Seriously, it's a moral fucking imparitive. Jack need someone to get his back with a little more muscle than Chloe. He needs Soul Patch once again as his co-hort in all of this maddness. He also needs a FUCKING SACK but that's a horse of a differen t colour. Nevertheless, I can see fucking Peter Weller returning or maybe Xander Berkley. That would be cool. Whatever it is. The easiest way to change 24 is to have Jack going up against something BIGGER. Yes...bigger.

...They mentioned bringing back old actors in new roles, didn't they? Does that mean it will be an entirely new universe? Will Tony Almeida have an evil twin? Will Nina Meyers have a good twin? Will George Mason have a twin who doesn't roll his eyes at every Jack Bauer plan before immediately reversing his reluctance and going along with it? Or will these new characters be completely unrelated with a coincidental resemblance that might or not be mentioned? Will Kiefer even be Jack Bauer anymore? (Given the rumored cliffhanger, I doubt they'll go that far, but a brand new setting and protagonist is what would really liven this thing up.)

It was worded poorly, but I think what the producers said was old Jack, new rest of cast, new location, and some returning characters in different roles as guest stars... So agent pierce could show up running a special bodyguard school or the fired Buchanon could be running a male escort agency, but they would still be the same characters just no longet CTU agents or whatever... Simple fact is the general public would not tolerate seeing an actor on the same show playing a totally different character, and if they go that way it will be pulled by hour 5...

that I'm only tuning into the finale to watch the big reveal at the end. I can't believe that I haven't really cared about this season since the nuke arc ended. I can't believe that, for the first time in my 24 fandom, I've watched episodes this season out of duty or obligation rather than anticipation. I'm looking forward to the reboot/new direction/whatever next season. This show used to kick so much ass. I know it will again. My favorite season is Day Two; my least favorite is Day Four, with this season either being above Four or below it. After I get the last-minute reveal under my belt, then it's LOST FINALE ANTICIPATION ALL THE WAY! which hopefully hasn't been spoiled for me, since in two other un-Lost-related talkbacks, some idiot (I think his name is 'motherfracker' if I remember correctly) posted two huge Lost finale possible spoilers...which, if true, then I fucking hate you, whoever you are.

Knowing what's coming tonight...

May 21st, 2007
03:18:30 AM
...spoilers as a rule seem to do nothing for me at all, so I'm still going to very much enjoy watching it tonight (and no, i am NOT giving any spoilers and CERTAINLY not the character reveal - Hume's being locked up in a hole somewhere for a reason, and i'm not inclined on being tied up next to him). All i will say is that at the very least, what unfolds tonight should undo (mostly) the utter lameness of the recent episodes, if not much more... That said, count me in for the "somewhere else" category regarding next season - this show needs a break from the now-given routine that is CTU. Wishing they would have Jack team up with Theo Stoller (Cusick from Lost)from last season to kick ass around the world somehow (Not likely though, given that i don't see Desmond leaving the Lost Island any time soon, as i doubt he gets killed in the season finale). Maybe they can come up with a 70/30 solution with some of the show cutting back to CTU doing stuff on Jack's behalf while he's away doing some bad-assery far from California. Either way, some form of change is in need...

If Jack's count sounds off from anyone else's count, I could sworn heard one last week when Chang ran off and Jack went for the kid. Jack also had a "DAMMIT!" in last night's Simpsons episode, if you feel like counting that. So, at 31 Dammits in Season 6, that's 1.what per episode?

since I don't watch your show, but have no objection to your watching something that I don't. I'm not one of those jerks who pop in to say "my show rules, your show sucks." [I am a jerk, just not that kind.]

I was just wondering if anyone here watched the Simpsons "24" parody last night. And what you thought of it. I'm only passingly familiar with some of the conventions and concepts of the show based on having seen one episode last season and reading some magazine and on line articles and comments. But I "got", for example, that Moe administering self-dentistry was an allusion to "24's" frequent graphic torture scenes. And since it was also the night of The Simpsons's 399th and 400th episodes, hearing Chipmonk Cheeks deliver that "I'm Jack Bauer, who the hell are you" line which referenced a catch phrase from the first season of the Simpsons 19 years ago was nice.

So, did any of you "24" fans see the Simpsons parody, and what did you think of it?

Haven't seen it, but I'm sure that as a 24 fan I'd like it, since The Simpsons usually delivers. I HAVE seen the South Park 24 parody, however, and I loved it. Any other 24 talkbackers that have seen either of these? P.S. speaking of graphic torture, my first inkling that Jack Bauer was a badass was Season 1, in the back of the limo with that guy: "you probably think I can't shove this towel down your throat, but I can. And I'm going to leave it there until your stomach starts to digest it, then I'm gonna pull it out, bringing your intestinal lining with it which will burn your esophagus..." etc etc

His keys jangle loudly, and as he sneaks thru the living room hardwood floors they creak "CHEEEEEEEAATTTTERRRRRR" "LIAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR" "SHEEEEE LOVEEEEE YOOOUUUUUU". Could Tony's death have been on purpose? Could he have been recruited for something else and the injection fluid wasn't something that was meant to actually kill him? I'm going with Tony! There will be a logical explanation at the beginning of next season. It's going to end up like Lost now. Sometimes you have to be patient and wait for the payoff. No silent clock. We all questioned that. It sounds like a BIG SETUP to me. Make the fans question for a year and a half, then knock their socks off.

There is no better way to revitalize this tired, rehashed show than to change its location to the one and only BIG APPLE! Jack hijacks a cab and chases baddies through the East Village. Jack goes on a cat and mouse hunt through Central Park! Kim is held hostage in the caverns beneath the subway and Jack must trek through a labrynth of secrets and boobie traps. The list could go on but one thing is clear: the real-time format of 24 was MADE for a fast-paced, urban setting like NEW YORK!

I like Boston because it's tighter of a location, has many of the same scenario places as New York and it's a lot easier to get from one place to another (er, presuming no traffic, which of course is never the case). Everything is just closer...and if you need a University or two, Harvard and MIT are within quick driving distance of Boston itself and beat the pants off of NYU as filming locales.

I mentioned this in last week's talkback but do we know for certain that the final scene is happening as described or is it possible it's a stupid rumour that's got blown up into "fact" like the Vito-rapes-Finn thing last year in The Sopranos? If it is I pray for Almeida, no-one could come close to him for sheer fist-in-the-air fan excitement. Remember how awesome it was when he returned in Season 4? Imagine that times a million. Plus if the description is exactly right then it's a characters Jack is extremely shocked to see - if Henderson is alive then it would be because Jack did help him fake is death afterall so why would he be that shocked? Plus Henderson looked very dead, even moreso than Tony did. If he'd have fallen off the sub (into a waiting boat) then cool but I dunno, I'd be a bit disappointed, cool a character as he was.
Eulogy for the season
by chrth
May 21st, 2007
12:39:35 PM
The first four hours were pretty good, especially Jack ripping the guys jugular out with his teeth, and the bomb going off in Valencia. Then things started falling apart. First there's the stupidity of the President's Sister and Locke. Then we get all the Karen versus Biscuit tete-a-tetes and a wussy President and, well, basically everything that occurred in Washington DC -- except for Tom Lennox' character -- sucked HARD. There's a glimmer of greatness when Papa Bauer icily kills Graem, but just a glimmer. Logan comes back, finds God, meets God (we *think*) while Ex-Logan and Aaron Pierce eat Kiwi. AARON FUCKING PIERCE. Let me repeat that: THEY FUCKING WASTED AARON PIERCE, AGENT OF S.H.I.E.L.D.! Martha Logan's assistant is stuck hunting a fire serpent with Xander and Chakotay. Stuff with the Russians that also sucked (twice!). Guys with nukes that just can't seem to be caught. Then, finally, the best ep of the season when Jack catches Fayed (again) and executes him, Bauer-style (DAMN, JACK!). Oh wait, I forgot to mention all the boring love affairs happening in CTU, which, of course, got invaded again. Now we're on a plot track that no one cares about, because no one cares about Emo-Kim, Papa Bauer (IF YOU ONLY KNEW THE POWER OF THE DARK SIDE!) or a war with Russia that we won't even see in the show.

To sum up: Jack biting necks and hanging Terrorists: Great. Jack getting arrested forty-seven times by Ricky Schroeder: Not Great. Fathers killing Sons: Good. Fathers not killing Sons, leaving behind cell phone numbers: Not Good. Bombs going off: Good. Bombs not going off: Not Good. Nadia and the Widow Bauer: Hot. Too much Karen Hayes (playing Jiminy Cricket), tortured Audrey and Morris: Not Hot. Everything in DC (outside of the acting skills of Powers Boothe and Peter MacNicol): Horrible.

Does the show suck? No. But the treads are starting to show through the tires and they better take it in for an overhaul before we start calling for a keelhaul.

Yeah

Was preposterous, yes (as all other seasons were), but Logan alone made it worth watching. The way he went out this season sucked. He served absolutely no purpose at all. Last season: B+ This season: D- (although the first three or four episodes this season were strong As). I don't think even a grand slam season finale can push that D- up much. I have high hopes (although I shouldn't) for a completely reworked 24, outside the CTU environment, which has become predictable and boring. No more of that goddamn ring tone, please.

At this writing, she has just fainted. They BETTER not kill her off! I was talking to someone about this today.. the critical flaw that the writers have made with this show is with killing everyone off, the viewer knows that NOBODY is safe. Therefore, when a character like Morris or Doyle are introduced, we choose not to get emotionally invested because we know they are going to die any minute. Milo is a PERFECT example of this. Here were are wrestling with this Nadia/Doyle/Milo storyline for half the season, and how does it end? Milo gets shot in the head. Okay the show is back on but more later.

By the way, people can't critique a favorite show without hurting someone's feelings. Toughen buttercup. I watched every ep., every season, and I am sorry this season was bad. Go watch season two, and think about what was happening in the world when it came out. Absolutely fan-fucking-tastic. At one point this was the Best show on TV. Lost, Battlestar, in my humble opinion have that designation now. Take your blinders off, this show had great characters and great writing. It's a 24 tb and you now what I really hope they rethink what there gonna do next season, because if it has the same plot points as every other season, I will let you slam the door shut.

I don't have the same loyalty and adoration for that franchise as I do 24, but I bring it up because THAT is an example of "ridiculous". I mean really.. coming from spiderman 2, which was really, really well done, to that.. THATS a dropoff. 24? Nah, this was just an uneven season. Jack is still intact- his character and integrity was never compromised. There are more stories to tell.

Was this the first time the show did a fade to black at the end? Maybe the spoilers were correct but they decided to change it at the last minute due to the critics. Anyway, the ending was fine. They're reinventing the show next year. Jack in a new place. He's the only returning character, or one of. No CTU. This ending was meant to wrap up the current 6 season story arch. And it did. Did you want him kidnapped again, or another presidential assassination attempt to end on? No, next year is a fresh start. This ending was required to make it so.

It's official....season 6 steals the crown from Season 3 for being the Worst season in the history of 24. Repeatedly Recycled storylines, unsympathetic characters (I could care less if Josh Bauer or Miles live or die) and a lack of surprises made this season very forgettable. There were a few entertaining hours but overall the producers and writers should not be proud of this season. I've watched this show from episode 1 and it was such a thrill ride that rivaled the quality of motion pictures during the first and second seasons. Even seasons 4 and 5, which weren't as top-notch in quality still managed to have many entertaining hours. But with the exception of the opening 4 hours and a few scattered hours here and there I was quite disappointed.

...if nothing else it's nice to see some discussion on this board for once!

I think that was the perfect end for this season. Season 6 has been about Jack's breakdown -- the final shot showed that he's at the end. Heller's comments killed the hope in him; the comatose/catatonic Audrey killed the man in him. So what is he? A killing machine: "I'm pretty good at that, too." Best line of the season, by the way.

Now, does that mean the season was saved? No, this was a poor season by 24 standards and I hope that the producers rectify this. Given their track record, I have hope that this will happen, even with the increasingly worrying David Fury interview. Seriously, has anyone more connected with a project more thoroughly kneecapped it? Fury's interview keeps kicking around my head: a producer who's about to move up the pecking order who doesn't like the central theme and wants to write more comedy?! Aaargh. David, I love you for Buffy and Angel, the puppet episode was a classic, but do a Jack, mate: walk away for the good of others.

Okay. Rant over. Next season? I think we're getting the prequel, mixed with a sequel. A presequel, if you will. The press comments from the powers-that-be have said two locations: Jack on assignment 5 years ago and Jack responding to a threat in the present day. Known actors playing different roles? Tony when he was a field agent, Chloe as a CTU rookie, Bill as the head of Division's response squad, Nina, Chappelle, Mason...sorry, just started drooling. And, yes, we can keep the insanely hot Nadia. Can I just say I love her in Operational Black? That, by the way, needs to be a paint color at Home Depot.

All in all, a disappointing year. However, I agree with the TalkBackers above: 24 has earned my trust and I'll be back. Because, despite everything:

1. We didn't SEE Phillip Bauer die.

2. Cheng is still alive and the Chinese might come for him.

3. I. Believe. In. Jack. Bauer.

I just hope that the producers do, too.

Season 1 - The finale ended with a silent clock for Teri (dead) Season 2 - A silent clock played mid-season when Mason left CTU (but before he was actually dead) Season 3 - Mid-season, a silent clock played for Chappelle when jack blew his head off Season 5 - Mid-season, a sielnt clock played after Edgar Stiles dropped dead from sentox poisoning. As for this being a silent clock, it wasn't a silent clock... just one that played without the "ticking" sound effect, like in Season 2 when Palmer dropped to the ground after Naked Mandy poisoned him (the sound with the clock then was Palmer's heartbeat). It's time this show changed gears. There's nowhere for them to go in regards to topping the previous season's terrorist threat. Jack on his own in NY finding trouble and not having CTU backup... that's a season I want.

All this "fuck this show, I quit" stuff... the show's been on for six years and it has one lousy season, so people are gonna bail? FUCK THAT SHIT!!! I'm the first to admit I ran around all last summer and fall saying "24 kicks ass!" and "Watch 24! It rules!", only to have the excellence end with Jack puking after killing Curtis (Black Jack). But just because it's been a weak year doesn't mean I'm giving up on it. It has to give me two solid years of sucking before I'll bail. As for people not getting the end... I think Jack summed it up best with heller: all he's done for Heller and people like him, and he's gotten no thanks. He goes out on a limb for the cunt-tree and when people don't agree with him, they arrest him, fire him, send the Secret Service to kill him, or leave him for dead in China. But he realized that Heller was right too -- wherever he goes, trouble follows. His wife is dead. Kim hates his guts (no real loss there). Palmer, Tony and Michelle are dead. That's why he told Audrey he loved her and left her behind (that and because Kim Raver has yet another new series on this fall). The book is closed on Jack and living in LA I bet. He'll relocate to the east coast probably and Day 7 will open with him finding trouble in the Big Apple (or trouble finding him). I seriously doubt he'll rely on CTU LA (and I DO NOT want to see a preggo Chloe... a good character they've run into the ground with her bearded pussy of an ex Morris). I say let Phillip Bauer be dead and the chip blown up. All this shit with China is getting old already. If Day 7 is to be as groundbreaking as they're promising, Jack needs to fight a more "real world" terrorist plot. The political angle needs to be left out, because since Palmer left office, it's just been corruption on top of corruption (though I loved that twist in the Logan story). They need to lay off the romances/character development of anyone who hasn't been on the show for less than four years too... all this Chloe/Morris and Milo/Doyle/Nadia bullshit made me sick. Poor Buchanan seemed like a put-upon principal at CTU High, not the head honcho for the nation's cracker jack anti-terrorist pros. In review, can CTU for a season, or keep the involvement limited and devoid of geek backstory. Keep the politicos out of it. Don't have China and France team up and threaten to turn the Eiffel Tower into a missile that will destroy the exact city Jack Bauer happens to be in. BE CREATIVE FOR CHRIST SAKES!!! End of rant.

Bear in mind, I'm not griping about the poster's right to say this year sucked (it did)... but simply that I love how people use quotes from a show that ceased to be entertaining almost ten years ago to make fun of a show that had one bad season out of six. For you hill folk out there, I'm referencing "The Simpsons". It used to be groundbreaking. It used to be edgy. It used to at least mock things that happened in the current year. What did we get this year? A fucking parody of "A Perfect Storm"?!?!? WTF!!! Way to keep it fresh, Groening et al. I read recently that Harry Shearer doesn't even watch it anymore -- he just records his lines and moves on. Don't blame him either. I've watched more episodes this year than I wish to admit, and with the exception of Moe falling in love with a popsicle stick version of himself, I felt so bored and run down watching it that I doubled the dosage of my anti-depressants! And that "24" parody last night... maybe I'd have found it more amusing if I hadn't seen that excellent "South Park" parody of "24" earlier this year, but it was tired, lame, and filled with jokes that just fell flat. Not even the "stamp of approval" and cameos by Kiefer and Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe) made it palatable. I remember when "The Simpsons" was considered what "Family Guy" is today: edgy and entertaining.

They did the right thing. Everyone was hoping they'd save this season with the finale. Let's face it. There was no saving this season. What they needed to do was save the series. Let's look at this honestly for a second. Everyone's been throwing around all these suggestions for how to save the season in the last two or three episodes. Every suggestion ridiculous. Bring back Tony? Seriously? C'mon. No, this season was a loss and the best thing the finale could do was clean the slate. That's exactly what they did. Writing the season on the fly was russian roulette, this time there was a bullet in the chamber.

Next year Jack and the White House people like Tom Lennox will be the only characters to return. The producers have said it's a fresh start. Chloe and CTU will probably not even be on the show. It's clear they were giving Chloe, Buchanan, William Devane, and the rest endings. My prediction is Bauer is back in another city, Powers Boothe is still president, Tom Lennox still works for him. Beyond that, it's all new.

Here's a thought for a better ending: Phil Bauer faked the extent of his injuries and when Jack took off, he was able to get into the boat and meet up with the sub. With the circuit board. Unbeknownst to everyone else. Jack tracks him down and next year's season takes place in China. No CTU, just renegade Jack on the dad hunt. Eh? I see what you're saying though, eppdude -- the writers are now free to do whatever they want. Good thing, because this season was an unmitigated disaster.

Goodfellaz - These are my thoughts on season 6 and tonights season finale. Season 6 is obviously the weakest of them so far. Over the last few months, I have watched seasons 1-4 on DVD - I started off last year watching season 5 live and backtracked to catch up - and all past seasons are clearly better written, more exciting, have better characters, the whole nine yards compared to season 6. But hey, the producers recognized this as well and I expect season 7 to get back on track with the rumored retooling. So with that being said, I believe you guys are really short changing tonight's season finale. How great was Buchanan's response to Jack that he could fly the helicopter - total 24 fanboy moment right there. What about Doyle going blind - dark moment but brutal. I liked the rescue operation of the boy knowing that the entire rig was going to explode at any moment. And the actual explosion was great with Jack of course getting out in the nick of time. And I really liked the ending. All season everyone has been complaining (and rightfully so) that the characterization has sucked this year. Not the case in the last 10 minutes. It was Jack being as honest as he has ever been, finally acknowledging that he has been a pawn to the government even though he has sacrificed so much to serve his country. That speech he gave Heller was one of the most important scenes in 24 history. And then you have Jack looking into the ocean, facing a crossroads and then slowly fading away - I thought this was a very appropriate ending. Come on folks, how cheesy would it have been for Tony to have shown up - if he had, half you guys would be ripping it for not being realistic. Criticize this season all you want but in regards to tonights episode, I think a lot of you are spouting off hyperbole and not really thinking about what you are saying. Even though this has been a weak season, tonights episode was not bad at all.

OK, I gotta say I was EXTREMELY dissapointed in that ending. I know they are trying to wrap up everybodies storyline so they can start fresh next year, but that ending was lame. A cop-out. It was a reflection of the fact that the writers have completeley run out of ideas and have no clue where they are going next.

These last 2 episodes at least had some good tension. I'm glad that Buchanan survived when I was su
