shrooms. it'd be the greatest movie experience since Phoebe Cates opened her bikini.

Pre voyage Thundercats is definatly an interesting premise, and hopefully ends with their first run in with Mum-ra and the mutants. Let's see how this shapes up.

Snoop Dogg for Lion O is inspired. Always thought Sam Jackson should beef up and be the blackest panthro motherfucker in the galaxy. "Thundercats are loose motherfuckers". Like to see Jolie as Cheetara, and the invisible tiger dude should be offered to Brad Pitt. Unlikely I know. WhileyKit should be played by fucking Dakota Fanning, cos shes getting lazy these days. JAGA should be Clint Eastwood, or an old CG James Stewart. Slithe man... that gotta be Philip Seymour Hoffman (gotta see past the fatness in future). Jackalman has to be Jim Carey, and Monkey-dude should be some mono-sylabic buffoon, such as Will Ferile, ahem sorry Ferrell. Which leaves one key cast member..... MUM-RA! The badass crazy flying fuckers gotta be mostly CG, but the decripid old git has gotta be played by Chow Yun Fat.... now hows that for an interesting casting idea. Not sure if it'd work though. Hope this new script has the EXODUS story in it, and isn't a coming of age thing for Lion O... how boring. It should be action action action. And its gotta include the space battle that the mutants and the thundercats have on their way to third earth, when Jaga croaks. And make sure Sam Jackson builds a faithful thundertank... don't go 'tumblerising' it, like Morgan Freeman did in Batman Begins. That guy took re-imagining too far. Thundercats lair has to be IDENTICAL to the TV series. AND KEEP BILL PAXTON AWAY FROM THIS. Thunderbirds was a missed opportunity. THUNDERCATS ARE ON THE MOVE, THUNDERCATS ARE LOOSE!!!!!!!!! FEEL THE MAGIC HEAR THE ROAR MOTHERFUCKERS!! Man, I love Thundercats. I hope Hollywood leaves it well alone.

As much as i love thundercats i dont think it should get a movie.Do you realy think warners studio execs will let a thundercats live action film be EXACTLY like the cartoon with no changes? Heck no sir. They'll have it watered down and changed thinking that "middle america wont understand a movie about catpeople" or some other dumb reason.Mark my words, theyll have a token pretty boy human character in there faster than you can say "studios know nothing". So please , let this one be . They should just make a thundercats game instead , it will cost less to produce and turn in more of a profit. Which is nice.

Maybe Im wrong, but I thought strong rumors of this was floating around a lil while ago that a deal was going to be made..Me personally would like to see Robotech/ Marcross...Make a 3 picture arch ala LOTR and later on give me the Invid Invasion. Wasnt that annouced like a year ago, with Pharrel of the Neptunes / N.E.R.D as one of the Ex. Producers..Not for sure how that will turn out, think changes need to be made or it can come out a little cheezy, at the very least I say make it more like it's Japaneese counterpart which was more violent.

is was 5 parts, one whole week of awesomeness, although they never played them in order by the time i was watching it. and it was about how lion-o had to beat all the other thundercats at what they were best at to truly become their leader. and it ruled.

whoever dropped the bomb that this was a children's cartoon with sexual imagery that is very easy to extrapolate, congratulations, i hope the published expose is around the corner.

for the record i would also like to express the opinion that this movie will probably suck.

seriously tho - if that is what can be done w/ NO budget or real FX, a TC movie may not suck - but it'll definately depend on the script.

And TC can work, esp for an "older" (pre-teen up) audience - the "sequel" comics released by...image(?) about 2 yrs ago did well, and nicely matured the franchise.

And Voltron's been in active pre-pro for over a year (animated). I think TC would do better as a CGI, a la TMNT or Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets. Some cartoons just can't be translated well to the "physical" world.

if they kept the storyline close to the cartoon, but explained rhe origin of the names as some sort of Planet of the Apes deal. Maybe a intergalactic Noahs Ark, and over time they evolved.

I wouldn't even be opposed to the Cats being pets/servants of some intergalactic type warlord and they escape, and the names were basically given to them. Jaga sets them free and they go off looking for the eye of Thundara. Hell, Jaga doesn't even need to be a cat.

Slythe and co. are bounty hunters for said warlord, and the whole crash happens, and they run into Mum-Ra, shit happens, soon and so forth.

Just as long as it's not set in modern day, I'll gladly accept any tinkering of the plotline.

It gives the filmmakers more leeway with the characters and story to do something new without a million sweaty fan-boys screaming "TINO! TINO!". Oh yeah, and what's with you nitwits who blast Hollywood for not having any original ideas out of one side of your mouths and then scream bloody murder out the other side when original ideas are incorporated into pre-existing properties?

You ever see him on the Tonight Show? It's always the same. Jay coaxes him into telling a story from his youth and the whole time he'll be looking at the audience with a gigantic grin as if theirs one hell of a punchline coming up, and everytime Jay asks him a question he'd turn and stare at him with that big ass grin for like a minute or so, he'd do this several times during the interview, and you could see Jay always tries to rush him along, but he can never take the hint, and the audience is clearly getting restless, and when he finally reaches the "punchline" he bombs, and he's the only one that's laughing. Then Leno immediately throws it to the clip. The same thing happens evertime. Tis awkward.

Masters of the Universe was a univeral bomb. They sure screwed up X-Men but people seem to love the crap. I mean once they took away Wolverine's costume they ruined the movies. Why do they think superheroes have costumes in the first place? Those black costumes were chump costumes. Fuck that, remake X-men. And put a tough guy as Wolverine. If you wanted a picture perfect Wolvie, you'd have to cast a wrestler. Also, Wolvie always looked better without the mask. It's the hair that makes tha haracter, not the claws. And what bugged me is Jackman's do looked awesome up until midway through the first film, then after that, when they tried to style it up and make it more like the comic, it became ridiculous looking.

Honestly, the X-suits weren't all that bad. I do wish Cyclops had rocked the full skull cap suit, but the outfits were the least of the films problems.

Marvel comic movies made money like crazy even if they screwed them up. Next thing is to make the best 80's cartoons. They seem to be doing a much better job on Transformers. Next, Voltron and Thundercats get my vote.

I was a fan of the show as a kid (before I grew up and realized how TC,Silverhawks and Voltron were anime) and I want this to work with out having to be cgi or animated but cat people? I bet money some movie studio executive is saying "but do they have to be cats? I mean it can be a metaphor, they can have cat like skills but not actually be cats.We can't market cat's " We might be in for trouble folks. I've read the script review for GI Joe online at latino review and it sucks ass. We have to have a faithful adaption of these materials or nothing at all. THINK SIN CITY.

MASK

Jun 6th, 2007
12:03:46 PM
I don´t understand why they havent made a MASK movie yet. It´s probably the only 80`s cartoon that would make sense on the big screen. It should have been considered even before Transformers (which will suck because it focuses on the humans instead of the Cybertronians). MASK focused on actual humans from present day Earth and had shit that transformed. I could never see Thundercats more than a blatant rip off of Masters of the Universe- which was only cool in the little comic books that came with the action figures in the beginning- then came the stupid, very badly drawn, gay ass cartoon having He-Man transform into a prince and fucking Orco spinning around like a turd in a toilet. They made a reboot which I heard was actually decent- never sat down to see it- why not make a movie of that? Someone said that the cast for Thundercats should be all black...well who knows... they´ll definitely all have to be super gay to dress up as cats.

ORIGINALLY POSTED BY SHERMDOG, SUBJECT: I'm late to the party. Here's my T-cat casting anyways. by Shermdawg Jan 14th, 2007 02:46:57 AM

Jaga - John Glover

Lion-O - Ben Stiller Ok, yes, The Rock would look cool as Lion-O, but thats waaay too easy, and tired if ya ask me. I thought, even as a kid, that Lion-O was a total cornball. Ya need someone who could play that. Stiller even freaking looks like him in the face, but they'd have to do some LOTR Gandolf camera tricks, because Ben's a bit short. Casting Stiller would be the best WTF casting that payed off in a fanboy flick since Keaton in Batman.

Panthro - Laurence Fishburne

Cheetara - Uma Thurman (Purrr-fect casting)

Tigra- Not sure, but regardless of the casting, he has to be Cheetara's lover.

Snarf - Jack Blacks face on a cgi body. Hell, rework the character just a tad, to make him less annoying.

Wilykit & Wilykat - Don't give a shit.

Pumyra & Bengali - I'm not gonna bother casting, because for some damn reason, none of the new episodes past "the movie" were thrown into rotation in my market. The show still ran, but it was just repeats.

Lynxo - Terry O'Quinn (based on looks only)

Mumm-Ra - Gilbert Gottfried / WWE Superstar The Boogeyman

Slyyythe - Oliver Platt (DEAD FUCKING RINGER!!!)

Jackalman - Willem Dafoe

Monkian - Ron Perlman

Vultureman - John Malkavich

See boys we all casted this movie like six months ago! FOR SHAME!

"Or a trilogy of trilogies, to reflect the nine lives of cats. First we have the origin story, the Thundercats leaving their planet before it blows up, arriving on Third Earth, and pissing off Mumm-Ra. The Darker Second Act has Lion-O's five task initiation, but in a switcheroo from the cartoon, he gets all but defeated by Mumm-Ra. The third act involves many peripheral characters, like Hachi-Man and the mechanical pirate dudes, then descends into chaos when the Ewo-- I mean, Berbils are introduced. Eventually Lion-O finds the horn... of the unicorn... and peace is restored to Third Earth. The horn is, of course, sexually symbolic, the idea being that if we all just made love and not war, Third Earth would be a happier place. (*SPOILERS*) "

It's not just a rip off of He-Man, it also has elements of Star Wars (Lion-O, Jaga, Sword of Omens), Superman (last of their race crashing on an alien planet) and Flash Gordon and other serials. There is a lot of room to improve upon the original concept, there is also a lot of room to suck the life right out of it and make it less like mythology and more like say, a Michael Bay movie.

" My take on the Cat's Tale, to coin a phrase, is that Mumm-ra and his cronies were just pottering about Third Earth, minding their own business and building scary towers. Then these half-human half-feline creatures land on their planet and start making trouble. Oh, the cartoon tells us who's good and who's evil, but Mumm-ra was provoked and merely defending his territory. Therefore the subtext will be about how this propaganda paints the "perfect race" invading force as heroes and the ugly natives as villains, making it somewhat relevant to world events.

Also, there will be unicorns."

When I was really young I remember going into a video shop and seeing Escape from NewYork on video. Somehow I convinced myself that it was a live action version of Thundercats. Kurt Russel just looked kind of like Lion-O to me for some reason. My dad had to tel me I was wrong.

Anyway that is not a 'lost' opening, i remember seeing it loads of times as a kid, I think it might have been on the pilot or the straight to video feature length episode they released, Thundercats-Ho I think it was called.

Mathew Fox would make a good Lion-O. He could spend the whole film dening Mum-ra even exsits.

It kind of reminds me of LOST the way they land on a planet and we just get glimpses of an aincent past.

I honestly think a film could be something special.Plus because there is no real hardcore fan base people won't bitch about Snarfs eyes being the wrong color and shit.

soapbox. Third Earth is our Earth where all civilzation has been destroyed and the planet has recovered but civilzation remains in an arrested state. So we made the Bearbils (AI style) at some point in the past. Mumm-Ra (evading grave robbers?) rewoke from his slumber. He was entombed in ancient Egypt. King Arthur has been shown as being a member of Earth's past, or maybe was leftovers from The Last Unicorn, who knows? They never really explain any of it.

the Thundercats so "thundery"? When they say they belong to the light, do they belong to the thunder? Do they belong to the sound of the words we've both fallen under? Whatever we deny or embrace for worse or for better we belong, we belong we belong together...ahem-sorry for that, the 80's were coming back a little strong for me. But seriously...

well, come to think of it. white or black, they're still gonna paint him blue. or use prosthetics or i some kinda fur make up. really, with this movie, it's the new age of make up.. or not. But as for stan lee going to disney, i have so much respect for the man i'd considering watching anything he's behind. and if the movies are good, why not? i mean, frank miller never really had a huge mainstream audience (although what a comparison, couldnt be further apart), and who around the world really read that much hell boy? and frankly new movies come out every year that have totally original stories and characters and some become very succesful. pirates of the caribbean was based on a freaking ride!! if the movie is made well, i don't see why it shouldn't be seen despite the lack of a previous following in another format. glad you brought it up though, didn't know he went to disney. really? he did?

Hard R Thundercats synopsis - first 15 minutes
by Lamerz

Movie opens with Lion-O, bloody with several cuts and bruises, taking on 12 baddies, as one goes to stab him in the back, he jabs his sword back through the gut. Then promptly slices off another's head. He knocks another baddie out by kicking him in the face, cuts the arm off of another, and then finally cuts off another baddies legs off at the knees. They all pause, Lion-O says, "Who wants some more?" The other evil ones run off. "That's right, run, fuckers! HOOOOOOO!" Lion-O begins walking back toward his base. Cut to later that day, he arrives, and cleans up. There is a buzz on Lion-O's door, he opens it, and Cheetara awaits. They proceed to kiss intensely, disrobe (with female full frontal nudity) and cut to a full on sex scene ending with Cheetara satisfied.
I wonder if Lion-O will still have that fro goin on

He looks like a cross between Don King and Ronald McDonald. I don't see how they can re-create it without it looking REALLY cheesy. I just don't see how they can do this movie with the serious tone of the cartoon with live action people. They'll look soooo ridiculous trying to deliver straight lines looking like they do. Maybe if they just go all out campy with it, it'll work. Or maybe they'll surprise me. They should just make it all CGI.

The more you talk about it the more likely that is to happen. Just give me five more years to try and get it off the ground. Zelda has a lot of classic myth elements and just deals with pastoral vs. city and peasants and monsters, there's nothing special about it. It's basically a blank slate for them to do anything, just with name recognition. The temptation I think would be to be oddly faithful to the games when it is unnecessary. Mario Bros., now that I don't understand making into a movie. Plumbers and a turtle king. Video games? Sure.

But as a short film, not feature-length. Basically it would be a guy who wakes up in a racquetball court that's filled with the colored blocks. He has to fight his way out with a racquet and ball.

Castaway. In the first game he only talks to the old woman he buys potions from and that old dick who is everywhere. In the later games he does stop in towns but outside of one or two important people, he doesn't really talk to anyone about anything important. They're gonna have to have him talking to all sorts of people to make it interesting because it's not like they can give him a side kick during his fights or anything. He'll have to be alone most of the time. And to whoever said the Final Fantasy series is better than The Legend of Zelda series, well, I'm speechless. I guess it's a matter of taste but I believe you're in a VERY small minority on that one...

I like Zelda better than Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy

is convoluted. Zelda is just about a nice little elf boy that wants to save a princess.
Will Ferrell for Hefty Smurf.

Steve Carrell can be Brainy. Scarjo can be Smurfette. And Patrick Stewart can be Papa Smurf. We need this! You can make Gargamel the sympathetic character, where someone finds his diary of his long torture at the hands of his neighbors the Smurfs, finally ending in his mysterious disappearance. It can be like Blair Witch but with Smurfs!

shermdawg and anchorite were both part of the original thundercats casting thread WAY back in january. although they weren't around for long. the original subject was the "hannibal rising" talkback.

finally, superninja, I think the lead character in every final fantasy game is actually alot like link--young, girlish, and quiet. that could strife kid in FF7 never said a damn word to any body. and I played that game in excess of 255 hours--and not a single sentence out of his mouth!

Superman is not immortal, he is impervious to most things, but not to magic and Kryptonite. Superman is primarily a science hero, his powers are due to genetics, not to training or supernatural endowment.

FF involves convoluted stories, which I think would make it difficult to adapt for film. I know when you get involved in playing the game the more dense the better but not so for movies.
