I know Locke getting pushed out a window was good, but the best moment in that episode was the ending, when Locke pushes the door open and sees Cooper all tied up.

and in fairness, I'd also prefer to see the last 3 episodes before voting for a best moment...i have a feeling these last few eps are going to kind 10 different kinds of ass.

Sawyer/Sawyer

The most memorable so far is Locke's father being revealed to be "Sawyer." That gave me more goosebumps than anything else that has happened. 24's Vambauer might be second if the last few episodes hadn't been so lame - I'm categorizing the whole season as forgettable now, so by definition no moment could be the most memorable.

Medium cool...
by Napoleon Park
May 7th, 2007
03:24:19 PM
Sorry I can't pin this down with episode titles or actors names, but there was an episode or medium where one ghost breaks the news to another ghost that he's dead. Eventually they wander back to the first ghost house where we see the murder victim's obese and remarkably calm and even bored looking wife settle down with a leg in one hand and a hacksaw in the other to dismember the corpse. Even the ghost was grossed out and said "Uh, let's go, I don't want to watch this." Call it sick humor, but I loved that moment. (and I understand some lost fans seem to have hated the series only stand alone episode, the Paulo/Nikki episode with it's EC Comics Tales From The Crypt/Twilight Zone twist ending. But the moment when paralyzed Nikki's eyes popped open just as the shovel full of sand hit her face is in the dictionary next to the word "memorable". *** although I have to admit the one you cited, cheerleader Claire's "topless" scene on the autopsy table was one of the years major "Holy Shit!!!" moments.

I got a laugh. That's all I needed. Now, how is it that I've missed nearly every episode of Lost this season, yet know pretty much everything that has happened? [Talkbacks, that's how.] And am I the only one that wasn't shocked when Locke's dad pushed him out the window? I mean, I didn't specifically see that coming, but I figured something was bound to happen that episode that explained Locke's non-walking, and that seemed like the right moment for it to happen? Maybe my generation really is desensitized.

That was from The Lost Room miniseries on scifi. He had to cut out his own eye in order to stick in this glass eye that he'd gotten ahold of that had special powers. I'm gonna have to think a bit longer to come up with a solid suggestion. I think saying "anything with Hiro" isn't quite gonna cut it. The problem is that Hiro doesn't have tons of specifically awesome moments, because he's so awesome in general. So that's of no help when you're trying to nail down one supremely memorable moment.

I mean there are plenty of best moments on Heroes... Sylar throwing Claire into a wall and then watching her regenerate in Homecoming Future Hiro's first appearance The whole Five Years Past episode but if you had to pick some it would be Sylar killing Claire or the last five minutes of the show with Sylar and Peter battling even though we don't even see it but the best moment of all shows all season would have to be in Heroe when HRG gets shot, says "I love you Claire-Bear" and "Go deep, take anything that will lead to her" and then allowing his memory to be taken away in The Company Man. I mean that moment was amazing, intense, emotional, and everything that you wish all shows would be like

Lost - The final minutes of "The Glass Ballerina" when Ben reveals to Jack what's been happening in the outside world. Battlestar Galactica - The Galactica making an FTL jump into New Caprica's atmosphere. Heroes - "Five Years Later" was pretty much the best single episode of any TV show this year. The Office - Halpert pulling off an brilliant impersonation of Dwight. My Name is Earl - In a show filled with in-jokes, Norm McDonald showing up to play the son of Burt Reynold's character was hilarious. 30 Rock - The Jack vs. Kenneth poker showdown.

The Atmo Jump (forever capitalized).

Tommy Gavin beating the FUCK (literally) out of his brother Johnny when he realizes that Johnny is fucking his ex-wife (from Rescue Me).

How many times in one day can someone be captured then break free, then be captured again only to repeat the whole thing. I mean, seriously, how many times this season was Jack captured then escaped? I didnt even see the whole season and I can think of at least three. Jack captured by Fayed. Jack captured by his brother. Jack captured by the Russians. Am I missing anything?

also on The Wire... "the ring cycle" as I like to call it. Bunk's face when Jimmy refuses to go for a drink. Omar taking the whole fucking shipment. Omar's walk through West Baltimore in his dressing gown. Omar stabbing a guy in the asshole. The opening scene with the nail gun. Freamon being the smartest goddamn detective since Sherlock Holmes.

And on Rome... Mark Anthony on learning Atia and Octavia have arrived /exhales a huge plume of opium smoke/ "what do you mean...here?". Pretty much any Mark Anthony moment in fact. Cicero's death. Timon stabbing his own brother (although I wished they'd follwed it up more) and finally the very last scene with Pullo and Ceasarian walking through the streets of Rome supposedly undercover and Ceasarian screaming ridiculous egyptian curses on Octavian and his family. Surely HBO are going to make a Pullo/Ceasarian half hour sitcom spin off.

Hiro trying hard to teleport and his joy at landing in NYC at the start of Heroes and the revelation that he was in the future was a an iconic moment for numerous reasons: It introduced us to the style that the show would be - enthusisastic and go for broke. It revealed a major plot point for the year both to us and the character, that Hiro can travel in time. It was the debut of a major new talent in Masi Oka, and a character who was immediately relatable and, let's face it, the most beloved in the cast and possibly on TV. His hands held high victory stance is even the iconic Heroes pose. The moment and revelation was unexpected, joyous, scary at the end, pushed the plot, and announced a major new show and talent. Iconic.

My favorite first: DEADWOOD: end of ep. 33 - Everyone has gone to amateur night. Al is alone behind the bar at the Gem, cleaning the counter like a regular barkeep. He sings a song, performing for an audience of no one. Wow...just wow. Also: ROME - Servillia's death -"Attia of the Juliard, I call for justice." Antony - "Now that's an exit." Also: DEADWOOD (again): Trixie walks up to Hearst's room - barebreasted, and pops a cap in his ass. Nice.

1. Locke falling was an intense and memorable moment. 2. South Park "Naggers." Anyone that saw that moment, which hit like a punch in the face, will never forget it. Hilarious. 3. The eye opening right before the dirt hit on the Nikki and Paulo episode of LOST.

I finally had to register to post on this site, after four years of lurking... BSG, last ep of this season, when all the madness of the jump is going on and the four crew are starting to finally understand the song they have been hearing and they start to sing it. The moment I realized they were singing "watchtower" I jumped out of my chair. When they started moving to the same place I realized what was happening and I declared "OH MAN!" The Flaming Twinky Atmo Jump (FTAJ) was really awesome, but the moment when the four realized their true nature brought the season, maybe the entire show, to it's knees. Well done and easily the best thing I've seen on TV for a long time.

in no particular order: 1. Galactica's FTL atmo-jump (a genuinely searing image if ever there was one) 2. Desmond buying the ring for the second time (a truly WTF moment) 3. Locke falling out the window 4. the All Along the Watchtower sequence. I like Heroes and the OC too, but those are the most memorable moments i can think of (and if i couldn't think of them, they couldn't have been that memorable).

So much quality TV right now. Fure Hiro and Peter in the subway, because it set up so much and was the first real WTF moment of Heroes. Starbuck at the end of BSG. Galactica has always been solid but that was literally jaw dropping. Then again, just BSG in general for showing that a "genre" show can be more thought provoking then any conventional drama could ever be. Exactly what science fiction is supposed to do. Apparently the only fan here, but John Winchester's deal to save his son on Supernatural.

I've got a huge soft spot for Studio 60, and I'd put the Christmas episode up there. I watched The Wire so long ago, I almost forgot about it, but tons of it would be on there. And I think Desmond's first episode this year has been my favorite Lost episode so far this year. There HAS to be a more definitive moment this year for me though, I'll post back when i have one. MAYBE Logan intentionally getting arrested just so he can beat the hell out of the rapists on Veronica Mars. Or Lamb's death.

06:36:29 PM
I'm going to have to side with "The Atmo Jump" too. In fact, I'll just outright say it, "Exodus, Part II" was one of the best hours of television I have ever seen. Everything from the tender turned tragic scene between Tigh and Ellen that begins the episode to the end, when Adama is lifted in the air by his crew, only to recognize the gravity of Tigh’s sacrifice, which is echoed by Starbuck. If you look closely, you can even see a timid Jammer backing away from Tigh as he passes by, hinting at things to come. On a different note, am I the only one that found the "All Along The Watchtower" sequence under whelming? I suppose the visuals were interesting enough, but I hated that incarnation of the song. Why not use the original? I suppose it would've bankrupted BSG’s entire FX budget and we wouldn't have been treated to "The Atmo Jump" earlier that season. Besides, I hear the Hendrix estate is in a tizzy over music rights, which is one of the reasons we can’t expect a Hendrix biopic anytime soon.

Well, I started watching Deadwood 3x01 to refresh my memory. My god...I'd forgotten how wonderful this series was. I guess I was so disappointed in the series finale that I started to block it out. Anyway, I can affirm mrtwig48's suggestion of Dan Dority's fight with George Hearst's man, Captain Turner, and the subsequent eye gouging.

I'm sure we coudl also include any random scene with Swearengen and either Wu, or Brian Cox's character, Jack Langrishe.

On another note...I'm glad to see all the positive comments about the season finale of BSG. The comments at the time seem to have been pretty negative...oh, the difference a month makes.

The magnitude can probably best be explained in the sense that BSG never revealed its hand prior to that episode. There was absolutely no hint or clue as to how in the frak Adama was going to rescue the Fleet off New Caprica. Much like the attack in "Hand of God", we watched in amazement as the plan played itself out...UNSPOILED. It was one hell of a tactical maneuver and one that no one saw coming (IMHO).

Your other BSG moments are all great in their own regard.

Forgive my ignorance. I was merely trying to understand why the producers felt a cover was necessary. 1. The Sopranos: J.T. Dolan, talking to Christopher, "You're in the Mafia." Christopher's pistol to J.T. Dolan's head, "Bang." Typical Sopranos moment: just when you are on the verge of caring for one of the gang, David Chase lowers the boom and reminds you what sociopaths are really like. 2. 24: Jack Bauer using his teeth to rip out his captor's throat. (Now that is something I would never expect to see the likes of on Heroes.) 3. Lost: John Locke being pushed out the hotel window and then, in the present, being reunited with his father. 4. The Wire: Bodie facing death alone and dying whilst defending his corner on the streets of Baltimore. 5. Battlestar Gallactica: Kara Thrace redux and her promise to lead Lee and the Colonists, with the Cylons in tow, to Earth. 6. Heroes: The introduction of future Hiro. I do not know if it will save the cheerleader or event the world, but it kept me recording this show.

by DarthCorleone
May 7th, 2007
08:25:39 PM
I'm not saying a great moment has to be a surprise. I think for pure dramatic satisfaction the Sawyer murder of Sawyer was great and a worthy nominee, and that was certainly easily predictable. But the 24 nuke...yeah, it needed to be a surprise to be worthy in and of itself. Frankly, I'm a little surprised that some viewers were surprised. Don't get me wrong - it was a good moment. I just knew as soon as the nuke was introduced that it was going to go off. Why? Because they hadn't blown up a nuke in a major city before on the show. (And what a failure to capitalize on the chaos that should have followed that incident.) Now...when you combine the nuke with Jack's killing Curtis, his vomiting, his look of despair at the mushroom cloud and saying that he couldn't do this anymore...then it becomes a worthy nominee. But the blast alone? Meh.

I'd love to vote for Sylar on heroes just being the best/most interesting bad guy on tv that I've seen this year (except perhaps Dexter), but I guess that's not really a moment. I'd probably go for the scene where Claude throws Peter off the roof unexpectdly onto that cab. That was pretty awesome.

Any surprise moment of LOST from episode 7...
by ccchhhrrriiisssm

09:18:56 PM
...until the end of the season! This has been an incredible season!!! . . . . 24 was blah. . . . . The Sopranos bored us all. . . . . Heroes was pretty good, but not LOST quality. . . . . Rome was GREAT but not quite Season 1 quality. . . . . House and Grey's Anatomy was the same week after week after week. . . . . My $$$ is on ANY of the many "WOW!" moments from LOST: Season 3 (from episode 7 onward ...and perhaps the death of Mr. Eko). Great stuff! LOST will certainly win several Emmy and Golden Globe nods -- or the awards show industry will have "lost" all credibility! ... ... ... ... 'Nuff said!
Why the FTL jump was so cool
by McDee
May 7th, 2007
09:19:11 PM
For the jump itself, no one saw it coming. The Galactica isn't a ship that's made for atmosphere work, that's why they have Raptors. It wasn't like the Enterprise(s) where it was shot down and flaming through the sky, it was a deliberate tactic to launch a surprise attack against a vastly superior enemy. they jumped in and wasn't *entirely* sure they could jump back out in time. The episode itself was simply amazing. When the Galactica was pretty much going down for the count against 4 basestars, the camera pulled back to show something so huge, yet extremely tiny in the vastness of space, and the Pegasus is bearing down with back up, at ramming speed. In First Contact, Worf ordered out "Ramming Speed", but BSG actually did it, taking out basetars with it. With something just dripping with ultra cool effects, it also had some real human drama. Saul Tigh killing his own wife because she had betrayed them, (and that performance deserves a frakking Emmy), Starbuck going through a severe mindfuck, which didn't end jsut cause she got off the planet, the bitter sweet reunion at the end. I could go on and on. Heroes is amazing and I'm totally addicted to it, but BSG is some of the best television, ever. I geek out on a lot of shows, but BSG just the best.

Some of the coolest scenes of the year were on The Riches and CSI.

Doug Rich dying in Waynes arms. Man that was sad.

Dale killing his father.

BSG: Pegasus rescuing Galactica (absolutely the best). Deadwood: Al's balcony-to-balcony bitching out of Hearst after slitting his man's throat ("How's the fucking back there, pal") South Park: Randy Marsh dropping the n-bomb on wheel of fortune. Mal: Seeing Mal on network TV again, though short-lived.

When Future Hiro confronted Peter on the train. Especially, the line "I almost didn't recognize you without your scar." Come on, everyone, you know when that happened, the Talkback was INSANE the next day. Definitely, the #1 moment of the year (and this cemented Heroes as a pretty darn good show).

Believing he can fly, Peter leaps from the playground monkey bars and falls flat on his face. Camera pans to a bemused child who's apparently been watching Petrelli do this over and over again. LOL. I call that memorable because, well, I remembered it, didn't I? *** Agreed, "Flames on House's cane > House puffing Sherlock Holmes pipe." (Also the ten year old boy overdosed on testosterone grabbing Cameron's boob.) *** About Watchtower. Bob Dylan wrote the song and recorded the original version. The Jimi Hendrix Experience did a rock arrangement and recorded the DEFINITIVE version. And it should be easy to find covers - Dave Mason and Stevie Ray Vaugn also covered the Hendrix version - even Dylan, on Live At Budokon, used the Jimi Hendrix arrangement.

But that Other book club meeting being interupted by 815 breaking apart over head in the season opener of Lost was also breathtaking to watch. But, I still gotta say, even though we knew all along Locke was gonna take a dive...finding out it was his own Dad doing the pushing...was just priceless. My final Lost vote goes to Nikki & Paulo being buried alive...that fucked up shit put chills down Stephen King's damn spine! Oh...and the massive fight that Peter Griffin got into with the giant chicken last Sunday on FG...between the alligator beating...the ferris wheel ride...the crashing of the plane...the city exploding to bits...the patching things up and going to dinner...the fight over the check...and the ultimate chicken brain splattering pan smashing climax....followed by the chicken's eye popping open afterward...yeah...pretty good moment.

Omar's broken clock on THE WIRE
by ChickenGeorgeVII
May 8th, 2007
02:25:58 AM
The moment when Omar brought his clock into Prop Joe's shop, walking right past a very armed Cheese and Slim Charles, and when Prop Joe asks what's wrong with the clock Omar pulling out that cannon and simply stating "It's outta time." Just like Prop Joe was if he did not adhere to Omar's offer.....Second best moment...Omar coming back...repeating the exact same entry past Cheese and Slim and handing his work slip to Prop Joe ....and PROP JOE GIVING BACK THE FIXED CLOCK! Classic Omar and WIRE coolness and humor....just like Omar sticking up every hop-house...even once unarmed in his jammies.....And thus, Omar don't scare! - - - George, The 7th Chicken!!!!

Heroes all the way...except for Raines
by KCMOSHer
May 8th, 2007
03:26:59 AM
Yes, future Hiro on the train nabs the single best moment. Before then, the show was good, very interesting, tons of promise...but you expected it to still be 'mainstream TV takes on comic book stories'. That one scene, throwing every single thing you expected right out the window, set the tone. It was that moment that not only changed that show, but I predict will change television over time. It's the next evolutionary step to how excellent TV serials should be handled, following Lost's amazing first season (and subsequent crappy seasons). However, pound for pound, 'Five Years Gone' is an Emmy winner. The show dives headfirst into very dangerous storytelling waters. For TV, mucking around with your characters in such a way is a risky thing, you worry about losing/confusing viewers, etc. For comics, you are going right for the throat of possibly the finest and most famous story in team-hero comics: Days of Future Past. It managed to do both better than anyone could have expected. A ton of shocks and surprises, our first dose of true super-powered combat, no small amount of amazing performances (Milo gets bonus points for Future-Peter) and all of it feeling right at home with a -first fricking season- show. I don't know if Raines is getting any love, but I loved every second of it, and the reveal at the end of the pilot that his partner is dead just sank home the deep sadness that Raines lives in, and how it's entirely understandable that his coping mechanism isn't exactly...sane. Plus, hell, the final line to the cemetary groundskeeper was fantastic.
Wouldn't say best moment ever, but really good.

according to Ron Moore, the SciFi Channel apparently offered to get the rights to the Dylan original but Moore refused. He thought it was jarring enough to use the song & it would have been too much of a stretch to use the actual Dylan (or Hendrix) version. Apparently, it's supposed to be Watchtower as recorded by some Caprican singer.

The one episode this season I haven't deleted from Tivo

Out of all the shows I've watched this year, there's only one episode from all of them I can't delete from my Tivo even knowing that the DVD will be out this summer: Battlestar Galactica's Exodus - Part II. Why? An absolutely astounding hour of television with epic battles worthy of the biggest summer blockbuster movies serving as background for some intensely dark and delicate human drama. Out of all that greatness, one scene will never be forgotten. It's TV's equivalent of the ass-kicking awe of seeing that Star Destroyer fill the screen in the opening of Star Wars that first time in 1977...others have mentioned it multiple times, and with good reason...two words: ATMO JUMP!

BSG: FTL atmo jump, Bob Dylan remix awesomeness along with the cylons revealed at the end of the season, Xena gettin boxed.

LOST: Ben showing Locke Cooper on the island, Locke's dive out the window, Shot of the plane breaking up over Othersville, what happened to Desmond when he activated the failsafe, "YOU SPEAK TO ME AS IF I WERE YOUR BROTHER".

Hands down, the end of Galactica's season, not just because Starbuck's return because despite the huge press surrounding it, there was a faint feeling she'd return, but the whole last several minutes as we listen to Along the Watchtower. Not only did they reveal 4 of the Final 5 to be mostly characters we've been following for awhile, but the used the song incredibly well, Starbuck's sudden return, and then that amazing site of Earth with a promise to the audience that we'll get there eventually. My number 2 choice would probably be President Petrelli shapeshifting back into Sylar. Number 3: Locke verifying the law of gravity.

by _Maltheus_

I am also on board with the atmo-jump perhaps tied with Tigh killing Ellen. Both scenes from the same episode. Too bad BSG has come to be my least favorite regular show I watch, possibly to be dropped from my schedule soon. Exodus II. was the only show in the last five years that had me continually jumping out of me seat. But I'll always see the finale as one of the most disgraceful moments in TV history.

That being said, Heroes, "Five Years Later" was pretty close to Exodus II for me. Seeing Nathan taking off in front of those people, wondering WTF, just before finding out he was Sylar.

I also love when Dexter revealed his moves to that cop who was always hounding him. That was probably my third favorite moment from this past year. I was out of my seat for that one too.

Rome has too many good moments to pick one, so it doesn't make my top three.

The Prison Break Season 2 premiere with Veronica's death was pretty memorable. They shot her in the head and the heart. Then in case we thought she might not be completely dead, the Secret Service guys sawed her into sections and unceremoniously dumped h
