...much to brag about. These threads aren't highly trafficked, but that doesn't mean there aren't people here who appreciate your work, ScoreKeeper. Thanks!

As for McCreary, with that Coaxial thread about the best moments in TV last year, I rewatched Exodus Part II. Damn, that has such an awesome score. McCreary really has invented a new paradigm for scoring genre content.

... is just the best new composer out there. BSG is brilliant. Can't wait to hear the psychotic banjo.

Why are we predicting the death of Battlestar Galactica? Even RDM doesn't know its expiration date, but it won't go past season 5 (which, you know, would be the January-May 2009 season, most likely). Nice try, especially since Season 4 doesn't even start filimg til next week. :-D

Is brilliant. The themes he's made for the series are pretty iconic and the show wouldn't be nearly as good without him. And the "Watchtower" cover he did for the season finale was amazing. I'll be buying the soundtrack for that song alone.

How about interviewing some different composers instead of the same guy twice in a year? So he does a sci-fi series and a shitty direct-to-video feature. Whoopdedoo. One major film festival just ended and another is going on. The summer movie season is starting. Lots of other people with more interesting chops are working, too.

I for one will always look forward to news on McCreary. He’s a breath of fresh air in the otherwise static world of film and television scoring. Name one soundtrack that came out in the past few years that will stand the test of time? Not so easy is it. I too love Bear’s work for BSG. "Wrong Turn 2?!?" Awesome. You know Henry Rollins is going to open up a can of whoop ass on some W. Virginia inbreeds. Maybe McCreary can rework a Rollins Band song for the soundtrack?

I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more fretless bass! And sitars. And Dylan.

You go ahead and have a chat with John Williams or Danny Elfman, lalalandlovechild, and I'm sure it'll get posted.

So the movie counts as part of the 22?

Man, if I was still excited about this show, I'd be pissed. I hate when SciFi puts spin on things. They made it sound like there would be a 22 episode season and the DVD movie would be separate from that. Oh well. At least the show still has an awesome soundtrack.

... along w/ a few other noteworthy (and relatively new) names, like Charlie Clouser, Gustavo Santaolalla and Javier Navarrete. But none compare to McCreary -- his stuff is magnificent! Anyone lucky (or close) enough to get to see him perform BSG music live, GO!! Sounds like a phenomenal opportunity. Would love to hear a report on such a concert hereabouts...

Alien 3?

What does Alien 3 have to do with this thread? Elliot Goldenthal scored the movie, not McCreary, or any of the other composers mentioned here. Having said that, yes, his score for the movie is awesome. It was one of the first scores I really noticed, outside of John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith.

I do hope he gets some serious film scores. Rest Stop sounds like like it'll be a cool score and all, but given the diversity of what he's created for BSG he doesn't need to be pinholed into the low budget horror genre.

This is what Sci-Fi said when they announced 22 eps:

SCI FI has renewed Battlestar Galactica for a full fourth season, commissioning 22 hour-long episodes of "the best show on television." This will include a special two-hour extended event that will air during fourth quarter 2007 and be released on DVD by Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Production will resume in May with an eye toward a early 2008 season premiere.
