Best ratings getter maybe, but most compelling? I know you are all girlie for RW/RR stuff, but LV was just the lowest form of reality TV there is. Sure it was a ratings getter, but if you are looking for substance (and what this 'social experiment' is supposed to be about) go back to season 1-3. This was just PG rated Skinemax.

She's been on pins and needles waiting for this reunion show. She LOVED the Las Vegas season... said it was the best of the bunch. And from what I've read, it really was the one season everyone kept talking about.

or to pretend to be total trash for cameras isn't nearly as forgivable when you don't have youth as an excuse. Here is hoping this season puts the final nail in the coffin and we never see any of these people again.

They used to try to cast people that wouldn't get along. A lot of small town southern white folk mixed with pissed off black chicks. The objective was to cause fights..... since LV they cast chicks who are either huge sluts or clinically insane. Those two chicks in Denver were massive sluts almost to the level of Trishelle. The other one was frighteningly crazy. Not a bad formula.

hands down was SF. Crazy Puck, Christian Cowboy, gay dude with AIDS...and a bunch of oters. No BS gotta start a buisness, no BS trips to Cancuan or Paris or anything like that. to me the first 3 seasos of the Real World (NY, LA, SF) are hands down the best.

interestingly, I live about 3 hours from Denver and some real estate dude bought the RW house and is turning it into a resturant

Sorry but Christian Cowboy was in L.A. second season. Yeah, the first three seasons were actually decent. Ever since it's been about watching spoiled Gen Y'ers complaining about getting out of bed before noon.
My fav. was always the one from Miami.

No serious heavy issues, an all hetero cast with the bicurious members being female. Lots of nice sluttiness and hot tub hopping going around and Trichelle, not that pretty but made up for it with a great body and incredibly open sexuality.

You all like the exploitment of young peoples. That's why you watch. I still like the RW where Stephen smacked that bitch in the face before she drove off. LOL.

I avoid other reality TV like the plague and I've never once seen American Idol, but I still tune into this crap for some reason. I guess I use it as my barometer for what yungings are like in this day and age. It scares the shit out of me. Some people watch horror movies for that effect. I watch the Real World.

The really need to work on the casting a bit more. The casts are getting too volatile to enjoy. I thought they would have learned from their mistake when they cast that schizo girl in the Seattle one. They claimed she had lymes disease, but I was certain they just fucked up and were now exploiting the mental ill. But in the season's since, it doesn't seem like a fuck up anymore. They really are exploiting the mentally ill. And I don't mean "prozac" mentally ill, I mean "needs to be institutionalized" mentally ill. It's hard to laugh at sick people. The crazy one from Denver might just be the worst yet. Can you imagine how worthless she'll be once she loses her looks? That is literally all she has. It's sad but I'm suppose to be hating her.

I'd like to see more characters like that one from Boston who was like, fuck it, this is a TV show. I don't have to prove my love to my house mates, they're idiots. No fuckin' kum-bay-yah for me. I hate how they always make a big deal over reconciling every fight so they can become "stronger" for it. Get some people who don't give a fuck what anyone else thinks and they'll have a good show again. Brutal honesty is far more entertaining than hypocrisy. Get some women who are sexy, rather than raunchy, and some dudes who don't all act like a bunch of crying pussies. I also kind of like the Florida one cause it had at least one or two responsible people on it. The type who's typically cast wouldn't have much luck holding down a job at a McDonalds in the "real world." In fact, it might be interesting to do a season that's randomly cast with real people.

Interesting...for me Vegas was the point that I...

RW:LV's effect was to set the bar much higher for sex.

The first three Real Worlds, especially NYC and SF were the best of the series, but they were from a time when people on tv shows were a little more inhibited, both in how exhibitionistic they were in front of a camera and in the AIDS era when people were a little more skittish about sleeping around. Also bisexual activity in young women was a rarity, now it has become fashionably hip. The way that the show learned from RWLV how to do this was by placing the roomates in close proximity to booze. People, especially girls, who are drunk are a lot more likely to forget about safe sex or the boyfriend back home or feel the urge to make out with another girl. Also the cast members now look a lot like models, whereas in the first few they were more average looking. So Austin and Denver weren't bad but RW LV is the best of the Generation Y shows.

you are right, for some reason I always associated Christian Cowboy with the SF cast, maybe because Puck was so vulger, maybe because of the gay dude's (Palo, Pabulo...) story, whatever seemed to flow with the Christian dude's beliefs. What was it CC got into a heated argument about...abortion, did one of the LA girls get an abortion/have an abortion/consider an abortion?

Isn't there something inherently hypocritical about blurring out anything in a show that's called "shit they couldn't show"? I hate it when the TV thinks it's smarter than me. That kind of programming is like a Malaysian cunt ring. For fuck's sake.

One of the girls, Tammy I believe, actually got an abortion during the filming of the show. Jon, the afor mentioned Christian Cowboy, did get pissed off about it. Also, Tammy got another dude kicked off because she accused him of raping her. First 3 seasons were fascinating, then I got old and so did the show.

I think right around the Miami show the series became less about interacting with the world around the show, and more about the cast's antics. NYC was the first one and dealt with alot of different issues. Being the first, having a gay roommate was big. Don't forget those guys also went to Washington for a political rally, showed the first real gay romance with Norman, and exposed race tensions. They had lives outside of the 'fishbowl'. The reason they starting giving the casts jobs in later episodes (Miami I think was first) was because the cast members spent too much time sitting around and not going out. I think Miami was the first to ban TVs from the house.

LA was done right after the OJ trial, and centered alot around race relations (along with the other stories). Oh, btw, the first lesbian (Beth A) was in season 2. SF, IMO, was the apex. It made a huge difference in people's perception of people with AIDS. It was so big when Pedro died (right around the finale) it made all the papers, and even the president commented on it. I think Irene from Seattle (aka the slap-ee) was the first to note how the show had changed from it's original state. After that Hawaii started out with nude jump in the pool. That was the beginning of the end. They tried to make an issue out of Ruthie's alcoholism, but it was glossed over.

So believe me when I say I WAS a fan of the Real World. I bailed during the NO season. It's intent was make people talk about real issues. Now all it's all about exploitation. For shame MTV. SHAME!!!

worked at Film Threat. And I was privvy to some bitch FREAKING OUT this last season by watching the very funny The Soup. The only show on E! that deserves to survive a cable final solution. But that girl having constant shit fits was awesome. Almost made me want to actually tune in but why bother when I've got the funny cliff's notes?

It seemed like those chicks were really talented. Except for the one that had that disease though, Irene. But the one in Miami had the midget dude that was getting through busness school, Joe. The crazy Russian board that would say anthing thing to anybody, Flora. The all-american dude, Mike. the really cool, off beat shateboarder chick, Sarah. The sexy, hot Cuban girl, Melissa. The gay model dude from Kansas, Dan. and the REALLY nice black girl, Cynthia. This was also, the first year they were givin a job they all had to participate in.

"MTV, fearful of slipping ratings, has supposedly been steering away from reality programming, but only certain types of reality programming." Here I thought MTV was supposed to show music videos, music news, music videos, etc...Shouldn't have to go MTV2 to get my music video fix...oh wait, MTV2 does the same thing! Darn it to heck with those reality shows!!!
