Judging by the fantastic Layer Cake, in which everything except the writing felt classic. I'm glad Vaughn left X3 to make something original, and I expect more great things from him in the future. Guy who?
Looking forward to this.

Thanks, Moriarty. This looks like a great original film among a sea of sequels.

Mori is globetrotting and catching red eye flights (where ostensibly, he's writing his reviews), but Quint needs 6 months to read a couple hundred jokes?

(as Paulie would say, "just busting your balls, Quint!")

Agreed...

Glad he didn't end up with X-3 and instead looks to be doing a worthwhile comic adaptation. Even though X-3 probably would've been a hell of a lot better if Vaughn got his hands on it. What was his family emergency again?
It's okay, Drew...

...until I saw the trailer in front of SPIDER-MAN 3, the other night. Given the source material and the cast, I thought it would probably be awesome, but the trailer looks like what would happen if the people who made THE 10TH KINGDOM re-made THE PRINCESS BRIDE. It looks like a cheap and derivative exercise. This Vaughn cat just isn't doing it for me. It's a shame Terry Gilliam's last two films have sucked and fucked up his cred in Hollywood, because HE is the kind of visionary director they need to go to for this kind of film, not the guy who made the way-the-fuck-overrated LAYER CAKE, who helped clusterfuck X3, and who thought SWEPT AWAY was a good idea.

If we're going to extend the metaphor, he showed me his big one.

i love those "and then i chatted with [insert man/woman I'd like to but will never meet]" articles. especially if they aren't written as arrogantly as by other folks in the film web world. the review though is quite insightful. and...i hated that trailer too but...good lord...it's just a damn trailer.

--how good the reviews for this flick are so far, because I thought the book was not that great. And I say that as a big fan of Neil Gaiman, but Stardust was a victim of his terrible lack of an ability to satisfyingly pace an ending.

You should have kicked him in the face for the evil that was Take That, Mori. I'd relight his fucking fire alright. With kerosene. >:D

Really looking forward to the film though, even if I do have to run out of the theatre at then end to avoid the closing credits song.

i still have no idea whats going on. it's a movie about a party right? with jonathan ross's wife right ( he's like the egbert / david letterman of movies here in england and a comic book geek, so i wonder how he'll rate his missus film)

and tehre's gary barlow from take that, and a couple of other engliash actors liek ricky gervais who all are chums with jonathan ross)

i saw a little preview of thhis, and honestly can't say i that excited

please bear in mind

If you plan on using mass transit, check the MTA website for service advisories. The weekend is when they usually do work on the subway, and I know that problem coming in from JFK; I live along that line. Best advice, though, is to bite the bullet and pay the $40 plus for the cab ride from the airport. It's worth it just to get to your hotel directly so you can unwind.

Sounds like you had a good time, though. I'm looking forward to this film. It reassures me that the system can still recognize an interesting story and nurture it onto the screen. It's a miracle anything decent makes it out at all.

We've been getting a lot of live these past few weeks from aintitcool... THANKS!

I too am suprised that he liked the film... the trailer wasn't very good, but I'll give it a chance...

They need to either move that release date up a week or move it to the 3rd week in July... That August 10th is not gonna work...

I may check STARDUST out when it's released. I like some of Gaiman's stuff, though his graphic novels are better than his prose efforts. There wasn't a need to hard-sell TRANSFORMERS, by the way; sorry---a live action toy commercial for 10 year olds ain't selling here.
The Best Thing About Stardust : Vaughn's Character Work

Yes, I've seen it. It's a faithful, yet highly evolved working of Gaiman's whimsical story. It's also a good barometer of Vaughn's maturity as a director in that he's able to paint real characters in truly dramatic situations without resorting to cliche or melodramatics. Neil Gaiman laid a golden goose upon his doorstep, and Vaughn and Jane Goldman have wrangled that bird into a dark, thrilling, comic fantasy worthy of its pedigree. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the sleeper of the summer.
Damn. Hook me up next time you're here, Mori.

has anyone noticed that the airship bits of the stardust movie trailer (especially the crashing on the water bit) are really similar to a fantasy novel called cloudworld that came out last year in England? is there so much airship stuff in the original novel??
