I dunno if I've ever said more than 2 bad things about "24" in its 6 year history, I even liked this season up until the last two episodes, but these past two eps have been utter crap. I hope they can pull it out of the gutter for a decent finale, hopefully having a decent enough ending to get into season 7.

Also, when/if you do let him out (on condition of no more spoilers ever) please send him back to the 24 lot with all the season 6 talkbacks, forum posts and criticism you can find so the writers know how much they truly messed up this season.

Regarding This Season
by Mankind

You know, I was talking to some friends today who are SO EXCITED about the last few episodes. They're not "big" fans or talkbackers or the kinds of people who post on the 24 forum. They're just people who like the show, and they were excited. So I got to thinking. Is this season really that bad? Has it really been that much worse than what we've seen before? Thinking about it, I had to answer yes. It really has been less than the other seasons. So many wasted opportunities. Something promising would come up (Say, Jack VS Jack's brother, Jack vs Jack's Father, Jack VS President Logan, the return of Aaron Peirce), and things would just fizzle out (the promising person would die or dissapear). But see, here's my problem. There's only one thing that terrifies me more than what they'll do next episode--it's what they'll do next season. REBOOT is the scairest word in entertainment. The logic of the REBOOT is the same crap that gave Superman a kid. REBOOTS can be the most terrible, awful thing that happens. Racking my brain, I can't really think of a reboot that has ever worked outside of Madonna's every-ten-year-makeovers. To be honest, I don't really care about whether the writers stay true to what everybody loves about the show in their "REBOOT." All I care about is whether the writers stay true to what _I_ care about on this show. See, here's what nobody's admitting: Season 5 killed this show, not season 6. Because of the insanely high body count in Season 5, there were few characters left that we cared about. In the past, they've done a good job of bringing in new characters to see which ones "took," as the cycled through the older characters and finished off their story arcs. In season 5, they got rid of nearly eveybody, new AND old, and left us with nobody to care about this season. With nobody to care about, there wasn't the same emotional investment there was before. Add that to the missed opportunties, and the rate at which interesting characters dissapear this season, and you've got the reason why this season tanked. So here's my message to the writers: Go back and watch the first two seasons, and pick apart every scene. Notice the way nothing is ever quite on the level. Notice the way there's usually at least one person in the scene if you're not sure you're supposed to trust or not. Notice the way Tony doesn't get around to chewing out Mason for leaving CTU early until AFTER Mason has been told he's going to die. The way the only person Jack can chew out at the White House about the deaths at CTU is the one person who was actually trying to help him. You guys have missed all of that this season. We always knew who the bad guys were. We always knew who was going to say what. Everyone always said what they meant and we knew what they were going to say. In some episodes, they said the same things over and over and over. Remember, the real suspense of the show doesn't come from relationships, it comes from moral decisions. When you give Jack (or Tony, or Michelle, or Palmer) the choice between two terrible decisions with great costs, which one will he (or she) choose? That's why when you get off course (with the babies at CTU or the horrible blackmail plotlines at the white house in season 3) a lot of us start to wonder whether you really understand whether you "get" why this show works. Get back to writing scripts where people aren't given a scene together until they have a reason to be at each other's throats. Get back to creating terrible situations where there are no good choices, so even a super hero like Jack Bauer has become can't possibly save the day completely. Get back to putting in the irony that seemed to underscore so much of what seemed to be happening on the surface. And don't be afraid to plan arcs. I know you've been able to get by without doing it before. But just because you CAN do something, doesn't neccesarily mean you SHOULD. In fact, that would be the ONLY reboot I would suggest for S7. Figure out an arc ahead of time. Just try it. Like a lot of shows, you'll probably find more room in the arc than you might have suspected to play and mess around as you write individual episodes. You've got at least one new writer who's done some of this season's better episodes who has some experience working with arcs. At the start of the season, just stop and say to yourselves, if we only had one more season of 24, what would be the story we'd want to do? What could we really do with this if we wanted to make it our greatest season ever? And then run with that. We know you can do it. We believe in you. You've done it before. Knock us out again.

I enjoy watching each season straight through, maybe watch 4 or 5 episode's one after another. Even though you know what's going to happen, I find it much more exciting then when it's on originally. "Lost" is the same way. Hopefully this season, easily the weakest, will be the same way.

5 great seasons in a row, they were bound to stumble eventually. How many other shows have remained good for so long?

Of course, what do I know: I love both 24 and Heroes.

trouble with 24 is that they write the 1st 4 episodes and write blind after that. now the world is a small place, and there are only a certain amount of bombs, ways to torture people, and races to hate, that I think the writers should next time think about getting some fucking aliens in space ships to take jack away for some interstella bauer action, cos I am sorry, apart from last episode, this is real car crash TV. so bad it is cringeworthy. for all you people who say, oh well they have to stumble at some point, i say no. Any good scriptwriter in the world would be proud to work on something like 24 and in that respect, the world is a big place. The very poor last few episodes for me, are indicative of the producers shoving to much coke up their noses, and being unable to actually see that what they are actually producing is utter shit.

That's madness! No wonder this season sucked. I wouldn't dream of starting the season without having all 24 hours mapped out. You always have plenty of time to revise things later as you are filming (they do that all the time, anyway), but you should know what all your major points are that you need to hit & when you need to hit them. You don't want the pressure of having to come up with this stuff mid-season when you don't have the time to do it right.

This the exact same thing that LOST was dealing with the past couple seasons. They didn't know what (or when) their endpoint would be and so they start treading water & making filler episodes & everything starts to suck. This season of 24 has had major pacing problems from the start. There will be these awsome moments (Nuke, Curtis, Jack taking down all the terrorists solo) and then things will lag for 2-3 episodes with Jack Bauer being completely M.I.A. and all this White House crap just dragging.

And the whole thing with Jacks brother & father? It's like they just pulled that out of their ass & then had no idea what to do with it. Now Bluetooth Bro is dead & Jacks father has just disappeared off the face of the Earth.

Next season: change it up & MAP IT OUT! A scenery change would be nice but it's not necessary, it's more that the focus of the show has to change. More charcter driven, more psychological. I want to get inside Jacks head & see what makes him tick. But all these nukes, moles, terrorists, russians, chinese, and 25th ammendment invoking is just completely played out.

People have been hard on '24' this year for re-hashing plot points (why does the Counter Terrorist Unit have to keep fighting terrorists?) but a doctor show where they treat sick people every week and mate with each other in every possible combination? Let that run 15 seasons!

'24' has to be a really hard show to produce. They can't have a few shitty episodes like other shows can or the whole thing derails. With all the simultaneous action they must have to shoot 3 times more footage than other shows and they have to time everything to fit into real time (with a lot of suspension of disbelief). It's still one of the best shows ever made, IMO.

It's still . . .

It's still the only "show" I really watch. I wait for the DVDs of Lost and Heroes.

But I agree that the format means that if they take off in some direction nobody likes, they're stuck with it, and they don't know that nobody likes it until they've made six more episodes along those lines.

It's still my favorite show of all time. And I'd be dissapointed if the "radical new direction" had nothing to do with terrorism. Most of the bad moments come when they get soap operaish instead of fight bad-guysish.

I was really hoping they were going to ramp up the white house plot--have a Die Hard situation at the white house with the new terrorist, with Aaron Pierce having to save the day. That would have rocked.

Instead, we have comas.

Didn't Superman Returns teach everybody that comas are kind of pace killers in action shows?

Are people really asking this? He died, okay. We saw him flatline in the ambulance. Now, maybe he makes some kind of *suprising* comeback, but we as the audience are supposed to presume he is dead (see, e.g., the FLATLINE). Was that really that SUBTLE? How are the writers supposed to indicate that a character is dead? Do we have to witness his burial? Let is go. Until we discover otherwise, I think we are supposed to carry on with our lives believing that Logan is dead. But the first stage of the grieving process is denial, so I see where some of you are coming from.

I think it's well deserved, but let's equate this to Spidey 3. There is a tremendous amount of hate being directed towards it in this TB. Shouldn't we forgive Sam since we got two really good movies before?

When the bar has been set high (previous 24 seasons, prior Spidey movies), there is left room for forgiveness when expectations are at an equally high level.

The writers had too many lame storylines, characters, bad dialogue, etc. Good characters were wasted, casting was bad, it's just all-around teh suck. The last episode was decent: Heller telling Jack he's cursed, Powers Booth giving his assistant the beatdown, Morris denying Chloe...all good scenes, but still not enough.

I was saying that 24 has received the correct amount of shit, disagreeing with I Dunno. And when a show (or movie) has raised the bar in terms of quality, they are expected to achieve that quality in the following seasons/movies. For season six, 24 has not. Now I haven't seen Spidey 3 yet, but the vast majority of people who have seen it have said it failed to match what Spidey 2 accomplished.

has been the big problem with 24 this year. It would've been good if the whole season was Jack in China, but I guess due to tv budgetary restraints, Jack got thrown back in LA. The shows still not bad though, it's just gotten a little stale with the same plots. Hopefully next year there will be a change of scenery to liven things up (imagine 24 in Las Vegas or New York, or even London). I'll still take this show with it's current problems over Lost, Heroes, or any of the other serialized tv shows going right now.

I don't know why a Reboot is a bad thing
by TVguy4566
May 7th, 2007
01:46:37 PM
People seem to think that a 24 reboot is a kiss of death. There have been plenty of examples of series rebooting and even becoming better than they were before or at the very least not much of a drop off. The Angel reboot in its final season probably gave us the best season of Angel ever. The first reboot of Alias worked, probably the second one too. Battlestar Galatica got even more interesting with its mini-reboot. What is the kiss of death for serialized shows is when they decide to move away from plot arches to self contained episodes to attract new viewers. It is a last ditch effort for show runners that more often than not alienates their core audience more so than attracting new viewers. It killed Alias. I don't think it is going to help Veronica Mars. The good news is that it would be impossible to make 24 into 24 self contained episodes in a season. What 24 needs to do is not to wrap interesting storylines so quickly. I thought the guy behind everything last year was Jack's brother was probably the most interesting angle and they wrapped that up in three episodes. Instead, they spend most of the season with the generic Middle Eastern terrorist.

Logan's 'death' was intentionally left up in the air. Tony dies in a weird way and we see him in a body bag, the Russian guy collapses on the sand Buchanon tells everyone he was found dead, etc. Logan is pretty unique in dying in a way that allows him to return. (Similar to what they did with Heller last year). This is nothing to do with denial, and everything to do with the writers giving themselves an out should they think of something else they want to do with a crooked ex-president...

Absolutely NOTHING Happens.

I mean come on! It's supposed to be the span of a Day, yet in still all this junk is supposed to be happening.

This season started off with a Bang, you know it had to go down hill after they killed Curtis (whom my wife and I refer to as "Black Jack").

Mock that up with plot devices that were abandoned (that guy in the terrorist camp), over used plot lines (Kumar and the terrorist, the terrorist escaping when there is no possible way, the terrorist plain dying).

WTH happened to the Wiseman plotline I had heard so much about over the summer? They switched it in favor of this crap?

And who the heck even cares about anyone at CTU anymore? Hmmm last 3 people I cared about died... Edgar -- Dead. Tony -- Dead, Curtis -- Dead.... Now we have Chloe, who is really stupid and does basically nothing for the plot.

24 needs to die.. that coming from someone who has seen every single episode from this point. TO think this was at one time my favorite show.

The public mood has turned away from the well-worn 9/11 zeitgeist that dominated our culture for the last 5 or 6 years just as the turning of the millennium ended the conspiracy/UFO era of the X-Files. 24 has always been at its best when it is about Jack facing overwhelming odds. I always loved how resourceful Jack was in the first few years at overcoming these obstacles. I would like to see new season be about Jack caught in the midst of some crisis that isn't terrorism related. There are all sorts of crisis for Jack to find himself caught up in...he can still kick ass and take names...just no more CTU snorefest or suitcase nukes.
Un-reboot?
by Anakin Whoopass
May 7th, 2007
06:55:04 PM
The reboot might not be as crazy as people think. Remember the beginning of season one was shot BEFORE 9/11. The reason the show became repetitive was that after 9/11 every season had to be about trying to stop another worse-than-9/11 attack. Season one wasn't about mass destruction, it was about stopping the assassination of a politician, an agent's family being kidnapped, and personal betrayal and loss. A reboot could simply be going back to what the show would have been if 9/11 had never happened. As for tonight's TV Guide logline, it sounds boring as hell. I hope not.

The four episode mini-series to start day six was great, but everything since has been extremely patchy. Which makes it all the more odd that they effectively wrapped up the main plot lines a few hours ago. The show down between Jack and Fayed was a strong episode that felt a lot like a finale. Now the show is just floundering around from one bad idea to the next and it really exposes how badly things can go wrong when they leave creative story decisions so late in the day before a deadline. Last season they really got away with it but for the last few weeks 24 has actually become extremely boring and tedious, and although there have been bad lulls in the past I don't think that's been true before. It's also become painfully obvious how much of a crutch the CTU scenes have become for exposition. The techno talk and office squabbling just allows geographical time jumps and leads to laziness in ever dramatically developing the real action on screen, allowing it to ludicrously meander from one calamity of the week to the next with zero plausibility, whilst the white house plot remains cocooned in its own little universe. This just about works when the Jack story line is compelling enough to hold the show together, but when it badly loses focus like it has done the last few weeks, it's sad to see how formulaic the whole enterprise has really become.

...for the Die Hard inspired music cues in the episode tonight. In fact, there were a couple of nice Die Hard moments tonight: Jack taking out the kneecaps of one terrorist, the sweet "Ho-Ho-Ho, now I have a machine gun," moment, lots of breaking glass, crawling through the air ducts (which was when Callery's cues were perfect), using the machine gun to stop the fan...

Yeah, it could be seen as a rip off, but this season has been so disappointing that I'll take what I can get. However...WITH 23 MINUTES GONE THE ATTACK IS ABOUT TO BEGIN AND THEN YOU CUT AWAY FOR 12 FUCKING MINUTES?!? WHAT THE FUCK?!? IT WAS ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SEVEN FUCKING METERS!!! Do the show's writers have Die Hard on thr brain? First there was Jack's beatdown of Fayed a few weeks back, now we get a terrorist invasion of CTU that's full of Die Hard gags (crawling through heating ducts, propping open a spinning fan with a machine gun). And while I'm no big Milo fan, fuck...are we going to be left with ANY recurring characters by the end of the season?

a few random ideas you all will probably suck,,1st w/about 5 min left in this season jack should find out the lil kid is his,and go off happily w/the kid and marilyn, then the screen goes black and you hear chinese talk and you see cheng waking jack up for more torture and this day was all a dream.yea its a cop out but at least curtis would be alive to lead a rescue mission in china which i think would rule and we can forget that this season happened. With that said,i dont think its been as bad as alot of you all think.Yea there was about 2 months where i didnt think jack was a character anymore,i think they dropped the ball w/the conflicted, unsure jack from the first few episodes, and again the rescue from china, but when he is on screen its the best show on tv. And about the Movie,I've read the 1st 3 books, and they could easily turn them into movies, like the american bond, but instead of drinking and getting laid, jack would just kill and kill again. And i know you got the bourne trilogy but that is about 1 guy saving and finding himself, not 1 guy(Bauer)saving the country, and you could then have all the good old characters(TONY)back, not to mention how Nina got into jacks trust and pants. If they made season 7 and 8 awesome they could use those books for movies for the next 5-9 years, and bauer would live well after the tv show ends.

Interesting article. It's depressing that he acknowledges what they mentioned in the EW article that really summed up this season, though: "...stream of consciousness writing, where there’s nothing really to arc out, there’s no beginning, middle, and end to an episode. There are events that happen, there are some emotional things that happen, but it doesn’t feel like a whole..." That's a little out of context, to be fair, but it certainly is appropriate for this season: no plan, see what sticks to the wall.

I also think that it's interesting that he's basically admitting that the show is written, to all intents and purposes, for DVD consumption. As no episode can be self-contained, they write for the season. Which can lead to episodes that have no emotional heft and the beginnings of a fan backlash. Add in his concerns with the format, and it worries me that there's going to be an Executive Producer on the staff that a) doesn't want to stay on the show, b) is unhappy at not being able to take ownership of an episode, c) dislikes the format, and d) misses writing humor.

I know Herc is hunting me down for going after David Fury right now, but as a fan of 24 shouldn't this interview bother you just a little?

David Fury has enough goodwill in the bank from me that he can suffer through a bad season and I'll be waiting on the other side. However, the staff at 24 need to work out if they want to be an inside the White House show, inside CTU show or the Jack Bauer show. That's been the problem this year, they couldn't seem to figure out which of these plot threads should drive the others and , bluntly, there didn't seem to be the skill to balance all three arcs.

24 is a bit of a blunt instrument -- no Bond reference meant, but the analogy works, bear with me... 24 works because it barrels into situations and then others have to pick up the pieces until it gets to the point where Jack ends up in the exploding volcano delivering the kiiler blow to the Big Bad. If you have Jack being dictated to by policy, you end up with him in a holding cell. When you want him going FUBAR on someone with a machine gun.

I do think they may have realized that the show has suffered this season and I hope they streamline it for next season. They certainly seem to be removing any ties to Jack's past, which makes me think there's almost no way Chloe survives to season 7. Unless Jack's Dad leaves him the business and Jack goes into freelance counter-terrorism with Chlow as his Girl Friday. Like Grosse Point Blank. But with less quirky humor. And more hacksaws.

Jack's dad who was going to kill Josh a few hours ago now wants Josh enough that he made the Chinese go and attack CTU so he'd repair the thingamadoodle. Meanwhile, blonde woman in Washington can't think of an excuse to go out of the room that her Russian spy boyfriend will accept, like maybe "Listen, babe, I've really gotta take a royal dump." So she has sex with Russian spy boy who obviously doesn't kiss or lick above the neckline, as one would think that he'd probably discover whatever listening device allows her to hear Peter MacNichol. Needless to say, this show is absolutely brilliant, well-crafted stuff this season, don't let anyone tell you any different.

I didn't get to watch last week's episode so I Tivoed it and just caught it before tonight's. What the hell is up with William Devane being around? I swear, I thought he was dead from last season when his car soared off the highway and took a nosedive into some water and sank. Seriously, I genuinely thought he died and for the life of me I can't recall them saying he had survived that. In fact, wasn't Audrey all torn up at the end of last season over losing BOTH her Dad and Jack? Or am I remembering it all wrong?

Jack totally had this situation under control. Terrorists invaded CTU in "24: The Game" to abduct Kim. This was the funniest part of the game because you got to play as Kim, sneaking up behind terrorists and shocking them with a taser. Or you could just let them shoot you to death. Basically, the lesson is that keep the Bauer offspring out of CTU, or terrorists will invade.

The one thing that really bothers me about 24 is the way you never have to see the repercussions of what happens. They can bitch and moan all they want (and they do...every season) about how whatever action will be taken (interning Muslims, impeaching the president, etc.) WILL TEAR THE COUNTRY APART, but every season we're back to status quo. Before it never bothered me because the show's entertainment value was so high. Now, those cracks are really starting to show.

Weird that she got mad at Milo just for suspecting she might be a terrorist, but will forgive Doyle for torturing her. This ep. was pretty boring until it became Die Hard at CTU headquarters. And I still can't get over the stupidity of Jack giving the chip to the Chinese instead of a fake chip. I started this season, so I have to see it through, but I think the only way they'll get be back for next year is to have Jack Bauer vs. invading aliens.(From space--not Mexico.)

Seriously, this is CTU -- counter terrorism HQ -- and you're telling me they DON'T have motion sensors in the underground sewers or passageways that lead RIGHT UNDER the command post? And you're telling me they DON'T have overrides or backups or systematic firewalls isolating one key area of computers from another just in the event that any ONE computer was compromised, let alone every single one? I'm supposed to believe that an old man looking to kidnap his friggin' grandkid took the whole place down with some inside info that he probably wouldn't have had any access to EVER?

Hey, I can appreciate a writer like Manny Coto showing up at a story writers' meeting and saying "You know what would be cool? A DIE HARD-like episode where the goons attack CTU and Jack has to repel them", but at least make it LOGICAL. This was the fucking lamest break-in of what should be one of the most secure facilities in the entire 24 universe.

Man, I hope the last 3 hours seriously do SOMETHING good to pull this season out of the crapper. This year has really been less than spectacular and the Bauer Power Hour now feels like it's only running on battery power to stumble to the finish line!

What's with all the recent use of "reboot", incorrectly, to let grumbling fans feel better? If all of Jack's back story and his CTU adventures are still a part of his past, and we still have Kiefer starring, it's not a reboot. They're calling the upcoming Hulk a reboot, but it sounds like the movie starts with Banner as a fugitive, which would seem to fit with the ending of the last Hulk movie. These aren't reboots. These are just changes of venue, changes of writers or changes of actors. Batman Begins was a reboot, Superman Returns was not.

I thought 24 HAD become Grey's Anatomy or Days of Our Lives this season. Maybe it's this years writers who are curled up in their pink bathrobes in front of the soaps. Will Chloe and Morris ever get back together? Will Milo conquer his alcohol problem? Who will Nadia choose... Milo or Ricky Schroeder? Will the Vice President ever recover from getting his feelings hurt from his girlfriend's betrayal? Will his girlfriend betray her boyfriend? Will Wayne Palmer ever come out of his coma? Can Bill Buchanan's marriage be saved? What will Jack's evil twin... I mean, evil brother... I mean, evil father do next? Will Audrey ever recover from her amnesia...errrr, brain damage? Will Audrey's father ever approve Jack and Audrey as a couple? Is Jack in love with his brother's sister? Who really is Josh's father? Will Martha Logan serve dessert... or stab her husband? etc. 24 used to kick ass, but this year feels like the writers are writing it for Betty Lou and Daisy Mae to talk about at the beauty parlor with their hairdresser Maurice.

Tom Lennox is the best of the new characters this season. I like characters who seem evil at first but turn out not to be. He's cold-hearted without being a bastard. I loved him telling Traitor-Tramp that she SHOULD be scared. And if the plan doesn't work, she's getting locked up. That and he gets to play with himself while watching the surveillance camera. I'm choosing to ignore the ridiculousness that Blondie could find no possible way to leave the room. "If I don't get in the bathroom soon, I'm gonna crap my drawers." Unless the likes that kinda thing.

I think a prequel, not a reboot, is in order. I would be very keen on seeing a season maybe set between seasons 2 and 3, with Jack and Tony and Michelle and President Palmer and Wayne and NAKED MANDY... Maybe one that picks up after season 2 where Palmer got his hand scarred. I don't know. I just don't care about any of these characters except Chloe. The only other ones I had any interest in - Milo, Bill Buchanan, and Curtis, are all gone. All the good guest stars - Gray, Aaron Pierce, Dr. Bashir, the Logans - have also kind of disappeared or died for no reason, their plotlines pretty much unresolved. This season has been pretty good but there are two major problems - ADD among the writers, who introduce or reintroduce characters then completely ignore them, combined with a very annoying and repetitive "B" story between Chloe and her boyfriends. It's like every scene with them is exactly the same, and is really boring. I dug the political intrigue at the White House and still think that's the strongest part of this season overall. Powers Boothe is kickass. However, this new plotline with Ilsa of the SS going undercover with her former lover is exactly like season 1 when Palmer's aide is having an affair with Alexis Drazen. Actually, a lot of this season has been reminiscent of previous seasons - CTU has been attacked, what, 2 or 3 times already? The plotline of Jack's lover suffering a brain problem. The vice president conspiring to replace the president (that seems to happen every even-numbered season)...

oh, and milo dying? not cool. him not getting the silent clock is troubling for me because ive always had the fool's hope that Tony is still alive because we never saw a body and he got tick-tocked. But Milo is definitely dead. We saw a bullet enter his brain. Unless he's superhuman. I guess thats possible. Maybe thats why he doesnt need to wear underwear.

Seriously though, this might be a weak season of 24, but it's still a hell of a lot better than 90% of everything on tv. I'd rather watch the worst episode of 24 than any reality show (except Dangerous Catch. That show kicks ass.).

Bauer Sr. traded fixing the device for an all out assault on CTU headquarters to get his grandson who was leaving the next morning anyway? The US was going to attack the 'Your Country' because of a terrorist act and the Russians are willing to attack the US for allowing a component to get into the enemies hands, but apparently the Chinese can attack on US soil with no talk to repercussions? They shoot the head of CTU without thinking that maybe he/she might be needed in a situation like, say, the one that came up 5 minutes later? Could this show get anymore retarded?

Ender, you are deranged.

naked_mandy, I'm pretty sure we saw Tony's body bag at the very beginning of the next episode. I might be wrong about that.

Milo's death was kind of cool because it was so sudden. I don't think they've killed off a recurring good guy with that little warning or buildup before.

The security at CTU has indeed gone into territory of utter farce. And why the hell would Giant Bauer go to all that trouble for the kid? The Chinese want Giant Bauer to fix the component, o.k. But what is Giant Bauer's motivation? Is he that obsessed with continuing his lineage of evil? Would there not have been a more opportune time later to snag the kid that didn't involve breaking into a government agency? C'mon!

I wish they wouldn't put the credits up during the opening scenes. I saw Zephraim Cochran's name in the credits and knew he would be the one the chinese were reporting to because he hadn't shown up the whole episode.

When Milo was offed my gf looked at me like she was shocked. I'm so used to cast members being killed it doesn't even surprise me anymore. It serves no purpose, it's cheap shock tactic. The show has no regard for any of it's actors except Kiefer. What narrative purpose did the death of Milo, Curtis, Logan, Tony, etc serve? None, just shock value. And that's why Lost and BSG mop the floor with 24. I'm still entertained by it, but the cheap deaths are played out. When papa Bauer was shown at the end you could almost hear the script creaking as the writers struggle to bring this mess into some kind of conclusion. It's gotten better than the mid-season episodes but it's still a long way from good.
Oh, and the Chinese attacking on US soil...
by DarthCorleone

...is especially stupid. With all that controversy about the attack on their soil/embassy back in season four, are all the leaders of all the biggest nations ludicrously eager to start WWIII or what? Even this season we saw the Russian leader acknowledging a rogue element when he saw one and allowing the attack on his embassy. Now all the vestiges of realistic diplomacy are completely trashed. Ever heard of risk vs. reward? Let's see...slaughtering personnel at a US government agency versus acquiring one bit of technological leverage over the Russians...ridiculous.

Just bring the cougar and all the zombies back next year. Hell, that cougar might have lived out his lifespan by now. He could be a zombie cougar.

...you could make a badass zombie series/movie with Jack Bauer as the hero. Has any network ever tried a zombie horror series? Postapocalyptic world, a few people struggling to survive...I guess it'd be too gory for network. Eh, maybe I'm just psyched to see 28 Weeks Later.

CBS has a zombie show in the works, with ROME'S Titus Pullo as the lead. Deranged? I just call it how I see it. Its like ink blots. For instance I perciev that USS Cygnus holds the patent for spiked anal beads. While you might just think he's a cunt. Its all about perception.

It was explained several episodes after his plummeting crash that he had survived, although we never saw him onscreen again. I seem to remember the news being relayed to Audrey who had just been rescued from Henderson or maybe his goons, I can't remember. I think her face quivered to display her happiness at the news... But yeah, if you had missed that minute or so of season 5 you would assume he was dead...

I believe it is more the dead return to life, just looking a little pale, and with the same intelligence, personality etc. Lots of episodes with the dead willing to do their old job at the old wage and the living getting mad, or the dead upset their ex-wife is remarried to the jerk from next door and other such things. No dragging decaying bodies screaming 'BRAINS' for us I am afraid...

Bizarro, you're nitpicking about 'reboot'
by Anino

Dude, it's a METAPHOR. When I turn on my computer I'm rebooting it, I don't re-cast it--I don't have to get a new hard drive or OS to reboot...I turn it off, I turn it on. Changing direction can be a reboot. Changing the formula can be a reboot. You can't correct someone's use of a metaphor because it doesn't fit your idea, metaphors can be flexible. Changing your hair color can be called a reboot. You're saying you can only call it a reboot if you get a brain transplant. It's the equivalent of Paris Hilton wanting to patent the phrase "that's hot". Reboot, retool, re-vamp, renovate--who cares. The fact of the matter is, 24 needs to change something because what used to work for them doesn't work as well anymore. And yeah, I'm saying it needs a reboot. Reboot. I'm going to say it again. Reboot reboot reboot. Damn it, now the word's starting to look funny. We're outta time!!!!

Logan flat lined? Why do you suppose the writers had Logan flat line? To indicate that maybe he is still alive or to indicate that we are supposed to believe he is dead? Now, I'm not going to be shocked in the least if Logan makes a come back. Not too surprising if it happens. But we are supposed to think he is dead. The same thing with Heller. We were supposed to think he was dead. Yes, when an off screen death occurs there is always a little leeway. Just work with me here. Until you find out otherwise, just presume that Logan is dead. See, isn't that nice. There's the closure you want. Ahhhhhhh.... the sweet taste of closure.
