Think about it -- this whole season has been about the dissilusionment with or the shattering of the American dream or some shit like that (I've only seen two episodes this season). Well, whose American dream was more shattered than Robert Patrick's, who played a degenerate gambler that Tony completely railroaded, taking from him his sporting goods store and his family. That would be the perfect cap on the series -- a disillusioned washup that blames Tony (and rightfully so, to a degree) for his shattered American dream, so returns in the last few frames to exact revenge -- in an ice cream shop of course.

Tony decides to settle it with Phil and a few others all at once. But, the muslims that he tipped the feds too pull a terrorist attack in the city or something, killing Meadow, AJ, and Carm who were in the city that day to do some shopping or something. However, in the battle with Phil where he decides to "settle it," Bobby, Sil, and Paulie all bite it. Last scene, Tony sitting alone at the funeral home after all the visitors have left, in front of like 7 caskets. AJ, Meadow, Carm, Bobby, Sil, Paulie, and throw in Janet for good measure. She was whacked when Phil's goons took out Bobby by getting caught in the crossfire. Fade to black.

Yeah, it's best years are behind it but it's still worth a good laugh. They pulled out a Raising Arizona parody tonight, with a whole episode 24 spoof that somehow managed to hit all the cliches of the show, kind of kicking it while it's down. Keep up the good work, see you in the summer.

FINALLY - AJ gets an episode to do something interesting. The whole show was brilliant, right up to the last scene with Tony and AJ in the hospital. Meadow looked gorgeous, as usual. Edie Falco was outstanding, OUTSTANDING in this episode, her best performance since that episode where Tony almost hit her. I can't wait to see where they're going with this. Obviously a showdown with Phil, which will be bad for all involved. Damn this two week layoff. DAMN YOU MEMORIAL DAY!!!

AJ is supposed to be pathetic. He's an example of Tony's failure as a father. He's the first line of the Soprano men to not get into 'the business' and it shows that without violence, Soprano men are nothing special. I think AJ is a fairly realistic character and I think Iler plays him well. He's not supposed to be especially likeable.

I knew as soon as they showed the concrete block and the rope that the dumbass tied it too long. Anything else, would have been out of character. It was good, don't get me wrong. I think they missed out on a golden opportunity though. They easily could have done a 1 second cut when Tony was saying "What the f*ck are you doing" with AJ gasping for breath, making you wonder for a split second if he would drown his own son. They did this earlier in the season with Tony drunkenly lurching towards Janice and Bobby's kids at the cabin, or when Tony went to go get Paulie a beer. Instead we get Tony being a human being in direct contrast to the last episode... but then it's contradictory because Tony says later in therapy that he is ashamed of AJ...

Not because it it was a touching episode or anything, but when Tony pulled AJ out of the water I realized I had to put up with that totally insufferable performance by Robert Igler even longer. I think this Spring season has been pretty good, but the AJ scene just bring the show to a screetching halt. I know there is meaning behind AJ's depression, but the scenes themself are like listening to nails being dragged across a blackboard.

Well well well... let me do a quick recap of this character's history with Tony Soprano. Patsy had a twin brother named Spoons, who was killed under Tony's orders way back in the second season. If you recall, Patsy wanted revenge for this, and had seriously considered wanting to kill Tony himself. This of course, never happened, and this issue was never even brought up again in the series. It is very possible that Patsy still has negative feelings toward Tony... and who was the man Meadow was having a date with when Coco insulted her...? Patsy's son! Now here is where my conspiracy theory comes up... could Patsy's son be working with his father, to get revenge against Tony by setting him up? How else would Coco conveniently show up and recognize Meadow, and proceed to insult her? I mean, why would the writers of the show suddenly spring up this new Parisi character like that in the first place? To give Patsy something to do in the story? Perhaps, but how interesting is that? Patsy wanted revenge at one point, and I can't help but think he may still want it, but not through direct action.... Or maybe I'm nucking futs!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Chase and Co. would continue to have the FBI agents popping up unless there was a bigger picture. They keep asking Tony about them, and Tony is cooperating. I said it earlier, but I get the sneaking suspicion that the Feds are trying to make it look like Tony is cooperating with them in some form or fashion. Manipulating his discussions, which are probably taped, to look like he's become an informant. Am I the only one seeing this?

I think this was a great episode last night, and proved why The Sopranos is one of the greatest dramas ever to grace the small screen. I believe the worst thing Chase did was to wait 2 years betweens seasons starting in 2002, then 2004, then 2006. The wait between those 3 seasons put such a bad taste in many fans mouths that it gave them time to start hating the series and I believe fatigue set in and many people could never enjoy it the way they did when the early season were right after each other (1999, 2000, 2001). People have been waiting and waiting for an episode like that for many years, as last night clearly showed where everything is headed, and I believe the end is finally near.

Good drama but I really loved the Soprano speak. Paulie's pronounciation of Baja Fresh made me laugh so hard. And the mixed metaphor, "You're on the precipice of a crossroads." Nice. And if in fact a Soprano is going to die next episode, it has to be AJ. First off, that would be the cruelest cut the NY mob could make. To murder Tony's son just after they nearly lost him? And check out that preview. There is a shot of AJ scared, laying and struggling with what at first looks like garbage or something on him. Slowing it down to look closer it could easily be that he's in a trunk with bits of trunk trash laying on and around him. New York is taking out AJ and then things are going to get very very ugly.

It's funny that Ninja Nerd mentions her as the only one not deserving to get whacked, since I think we can infer (from the previews and the upcoming show's synopse in HBO.com) that Meadow will, in fact, get killed. If not her, I'm guessing her boyfriend, Patsy's son. He's shown crying in pain while answering the phone, and we also see Tony's Escalade being driven at high speed (trying to escape from someone?). Plus, said synopse mentions that there's a case of "mistaken identity" with dire consequences. Since A.J. is in the hospital... I'm guessing the daughter!

Last night was an excellent episode, and I thought it was actually pretty portentious about the upcoming finale. Very interesting and not a waste of time at all. But I think that the Sopranos had such long breaks, and some meandering storylines, so a large portion of the audience has been turned off and won't be satisfied with anything less than a total bloodbath. Maybe not even then Just like the Simpsons haters. No pleasing them.

Could there be any more obvious coincidence that NY and NJ are building up to a war? The show has done this in the past and backed off at the last moment. But speaking of last moment, there are only two episodes remaining. Thus, as I have said before and will again, "This series will end in a Cliffhanger!!" There will be many pissed-off viewers, but I will NOT be one of them...the BIG SCREEN beckons for this series and Chase cannot turn that money away. This is the only death that makes sence as it is the least expected. AJ is asking for it too much to be killed off. That would be too obvious for this show. And Meadow was actually likeable this season, even more reason for her to be whacked. Makes for good drama. It was nice knowing you Jamie-Lynn.

I think Tony's whirlwind in these last episodes is destroying his family and everything that he has said, in recap, during his meetings with Melfi has reinforced the fact that he has learned nothing. When Melfi sits down with her therapist, Peter Bogda's, he explains to him of a theory about sociopaths where they use their therapy as a way to hone their skills as conmen. Which in a sense, that the therapy for Tony has simply been to make him a bigger and bigger criminal, while eventually tearing his family apart, which is what is happening right now. Pretty sad, but ultimately brilliant. what a great show. And, some great theories above on the terrorism thing that keeps coming up. When they stopped by, it seemed weird, and Tony sensed it as well. They didn't say anything. Tony had to look at them like he was saying, "Is that it guys? You're showing me pictures? I'm answering, now get out." Obviously they are going to Tony for alternative reasons then trying to get Tony to rat on suspected terrorists. How that plays out with this Phil/NYC thing as well should be interesting.

Especially because those middle eastern guys are dirty as hell. I remember Adrianna (hottest poa in the history of the show) mentioning that they hung out at her club and talked about their school for boys in Pakistan. The hole is that Christophuh was the guy who worked with them most, and he's dead now. But they could probably pin some of whatever it is on tony. I do remember they got the guys some guns once. For obscure/silly endings, we see Tony talking and he takes a whomp on the head and falls down. We see his bleeding head on the ground and to the ground beside his head clatters. . . . . . . a prosthetic leg! Fade to black! Or he just gets hit by a bus Devils' Rejects style.

Why would Phil waste an opportunity to be a total shit to Tony's face? The only (barely) plausable reason is that he was so pissed he would have shot him then and there, but we can't do that with made guys. Also, what happened to all the people that said that Tony was going to feel remorse over Chrissy's death this week? He seemed pretty over it as he was never under it to begin with. Iler is a waste of a paycheck. His lines are insipid and his acting is nearly elementary school class play quality. If anyone needs a sack in that show it is him. I have been thinking that Tony might rat out in the end to save his ass. Just throwing it out there. In reality, I can't see them dealing out a boss to get the rest of his crew. Maybe, to get whatever he has on Phil, which would be the ultimate way to fuck him. NYC has got more muscle, money and influence than NJ could ever have. With the agents' little shtick, I believe they will force him to be a rat as it already seems he is. Agents would not expose Tony as a rat just to get him killed, they want to build a case against the families.

My prediction: Phil escalates the conflict and Tony decides he needs to go. He brings AJ along, puts the gun in AJ's hand, and has him do the deed. Tony's problems are solved - Phil's out of the way, Tony has an heir to replace Christopher, and AJ is saved. Did you see the way AJ flourished when he was shaking that guy down a couple weeks? Just like his dad, the kid was basically raised to be a criminal. So AJ caps Phil, finds himself, and joins the Family. Then father and son go out for some frosty milkshakes. The Soprano tradition lives on. There is no justice for Tony's victims because the world is unfair. Which is exactly what David Chase has been telling us with this show for almost ten years.

...over the 'affront' to Meadow, I was cheering because unfortunately, that is what we miss about the show, the bloodbath(s). BUT... The writers are extremely intellectual and obviously want you to care about more than typical mafia type behavior. We all think that this show is about the mafia, but I beg to differ. This is a show about dysfunction and it's effects. The occupation of said dysfunctionals is just a story vehicle. Having said that, I think this show has succeeded gloriously in telling the story it had always meant to tell.

I think you've got something pretty close. This last several episodes really seemed to be setting up an "AJ joins the Family" ending, but after last night, I thought he's just too much of a screw up for that too happen. Your explanation reconciles that. Very good.

At the end in the hospital, didn't Tony look like the insurance guy in his coma-dream? I always thought he would go down in a blaze of glory or rot in jail but it seems like he might go to the Feds just to get out of the S*** future his cohorts seem to have achieved. Phil "did the right thing" by going to prison but that only made him more bitter at the end. I like this and I don't. All the endings seems cliche at this point. Only the appearance of Scully and Mulder taking him away in a UFO would seem less contrived.

I think Bobby gets busted by the FBI for killing that guy....it was kinda set up specifically for that. He dropped the gun after all. That really stuck out in my mind. Why would Chase do they if it meant nothing? Wasn't it put on hiatus till next month cause they said everyone would be feeling too depressed if they saw it during the holiday? AJ has been in too much shit lately. Doesn't make sense he'd get killed now. I'm thinking Carmella or Meadow accidentally buy it in a drive by....Tony is planning revenge...about to execute his plan to take over New York and get revenge for his wife/daughters death....and then the FBI picks him up. Bobby ratted and did a deal - Janice told him to do it. They are in witness protection and Tony rots in jail the rest of his life...his family unavenged.

When Tony was saying that to AJ after he fished him out of the pool, it hearkened back to the 'Isabella' episode of season one. Remember Tony, stoned on Lithium and Prozac, imagining the Cusamonos next door have an exchange student houseguest. And at one point he fantasizes/dreams that he and this girl are in Italy. The girl is breastfeeding a baby, and later Jennifer has to explain to Tony that the baby in the dream was him(Tony). Anyways, that's how he describes it to Jennifer, with the woman telling the infant "It's alright, baby".

Hey hockeyplayaz, I think you're onto something. Unfortunately, I guess, I stumbled onto mega spoilers on TV.COM where someone posted on 24 April what would happen in every episode until the end of the series. So far, they've been about 90% accurate, including everything in the 20 May episode, as well as the death of Crissy, albeit in the final episode vice "Kennedy and Heidi". What you saw on wikipedia is fundamentally the same thing I saw on the 24 April post on TV.COM for Blue Comet (wikipedia had even more info which made sense). Anyone who reads my post...do NOT go to either of these sites if you really don't want to know what apparently is going to happen. But trust me and be comforted by the fact that...it is MEGA VIOLENCE. I'm frustrated with the whole "spoilers" thing. I think I've found the Sopranos mother lode and, thus, have satiated some (misguided) deep thirst. Problem is, I'm still not sure this is correct so now I feel like I need SPOILERS FOR THE SPOILERS! Like a dog chasing its tail! Oh well, I'm going to chill now and enjoy the last two episodes.

Paulie is the rat. There's no question. He's setting Tony up bad. It's so obvious. No matter where Paulie goes, Tony gets in trouble. He tells all these stories because he's wired and wants to play "remember when" to make sure to get all kinds of dirt on his pals. Tony should have whacked his ass on the boat. Before they left tony, one of them muttered "could be financing..." so, yeah, I think they COULD try to tie Tony in with terrorism, because that could be the only thing that would turn not only the general public against the mob, but also the mob against itself. No one wants to be seen as aiding the terrorists. My only qualm with that is that there is very little time to establish that and not make it seem like a cheap way out. Paulie's the rat and he'll probably end up dead. As he deserves. Then again, maybe it's paulie, fat on the triumph of his successes, enjoying a nice cone in that NJ ice cream shop. The new Satriales? Perhaps :)
