which is/was a fun show, Greenwalt has looked pretty freakin' uninteresting since the days of Angel and even then it was on Whedon's creative back. What style is this going to be? Dark and edgy, dark and humorous, dark and musical? Stake it and go on to the next concept.

Wrong. Greenwalt was Angel's showrunner from S1 - S3. It was only really Whedon's show in S5.

Now I'm really looking forward to this. I hope they finish the reshot pilot in time so that it airs this fall. I don't want it to be pushed to midseason. Speaking of midseason, hopefully CBS will air the Amber Tamblyn zombie dramedy "Babylon Fields". I'm really anxious to see that.

I saw 'Vampire Detective' and assumed Marvel was making Hannibal King, this whole forever Knight meets Angel's agency with one syllable dropped off of Moonlighting miasma already sucked last month.

Get it? Because vampires 'suck' blood.

It must be sad to have a contract to produce or star in a show when everyone starts hating onit as early as the up-fronts and you know your project if doomed from the get-go. I mean, getting paid to do anything is nice, but once you know you've got a flop on your hands don't you just want to move on and find something new?

this negativity is entirely based on a couple paragraphs of description. This could be great if there's lots of graphic violence and four of the cast regulars have enormous breasts. Otherwise, not so likely.

I don't deny that Greenwalt ran the show while Whedon was off flying space ships but the show was Whedon's baby and Greenwalt worked from his creative framework (thus the "on Whedon's creative back" comment). I still would like to see something from him that is not quite so derivative.

Is the lingering influence of Buffy, because I think I have the same problem. I enjoyed the show, it's over now, I have moved on and whatnot. And yet, the influence is still there. If I am at my local rental emporium and I see a film that has Marc Blucas or Emma Caulfield or Clare Kramer in it, I feel compelled to watch it. No matter how bad it looks! And they're not even the stars of the show! Here I am, a reasonably intelligent guy, and I am renting DVDs based on my curiosity about supporting players in the Buffy world. That is some sort of problem, I think.

Anyway, digression aside, I will not be watching this new vampire/detective melarkey, which also sounds a bit like that book by that guy (you know the one). That was in New York, too.

Also, let us not forget, absolutely everything Sarah Michelle Gellar has ever done. I am a grown man and I have watched Scooby Doo 2 even though I didn't like the first one!

normally this is the kind of show i'd be into, which is exactly why i'm not going to watch it. it'll be cancelled faster than drive. if not, i'll wait for the dvds. though i have to say - i think that putting greenwalt in charge is a good move... having someone who had first-hand knowledge of angel maybe the best way of making the new show *un-like* angel. he'd easily be able to spot copycat moves and (hopefully) steer things in a different direction.

angel was briliant.one of teh best shows in the last decade. a travesty it was cancelled, brilliant writing, brilliant actors had the whole package. I fell into the buffyverse by watching an epsiode of buffy that i saw on tv one day by casually flicking through the channels. it was buffy vs dracula, i think the opening for season 5 or 4. anyhow, i watched it and thought this show is increbibly acted and written. i had previously dismissed it as teenage angst nonsense.

anyhow i got the dvds and they were brilliant, i watched angel from that and that show i thought was becoming even better

its a travesty that the no shows from joss are on tv right now. i'd love to get into this new vamp show, but im not going to, even with grenwalt on board. i'd ratehr have angel back then a cheap copy, even though i know thats not going to happen since he's on that lacklustre bones show

we need a new vamp series joss, save us from the current slew of rubbish thats out there (this exlcudes, galatica, 24, lost, house, heroes, boston legal and the dead zone( veronica mars rip)

I'll give you that Whedon created the character of Angel, but it was Greenwalt who turned him a mysterious love interest into a fully fleshed character. Whenever Whedon wrote Angel after 1x01, he became the brooding love interest and it always negated the character work they'd done. Greenwalt never gets enough credit for adding depth and individuality to Angel.

Boreanaz and Marsters were both really starting to show their age at the end. I mean, they had been playing the characters for 7 and 8 years respectively, it was starting to get hard to suspend their 'they never age' disbelief. I agree, give Whedon something else to do on TV, but the Buffyverse has run it's course. Let it go.

as much as i loved angel, the whole "vampire P.I." angle was pretty much dropped by the middle or near the end of season 2....it became a bigger story with bigger issues and dealt more with the buffy/angel universe than the P.I thing....i think what this show is attempting to do and what forever knight also did was have the P.I./COP angle be the focus....in the case of knight, 90% of the time it was ur typical cop show but the cop happened to be a vampire, sure it dealth with his past and abilities and they met other vampires and what not but it was mostly a cop show....i think this is what this new show is trying to do...be a P.I. show that happens to feature a vampire.

... they'd set everything up for The Apocalypse and in Year 6, they could have worked towards a conclusion of their own choosing and timing, instead of ending in mid swing like that. Having said that, given how narrowly they avoided cancellation after Season 4, they probably should have been more aware of the possibility of cancellation after the end of Season 5 and planned accordingly (and been less surprised when it happened - mind you, easy to think you're safe when you improve ratings by 20% or so after a budget cut of about 20%). On the one hand, I'm disappointed that BSG has been cancelled but at least they know now instead of at the end of the year with a projected years worth of storylines suddenly having to be crammed into 6 weeks.

Hey all of you lamenting the fall of Buffy/Angel/Whedonverse, you know Season 8 is going in comic book from right now as you speak, right? This is official canon, written by Joss Whedon himself, picking up after the destruction of Sunnydale and the activation of the slayers, and even references events in the season of Angel that happened after Buffy ended. There is only 3 issues out so far...and they all kick ass...

Why do Vampires need a job?
by BryonMorrigan
Jun 1st, 2007
09:57:25 AM
I mean, really...A private detective? First off, I just quit my job as a private detective because said job basically sucks. Just about all PIs do really is try to get video of people who have worker's comp suits. We don't solve crimes or lead interesting lives. We hide in parked cars with video cameras.

Secondly, why get a job at all? I mean, if I were a vampire looking to help the world, I'd just pull up the Sex Offender Registry and go to town. Or go after criminals that get off on technicalities. Face it: There are plenty of bad guys to suck upon. No need for a "job".

I know people are going to dog me for that comment but seriously to this generation I think that show and Buffy will live a long after life. Maybe Forever Knight was about a Vampire PI but Angel was about alot more. If you watched the show starting with the third or fourth episode in the season you wouldn't know he was a PI,it was just used as a point to move the story along at times. Bring back Angel and Jericho for atleast one more season.

I too feel your pain! As a die-hard Buffy and Angel fan, I am constantly eying the work of Buffy alumni and find myself watching their work. There's still plenty of stuff to see, but I've already sat through some pretty terrible crap. Like Darkness Falls, which completely blew. Also, Marc Blucas was on a (relatively) recent episode of House and I loved that this season of 24 (which sucked almost as hard as Darkness Falls) featured both Eric Balfour (who played Xander's buddy Jesse in Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest) AND D.B. Woodside, who played Principal Wood in Buffy's final season.

Just saw the BTVS movie with Kristy Swanson again the other day. Watching it now after seeing the Buffy and Angel series was sobering...that movie just sucked ass. The best part was Pee Wee Herman's death scene and that wasn't very good! Not much of ANYTHING is original these days, so you're going to have derivitive stuff. Yes, this is probably a little too soon to re-do Angel, but if it's good, you know you'll be watching. Kyle XY ripped off a dozen shows/movies, but I liked it. Lost In Space blatantly used the phrase "Space Family Robinson" because Disney's movie, "The Swiss Family Robinson" was enormously popular at the time. And so on, and so on. Complaining is kinda pointless. Instead, let's collectively do a treatment for a vampire caveman in love with a desperate housewife whose superhero husband is buried in the basement, leaving her to search for her children, whose plane disappeared over the Pacific in her spare time from running a ghost whispering detective agency. Yeah...that's got to sell.

Why not have a sitcom based on two sisters, that are psychiatrists, who live in Boston, and one of them has just moved from Seattle and has a TV show, where people phone in with their problems and she gives advice, and she can't for the life of her keep a boyfriend for more than two weeks, and then her old mum, who is a gimp(in the traditional sense) and an ex cop, moves in, with her cat, Stevie. I reckon it'll be comedy gold.

...All the ins and outs of copyrights for TV and all that, so this is an actuall question as opposed to a suggestion.

Is it possible that somebody at CBS saw potential in 'Angel' that was never realized due to cancelleation (btw, On one hand I agree that our two ageless vampires were startling to look not so ageless, on the other hand Angel season 5 is one of my favorite runs of genre TV ever, just under Babylon 5 season 4).

Anyhoo, CBS can't just relaunch 'Angel', but why not tap what they saw as potential and spin an un-origonal idea into an origional universe?

...As UNorigonal as it is, there is SO MUCH room to improve on the "Dracula, P.I." concept. Even "Angel"s best episodes (as has been pointed out) are not, really, P.I. episodes.

Not saying THIS will be the new definative thing, but, well, we will see, I suppose.

I mean, look at "Firefly" and "Battlestar Galactica". Space adventure has been done to death and goes back to the black-and-white serial days. However, there is still a chance to look at what came before, keep what worked, ditch what didn't (or won't anymore) and surprise the audience.

...let Veronica Mars get turned into a Vampire. Or give another vampire show to Whedon. That would have a built-in audience. Personally, despite loving Buffy and Angel, I don't really care about vampires. I care about good writing. But all the networks see is, "gee, people must really love vampires." If they want to get that audience, they need to woo popular front-runners. It ain't about the concept. Although please no more cop, doctor lawyer shows. Even westerns had the grace to fade out after a while (the genius that is Deadwood aside).

He always seemed like kind of a douche to me. I didn't enjoy Angel anywhere near as much as Buffy, but that's still saying alot for the show. It truly had some great moments and the character arc of Wesley was great. I feel like most of Angel's greats came after Greenwalt left to do Miracles. Whedon and Ben Edlund started spending alot more time on the show, now that Buffy was over. Just my opinion though, and I thought MIRACLES was derivative trash and that Jake 2.0 was laughably bad.
