It was continually being toted as "the new comedy with highest ratings". It was a perfect companion piece to How I Met Your Mother, had great acting and writing, and truly explored how far an arc-based sitcom can go. I know a lot of people hated it, but giving it a chance, I definitely think it was one of the better sitcoms around. At least How I Met Your Mother is back.

I know many of you have been anti-Jericho this past season, but I ask this; what else is there? Us AICN fans/dweebs/etc. are going to severely miss shows like this when the networks are ruled by NOTHING but "reality" shows & cheesy medical/crime dramas. I for one was & am a fan.

when CBS execs finally got their hands off of it in the 2nd half of the season. the weak 1st half was due to the networks constant interference. it was finally coming into its own, and now it will never prevail. Showtime or HBO should pick it up.

I recently heard DirecTV was picking up some shows that were recently canned, perhaps someone will offer more eps of jericho. my 2nd fav new show this year, after heroes, is gone. :-(, the weird thing is it had pretty decent ratings, too.

Jericho hiatus
by thevision
May 16th, 2007
02:11:24 AM
The cancellation would be justified if on Jericho lost viewers during its hiatus but Lost and Heroes did too! And those shows don't compete head to head with American Idol. Instead of spending resources on Jericho like changing its timeslot they're going to risk resources on a fucking vampire detective show and that other crap! CBS doesn't look at the big picture.

That show was some of the best horror/sci-fi I saw on TV. ABC should seriously consider bringing it back now that genre shows have a better chance for an audience than drama or reality. Fuck while they're at it, bring back Smith.
Jericho, Surface, nothing left to live for
by Aloy
May 16th, 2007
02:26:39 AM
Not really but like everyone else I agree that it got more compelling in the last half, now I'm back where Surface left me last year. But Ghost Whisperer?...the story lines are minimally interesting but c'mon the way she has the "twins" on display in every scene appropriate or not. Either haul 'em out and show us what you got or try to at least pretend that you don't need them to carry the show. (I swear I thought I saw them listed as co producers.)

Although it had many faults, including taking an age to tell you what had happened and who set off the nukes, I enjoyed Jericho and will miss it. It's cancellation is yet another strike against watching network serials though. I'm really sick of the networks cancelling great shows, and am getting to the point where I'm going to do what a lot of other people do, which is wait a couple of seasons to see if the thing is succesful before catching up on DVD. I've already started to approached genre shows carefully. Shows like Invasion, I avoided completely because it looked good, it had got cancellation written all over it before the first episode even aired. I suppose you could argue that by not watching I added to it's chances of being cancelled, but that's how you feel when, year after year, your favourite shows are unceremoniously canned.

should start our own network called TalkBack TV. For every sad fucker like myself that gets on here and impotently voices our pissedness at shows being canned that we love, if we'd donate like a dollar or five, we could start a damn network. I mean, how much does Skeet Ulrich cost a season?? Ray Liotta? I bet you we could get them cheap. And what the hell is James Marsters doing that we couldn't buy him or Alexis Denisof for that matter? We have the power...go Team Talkback. I'll go crawl into my corner now.

CBS totally fucked up the airing of this show. Why can't they show 24 episodes over 24 weeks instead of this broken up schedule shite. I was pissed a few weeks back when Drive was cancelled after only 4 episodes. With the amount of drivel on the networks at the moment I just cannot get my head around these dumb motherfuckers' stupid decisions. I fuckin give up.

There, I said it. And she loves showing em off too- I have seen several episodes of that show and her outfits get skimpier and skimpier as the hour goes on. By the end of the episode, they are practically popping out of a negligee or something. Good stuff.

by SherlockMonk

05:14:59 AM
I'm surprised I lasted throughout the entire season, but I did give it chance. By the last episode I was thankful the season was over and had already decided I wouldn't be tuning in during the fall. Unlike the rest of you, I found it entertaining the first half of the season and then when it came back each episode just became more and more of a chore to sit through. I'm not sure what I was expecting from the start, but it wasn't what I had hoped.

As I understand the DVD, now the complete series release for Jericho is August. It sucks that it got fucked. But what I'm hoping. Very much. Even if it's just the creator sitting on a lawn chair; answers. Have him rattle on, maybe fifteen minutes on what the show was going had season two been given a go - and beyond. The overall tale. If that happens, I'll be sad, but pleased.
Jericho: Everybody dies...
by Prof. Pop-Cult
May 16th, 2007
05:55:22 AM
Whenever a show I watch is canceled but ends in a cliffhanger, I simply imagine that every character died afterwards, in order for me to move one. So this is what I imagined happened after the finale: 1) The New Bern militia overtook the Jericho soldier-residents, killing them all. 2) The marines captured Hawkins, tortured him and threatened to kill his family -- he told them where the nuke was hidden. (But they killed his family first, and then him, anyway.) 3) The marines activated the timer on the nuke and evacuated Jericho. 4) The nuke went off, totally destroying Jericho, New Bern and anything else living in the nearby vicincities. THE END.
Oh, and one more thing...
by Prof. Pop-Cult

5) Afterwards, the marines executed the cute schoolteacher from Jericho, because she knew too much.

I've got to agree with both sides on Jericho. Before the break, I was ready to drop it, but gave it a 2nd chance. Then the second half of the season became the compelling story I had hoped for when it started. It's another show that networks don't know what to do with, and could only exist as a cable series - much like how even Ron Moore admitted if BSG were on network, it would have been cancelled long ago. (not that Jericho was THAT compelling - but it had promise)

jericho and the class, wow, thanks cbs for wasting another 30+ hours of my life, whi in the world did you let jericho go a full year, they got their feet under them, and started running full speed..THEN, you cancel em,brilliant..abc did the same thing to invasion..and have not watched a single minute of abc programming since...well bit torrent for lost of course, but i never turn to abc's channel, cbs just joined the list..have fun with your "unit" to i own you..i think the story of a wayward son comming home and making amends and becomming a hero is a very uplifting story, the jericho landscape was bleak yes, based on the circumstances the first year would almost have to be,but it would have been nice to see where they went with the story,oh well, nbc renewed scrubs, only 7 million viewers, and they pay zach braff a ton of money..but they still showed balls by giving them 1 more year..bravo

Jericho was mine, and my wife's Favorite new show behind heroes. We watched it and loved it. We stared at the screen sadly when they Killed Johnston Green.

What the hell was CBS expecting? They bring in a brand new show, its getting MAJOR Ratings, Lost is off the air and no competition was going on.. so what do they do.. OH a 2 month haitus won't effect us! We can just come back Vs Bones then American Idol. WEDNESDAY WAS THE MOST EPISODE HEAVY DAY:

American Idol

Lost

Medium

Bones

Jericho

Halfway Home and a few others.

Jericho was the only reason I have EVER tuned to CBS. Screw the network execs. Surface & Jericho would have been in fine fucking form in their second seasons. Thanks for screwing us loyal viewers and leaving us with a HUGE ass cliff hanger.

CBS is brutal. Whoever is in charge there should have his nuts cut off. They didn't give the show a fair chance. They took it off air for what? 3 months? Give me a break. As far as I'm concerned, CBS has failed 2 shows this year. Smith wasn't given a fair shot (it was starting to get really interesting)and now Jericho. To end a show like that with so many unasnwered questions is just fucking brutal. It was seriously the only show on CBS that I watched. Here's hoping that they decide to move it's nights instead and prepare for season 2 to be the final season with the hopes that maybe ratings will jump and they can carry on.

I don't get the lack of publicity this show gets. It's easily one of the best one-hour dramas on television. Maybe the military angle rubs some people the wrong way, but damn it's nice to see a compelling hour of serial ass kicking. A dash of family drama to keep the ladies happy doesn't hurt either. At least it gives the characters some depth. Glad it's back. Jonas owns all. I'm talking to you Jack Bauer, you whiny melodramatic drama queen.

I feel bad for people who enjoyed "Jericho," of which there are many on this talkback. But even with Michael J. Straczynski's involvement, this show never hit its stride or grabbed my attention. It had high production values and fairly good acting, but the stories themselves left me shaking my head. I watched the first seven episodes hoping for intrigue and minor payoffs, but the utter -- and, in my opinion, stupid -- implausibilty of the show ruined it for me. The "Jericho" writers could've given this show such depth, such drama, but they took the safe route and shot themselves in the foot.

I know many people dug the show, and I feel bad for people who were hoping for a season 2, but I'm actually glad it's getting cancelled. Maybe something better will replace it.

The nukes were bought on the black market from the Russians and set off by a domestic terror group. The "black guy" was an undercover agent who had infiltrated the terrorists and assigned one of the nukes to set off. He was unable to stop the terrorists plans when they moved up their timetable and escaped to Jericho with his bomb, which he buried. Also, the head of homeland security, played by Daniel Benzali, may have been a part of the domestic terror group, although that was unresolved at season's end. Jericho was uneven, but had a great start and really got interesting at the end of the season so it's a shame they are cancelling this.

The REALLY stupid thing about CBS is that JERICHO had decent ratings before the Christmas hiatus, but the writing was weak. When it came back, the writing improves tenfold but it got trounced in the ratings by American Idol. Go figure! Does it not occur to the Idiots-That-Be that if it had good rating once, it could have good rating again IF THEY MOVED IT FROM OPPOSITE AMERICAN IDOL??? LOSERS! Plus, as usual, they left it in a cliff-hanger. Invasion, anyone? Oh, and for those who say it sucked, just because YOU thought it sucked, doesn't mean it actually did. That's the beauty of a democracy. We are ALLOWED to have differing opinions and likes/dislikes without having to listen to morons spout off about what should and shouldn't be seen on televison, etc.

Jericho went on hiatus for the same reason Lost did: to avoid showing reruns and interrupting the flow of the show as they built towards the end of the season. It probably would have worked too if American Idol didn't steamroll everything in its path. Then again, with AI tanking a bit lately, next year might be a different story.

It was retarded, but watchable, until episode 9 or 10 ... then it got real promising. CBS has no idea what to do with Sci-Fi, in any form. Heroes is a sci-fi hit for NBC. Lost is a sci-fi hit for ABC. But CBS just putters along with no clue how to develope a promising concept. It's pathetic, really. Why didn't they just retitle is "CSI: Jericho" - then CBS would've kept it around for 10 seasons.

Jericho = Lost if it was written by 'tards...

I watched the first 6 episodes begrudgingly hoping for an improvement in the writing and it never came (I also did the same with Heroes and was somewhat rewarded). Jericho was a good concept hampered by horrible execution and even worse writing. 90% of the characters were cliches - the other 10% were pointless.

Lost, on the other hand, for all it's slow exposition and deliberate pacing is still one of the best written shows on television. I can't remember the last time I heard a line in Lost that seemed out of place or didn't serve a purpose. Jericho was full of them.

The hiatus didn't kill Jericho - the writing and lack of ratings did.

P.S. The 9 was a far better show both in concept and execution and that got cut a while back. It was only a matter of time for Jericho.

Dude, you've got it COMPLETELY backwards. It's "Lost" that's written by 'tards. I can't believe we have to endure another 48 episodes of that go-nowhere crapfest and "Jericho" gets cancelled.

But first we have to wait until the last two episodes air in July. My post-finale scenario will result in everybody dying/getting killed off somehow. ... I was chatting with a co-worker today about shows that get canceled in mid-cliffhanger, and he came up with an interesting idea. Somebody should set up a site for aspiring TV show writers who could contribute TV scripts that resolve cliffhangers within one or two episodes. That would be the rule: You can't try to launch a "virtual season" with a bunch of scripts (determined fans of some prematurely canned shows, like Millennium, have done this). No, you are only allowed one or two more episodes to wrap everything up. Imagine if Jericho had been given a 23 or 24 episode order by CBS. Thus, how would you wrap up most of the plot points by the end of such an imagined, extended season?
Ending Veronica Mars.

I like that idea Professor. Veronica Mars got 20 episodes this season. How would fans wrap things up with two more episodes? I think Jericho would need two more episodes to wrap up most of its finale cliffhangers.
Jericho was not up against Idol

It aired one hour before. The Unit was against Idol and it's coming back. Jericho's competition was George Lopez (now gone), Friday Night Lights (now moved), and Bones. The show came in 2nd in its time slot. Some exec. hated the show. This move makes no sense.

TV executive who concocted this fucktard business model of putting serialized dramas on 6 to 8 week hiatueses thinking that the audience would return. Hell, according to NBC, Heroes lost over 3 million viewers after its' 7 week hiatus. Hopefully, next season they'll forsake this whole multiple month hiatus bus. model for something resembling common sense scheduling. Damn! Jericho was a decent show too :-(

But some people don't like serialized TV shows. Most serialized TV shows take time to get started, with the exception of Lost and Heroes, there aren't a lot of serialized TV shows on Network TV. The ones that caught on tended to be on the smaller networks. i.e. Buffy, Angel. Major networks tend to be much more 'yank' happy anymore. I recall that Seinfield 1st episodes weren't that great and that probably would be canned in this era. Along with Friends didn't have a great start either. TV Networks need to show some patience. JAG as someone mentioned got the quick yank, but flourished on another network. I'd love for maybe the CW to pick up Jericho, but that's unlikely. I wish Sci-fi Channel would leave one programming slot open to scavenge good programming from fickle TV Networks, but then again they're run by NBC too. I like the paulrichard idea.

CBS, you bunch of fucktards, go to hell. You keep stupid ass shit on the air, yet kill the intelligent and thought provoking stuff that gets ratings. /sigh/ I tuned into Jericho every frickin night to watch. It had a message that one day could come true: America will die in the fires started by their own people. You might have just lost one of your only viewers of Survivor. This stuff is why the damn networks are losing viewers: They don't know what works and is good tv, so they stick to carbon copy shows and shitfest pop-cult shows that cater to fucktard teens and young adults who can't think for themselves. Bye bye CBS. ___KNEEL___ before Z0D

Seriously, Ive lived all over the US, and NEVER met anyone who even knew anyone that had one. EVERYONE I know is watching and loving Jericho. Yet all the decisions are made over the box? STUPID. CBS is clearly out of touch. A show like Heroes, that was really amazing when it started and has grown progressively more and more ripped off (unexcitedly) from X-Men: Days of Future Past (they even called Suresh "The Professor" two weeks ago) gets a spin off (and twelve new characters each week!), but Jericho which only got better every week (except killing Johnston-- uh duh???), gets canned? This is why I dont watch as much TV as I used to.

I always thought that show sucked worse than anything else on T.V. It was so friggen lame. Technically, it was a nightmare. Could they not have hired anyone with any tactical sense to at least help them put together a decent action scene? No...cancelled...got what they deserved...it sucked.

It's hardly a new idea, but one of the most impressive ones I've seen was a site called Sports Night on CSC. It contained about 2.5 seasons worth of scripts for Sports Night. What was impressive about it though is that it scoured every other Sports Night fanfiction/virtual scripts online, took the best parts, dialogue snippets, etc. and incorporated them into their scripts (while giving credit). It even approached things as if the show was actually on air, by doing things like having Huffman's character absent from the first bunch of episodes of "Season three", as realistically, she'd be on maternity leave at that point. It was just a really professional, well-rounded effort. And I was glad to see that amount of dedication be poured into something.

Could have been a really great series. Itstarted strong. For some reason, it went really soap opera for a while. Then, the last two episodes were verys trong. I don't know if the writers knew where they were going with the show. It could have been one of the better shows around.

I have DirecTV and it has an option to see what everyone from your time zone is watching, and whats the most watched show nationally that night. well, jericho was always in the top 5 on wednesdays. i dont know who the fuck has a nielsen box, i've never met anyone, but i would gladly put a nielson box in every home in america to see whos watching what so we stop cancelling good shows on faux and faulted reports! bring on more celebrity fit club and wife swap and super nanny, because a smart show about the end of civilization in the US with towns going to civil war is totally not what america wants to watch. Seriously, WTF.

Amist all the bad news I have to say. I am seriously thrilled to see one of the most clever and original sitcoms to come out in years has survived the long knives. If you've read the last few Entertainment Weekly reviews, you'd thinks the show had already been cancelled, or at least on the bubble. Thankfully that is not the case according to the Variety article in the link above. I beleive I heard elswewhere that Scrubs will be back as well.
