So did the CW like Rob Thomas's idea of advancing Veronica Mars four years "so much" that they asked for it to be applied to One Tree Hill and are giving the producers of that show time to carry it out? If so RT and all VM fans really got stiffed. I wish there was a way to punish networks for this kind of crap. (yeah I know there's nothing to be done.)

by Demosthenes2
May 17th, 2007
04:13:11 PM
Talk about being too chickenshit to admit the cancellation of their most (only?) critically acclaimed show to the press/critics, which will inevitably scrutinize the decision. Everybody gets that it's over and a Pussycat Dolls performance just rubbed it in the audience's faces. I guess they've just decided the network will never get any respect so they may as well milk their cheap, trashy programming for all its worth. Farmer Wants a Wife? Dear God.

What is wrong with the porn industry...
by Frank Black
May 17th, 2007
04:17:19 PM
Is what is wrong with Hollywood! Oh good I have your attention (usually the word porn works.) The analogy, even when the pron industry thinks they are doing something original it still goes through the same motions and Hollywood suffers from the formula virus. When will the studios "get" that it is a new era? How many tv boxed sets do these a**holes have to sell before they realize that they don't even need to air the f*cking shows! They don't need to broadcast them at all! Yes, they make a lot of money on advertisers but yes they would make their money by releasing new shows and continuation of cancelled shows on DVD or for download! Ratings are low on Veronica Mars? Make 6 episode mini-series straight to DVD! If I could make a 12 episode low budget tv show and sell it on dvd direct through my web site, then why could major studios do the same with their resources? The answer is simple, because they might lose money if they try something different! I refuse to watch new serial shows because few networks support the shows to at least a resolution. And while we are talking about ratings I dare Hollywood to stop using the Nielsen ratings system and devise a new system that would track anyone and everyone who agrees to it through their cable boxes. Let's just see which shows get canceled then? I plan on watching Veronica Mars on DVD because that is how I have watched Prison Break, Nip/Tuck, and many more and yes I paid for them Hollywood because I hate piracy as much as you do! Give the fans a break and start giving them a resolution to the shows they invest their time in and you might see fewer pissed off viewers. My time is precious and what I will do is watch shows I know have a resolution and what I won't do is play Hollywood's rules like it is the 1950's through the 1970's. A NEW ERA JACKASSES! We don't watch shows when you tell us to, we watch them on Tivo when it fits our schedules and if we don't like your entertainment, we make out own! Technology is boss, not a bunch of coked up, 25 year old movie execs who don't know who Humphrey Bogart is!!!!

All the buzz about this show is going to come true! There was no show I was more excited to see make the 2007-2008 season roster than this show. It is the Bachelor meets Hee Haw. That's television gold my friends. It was well worth bumping Veronica Mars to make sure there is room for this show. Seriously. I can't believe they actually cancelled Veronica Mars, but mindless crap like Farmer Wants Wife can be a midseason show. If there is a Television God, that show is cancelled by it's first commercial break.

You would think that being in last place since its inception and remaining in last place for the foresee-able future would embolden the CW to perhaps take a chance on quality. Apparently not... Of the new shows, the CW Now is an obvious attempt to corral the tweeners on Sunday night before they go back to school on Monday because..yeah..they have all the purchasing power in a household...and they'll be able to rush right out on a Monday night to buy all the stuff that's shown and get into all those hot clubs.. I knew it was just a matter of time before someone would premiere a You Tube series, but I thought it would be in partnership with Google....I predict that it will be entertaining but most people will ignore it because its aimed at the people who have....duh!...already seen these videos on the internet!! And has any America's Top Model ever got a job modeling? Crowned..Farmer Wants a Wife...incredibly stupid...who cares.. And if the Pussycat Dolls stays on for few more go rounds, how many members will they wind up with..30? The only non-exploitative quality show they have on right now is Everybody Hates Chris....I'll have to reserve my judgment on their other new shows until I see them...but gee....CW..if you are trying to commit career and television suicide there are easier and less costly ways....

I have no qualms deleting my Season Passes for all CW programming. Let's face it: It's all suck nowadays anyway. I can always watch Smallville when it reaches DVD, and every episode is exactly the same these days so I wouldn't miss much if I stopped watching entirely. I feel bad for you, Rob. A truly great show... completely unrealized. I hope you and all your writers (especially Enbom, he's awesome!)find great new gigs, but that won't lessen the pain this causes. CW is truly the bottom rung of television programming and they have made certain that they will remain so for the forsseeable future. They simply won't have me contributing to their embarassing ratings any longer.

Seriously what is this shit?!

Not that I cared too much about Veronica Mars, but I'm really don't think that filling up your entire schedule with nearly as much REALITY SHIT as you do actual programing. The WB and now the CW has made one misstep after another ever since it started. Sure, it was a new network and it gave us shows like Buffy, Angel, ect... but they seem to let them go in favor of more shows they will just let die a few seasons in.

I wish that networks, or netlets in this case, would realize that if they are going to stick us with shit reality shows then they should start to run a three hour primetime like the big networks. Maybe then they could keep shows like Veronica Mars for more than one or two seasons.

Better yet, the netlets in my area run the news at 10pm, so why not run their primetime an hour earlier and start at 7pm. It might take a while to catch on but once it does it means netlets would have an extra hour of real programing instead of reruns that advertisers might actually want to jump on.

Seriously, What the fuck is this shit?!

If I were Bell, I'd tell them to stick the Gossip Girls

And wandered a little deeper into the Vaste Wasteland. Not to forget these folks also deep sixed EVERWOOD a year ago. While no VM, it was still heads above reality shows. Unless SMALLVILLE finds some new direction, may as well block that whole channel. Sadly, stupidity reigns with the masses and they control what stays and what goes. This could get worse as the way cable systems operate is beginning to change. They are under growing pressure to charge for each individual channel instead of bundling many specialized channels at one inclusive rate. As logical as that sounds, the result could be that many quality special interest channels might have to fold because of lack of revenue. The end result being we might have far fewer choices and be even more at the mercy of mass mediocrity.

Rock should not guest-star in Everybody Hates Chris. I don't care if it's a flashforward or him in disguise playing a different character. Either way it will disrupt the atmosphere of the show. He's great as a narrator and it should stay that way.

The CW became dead to me at the moment I read that comment. Gilmore, like 'em or not on here, was a bedrock for the WB and CW. It was good most of the time. In season 5, it was epic, thanks to Lauren Graham putting on an acting clinic every fracking week back then. Hey Dawn, how's that decision to swap Everwood for 7th Heaven looking now??

I'm not particularly clued-up about American TV, but I have some queries about the UPN/WB merger to form CW. Am I right in thinking that, before the merger, UPN and WB each played in about 50% of the markets? And, so, the combined channel now has a larger potential audience than UPN or WB had individually.

But, despite this, I have read that some shows do worse now than they did on the pre-merger UPN. Despite the CW having a larger potential audience than UPN did (I'm thinking specifically of Everybody Hates Chris, but not just that show).

Am I wrong or misinformed about any of this? If not, why do fewer people now watch the same show despite more people being able to tune in? Is The CW really that bad?

Dont hate CW
by TheHichhiker
May 17th, 2007
06:17:29 PM
Hate the game. Face the truth, any sort of boycott is just not going to work. As any business, all that a company cares about is making profit. The way you get profit is by delivering product to costumer. Now, if you are on this site, you are neither product, nor customer. You are a parasite that feeds of the byproducts of their labor and they could care less if your DVR records their show or not. Their customers are ad agencies and their product is eyeballs on the ad part of the show. Invention of DVR made everyone with brains and money to buy one IRRELEVANT to that business model. Thats why American Idiol will always be a better show for TV network than VM, Drive, Firefly, or any other show that costs a lot of $$ to product and requires some inteligence to be interested in. So watch whatever scraps CW produces that you can stomach and enjoy them while they exist - and remember that you watching or not watching it does not mean SQUAT to CW.

Now if you REALLY want to change this, cancel your cable and push for and support the direct to consumer projects like DVD and digital downloads (Amazon, iTunes, etc) It will be a while before this will be mainstream, but it IS coming. Besides re-packaged TV content, there is new Babylon 5 direct-to-DVD series coming, and there is talk of a Dead Like Me direct-to-dvd movie. Direct-to-consumer products are the only way to ensure that good shows keep being made and not constantly under threat of being canceled after 2 episodes or being tinkered with by the TV studios.

Even though I'm in my early 40's, television has survived pretty much everything thrown at it. It will survive the Bachelor: Green Acres tripe. TV is immovable, and that's not an endorsement of it, especially after the events of this week, where a lot of shows that I enjoyed took the proverbial bullet. It just is. There was a time when same was said about radio, when it was the source of all sorts of shows. These days radio is very much alive, but it is nothing like what it was. There are barely any shows on the radio, just music and talk, TV replaced it as the primary fiction/scripted show delivery. But I think you are right in that I don't think it will go away completely, it will just change to mainly deliver news and information, while fiction moves on to the next medium.

Supernatural gets 3rd season, not quite making up for parent CBS axing "Jericho" but close enough. "Jericho" would have done well on CW.

I admit I don't ask a lot of Smallville from week to week. It often lets me down, but man! After hearing Veronica was gone for good I did need a pick me up. And Smallville delivered! Bizarro!! That was awesome! (You know we should at least get a talkback for the season finales.)

I love Kristin Kreuk to death ( I used to be married to her y'know. ;) ), but I hope Lana is really dead. She was needed to drive the wedge between Clark and Lex, but now, there's no point. Please don't drag the "Clana" thing any further. Of course we all know, she wasn't in the car when it exploded, because of the van that passed while she was supposedly getting in. *yawn* Didn't they do that same trick sort of two weeks ago on the 40's-ish episode while Lex was switching vehicles? Also, what was up with that forced accent Kreuk was trying to pull off in that one? Yikes.

Glover needs to grow the hair out again (That mane was to die for!), and hopefully he'll have a larger role next season.

Not too sad about Ma Kent leaving. There just wasn't anything for her to do.

When Lois was "killed" and Chloe was crying over her, I was crossing my fingers and hoping that they listened to the outcrys of fans and have Sullivan just assume the identity of Lane or sumthin in honor of her fallen cousin. But no, botox girl gets phoenix downed by a tear drop. Lame. God I hate Durance. Of course, the Jimmy thing prevented that from ever happening.

The Bizarro deal, just like Martian Manhunter was a bit "meh" (RECAST MANHUNTER WITH THE DUDE THAT PLAYED CURTIS ON 24!!!), and don't get me started on the crap makeup they slapped on Welling for B. I've seen better facepaint in the WWE. Seriously guys, you're gonna have to add some texture to it, and tone down the colors a bit, it looked awkward.

Overall, the finale wasn't bad, in fact it was better than what I had expected. But still, since there wasn't a real strong build up to things like other years, it was probably the weakest finale of the series. (Welling has stepped up on his acting though, not Emmy worthy by any means, but still light years better than Routh as Supes.)
I just hope that Heroes has ignited a creative fire under the shows ass, because I want them to go balls out next season and make us Supes fans happy. And most importantly, try their best to show everyone, including the WB, that IT is the Superman property that should have the film franchise.

Sun: Sopranos/Entourage, Mon: Heroes/24, Tues: Veronica Mars/The Shield, Wed: LOST, Thurs: The Office........................ .................so basically out of the 8 shows I watch now, only two will be on come fall. At least I heard they are moving It's Always Sunny in Philedelphia to the fall.

Is this the worst season for tv, all networks, ever? At least within my feeble memory.

i mean, besides ostroff herself? maybe it just that the sites and boards i frequent are biased, but except for a handful of people pleased that supernatural and smallville are returning - no one is at all interested in the cw. especially the new shows.
Yeah, unfortunately, Lana's not dead...

The van driving between Lionel and Lana just before the explosion was a big neon sign reading "Faked Death Scene," which was really disappointing because Lana really needs to die. Obviously, no one expected Lois to die (and Durance's Lois is light-years better than Kreuk's Lana), but the Teardrop Resurrection power was incredibly lame and Chloe had better be back next season.

The Martian Manhunter was wasted and I couldn't help but wonder why he didn't at least try to retrieve his insides. No guts, I guess...HAH. And yes, the Bizarro makeup (or was it CGI?) was bad, but at least we finally got some semblance of Bizarro. With all the Kryptonite around, you'd think we'd see Metallo...
