Jericho reminds me of Invasion. It started much too slow with fairly stock (and bland) characters, took too long setting things up, but managed to finish with a compelling run. I just hope Jericho doesn't suffer Invasion's fate.

Merrick, they didn't just detonate one bomb, they detonated several, and the country is a wasteland, thats why the government isn't in order. There is no communication because everything was friend with EM pulse. This past week's truck hiJack on the horses was pretty cool in a "New American Western" kind of way. And they've had some terrific action scenes that blow the violence on 24 away. This was way Soap Operay at the start of the season, but is now one of the cool grittiest shows on TV. They were smart to not try and pander to CBS's Ghost Whisperer crowd.

I had too many shows on my hard drive and needed to weed a few out. Jericho started with a good premise, but then it became uninteresting to me. I think it was around the time that guy with the laptop got spotted from orbit by some satellite. I liked the survival part of the show, not so much the conspiracy part. Who was he talking to? What were they trying to do with the bombs? Why? I just stopped caring. Maybe I'll check it out tonight. I think I heard Laptop-Guy has a badge now. Ooooohhhh...

No, not even close, but it has potential, and they've got a lot more wiggle room for future seasons than some other popular shows. I just read "The Road" and I would love for Jericho to have a Season 10 that was Skeet and his little son running from cannibals. It will probably end at season3 with everything getting hunky dory. What can I say, I like Apocolyptic stuff and one of my favorite movies is Red Dawn... This is the closest we've come to Red Dawn the Tv SEries.

With shows like 24 and Prison Break stretching the laws or realism to ridiculous lengths, why is Jericho a target of stretching logic? I agree with modlight. With a dozen major cities destroyed and no communications throughout the country, the United States would be a mad house. People in this country freaked out with SARS and the Bird Flu. Imagine if hundreds of thousands of people were killed and no one knew what was going on and stuck without power? I think it is very realistic that parts of this country would be up for grabs. It's not like Battlestar Galatica where you have 50,000 or so survivors on a unified mission to find earth with only one Battlestar to protect them from the Cylons. I do agree that Jericho started out as very soapy, but they seem to have found focus and the whole New Bern/Jericho conflict has brought the show to a new level.

There was a time where CTU was a force to be reckoned with. You knew that they would save the day. Now I realize they are phenomenally incompentant. On their watch no President has not been killed or seriously wounded, 2 nuclear weapons have been detonated on US soil, several chemical attacks have occured, CTU mortality rate is way high, they might as well have 2nd graders as CTU HQ Security, Air Force one was destroyed, What else. It's getting funny to me now because I just watch it and realize how shitty they are at their job. I loved that show and wouldn't watch it with anyone else because I would get so into it that other people ruined it for me. Now I'm pissing off my girlfriend because I crack jokes the whole time.

I remember watching Red Dawn when I was a kid with my very liberal dad (I'm also a liberal) and it just pissed him off that there was something that jingoistic and off the wall, and I knew there was something there. Just because something is my favorite doesn't mean its necessarily quality. I love "Mallrats" but that movie is fucking horrible.

...that talked a good game, but had the Panty Force Field on full strength the whole time. This show is like that...full of promise but always ends up with you getting jerked off. I've watched the WHOLE thing and it has gotten good the last 3-4 episodes, but it feels like too little, too late. Most of what's happening now should have started about episode 5 or 6.

I guess 24 doesn't piss me off because I have learned to suspend all logic dealt with reality. I mean even before this year, how many people would want to live in LA after a terrorist induced nuclear meltdown and two biological weapons attack and nearly another nuclear bomb that ended up going off outside LA. There has been more terrorist attacks on LA in six seasons of 24 than there has been on US soil in the history of the real United States. As for my age, I am in my 30s and I was a kid too when Red Dawn came out. I thought it was a good, not great movie at the time. I guess I have never had a real emotional attachment to it. To me it will always be the Brat Pack's action hero movie that will go down in history as the first PG-13 movie and not much else.

But, Red Dawn, as you're older it takes on a different meaning. Its a cool snapshot of the times. My girl is Dutch and I've tried explaining to her, who had visited communist Poland when she was a kid, how much we hated and were afraid of Commies. So I threw in Red Dawn and I hadn't watched it in a while and I kind of forgot that the first scene is the Cubans coming down and blowing away innocent high schoolers. She was way freaked out. It was kind of worth it. But yeah, as for 24, I still enjoy it. This week's (completely FOX synergy free I'm sure) Die Hard moments were great, but Jack got caught a little too early. I would've been very happy to have the last 3 hours of 24 be Jack worming around CTU picking off terrorists one by one and saving his son... I mean the boy. Eddie, right? thats his name Eddie Bauer. Wait.

OK, here's my take on why it's been so long to build up with the grittiness. When the bombs first went, people sat around and expected the government to show up to save the day. Even weeks into it, with Ravenwood and those fake Marines posing as the government, people's hopes were given a roller-coaster ride. It's just now dawning on these rural towns. And they aren't even showing what's happened in the major cities, I imagine it's hell on earth with all the anarchy running rampant. Jericho lucked out because they were the farthest from the fallout areas and had a good wellwater supply and fertile land (this was pointed out in an earlier episode). It's just now after all this, in the last 4-5 episodes, that Jericho, New Bern and surrounding towns are starting to realize: no one's coming to help them. And with New Bern starving to death, shit is just now starting to hit the fan. It probably happened much sooner in the urban areas. My take on who dies: they say a town leader. It's either Eric, Johnston or Grey Anderson. Jake is too central to the plot and I think Johnston has more to offer too. Eric is kind of a last-minute cast member, I think. And Grey Anderson is kind of setting himself up for the fall, so it's either Eric or Grey.

JERICHO is a big frustration to me. The concept was great, the execution of the first episode was a solid launching point...and then they just lost their way with truly groan inducing bad soap opera to fill air time, the hallmark of "what" network execs or bad TV staff writers THINK you want to see. The bad news for JERICHO was that it really lost an incredible amount of energy almost immediately and you had weeks on end with little or nothing happening. On the plus side, whether it gets renewed for next year or not, it does seem like someone lit a fire under their ass and they've now made an actual effort to end the season (or the show) with a bang. The last few episodes have been ALOT better and more worthy of what you THOUGHT the show would be like. What frustrates me about shows like JERICHO or INVASION or SURFACE is that they just shoot themselves in the foot by dragging things out far too slowly. Hey, I can appreciate the writers saying "But we need to build the characters so you'll care about them" or them saying "But we need to build some mystery so you'll tune back in each week", but there's a difference between that and just stupifyingly slow as molasses dragging things out. Hey, if you've got an initial commitment to produce 13 episodes, then make them 13 kick ass episodes with a driving focus. If you get picked up for 13 more to round out a first season, fine, then earn your fucking paycheck AS writers and come up with 13 more compelling stories. The problem with shows like JERICHO or INVASION or SURFACE is that by the the time it's done, you seriously have to sit there long and hard and say "Wait a minute. I just watched fucking 22-24 HOURS of material, and for the life of me I can only remember about 15 minutes of any good stuff." Which is NEVER a sign of good writing or a show firing on all cylinders...

...I've watched every single damned episode. And the payoff of these last few episodes is hardly sufficient for all the crap I put up with episodes three through seventeen or so. So it better get renewed, and it better be as good as it is now all the second season. But Herc, your logic problems are way off. Believe me, if someone dropped bombs on a dozen or so strategically placed metropolitan centers, took out everyone in the line of succession down to the Secretary of Agriculture or so, and they were dirty bombs besides, it would be extremely difficult for the nation to maintain an effective centralized government. Would one likely come about in a relatively short(one to five year) period of time? Yeah, assuming outside players didn't interfere with the process. And was the Jericho outline kind of stupid? Yeah, because it would be governors who would most likely be claiming some sort of executive status. They have the infrastructure and the guys with guns to call on. Jericho mentioned a few senators naming themselves President, and unless somewhere down the line they explain that it was a fix and these guys were backed by Blackwater...er...Ravenwood it will never make a lick of sense. And those governors would likely be claiming the executive authority in what they saw as an attempt to protect the citizens of their state from having their resources stripped to help people in other states or being overwhelmed by huge amounts of refugees. And, of course, there would also probably be some making naked grabs for power. Seriously, Herc, refer to the aftermath of the collapse of nearly any strong central government. Jericho has plenty of problems, from its tendency toward Hallmark presents the Apocalypse to soap opera silliness to plot points that only arise when they're needed, with no foreshadowing, and just as often little aftereffects, but the basic premise of a near collapse, especially with Ravenwood clearly on the other side (and Herc, there are over a hundred thousand contractors in Iraq and our own world's Blackwater is constructing three huge training facilities right here on US soil, so their numbers and better equipment isn't that much of a stretch, especially considering the havoc the initial attack would have played with assembling, equipping, feeding and deploying the Guard) isn't that much of a stretch.

Yeah, that's it -- and for watching this show all season long we get fucked up the ass. Great. So going back to my previous post, which is now prophetic since I wrote it before tonight's show aired, once again we have a series that got sold based around a Hollywood high concept pitch, it gets greenlit, it even manages to run a full season which gives them plenty of time to win over loyal fans...and in the end you've now watched hours upon hours of material with practically nothing memorable to look back on. 22 hours of material later, literally NOTHING has changed. Oh wait, I take that back. One of the stars is now dead, but even that has little impact since dumb fucks that you are you had him GET SHOT OFF CAMERA. Then again I'm sure the half wits that picked up their paychecks for writing this tripe will argue "But no! It ended on several good notes! Look, we showed a FLAG to show the country was rebuilding! We showed Jake being a man and holding a gun and the final fade out was bullets being fired, to show they were taking a stand! See? It's all thematic! We gave the fans a cool ending!" Yeah, right. In the meantime we still don't know WHY any bombs originally went off, what Bald Guy was really after, who he was in cahoots with, why Jake disappeared for so many years, what REALLY happened to him overseas, what the state of the country REALLY is like outside of Jericho. In short, we're left with far more questions than any answers that were given. I mean, Dogapeandman2 is right above. So let me get this straight: you're telling us that the big secret that was behind everything was the fact that our government who controls our lives daily nuked the entire country...uh, so the government could take over and control our lives daily. Riiiight. Because THAT makes so much sense! And speaking of the writing, a shout out to the hacks who wrote tonight's episode and decided to telegraph Jakes "Nuts" reply a million miles away in true heavy ham fisted way. Oh, and since you decided to off Gerald McRaney, nice job WASTING the episode on a totally POINTLESS flashback to a wedding toast (pointless since who gives a shit about Eric's wedding to April since she's been DEAD several episodes now) as OPPOSED to revealing in flashback "why" Jake actually ever left town or even using the time far more wisely and emotionally to show Jake telling his Dad in private, in his final moments, "what" he had really been up to overseas -- thus giving his Dad some peace AND giving us viewers at least SOME story closure there as well on at least ONE dangling story point. Seriously, in an open letter appeal, you stupid twats who are on the JERICHO writing staff suck and deserve to be fired. You deserve to be put out on the streets and have your show cancelled for foisting such bullshit on us a full season long. But, hey, look on the bright side: least now you'll have plenty of time to take a course in Screenwriting 101 at the Learning Annex. Maybe THEN you could actually can write a good episode of TV!

Maybe the writers of Jericho have taken a leaf out of the lost writers and realised that as long as a season starts well and ends well who'll give a flying fuck about the stuff in between. Although in saying that, I personally prefer Jericho to Lost, I gave up on Lost about 3/4ers of the way through the 1st season and have only seen a few episodes here and there after that. Still want to know what the smoke monster was all about :)

the implication that the military is gonna swoop in and stop the fighting. In fact, it would have been much better if we saw no semblance of an organized government until the end of Season 2 (assuming it's renewed). They've built up the fight with New Bern for the last several episodes, and to end it like that will just be lame. As for Season 2, I would love to see the entire first episode devoted to a flashback of sorts showing what New Bern has been through since the bombs went off. As much as they've tried to make Constantino the villain, it would nice to see what has pushed him to such drastic measures.

Such as the fact no one in Jericho has apparently ever spent 2 seconds reading anything remotely related to basic military tactics, since they waited until the enemy arrived, set up, and fortified before even thinking about getting a few snipers up high. Retarded. And the death tonight was just brutal - the only intelligent, engaging character on the show is killed off ? I'd have whacked Dale and turned his little girlfriend into the town slut.

You obviously missed the point that this is a flag DIFFERENT from the stars and stripes that flies above your elementary school. In fact, this is a reference to the "civil flag" designed in the 1790's, and often used as a "future flag" by some supremacist groups. In addition, this flag has only 21 stars. All in all, your post has demonstrated that your frustration with Jericho rests on your inability to understand it. So I suggest you return to Jimmy Neutron cartoons while playing "Grand Theft Auto," and leave critical writings to those who can string a sentences together without betraying their lack of understanding of what they are writing about. And in you have any trouble with any of the vocabulary used in THIS post, I would suggest a dictionary. He wasn't just the town tactician, he was THE DECORATED COMBAT MARINE VET. So it was good see that all his Marine training and all his firsthand experience in war served him so well in the end! (Insert mocking eyeroll here...) Then again I still can't decide what was stupider. The fact that, yes, he didn't even walk behind the tank for protection OR (as I said above) the fact that despite being one of the lead characters, someone you've followed all season long, he got shot OFF screen as well...
