Spider-Man 3? Because I really loathed myself after coming out of a midnight show of that one. Actually, this does look like a blast. Along with Knocked Up, a lot of the people I talk to want to see these two movies over anything else this summer.

There was a screening at the Alamo, it wasn't mentioned here, and I didn't manage to find out about it elsewhere though I live in Austin? Damn, Harry! Look out for the little people, already! Knocked Up at BNAT was beyond funny and I absolutely can't wait to see it again opening weekend (if not before). Superbad's been on the radar for months, so hopefully I don't have to wait much longer. Michael Cera was hi-lar-ious at the AD 3rd season DVD party at the Alamo, so it should be good times...

I loved it. I haven't laughed harder at a movie this year. I think Knocked Up is a better film, but Superbad is funnier. But who am I kidding? They're both great. Two of the best films of the year. This will be the summer of Seth Rogan.

that I can't wait to see this. In fact, I tried sneaking into this back in January and Sony's hired help, aka The Screening Exchange Nazis, literally heard me utter the name of Sony's PR guy, and because I knew that apparently highly classified information, inferred that I must be a member of the press. They forced me out of line, started saying how they can turn away anyone they want, yada yada, as if I would ever not like a movie with Seth of Judd's name on it. As if I was going to go home and regardless of whether I actually enjoyed the film, write a scathing review that would turn off millions of fanboys and their precious box office dollars. I totally acknowledge lying on the little form they give you, asking whether you write online reviews, but quite frankly, I have never been treated more unfairly at any screening I've ever attended, or tried to attend. There was no evidence of my actual job, literally, just a security guard overhearing me mention a name that anyone would know if they read the trades. And here's the kicker. To make it up to me, they gave me passes to see a free movie. Well because it was X-Mas season, I had literally seen everything at the theater except for one movie... Night at the Museum. So rather that start up positive buzz for Sony, the company Sony hired actually helped out Fox's box office receipts for a truly dreadful film, and cost themselves a great early review in the process, since I have no doubt that I will love Superbad. So I had to stand in the refreshment line, actually chatting with some of the film's stars and their guests, everyone pumped to see Superbad, and then I had to retreat into a CGI-filled abomination. Way to do your job Screening Exchange. Reaction for this one has been stellar across the board. A prominent comedy director told me last week that it was the funniest film he'd seen in the last 5 years, which technically, would include some of his own movies. Two other tidbits. When my brother came out to visit me in LA in January, obviously I wanted to show the kid a good time and give him a little taste of the industry, so we went to the Alpha Dog premiere, courtesy of the nice, warm-hearted folks at Universal. We met Jonah Hill at the afterparty and not only was he gracious enough to chat with us, but we talked for about a half-hour, mostly about Knocked Up since I was still raving about it after seeing it a couple months earlier. Not only is Jonah hilarious onscreen and off, he's a genuinely good guy who hasn't let his success go to his head. This Apatow crowd keeps it real. Number 2, just in cast Herc doesn't mention it tomorrow, Michael Cera's new Web series, Clark and Michael, debuts tomorrow night on CBS Innertube and on clarkandmichael.com. The series is directed by Max Winkler, a really talented 23 year-old kid who just sold a very cool-sounding spec script to Fox Searchlight which Jason Reitman will produce. I'm looking forward to the web series, and I think those of you looking forward to Superbad (and fans of Arrested Development) would do well to check it out and show it some support. Harry, great review, keep 'em coming.

Waaaaaaaaa! Didn't get to go to the screening. Waaaaaaaa! Had to see a different FREE movie. Waaaaaaaaaa! You coulda started some positive buzz! Waaaaa! Your diaper's full. And while I hope it makes for a more comfortable seat, I just want to know how the fuck did you make it through the holidays, let alone spring, let alone all those hours of Everquest, let alone a scathing case of loneliness knowing that you'd gotten so close, but yet like the moth that is burned by the flame, had to mention one of your many connections to the magic that is Hollywood and the Sony PR machine, and not see Superbad? I have an idea for next time, shut the fuck up. Who the fuck even are you? What do you do? What part of Harold's inner ass-kissery circle of droogs do you belong to? Are you the group that butters his popcorn? Or the sector that has to think up new ways to tell him that third chin makes him look thin? I'm sorry, I'm jealous, cause I've been wanting to see Night At A Museum for a while myself.

Okay, isn't...I don't graduate for another 2 weeks. But seriously, I'm a total geek, anti-social, and not terribly good looking and I managed to consistently have a girlfriend and access to sex for much of high school. I never understood these comedies where people just want to love their V-card. I never slept with a girl in a one night stand scenario (Okay, once with just-a-friend, but that's a bit different) and I certainly wouldn't want to lose my virginity in a one off type thing. It's not some weird moral crusade bullshit. It's just not my preference. Also, it sucks when you're used to getting laid and then suddenly don't, so losing it on a pity fuck the night of graduation or prom or whatever just seems to suck on many levels. But then, no one cares about my sex life except me.
Also, I saw Knocked UP last September

or October maybe and while I laughed a lot and made 2 friends in the kids I invited to come with me to the film I didn't think much of it. Also, addendum to my previous post: I don't drive. So, I'm a geeky, anti-social, medium looking guy. If I could/can get laid in high school, anyone can. It's a meat market. The hard part is finding someone worth your while. Luckily, I go to a high school that is on a college campus (long story) so when I swore off high school girls, (they're really insipid generally and frigid as a whole) I had alternatives at the CC.

I realize you explained yourself, but c'mon now, think about it the next time you abuse the black box. The one thing I took away from your rant was how devastated the film's turnout would be because you did not get the chance to write an early review.

I have one piece of advice: don't lie. If they ask if you write online reviews, tell the truth. Or is it so important to you to get you little blurb of a review out into the world that you'll lie, cheat, and steal to do it? Blech.

This film will probably be a big hit.

LENNY AND BRONX
by The Real MiraJeff
May 23rd, 2007
05:54:17 PM
Lenny, man, wow, I love that name. Strange Days is so underappreciated. You get today's gold star. And yes, I am a recent grad. Shoot me an email, we'll grab a drink and do some playback. And Bronx, my good buddy, back again. I don't normally have to lie my way into screenings, but in this case, because I'm a devoted Apatow freak, I figured I'd give it a shot for you guys, to get the word out on the film, which in turn would help build buzz for Sony. I wasn't saying that because I didn't get to see it early and review it, the film's box office haul would suffer. That's ridiculous. I'm just saying, a little early strong word of mouth on AICN can go a long way. Why do you think Sony earmarked tickets for AICN when it was doing a U-Texas campus screening? Because they wanted us to write about it. They're not going to spend the marketing money on Superbad like they did on Spider-Man. They have to rely on word-of-mouth. That's how Virgin got to be such a big hit. The point of the original post had nothing to do with Superbad or Sony, it had to do with the Screening Exchange freakshows who take their job a little too seriously. I mean, if you've ever had to deal with these people, you'd know what I'm talking about. Just a ton of bad experiences, not just that night, but in NY years ago too. They treat you like getting to see a movie early is akin to being let into Camp David. I think one guy was giving cavity searches at the front door. I understand why they have to be as stringent as they are, but I find it sad how much security there is nowadays at the movies, frankly because of piracy. It's a shame, really. I guess I did a poor job of describing the circumstances of the evening. But when you take work off early, drive 30 miles in LA rush-hour traffic to get to a theater an hour early in the middle of Bumfuck, CA to see a movie you're pumped to see, and then have the rug pulled out from under you at the door because of an innocent name-drop, it's just immensely frustrating, especially when you waste another 2 hours having the lifeforce sucked out of you during Museum. I know you guys don't come here for my stories but I couldn't help myself. Next time, don't read it if you don't want to. Sorry to make a stink in Harry's talkback. Proceed with the Superbad discussion.

Current mood: FUCKIN A RIGHTEOUS HOLY SHIT MAN (exclamation point) superbad is an instant classic. better than 40 year old virgin, better than anchorman, better than dodgeball and possibly better than my all time coveted comedy..supertroopers. it has wit like jay and silent bob its crude as fuck (american pie the x rated version) (BIG POINTS FOR THAT)..and im not so sure animal house itself wouldnt even be just a wee bit jealous (MCLOVIN is the most original party guy character since..the dude..or spicoli as sean penn..or lisa..you know..kelly fucking bend me over crazy with love lebrock..if..i..was..talking about wild child guys as if they were a girl for example..who..anyway moving on..sean penn as spicoli...)its got taboo in all the right on the border of do i laugh or is this sick humor like borat(think the part with borat kneeling beside the naked guy in the polaroid. it happens so fast youre like what the fuck.. and it literally took me 5 seconds to even catch my breathe from the depths of the humor that just comes out of nowhere again and again and...man..seth rogen you just bought yourself a big fucking seat to the winners circle..bravo man...its like waiting but more intelligent and it doesnt bear down upon itself like some could be perfect but fall just short because they fall on themselves types of movies (sounds a bit like this review..)i dont know too many of the rest of your crew (although i have seen knocked up several times and i do enjoy arrested development immensely..WHO THE FUCK CANCELS A SHOW LIKE THAT I MEAN HONESTLY ?..) but big fucking props to all of you. hands down the funniest most original shit ive seen in a very long time...although knocked up was some really cool shit ..this one just grabbed my balls in a different way man..maybe because i can relate a little better to this one (Eric Cartman epiphany solo monologue to get himself out of trouble on yet ANOTHER occasion: somehow i avoided a knocked up type of life) but i almost didnt make it out with a bang and then it all hit me at once just like the humor in this film man...this thing was such a cathartic rush. i fucking love stoner movies..i fucking love crude humor but i fucking love it even more when the movie not only holds together but the credits tie the whole fucking thing together..i busted a nut!!!! this film just entered the comedy hall of fame with just one viewing and supertroopers is the only other film to hit me like that on the first cut..i watch a fucking TON of movies..well maybe not as many as tarentino or harry knowles or..anyway..i watch a lot of movies in general but comedies..oh man..lets see..kevin smith (the obvious) to the obscure (rushmore) to the classics (real genius) (yes i said real genius..its a Goddamn classic and you know it is..finally give that bitch some a what she deserves comedy central..air that shit uncut so kent can fuckin get caught jerkin it!)i love dry humor like sideways..i love subtle humor like high fidelity..i love old school beatdown humor like the jerk...THIS FUCKING MOVIE HAD ALL OF THEM. AND THAT FUCKER HAD THE FEEL GOOD HIGH TIMES ENDING (that sadly killed harold and kumar..well that and the last half hour was totally douche..no disrespect to harold and kumar it just got a bit much at the end..although the doog was a nice surprise) did i mention there should be a sequel( well no..actually thatd kill the badass superbadness) sorry guys im a purist and there are only a handful of movies that truly deserve sequels..i dunno they just sort of fall apart after a few years..its like you take a picture while something is fresh in your mind for the first time and then you waive it like a polaroid you pulled too fast no matter how great it was only the steadiest of magicians can do that one right( or really crazy horror and i dunno about you all but im really rootin for the new halloween) but please please please i beg of you...make more of it...go out into the world and spawn like freaks with a dildo made out of ducttape i dont fucking care..just go man..make as many of these fucking films together.. and with the other funniest fuckers out there..Jesus..somebody get Saget and Carell together in a Wachowski triangle with Apatow and Spike Jones..SUPERBAD WITH JUST ONE MOVIE YOUVE JOINED THE RANKS OF SOME OF THE ALL TIME GREATS AND PUT ABOUT 50 NEW PEOPLE ON THE MAP. Christopher Mintz-Plasse is gonna be huge. Seth Rogen if you weren't in the frat pack before you certainly are now. Big props to your whole crew.
