He's on the record saying that the husband character was only in a few moments in his original script but the studio insisted he make him a constant character so as to have a male hero in addition to the chick. they wont keep things too close to the original source material. Hopeflly the main bad guy will only show up for the last 15 minutes of the movie. And said manin villain gets killed by Onimushas diminutive teenage sidekick (who also likes to fuck cats) they should also change the look of every character in the movie and have noone but the sidekick have any more than two lines. I think this movie shouldnt focus so much on Onimusha, but on how his diminutive teenage sidekick see's things. Oh and put some blue flames everywhere.

CONTRA was my favorite game as a kid, and honestly if they got the right director to expand on the story, it could be cool. Seriously, the first time I watched Brotherhood Of The Wolf, I could only think about how badass a Christophe Gans Castlevania film would be. That property woudl be a lot harder to fuck up than Silent Hill. (Not to say I think Gans fucked SH up; I just think he only got it about half-right. Pitch-perfect atmosphere and visuals, with some horrible plot choice. The witch-burning cult just pissed me off. Stick to the game, man.)

It only got one showing at our shit cinema , and I was enchanted by it .The monster was one of the most original things I've ever seen.Silent Hill was great too , but flawed.As already mentioned the monsters looked better on set , than how they finally looked in the movie {especially Red Pyramid}Gans comes across as a very keen and energetic , guy , who loves cinema ,he's perhaps a little undisciplined {Kung fu in Brotherhood , was a little o.t.t} but he obviously loves the genre , has a great visual style , and just needs a top notch script.As for the guy , who cant find Brotherhood o t w , on dvd ..I take it he must be posting from the USA , because in England , its easily avaliable.

Once again, this will be a visually stunning movie that ultimately fails. In my humble opinion, and this comes from first hand experience on his previous film, Gans has a genuine passion for his material, knows how to nail the visual, but doesn't have patience for actors and their process. If he takes the same approach this film it will produce the same result as Silent HIll.. guess we'll see in a couple years..

One documentary was in french and the other documentary started off but then shut down and DVD player kept cutting back to the option page or something. So I said to hell with it and watched the movie. The movie made absolultely no sense whatsoever. All I knew was that it was set in 17th century france. there is this woman being chased by something and she is killed by this unseen force. Soon it becomes more than one. I remember very little about BOTW. Beyond the fact that I didnt know what the hell was going on in the movie. It was entirely in french. I thought the film was an utter mess.

What the hell was wrong with Brotherhood of the Wolf? A nice paced action movie with some horror elements... Basically like Sherlock Holmes Hound of the Baskervilles. Monster dog killing people owned by some cult. He investigates and kicks ass. As fine a film as any I've seen with some great visuals and action! I can't think of one damn thing wrong with that movie... Was it the French language you didn't like? Honestly... And as for SIlent Hill. I loved it but I agree it kinda falls apart towards the end mainly because of that exposition scene... Although I believe there's a directors cut with many more scenes and that last part was a hack attempt to make the movie shorter for theatres. But other than that it was great! And the fact that it was confusing at the end with no clear resolution or explanation to it all is precisely like the games. It doesn't work too well as a movie but was a wank fest for the gamers and I loved it. It deserves a sequel and overtime, just as in the games, more and more of the story and elements should be revealed for fans to piece together. That's essentially Silent Hill, and the movie was a good if far from perfect tribute to it. But I'd agree that Gans should've been allowed to do it the way he wanted to. It's kinda like forcing Raimi to use Venom in Spiderman 3.

Nobody has heard of Takeshi Kaneshiro? Get your head out of your ass, you ignorant prig. He's an international star, which is partially why he was put in Onimusha...he has a big draw in Tawain, Hong Kong, China, and Japan (he's half Tawainese, half Japanese). He was seen on American movie screens in "House of Flying Daggers" and made a big splash in America on DVD with "The Returner." Besides that, he gave incredible performances in two of internationally-acclaimed director Wong Kar-Wai's best films, Chunking Express and Fallen Angels. So, yeah, do a little research before you put your foot in your mouth.

Still think some fans got frustrated over the movie not being scary, but they seem to forget no movie can ever match the feeling of terror of a good scary game, since you're not in the character shoes and alone all the time. Plus, WE ARE speaking about a VIDEOGAME adaptation here, and by comparison, I believe even the biggest critics of SH movie will admit its competence among unberable pieces of shit such as Resident Evil. Anyway, still hope for a Gans shot in Silent Hill 2. That game's story definitely deserves the big screen.

I've only played Onimusha 3 and 4, and they were both really great games. If anyone reading this board wants to jump into the Onimusha games, I kinda suggest starting with 3. 1 and 2 are good games, but they have a strange control scheme reminiscent of the early Resident Evil games. I much prefer Oni 3 and 4's control scheme, which is more like EA's Return of the King. Anyway.. I really dig the Onimusha games, but I'm surprised this Gans fellow wants to make a movie out of it. Silent Hill already had a kinda cinematic atmosphere to it. But Onimusha is still action video game material. PS- Gans... hire Jamie Christopherson for the music score! He did the awesome score for Onimusha 4. He won some game audio awards for his work on it too, this year.

Word is Gans is too busy with Onimusha so he'll oversee another European director who'll make the film and maintain the same visual style. What ticks me off is that it'll be awhile before we see any special edition of Silent Hill with hopefully the restored cut footage which supposedly was an hour long. But why worry. SIlent Hill 0rigins will be out on PSP later this year, and here's hoping to catch a glimpse of Silent Hill 5 at E3...

I don't understand how people can say that just because a movie is based on a videogame it will suck. I will admit there are only a couple of entertaining ones(Mortal Kombat and Silent Hill), but that doesn't mean it cant be done. Look at all the shitty ass comic book movies to come out. Hell, they're making a movie based on a cartoon(a shitty cartoon with shitty animation with shitty blocky character designs) that was created to sell toys, and people are angry about flames(be grateful he changed the designs). All it takes is people with talent to make one. So far the only person with talent that has touched a videogame movie is Christophe Gans. He is a visual genius along the lines of Jean-Pierre Jeunet or Park Chan-Wook. I'll admit there aren't any videogame movies coming out soon that have potential except Onimusha. Peter Jackson made a statement saying that when Halo 3 releases and makes huge bank, Hollywood will become interested again and hopefully he can proceed to make the Halo movie. He also stated that it would only get made if Neil Blomkanp(sp?) directed it.

Gans can direct action and he does creepy scenes very well. Brotherhood of the Wolf was all over the place, from excellent acting to some pretty terrible acting, from amazing fighting and technique to some amazingly shitty fights. But it was also extremely creative. I've never seen the deluxe estended director's cut (or whatever the hell it's called) but I hear it's pretty good. Tonally, that film didn't know what song it was playing, but I appreciated it's attempts and saw a promising future for Gans. Then I saw Silent Hill, and was terribly disappointed. The design aspects were right, the characters were off, and the Horror wasn't really there. Why? Because I never felt like anybody was truly in peril. In the game the atmosphere and What-the-Fuckness of the whole situation leaves you unhinged. Hell, you felt like something could happen to you while you played. I had no idea what was going on in the original game, but it was creepy. Now I'm guessing that most of the actors were basically blocked for each scene and told specifically what to do in Silent Hill because I can't imagine anyone older than 30 inherently getting what Silent Hill was about. Onimusha is pretty straight forward and draws from a very rich history of Japanese folklore and tradition. It's an easier sell to a mass market and I must admit I am intrigued by this project. Samurai fighting demons and monsters with plenty of bloody mayhem, count me in!

Roger Avary. The film looked great, sounded great. It was beautifully designed. But, as a story, it was a pile of junk. There were alot of people making excuses for its complete disregard for an interesting or coherent narrative by comparing it to Argento's more offbeat and surreal tangents, but that retardedly long witch burning exposition filled ending sort of grounded that into the dust. It was just a lazy, stupid and unimaginative adaptation. But I'll still look forward to whatever Gans puts out, because at least the flick looked and sounded the part.

I've played every Silent Hill game, and every Onimusha game. I like Onimusha games, however the storyline is some of the dumbest shit I have ever seen. I am surprised if there is anyone who is worried about keeping the precious story in tact. It's a samurai who fights demons - could be cool. Anything could be cool. We'll see.

It was lauded at Cannes when it came out and Jean Pierre-Jeunet apparently liked it so much that he took one of the film's two "sections" and re-made it into a little movie called "Amelie".

I really admire the game series' creepy aesthetic, so I was impressed with how well it was captured in the film. Sure, more scenes with Pyramid Head would have been fantastic, and the ending was a slight letdown, but I liked it enough to add it to my collection. On the whole, it's lots of fun. I believe Gans has a unique eye for videogame adaptations, so I'm cautiously optimistic that this latest project of his will turn out okay. Casting Takeshi Kaneshiro was a major step in the right direction, that much is certain.

Silent Hill was a glorious mess but I really enjoyed it, Gans has a superior visual style to most of the new gen shooters and he's certainly capable of getting decent performances from his actors. I think where Silent Hill floundered was in it's script and plotting, but given it's origins, that was always going to be a tough nut to crack. I'm a fan of the Onimusha series (well from and aesthetic appreciation) looking forward to seeing where Gans takes it, with his flair for martial art action It'll no doubt kick seven kinds of deadly buttage!

the plot of the game is well suited to action movie fare, so as long as the ambiance of the game comes through intact I'll be a happy fanboy.

I thought SILENT HILL was the best video game movie in a long time, and am thrilled that Gans wants to use Kaneshiro in ONIMUSHA. But, as others have said, the character isn't named Onimusha; it's Samanosuke. I wonder who's going to play Nobunaga? Also, I wonder if this is going to be an adaption of the first game, or maybe the third? Throwing Jean Reno and a demon-invaded Paris into the mix would be fucking sweet.

I saw a poster for this when it was coming out & the one reason I went along was Mark Dacascos - I couldn't believe it! The guy who should have been a huge star instead of DTV prince was getting a cinematic release. I didn't even know it was French til it started playing! But I'll tell you what - I loved it. From the opening Jaws style intro, I was hooked. Sure, a lot of folks take the piss out of an Indian knowing martial arts, but seriously - who in their right mind casts Mark Dacascos in a flick and DOESN'T let him do all kinds of ass kickery?? Just watch Drive - the guy is talented! Gans is a great director, in my opinion. He has a distinct visual flair - a pity his proposed "The Adventurer" seems to have been shitcanned. PS - Brotherhood of the Wolf is my second fave film of all time. The first? Jaws. Oh, just to keep on topic, Onimusha would be cool with Jean Reno, the guy is a legend, despite GINO.

Onimusha does not mean 'warlord'. It refers to the main character's status as an 'Ogre Warrior'. Warlord was the subtitle to the first game (Onimusha: Warlords) Along those lines, the Genma, not the Oni, are demons. In the first and third game, the main character (Samanosuke Akechi) was portrayed by Takeshi Kaneshiro so it's nice that they have him for this project. I really doubt there'll be extensive wirework, even the games aren't that farfetched with what the characters can do. And every French person is Jean Reno~
