He-man was done and dusted with dolph, that was the first ever video i rented! I really cant see the appeal to those adult film goers who watched it as a kid

if they must raid the vaults of 80's cartoons.. thundercats and DUngeons and Dragons. D&D was absolutely the best cartoon ever, and cavlaiar aka Eric was hilarious

any more cartoons folks? apart from transformers?

I was dating this girl last summer and she started telling me about how she was this tomboy because she had two brothers. One of the things she told me was, "Yeah, I used to play Dungeons and Dragons with my brothers. It's so embarassing!" I told her not to worry because I used to play with geeky stuff too, like Transformers. In fact, what I said was, "Oh,who cares? Everyone plays with nerdy shit when they're kids. I used to play with Transformers and G.I. Joes all the time when I was ten-years-old." There was a slight pause, and then she said, "I played Dungeons and Dragons in junior high." Then...I laughed. Right in her face. Then I called her a nerd. End of story. I just wanted to share that.

The sight of a bunch of actual bears drinking weird juice and CGI-jumping and bouncing around would be even better than that dog in "Garfield the Movie"! And about time too. I remember leaving the theatre at the age of 9 being thoroughly disappointed with what I'd just seen. No sign of Prince Adam, there was no Cringer and Orko was replaced by some little troll called Gwildor. Just to add insult to injury, almost the entire film took place on Earth rather than Eternia. Only Skeletor, Evil-Lyn and Beastman came any where close to meeting expectations. So, it's taken 20 years for Skeletor to fulfil his promise of returning... let's just hope it's a lot more faithful to the *ahem* source material this time around.

M.A.S.K - A huge ensemble cast, great costumes, cool SFX and transforming vehicles. I wouldn't even mind if T-Bob was in it. (J.K. Simmons as Miles Mayhem)

Thundercats - This would probably look a bit daft TBH but so iconic that no one would care. Would gladly go to see this.

Dungeons & Dragons - why this hasn't been made yet is beyond me. A modern Goonies with elements of Star Wars. Great characters and an extremely sinister villain. They better not camp it up, though. It needs to be terrifying. And Tiamat would look awesome. Uni, well, I can live with that.

The Mysterious Cities of Gold - nuff said.

by DigitalDong

Imagine it being a hour long drama ala BSG. GI Joe is too big for a 2 hour movie, part of what made the cartoon and the comics so good was its mini-series which had a huge plot and different stories taking place all at one time. Not to forget the brainwashings, the Cobra civil war, the October Guard, and the added room for the new recruits.

Dunno how some exec have failed to see the potential in it. kids shows i think would make decent flicks. pirates of dark water-very good storyline for a cartoon reboot-technology has improved so much since they were on air last, and it always had so many nerd injokes g.i.joe-because i have to hear "because knowing is half the battle" in live action before i die captain n-would make a great tie in with wii and metroid games harvey birdman-not a kids show, but it's hilarious and need feature treatment thundercats-done in the same vein as the recent tmnt, since could be sweet. do the origin story that the first few episodes followed with the escape from thundara and establishing themselves on earth, sequels pretty much guaranteed all of these cartoons exist in an idealized version in our heads, but it's a double edged sword when they get made into films, because they're exposed to studio stupidity(inspector gadget), which is ruining many of our beloved comic book franchises, or the wrong ones get made. johnny quest-done seriously, not in a mummy returns kids just there to look cute and improbably do something stupid to help save the day kind of way, this could be really cool. i also kind of want to see race bannon snap some necks and throw some barrels. wacky races-has some potential for comedy. i mean rat race with recognizable cartoon characters instead of whoopi goldberg(she is a bit of a cartoon though. no eyebrows). voltron/robotech/gundam- all those mech shows that were awesome are going to get greenlit after transformers makes a mint of money. hell, we'll probably even get a go-bots flick, and everyone knows they were just the kmart of transformers.

If they actualy make a He Man movie I will drive up to my parents house and dig up Battlecat in the back yard. I really hope He Man does well, maybe a couple of successful heroic space/fantasy movies would finaly convince the studios to get Princess of Mars off the ground(the most notoriously unfilmable project of all time)

Not setting it on Earth (let's not go there again), but the visual style, character design, etc. They could easily apply the approach they took to constructing Hellboy & Abe to all the characters here. Heck, Mer-Man would just be a more buff green version of Abe anyway. And don't tell me it wouldn't be cool to see Tri-Klops done up with that kind of quality. This could be excellent fun if they approach it the right way--somewhere between and epic saga and Big Trouble In Little China.

I don't care what anyone says, it's cheeseball fun. Frank Langella as Skeletor is genius. The Star Wars and Superman ripoffs are all there (especially with the score), the humour is fantastic. If anyone hasn't seen it it's their god damned duty to do so, it's part of '80s cinema history. Scenes that stick in my mind are in the high school gym when Courtney Cox (a young HOT Courtney Cox!) is trying to get away from Skeletor's hunters - who are very cool, as well as being funny - it's pretty violent in places, which rules. Also, the siege in the music store. And James 'slacker!' Tolkan takes the flick to another level.

I feel like I've loved He-Man my entire life. I was very young when the show first aired and when I started watching it, I felt as though I had discovered the most bad-ass good-vs-evil story ever. For some reason, EVERYTHING about He-Man worked for me. It is safe to say that for me the two biggest fictional creations of my childhood are He-Man and The Goonies... by far. I never lost my love for either property and I have always hoped that I would live to see He-Man back on the big screen. I still remember vividly when the John Woo announcement broke and thinking it was the greatest movie news ever. I was even pretty sick and tired of Woo's penchant for doves and slo-mo by the time the announcement was made, but I didn't care. My excitement had nothing to do with Woo directing and everything to do with He-Man getting his ass back in theaters. So, needless to say, I am overjoyed by this news. I have no idea what this Justin Marks dude will come up with, but at least this news brings my dream of a new He-Man flick one step closer to being a reality.

P.S. If you do Macross you have to have Lynn Minmei because half the story is the love triangle. You *could* make her less annoying, but that's a major rewrite...

P.P.S. I was showing the Macross movie "Do You Remember Love?" at an animation viewing with a bunch of pre-teens in the audience. There is a scene where Hikaru *slaps* Minmei - the youngsters *applauded*...

But seriously, if they do make a Masters of the Universe movie, at least one half of the total alotted screen time should be devoted to She-Ra and Teela making out nude in a shower. And I must ask all those who were He-Man fanboys as kids back in the 80s, you do realize now that the cartoon was nothing but one big sexual metaphor, don't you? Come on--I have the POWER?! He yells THAT while holding aloft his GIANT PHALLIC SWORD? Then he's transformed into this shirtless loinclothed dude with a GIANT PHALLIC SWORD? Puh-leeze. okay to break tradition in this circumstance. However, He-Man did have kind of a Flash Gordon/Valiant vibe going on which should remain if they want the movie to stand out. What we don't need is a "realistic" or "modern" fantasy movie. It needs to bring the pulp. Also, it has to have a Sky Sled battle.

the idea of a Great War of technology and magic that decimated Eternia (a light side and a dark side of the planet) and caused distrust between all of the kingdoms and how He-Man helps to bring everyone back together and rebuild trust for authority under the rule of King Randor while pirates, wizards and warring factions try to keep the kingdoms divided or seek to gain control themselves. It introduces Hordak, Skeletor, Man At Arms, Randor and the Sorceress during the opening flashback of the Great War and explains how Hordak was banished. Then it jumps to to present with Adam, Teela and the rest as He-Man first emerges. In a twist I would hint He-Man is actually Adam's future self who will someday become King of Eternia.

He-Man movies....
by Thundercats73
May 18th, 2007
03:00:58 PM
If they do He-Man, they need to start right now planing a real trilogy of movies. First... back story (intro of He-Man and Skelator). Remember, He-man's mom was an astronaut from Future Earth that crash lands on Eternia. Skelator had his face burned off (watch the first episodes of the 2002 series for this backstory). Do the whole Lost light/dark symbolism. Two sides to everything. Movie 2... Rise of the Snakemen. I'd throw in the story of the disappearence of Grayskull 80's episode where Skelator used magic to make Castle Grayskull to vanish. End of Movie is the invasion of the Snake Men from Snake Mountain, Castle Grayskull is gone, and He-man loses his power sword literally because the sword is gone if the castle is gone. After He-man's power is removed, the Snake Men betray Skelator. Movie 3... He-Man gets the sword back, Grayskull is restored, the Masters fight back against the snake men with the help of Skelator/Evil Lyn/Beast Man/Trap Jaw/ect. There is a slight hint of the Horde (Hordak) at the end of the movie to open the door to Movie 4. Of course He-Man and Skelator don't remain friends. They just fight together for their own survival against the Snake Men. The idea of light vs Dark and two sides to everything should play a role through the whole series.

Have a group of good guys (Leader Ken, Unstable Ryu, Chun Li, and other interesting good guys (No one wack like Guile) facing off against a bad group who is out to destroy shit. Base it in Japan to make the setting more interesting. Eliminate all the stupid characters like E. Honda, Blanka, Bison. Have the bad guy be the blue and red dude from "SF3: Fight The Future" you know, that bitch who uses his power when he dies to scream "Resurrection!" and his power fills up. Also a storyline about how Ryu is slowly moving to the darker side. The movie should also feature an out of nowhere and unexplained Fight/Cameo by Akuma setting him up to be the bad guy in the next film. But at this point, I'd take anything over that Van Damme/Raul Juila Bullshit.

Come on Richard Donner. Fuck the musical or whatever it is that he recently said was in the works (no BS). He even said they tried for a couple of years to write a sequel (recently). JUST DO IT!

I think it was a crime for them not to do it back after the original came out. It was a hit. They could have taken it further. COME ON.

Here's the story. Mikey has taken over his dad's job at the museum (or wherever it was). He's still a history/pirate lore geek. Other Goonies are in various places around Astoria and rest of the country doing various grown up jobs (Data is of course the CEO of a Macintosh type company). Yes. Gotta have kids involved so some of the kids of the original Goonies (Mikey's kid is of course the "leader") stumble upon another pirate adventure. They get into some shit hunting down treasure... wanting to be like their parents were when they were kids. They're lost. Mikey learns of what they found, and must assemble the original Goonies to find their kids! It's so simple and hey, it could fucking work if there is that same edge the original movie had. The kids swore. They weren't innocent at all. Donner and Spielberg treated the kids stories realistically... unlike most child fodder today. Give it that edge, along with the adventure aspects (hey, Pirates are finally in thanks to Depp and co.), and you have AT LEAST a moderate hit.

Sorry. I just geeked out a bit. Granted, Donner is 77 now. Can you believe that? But he'd have direct it. Watch the Goonies DVD video commentary... classic.
