BSG is going to be difficult, if not impossible to sell for syndication. It is a rolling plot, and outside of a few episodes MUST BE WATCHED IN SEQUENCE. That makes it undesirable to most networks.

That's a rather arrogant statement, I think. He makes it sound like BSG operates outside the confines of producers and executives. (Would be nice, but it just doesn't happen). The fact of the matter is Season Two lost 31% of the audience from "Scattered" to "Lay Down your Burdens". Then lost an additional 40% by "Crossroads". If this show was on ANY channel (cable or network) other than SciFi, it would have been cancelled long ago. Battlestar lives one due to the miracle of low expectations that exists at SciFi. I'm interested to see if Dresden gets renewed, because it had practically the same ratings as BSG. If Dresden gets cancelled, then shouldn't BSG?

Now that networks and advertisers are starting to accept the DVR playback more, BSG will be able to include some of those numbers in their overall ratings. That will boost their total ratings. Mind you, the current ratings system is a guessing game... while the Tivo DVR rating system is accurate.

Scifi and NBC Universal aren't fronting the money for new BSG episodes out of some bizaar desire that their show be loved and worshiped by millions of Torrent and Tivo using nerds. Television is about selling ads and the only thing that Tivo ratings guarentee is that 99% of those people aren't watching any ads. Whine all you want about the need for a new ratings paradigm, the current system(and the production values we've come to expect) can only be supported by the ad model. When the ad model finally breaks the medium will be fucked for a generation.

Just when I thought that knew when to go out on a high. If the series is cancelled after unresolved storylines at the end of Season Four, there's going to be a lot of majorly pissed off fans. Just take the opportunity to end it properly and be done with it. I hope they won't start Season Four not knowing if it will be the last or not and then, in the last few weeks, decide to end it. That will lead to a rushed conclusion, rather than a well-thought-out final run. Make the decision early, people.

This is what always happens - during a new show's first season everyone is like 'oh it better get a second season or I'm gonna kill myself' then when it DOES get a second season everyone acts as though they didn't really ask for it, they have no patience for a story continuing past one season. Then when the show gets a third season everyone's like 'oh, jumped the shark! jumped the shark! end it NOW end it NOW!!' I would like Galactica to get a 5th, 6th and maybe 7th season. It deserves it. There's HUGE potential in this world.

Unless after they find Earth they do a season about the aftermath. I'd like to see them mirror the old show where they arrived in the "modern day" and see how they get integrated into 2007 society. I think the writers are going to go with them finding an unpopulated Earth however (either in our distant past or future). Just a hunch.

why all of you people are such huge bsg haters, aren't you supposedly "fans" of the show? the first half of season three was incredible with very intense and realistic allegories for our current war in Iraq and the unstoppable insurgency. Someone posted in the other BSG thread something I found very interesting... BSG is some of if not THE best science-fiction that has ever graced our television screens, but you all whine and bitch when they take the show out space and down to a planet to show some seriously gritty war stories. I mean come on, Colonel Tigh orders suicide bombings, the cyclons have mass executions of their political adversaries, Starbuck kills her captor over and over and over again. I would even say that the first half of season 3 was BSG at its BEST. I don't understand what you people keep bitching about. Let's say season4 is the final season for BSG... what are we fans of science-fiction left with? Pure garbage... Dresden Files? Stargate: Atlantis? Give me a fucking break. Both stargate series are utter garbage that appeal to the lowest common denominator.

I haven't watched either in a while, I missed a season a couple years back and haven't had time to catch up. But SG1 was kicking ass right up through S8. It probably lost something when Richard Dean Anderson left the cast, since he's the freakin' man. Atlantis was good because of David Hewlett, I can't vouch for it though because I've only seen maybe the first season. There's still hope for sci-fi. o_O; I think.

First they find Earth and finish up with the mysteries of the 13th Tribe, then they need to finally resolve the Human/Cylon conflict with the integration of the two races on Earth. There's two seasons worth right there, practically writes itself. And I still say, fuck SciFi for letting all these rumors and shit fly regarding BSG. They've been pulling this shit on us for months now, and I'm sick of it. Eick and Moore seem to have no problem addressing these issues, when is SciFi going to weigh in on it?

Because I'm not. I follow BSG faithfully, just like I do SG-1, even though it's obvious that SG-1's past its prime. And if BSG can continue keeping up the quality of its stories and maintain ratings, then I'll think that's absolutely super, and I'll keep watching. I am saying, though, that there are tipping points in TV history when it would have been wiser to cancel a show then let it keep going (for example, when "Buffy" got canceled by WB, David Duchovny left "X-Files," and Richard Dean Anderson stopped being a regular on SG-1). In each case I just named, it kept getting harder for me, at least, to feel the love. Maybe it won't be that way for BSG. I don't know. ::shrug:;

I'm actually happy with this news. I believe they can probably accomplish everything they need to in twenty episodes in Season Four, but I'd really love for them to have the chance at a Season Five. Honestly, the way I think they should do it is to have the Fourth Season end with them finding Earth. No reveal about what state human society is when they get there...they just get there. If a Fifth Season is green-lit, then they can do the big reveal that oh, Earth society is still in the stone age, or 1980s, or 1940s, or whenever. At that point they have to keep going and lead the Cylons on a goose chase to protect Earth, whatever. It's a perfect way to manage it. It gives us closure on the major story of the series: "will they find Earth?" and it gives them the ability to continue beyond that should they have the opportunity. This also solves the issue of whether they can provide an answer about the _state_ of Earth's society that will satisfy the malcontents on this site and elsewhere.

A coworker of mine was on a little commuter flight to the boondocks (Marquette, Michigan) and looked at the guy next to her at the gate reading a paper, and it was Edward James Olmos. He was going up to some little tiny college to give some speech on hispanic culture. She sat next to him the whole flight and said he was tremendously pleasant, and more than willing to talk about Battlestar Galactica (one of her favorite shows). He said he loved doing it, and was thrilled with it's success.

But I found the show lacking in season 3. The time jump and being stuck on the planet early in the season was a snoozefest. No drama imo. And what shows do I like more than BSG? Rome, Sopranos and Lost. And recent shows like Deadwood and Carnivale. And would place heroes about even with BSG season 3. Those are pretty much the only series I watch. The rest is sports, movies and history and discovery channel.

The big reveal is that this BSG was all a Cylon-made replica to understand humanity in order to destroy humanity, but it was an experiment gone amuck and the subjects evolved beyond their initial objectives and are now something new, neither human nor cylon. When they reach earth, have them find another, old Galactica is there, and has been there for 28 years. You won't need most of the original Galactica people, but anyone who wants in on it, should be in it. This would be a great way to do Season 5. The conflict between three groups, while two of them feel a need to protect earth. It becomes the bridge by which the cylon-human war finally ends.

This may not be BSG's last season if, for example the ratings get back to an average of 2.3 or so and they sell loads more DVDs - and fast enough before the end of Season 4 so they can write a Season 5 (and adjust the end of Season 4) so it doesn't look tacked on.

It's got way too many holes in it anyway. We know there was a Caprica with a fully-thriving civilisation on it. It goes beyond 'expriment gone wrong' because of that. If the show had started with them already on Galactica, then maybe. But it would still be a sucky plot.

But we also know that was the case with the original Galactica. They left; we don't know what happened after that. We do know many who seemed to be human are not, and have not been for a long time. It only seems to be that the whole group is cylon. Plus, I find the new series to be silly, but this would be a good explanation for it. Galactica the new series is Venomitica.

I wish they would make up their mind. After that preposterous season finale, I was debating whether or not I'd be back for a season 4. Then I hear it'll be the finale season, so I figure it'll have some kind of focus, so I'm back in. Now it's like well it may not be the last, we'll just throw spaghetti to the wall and see if enough of it sticks to warrant a 5th season. Even if you loved the finale, you simply cannot argue that the show has any clear direction since RDM has made it clear that it does not. This is bad news for the lovers as well. So do I bother with the fourth, desperately hoping the rare Exodus Pt. II? Maybe I'll just wait till it's all over and catch up quickly on DVD. I hate when great shows crash, I never know when to get out. Why is it that whenever a show gets a cancellation notice and everyone bitches about it on the boards, that the studios never pull a reversal? But in this case, most people agreed it was the right decision and they backtrack. Give the show a fair end already.
