Seriously guys and gals - Is anyone really that surprised with how G.I. Joe is being treated? Both treatments are abysmal. Hama has written over 200 issues of G.I. Joe. Why did they not consult him? Hasbro, get your heads out of your respective asses and respect a franchise that has been going strong for 25 years.

I remember when he was cool when i was like 12. We had him at our Airshow in Monterey County. Trust me. The "WALL OF FIRE!" ...which is just that...a large explosion that fires 60 ft straight up...was more exciting than Robosaurus. The sad part is he wouldnt..trans...CHANGE because he broke down and the crowd waiting for 30 mins til they got it up and working..Hope for everyone at the alamo that they got that fixed if not you're going to have alot of people bored outta their minds and no "WALL OF FIRE!" to ease said boredom.

Outside the studio system than Harry Knowles I have no idea who it is. Being the Benedict Arnold turncoat that he is of course he is behind this garbage film 100%. There used to be a day when Knowles was the leader in the dreaded internet hype game that studios actually gave a shit to try to appeal to. But give Harry an ounce of credibility and of course he pisses it all away picking and choosing, seemingly at random, what films he absolutely loves and what films he absolutely hates with the rhyme and reason of a three year old. How the fuck does one think FF2 will be crap (which it will btw) but Transformers looks great?? I don't know but you could certainly ask Harry Knowles about it. What a fucking joke you are Harry.

So you're not showing that worthless turd Bay has crapped out and you're showing some of the old Gen 1 cartoons? Because that's the only way it can be the greatest screening ever.

If you're just showing TINO, stop being such a fucking shill for Michael Bay. How much is he paying you to lie about being excited about one of his "films"?

The original cartoon was rubbish and I grew up with it. Yeah it's a great little nostalgic blast to watch an old episode now (even though it's nowhere near as good as I remember it) but other than that I can't see why people hold it in such a high regard.

The new movie looks great though. I know you're all complaining about the script being bad but do we even need a script at all? I'd be happy just seeing an extended version of that last trailer.

Bay is the least of my problems. Seriously, he is a blight on the film industry in my opinion, but his involvement doesn't bother me as much as other elements. Even a moron leader/director can look good if he/she surrounds themselves with strength (strong crew, strong actors, strong writers, etc. etc.). Bay is not the problem here. He's an afterthought and a fitting insult after the fact i.e. kicking a dog while it's down. Problems existed with this project long before he signed on. The "oscar worthy story-line" arguement is as tired as my arguements. I am definately not narrow-minded and I know that I don't belong in your mass grouping. I've done enough research on this project to formulate an opinion. I continue to post due to my passion/enjoyment of the franchise and my distaste of the direction they took with this moneymaking IP. I continue to blame Hasbro, not Bay. Regardless of who is really it fault (pretty much everyone involved from inception to execution) the end product will be judged completely on 747 and speak for itself. Judged by others, not me. The script was enough for me to make a call on whether or not I would drop ducats on this. I'll type rhetoric ad-nauseum, but I will not pay to see this farce. Pretty or not, it's still shallow when it could have been brilliant.

I'm a dick then. Wrong direction or not, I don't care for it. A boy and his car. Loose. This could have been tight, not corny. They could have taken steps forward to make this a smart movie, not steps backward by making it dumber than the cartoon series. If you fail to see that, then you are narrow minded.

crap, if it was handled better. Fuck a smart film, just make it less insulting. It wouldn't take much to "smarten" the script up. Why do so many of us request a reboot? The script fails on all levels.

I have no interest in any of the characters "created" for this film. Even the robots are handled poorly. If you care about the characters then the journey is more enjoyable. If they are handled in a laughable fashion and conveyed as bottom of the barrel cliche ridden tools, then why would I care about what happens to them? I like a story. Apparently the general movie-goer just likes loud, obnoxious action and SFX. There is a happy medium that could be met. I might have even forgave the designs if the script/storyline/characters were kick ass. Just saying.

And that Michael Smith video still kicks ass

after repeat viewings. Well done. For the record, I think ILM's stuff looks great. I just hate the designs. I have no complaints with ILM's work. They are churning out the best they can with the designs they have to work with. Static and messy designs. Overly complicated and intricate does not look good in this instance (to me and many others). Sleek and simple (without looking boxy) would have been nice. We'll never know for sure, but I seen several cases of "evidence" to back this thought up.

Watch the old episodes. Sure they were air time to pimp out a new toy line, sure they reused alot of backgrounds, and of course the gapping continuety. But one thing that made it stand it out is how even though they are on earth, Humans didn't drive the story. Decepticons steal energy where ever they can, humans can't do dick about it. There is no human race story to it. I saw more human characters in all these "teasers' and "trailors" then actual Transformers. Tranformers should be about Tranformers. From the looks of it so far, it looks like crap. It should start on Cybertron, huge fucking battle, leads to earth. More fucking battles. New Tranformers being made to either gather more energy, or stop to the Decepticons. And for the Humans, they take all the damage as they see a galactic war on there doorstep that they can't do anything about. Instead we got a good full cast of...humans. My guess is, a human saves them in the end, alot of human screentime, and maybe even a romance story. Yeah thats what Transformers is, add in some slow-mo action with rotating cameras, popular monuments being destroy, and just for shits and giggles, a human who sides with the Decepticons and comfronts the good humans.

and they've made the humans the focus of the story and changed a bunch of things unnecessarily. Bay has confirmed that the plot is the same as the draft script which is an atrocious piece of writing. It's been confirmed all along by all of the footage released. To make matters MUCH WORSE, the filmmakers have lied about the whole thing and attempted to be deceptive which is pathetic. All of this is of their own making and while the robots look good technically, they're not iconic and they're a mess.

Then focus the plot on the ideaological differences between the Decepticons and the Autobots and a battle over natural resources which would've been topical. They would've kept to the main story and not had Megatron be some uber Transformer with the chase for the Energon Cube Deus Ex Machina. Humans would have to choose a side and attempt to exploit both parties and warfare would ensue, both open and guerilla.

because I don't make pre-judgements about a film I've not seen? Fair enough. For what it's worth, I think the trailer looks pretty good. The robots are some of the best cgi I've seen, especially impressive compared to some of the ropey cgi in supposedly state of the art Spiderman 3, for example. I don't particularly care about the boy and his car either, but anyone who thinks they could make this film with just the robots is living on a different planet. A planet where billion dollar budgets for films are commonplace. I also fail to see why a film about giant robots disguised as cars, helicopters, microwave ovens and vibrating dildos needs to be "smart". "Smart" how? Do you mean intelligent plot? I'm not sure there can be anything smart about giant robots that have ridiculously landed on Earth. So I'll settle for spectacle instead, if it's done well, and I'm prepared to wait and see if it has been.

I have no problem with the profanity of it which you can certainly tell. But I am just so sick of hearing that phrase! Bay and company are of course using it to get people excited about this piece of crap they're calling transformers. It's like they're thinking that phrase will appeal to the lowest common denominator and fill those seats come opening day. The unfortunate part is that they're probably right. I think Harry repeated it like what 5 or 6 times in his article?Way to spread the propaganda there Harry. Fucking Hollywood.

You're new to the TINO TBs and clearly have not been exposed to all the Transformers stories that have occured over the last twenty years in all their iterations and formats. That perfectly fine and understandable. I understand/see your point of view, but I don't share it.

I know many enjoy spectacle films - doesn't mean said films need to be moronic and insulting. If you had been part of the numerous, numerous previous TINO TBs then you would be privy to the myriad of story ideas and directions this flick could have traveled. No one wants (to my knowledge) a Cybertron only based film. I personally want a human element (see my previous posts) but, alas those involved with this debacle have handled that aspect poorly.

A very select few have "taken issue" with ILM's work. I agree with you. It's ridiculously good. I for one am impressed and cannot compare it to SM3 since I refuse to watch that trash (my opinion).

Superninja gave a brief history overview above of many of the problems this film had/has and the simple direction this film should have taken. To each his own and we shall have to agree to disagree. I'm not flaming you, provoking you or insulting you. You have your opinion, I have mine.

There have been many, many fine stories that the writers could have culled material from or just plan ripped off. They chose another path. I hope the film meets your expectations.

I know i'm gonna bring out the TB assholes on this one. But oh well. Since they handled this movie so badly in a lot of the fans perspectives here's an idea I want to run by you.Especially,Nonsensical,Pha tegodprime,Industrykiller, yack backer and all the normal posters. And everyone else of course. Anyway, would it be in any of yours interest to possibly start a campaign to try and persuade people to not see this movie? Or at the very least if they must see it to buy tickets for something else and then go in this one? Anything to possibly hurt the ticket sales on this piece of crap(esp. opening weekend)would be idea. This movie alone has been nothing short of being controversial from the very start. I really can't think of another film in the past few years that has divided fans quite this much. So I figure this might be the perfect movie to try this with. I would like to see the ones of us that our against this movie to take a stand. Start up some websites such as on myspace or whateverelse and just start spreading the word. Maybe it could actually influence some things but then again maybe not. Couldn't hurt to try though. Like I said this is just an idea I wanted to run by you to see what your thoughts are on it. Ok, let the flaming begin.

It's just a fucking movie. A movie. And that's just the kind of response anyone campaigning against this movie would/should get. If someone began campaigning against a Park Chan-wook film, I would tell them to fuck off. It matters not in the grand scheme of life. I vent like crazy on a website devoted to film that allows film fanatics to converse. I am passionate about film and all the possibilities therein. A fine Sci-Fi film comes along very seldom and they had a great opportunity here.

Matters not, but I am still going to talk about it. Relaying the same bullshit time and time again. It just a film and I don't see the point of campaigning against it now since the film is in the proverbial can. The time to campaign against it has come and gone.

I simply won't see this. That's enough of a statement for me. The lack of my potential one ticket sale and subsequent possible dvd purchase(s) will not matter to them. I am one person and more people are "for" this film than "against" it. They (Paramount et. al.) don't care and they never did to begin with. Not flaming you. Just stating my opinion.

I have been putting people off the movie on a small scale, telling friends etc that it's definitely going to be shit. But you'd have to be careful that any campaign doesn't raise the profile of the film itself. If the campaign gets people curious to see what all the fuss is about you could have the opposite effect. The last thing we'd want is TINO to turn a profit, Bay's shitty flame-covered designs would then be back for sequels.

I respect your opinion and appreciate the feedback. Doesn't matter if it agrees with me or not.I asked for people's opinions and thats what I want. My man bitch is that this movie is just another in a long line of poorly adapted, well loved material. I'm just sick of these hacks getting a hold of this stuff and gutting the hell out of it. Transformers just hits a lil closer to home for me so i'm more outspoken on it than other movies. I do feel the same way about all of the other comic/cartoon to movies that have been ruined over the past few years but i'm not as verbally against them as I have been with this one. I'm sure others feel the same way about some of the other movies that have came out. I just want it to stop. I want the studios to realize what the hell they're doing. Seriously, has anyone here read that review of the GIJOE movie script over on latino review? OMG!! If you haven't read it you definitely have to just to see how bad the script is. The main villian isn't cobra commander but a guy named "Cool Dude"!?!WTF!!! You see what I mean? They just keep coming. Transformers wasn't the first and it won't be the last. I would just somehow like the fans voices to be heard a lil louder by the studios. They need to have a concious. There is no reason to drastically change the material when it has endured just fine for many years as it is. Just because it's being adapted into a movie doesn't mean you have to dumb it down or change characters to the point of it being almost unrecognizable. If the source material has held up just fine over many years then why do the studios always seem to think that people being introduced to it for the first time won't like it unless it has been completely reworked? That seriously doesn't make any sense. I do realize what you mean by this particular movie not meaning anything in the whole scheme of things. But i gotta have a hobby ya know? ;)

I'm not gonna dispute the effex or anything because I myself agree that the cgi looks really good. I knew it would be. The robot designs themselves are still shit though. As is everything else in this movie such as the story, characters, dialogue and so on. The only thing this movie has going for it is the special effects. If it didn't look as good as it does people would stay away in droves. It's just a shame that the studios can't get someone who is capable enough to deliver on looks as well as story.

For months now I've been telling anyone who is interested to avoid crap like this and other summer drek (Spider-Man 3, Shrek 3, Fantastic Four) like a cinematic plague. Since when I believe wholeheartedly that a movie will suck I fill up heavily on spoilers (or in the TF case actually read the script) I ask people if they want to know how the film plays out. I tell them and usually after that their interest in the film begins to dwindle.

Its easier to get realism out of mechanical or machine like CGI than it is for organic type objects. Its still alot of fucking work to render but it tends to look more realistic ...just look at the final shot in superman returns when hes flying off into space..its total cgi and looks like shit.

I here ya! I do the same. I particularly make sure to fill them in on any really stupid parts in the story. Which in transformers case is pretty much the entire movie. I've been bad mouthing this one for a long time now. I try to talk anyone out of seeing movies I know are gonna be crap. When Bay was first announced as director I gave him the benifit of the doubt. I figured he'd get the special effex and action scenes right. But as soon as some of the story and character designs started getting leaked I knew this movie was ruined. It's just sad to think what might have been. Now I anxiously await the TF marketing blitz to kick in so I can be reminded of this shitfest every where I go. Toys, clothes, fast food chains, transforming adult toys,etc.,etc.,.

We don't care about your opinion, if you hate the movie, just shut the hell up and don't go watch it. I grew up with Transformers, I know every character, I know that Optimus Prime had no flames, I know Bumblebee was a VW bug, I know Soundwave isn't the same thing as Frenzy, I know there was no such character as Brawl or Bonecrusher or Scorponok, I know Megatron looks nothing like the cartoon character. I also know that Michael "Director of Armageddon, and The Island" is directing this movie (which both sucked). There's nothing you can say that will convince me that there is another director who could direct this movie. As much as I hated the above films, I know Bay is the only person in Hollywood capable of pulling this off. All the previews, and pictures have led me to believe that this movie will rip your assholes out and make some nice Angus burgers for your fat asses. If you have to hate then hate, but watch the movie and have some INTELLIGENT talk back to digest, not just your whiny "he has flames!" crap. 'nuff said.

Additionally, I ask why one chooses to accept mediocrity and drop one's expectations so low that anything will suffice/entertain? At least we're seeing the Transformers on the big screen finally? Really? Those type of arguements are as silly as the "flames" arguements. My immediate response is that you lack scope/vision and/or the capacity to see potentiality in a project/IP. But it's all opinion and preference which these boards allow the sharing of. I won't see the film and you don't have to read my posts.

Ok, I obviously tanked my perception of the characters. Point taken. However, it is obvious from your links, that aside from their name and a few basic characteristics, everything else has changed. However, my problem stems from the very comments you entertain. You damn a project before having seen it and damn a director for the past work he has done. While the latter can be more proven, (i.e. Bay's resumé (which we all know for the most part has sucked...) the previous still remains to be held up to our scrutinous eyes. I will be the first to be heartbroken if the movie tanks, however, my positive expectations DO NOT come from a perceived "[acceptance] of mediocrity... [or the will to] drop [my] expectations so low that anything will suffice/entertain." They come from a realistic point of view that you cannot deny. We haven't seen the movie yet! We don't know how it's going to be! What really bothers me is that you would rather be proud and denounce the project without giving it a chance. I live in the 21st century, I don't want men in cardboard suits, with boxes around them to suit the cartoon. I want giant fuckin robots, a shit load of action and a comprehensive script. This isn't December and we're not talking about Oscar films, we're talking about a Summer blockbuster, so lets compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. I'll be waiting. Good times.

When I stated that my immediate response would be blah, blah, and so on - I meant just that. My immediate response i.e. a snap judgement/retort. I see your point of view and respect that. I truly do. And I appreciate your optimism. In no way am I proud of my opinions/viewpoints. Why would anyone be proud of their own opinion? That's silly and what purpose would it serve?

I was being childish posting links to counter you "these characters don't exist" bit. It served no point and I was just being petty. Friendly ribbing? Alas, I came across as arrogant and self-righteous I guess. I failed there and I meant no offense.

I am one of those suckers that read the script so that is where my judgement of this project stems from (along with following this project since it's inception and the way the filmmakers are acting). I feel strongly that the script is NOT comprehensive and barely works on the most basic levels. A summer blockbuster does not need to be stupid (for lack of a better word). Evidently I am being unrealistic and overly critical/cynical to some. It's 2007 and I expect more out of filmmakers. Additionally, as I stated before, Bay is the least/last of my problems. But he sure is relevant to the end result.

I actually appreciate the fact that you replied without lobbing ignorant insults and vulgarity. Good talking with you. I'll look out for you opinion after the filck hits the screens. Be well.

if this movie "tanks". I think it will do very well domesticly and abroad. Doesn't mean it's a quality film, but the masses do love spectacles full of loud action & SFX and devoid of substance. See: ID4, any of Bay's films, SW prequels, etc. etc. The TINO trailers are very crafty. It'll get butts in seats - especially kids. Just my opinion. I am neither right nor wrong.

...who also read the script, and found it, besides some atrocious dialogue and silly writer quips (ie: "Rock guitar wails as Bumblebee speeds off"), to be perfectly in line for what a live action Transformers should be: simple, loud, and campy. It was super bare bones, there's nowhere near the amount of detail and fleshing out that you'd normally see in a finished script, but the main storyline is there and it's fine. The characters and the simplicity of the plot development reminded me more than a little of classic 80's movies that we tend to believe are masterpieces.

Could it have been much, much more? Absolutely. They could've Batman Begins'ed it. But it wouldn't have been what I wanna watch on a big screen. I want it to be fun and giggly and roll-eyes-y. I want to set my brain back 20 years and be wowed by the BING BAM BOOM spectacle, I wanna cheer for the kid getting the girl, feel terrible when the government comes to take ET, I mean, Bumblebee, and aplaud when Prime delivers one of his classic cheesy leader lines. A serious, "smart" Transformers movie could be something neat to see in the future, but for debuting the concept, this seems to hit the spot just fine.

Apparently you are not aware of the amount of hate geared towards this movie by about 50% of the transformers fans. There's usually quite a bit on this site alone. But go to some of the TF sites. Theres a lot going on there to.I'd think you'd be surprised by how many people would back something like that for this particular film. Thats why the idea crossed my mind.
