I get that it's more about Peter Parker, but you can't have a Spider-Man movie and then not have Spider-Man really show up until the very end.

As for me I'm just happy the guy who is likely directing The Hobbit actually wants to stay as true to the source as possible. That's something the last guy with Tolkien didn't do so well as the movies progressed (and his plans for the Hobbit are horrifying).

Sandman- VERY cool birth sequence, but most of the time he just gazed sadly then flew away pointlessly, then in complete contrast to what we had seen about him went all crazy sand monster. Lame.

Topher Grace - Oh come on! His acting was forced, and his voice coming out of Venom was laughable.

Didn't he say he wanted a much smaller film, with fewer villains, but that Avi and the other bloke "convinced" him otherwise?

Good review tho Mori, even tho i disagree with some of it. LOVED the birth of Sandman but as the film went on i kept asking myself "why is he in this movie at all?" Church did do a good job tho with what he was given, as did Grace which i was suprised to like as much as i did. one thing i hated was emp-peter...not how he acted because the smarmy asshole he becomes is pretty much perfect, just didnt like him actually looking in the mirror and combing his hair down....lame. everytime he came on screen i just kept telling myself to look at him like hes a coke-head and not an MCR fan. Venom looked AMAZING and as much as i wanted more, the fact that i got to see a badass looking Venom onscreen makes me happy...plus there is the sample in Dr. Connors lab so the possibility of a return or at least of Carnage is there. and i am not ashamed to say i laughed my ass off at the SN Fever scene. i thought it was hysterical. loved Bruce Campbell as usual and his cameo was hillarious (loved his whistle, haha) Harry who i loathed in SM1 & 2 was actually a good guy in this one. MJ pissed me off being a cunt as usual and i fucking cheered when Peter was flirting with Betty Brant. Gwen was cute and vibrant as she should have been and i think all things considered they did her justice. i was happy they kept her a good hearted person in the nightclub scene. i cant help but think MJ would have done the opposite and been as spiteful as Peter. all in all i loved it. yes it was a heavy film and was a bit all over the place but Raimi has given us 2 great films already and im glad he decided to go all out and let his hair down on this one. i think we've been spoiled with "inside" info for too long and we expected so much it was impossible not to be let down a bit.

The movie was filled with cheese and cliches, and characters like venom were not given enough time, but it had a few things going for it.

I loved the action/effects sequences. I absolutely fucking loved the birth of sandman (though his creation was yet another coincidence that's ridiculous). Him coming out of the sand for the first time is fantastic. I was ok with the dancing, but the jazz club dancing scene did not work for me at all... it like stopped the movie in its tracks. The street dancing was funny, that could have stayed but that jazz sequence... what the fuck?

Loved the supporting characters- Topher played a pitch-perfect sleezy bastard. Gwen was so freakin cute. J.Jonah, good as always and my god I love elizabeth banks as his secretary.

Venom's voice should have been deeper... I mean really. And he should have referred to himself as "we" like the comics. (I'm not a comic purist but that seemed like a really unnecessary change that actually takes a bit away from the character). That butler, who i actually found really funny, should NOT have been the deus ex that he was. THAT was ridiculous.

Also hated the play by play the fucking reporters were giving at the end. That british woman actually said "Oh the humanity". SHE ACTUALLY SAID THAT.

And rewriting the Uncle Ben story? Not cool. It totally changes the first film and not in a good way. Peter NEEDS to be responsible for what happened to uncle ben. That's part of the character. Now it's like, eh, just forget about that peter, no need to feel guilty anymore.

All in all it was an enjoyable but aomewhat disappointing film with some downright puzzling creative decisions by people who should know better.

Oh, and it was WAY better than X3.

Jaka, like i said, a "steaming pile if shit" isnt what i think of when i see this movie. face it, we all expected too much or its been too long since most of you have seen the first 2 films.

So yea Mori good work. I don't often pay attention to who writes the reviews on the site and haven't since day one when running across AICN by accident, but I do give you alot of credit on this one. you've clearly thought alot about the film, and it's not quantity thought per se but quality thought which translates into a fair and balanced review to borrow a phrase sure to make aicn staffers angry.

so in the end I appreciate your efforts, and most especially the time you've given over and above that which you owe to your wife and the rest of your family when writing the review and seeing the movie. well done.

yes i can see why people are being hard on the film, but it certainly isnt an "atrocity" as someone put it. Raimi finally had some fun with the character and i was glad to see that. look, if i didnt have an emotional investment in movies and comics i wouldnt post on this site as much as i do. i just want to know what you people who are saying this is a huge failure were expecting.

ps. its "grown up" not "growed up"..not unless you learned the english language by watching "Rugrats"

Could it be that Venom has NOTHING ELSE TO OFFER except his "We", his imagined monster voice, and his "evil version of Spider-Man" appearance?

Could it be that Raimi put what was on the page onto the screen, and you've seen what happens when you try to put a badly-written character into a three-dimensional world. The artwork was what made Venom interesting; His story was always, always, always shitty and shallow.

The film also had way, way too many moments that just did not work, or that were needlessly, and poorly, drawn out. Oh, and how do you know that Parker has gone dark? He gets an emo haircut and a penchant for dancing...which resulted in a real "Fuck...Off..." level of cringeworthy embarrassment.

Also Mary Jane continues to be pretty much a complete and utter bitch much of the time in the way that she acts and choices she makes, making her a heavier and heavier burden to bear in each subsequent film. While it almost felt as though we got more shots of Parker crying than of Spidey fighting, or just plain doing his Spidey think, the latter of which was very lacking indeed. On top of that he still can't keep his mask on or untorn for more than ten seconds at a time it seems, and it always tears away in the same damn places. He might want to have that looked at when he gets a chance.

And are we ever going to get a film that doesn't end with the villian(s) kidnapping Mary Jane and holding her hostage? I mean for that to happen at the end of every single fucking film? Get a new ending next time, please.

And man, don't even get me started on the "wise old butler" who had barely been seen as anything beyond background furnature before this film and who was utterly unconvincing in his plot device "the things I've seen" role. I mean did anyone buy that scene? Then again maybe it wasn't Bill Paxton's daddy's fault as the lines he had to spew were far from being even remotely convincing anyway, though his delivery of them didn't help sell them any.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the film overall, there was fun to be had, and all in all it was worth my time and money, but I think it's a very uneven and unfocussed film, and despite all that's going on it felt very slight and surface level to me. Not enough depth on the things and characters that needed more time and depth, too much time dragging out lengthy gags and ideas that didn't work too well, or were one note gags to begin with. I don't think the film is too long, I just don't think the focus is where it needs to be, and in fact, most of the time the focus seems to be in the exact opposite direction of where it should be at that particular given point.

Thankfully I wasn't expecting the second coming like so many fans seemed to be, so I still managed to have a mostly good time despite the films many flaws and general lack of focus, but all those folks who were expecting the best spidey/comic book movie ever, and who really bought into the hype these past many months, I can understand how disappointed some of those folks might have been. Then again, though I've enjoyed each Spidey film so far to various degrees I've yet to be blown away by any of them, and this is probably the weakest and definitely the most unfocussed of the three, so, yeah, take that as you will.

Personally, despite having had a pretty good time with the Spidey saga so far, I hope we get a new director for part 4, as Raimi seems to be pretty burnt out on the saga at this point, and I think new blood behind the camera would be the best thing for not just this series in general, but also for Raimi as a film maker himself. After all no one says he can't come back sometime down the line when his batteries are recharged and he doesn't seem so jaded by ol' webhead's exploits. Just make sure you get somebody good to replace him with in the meanwhile.

Laura Prepon should be Mary Jane, and I'd buy Elijah Wood as Peter Parker.

Next villain should be Electro, with a little lame-villain help from The Shocker and The Trapster. The film should start out with these two losers robbing a bank. They're kicking cop ass until Spider-Man shows up. They give him a decent little fight, double-teaming him with glue and vibes, until finally Pete figures out they're using high-tech tools to make their powers work, and breaks those tools so that Paste Pot Pete and Herman are their normal drab, unpowered selves. They're arrested, and Parker takes part of the high-tech Shocker gear to his friend Doc Conners (who seems to be standing in for Reed Richards in the Spider-Man Movie universe). He asks Conners to look it up, find out where something like this could come from, and goes on his way.

Next scene: Maxwell Dillon is seen in his lowly job in an electric company. He's studying to be an electrical engineer, but he keeps hearing his mother's voice telling him he's not smart enough. "I'll show you!" he says to the phantom Mommy in his head, and continues to study for his exams while on the job, in the truck, at a site.

Meanwhile, Parker goes through his usual song-and-dance with Mary Jane, and they plan a wedding (finally). As Pete and MJ are busy picking out wedding rings, there's a crash and Peter sees The Shocker back on the streets, new vibe-suit and all, robbing the jewelry store. With a nod from MJ, Peter ducks out the back and returns in the front to face the Shocker, but this time when his wisecracks about how weak Shocker is rattle the guy, Shocker lets loose with a vibe blast that knocks Spidey on his ass; This guy has gotten an upgrade! The fight progressed into the streets, with Shocker knocking over buildings and power lines. Finally, Spidey clocks him a good one, and Shocker is once again caught. "Keep him locked up this time" says Spidey to the cops.

Now Peter's worried. How did Shocker get out of going to prison, and where did he get that new, more powerful outfit? He decides to start looking into it. With some leads from Doc Conners about the origin of the Shocker suit, Pete finds himself at a small technology company... One that's been out of business for five years.

Meanwhile, Trapster is in jail. We see the guard approach, and he says "Petruski! You've got a visitor." -- "A visitor? But who would visit me?" -- We see the outline/silhouette of a man approach the cell, and a voice says "I've got an offer for you. . ."

Back to Max Dillon, who has just been told that his studies are going to be cut short because Spider-Man and the Shocker's damage has called all Con-Ed guys into overtime, repairing downed wires and the like. He grumbles about it, but hesitantly gets on the job. As the scene fades we see his textbooks in the background...

Next scene is Dillon asleep in class at NYU.

Next scene is Dillon taking his exam.

Next scene is Dillon looking at the "F" on his final, and getting a defeated, downtrodden look on his face... Resigned to be a pole-climber... His mother's voice echos in his head "You're not smart enough Max! You were never smart enough!" - "No!" he says out loud, and stalks away from the classroom, leaving a confused professor behind him.

Back to Parker at the Daily Bugle, asking Betty or Robbie to let him dig up some details on this little technology company. He digs, and finds it was a subsidiary of some larger company, and just as he's about to find the name of the owner company, JJ Jameson storms in and asks "What the HELL is Parker doing? He's not a reporter! Get out there and give me pictures! I don't pay you to play with office equipment! Move!" -- Peter does as instructed, lest he lose his staff job. Besides, he's got to worry about...

The Wedding. Pete stands at the altar, MJ approaches, and the world looks wonderful. Suddenly, his Spider Sense tingles. "Oh no. No no no! Not now!" he says, but yes- NOW. A large sppplllaattt of glue-string hits MJ, and she finds herself being pulled away by-- THE TRAPSTER?!?! He flings her onto a truck, and then yells out "TELL SPIDER-MAN WE'LL LEAVE A MESSAGE WHERE TO FIND HER!" and then he laughs and zips away on a glue-string in one direction, while the truck heads off another direction. Peter goes to change, but all eyes are on him... He CAN'T be Spider-Man now, and even so-- His suit's not on under his tuxedo! He hesitates just a moment, and it's long enough for both to get away.

After the chaos, Pete's on the trail. Swinging around the city, looking for clues, and finally there's a message on the big screen in Times Square: "Spider-Man: She's at ground zero!"

Spidey rushes to Ground Zero... Where the towers once stood, and there, on a pillar of glue and metal, is Mary Jane in her wedding dress, held some 150 feet in the air.

Before he can get to her, though, he's hit by a huge glob of glue. It holds him, he fights out if it, and a small battle ensues.

Meanwhile, Max Dillon is a block away, up on a pole, fixing a power line. He looks up when he hears thunder.

Back to the fight, Spidey's kicking Trapster's ass, and then he's hit from behind by-- you guessed it!-- The Shocker! Again! "How do you keep not going to jail?!?!" Spidey asks. "We've got a mutual friend." says Shocker. Peter's had enough of this. He cuts loose, and really beats the two guys pretty well, until Shocker desperately fires a blast at MJ. Spidey acts fast, and uses a girder/beam/something to knock some of the glue pillar out, making MJ fall a few feet, but also making the shockwave shoot over her, missing her completely...

...And it hits Max Dillon, on a pole. The modified shockwave makes Dillon jam his screwdriver/tool/whatever into the electrical panel, and JUST AT THAT MOMENT the skies rumble and a bolt of lightning shoots down, striking Dillon as he's already being rocked by the shockwave and electrocuted by the city's electrical supply. He screams, and is blasted off the pole, onto a nearby rooftop, where he lay, smoking and sparking, at the feet of another man who appears to have been watching the battle. "What have we here?" says the man as Dillon crackles with electricity. "A sign from God?"

Back at the fight, it's all over. Pete beats the baddies, rescues MJ, and she tells him "I'm getting REALLY sick of this!" He apologizes, jokes with her, and they rush back to their wedding...

On the rooftop, as we see Parker and Watson board a cab to go back to the wedding in the distance, Maxwell Dillon is sitting up. His hands are covered in electrical charge. Electricity arcs from his fingertips. His eyes spark and glow. He's a changed man. The person standing in front of him- still in shadow to the audience- says "Well, aren't you an interesting development?" -- "What the hell happened to me?" says Dillon. "Who did this?" -- "Why, Spider-Man, of course." says the stranger. Dillon remembers that Spider-Man caused him to have to work overtime, which caused him to fail his test. His mother's voice echos in his head "You're a loser, Max. You'll always be a loser!" and Max says "Spider-Man. . . It was Spider-Man's fault." --- "Gooood." says the shadowy stranger. "I think you and I should talk."

Pete and MJ are married. Joy, tears, la la la. All that good mushy stuff is in this part of the movie. I'll spare you details.

Next we see The Shocker and Trapster. They're out of prison again, with some bruises and black eyes and swollen lips. "Why did he want us to meet him here?" says Trapster. "I dunno" says Shocker, looking around at the crumbling technology-company building that Peter Parker had visited only a few days earlier. "Something about paying us with something new." -- "Good! I could use a new outfit. This one didn't do the trick." --- A voice comes from all around them suddenly: "No, Petruski, it wasn't the technology. It was the INCOMPETENTS WHO WERE USING IT!" -- A lightning bolt strikes both of them, and they fall and shudder in pain. Trapster recovers first, firing a glob of glue in the general direction of the electricity. It's vaporized by another blast. "I gave you one simple task, you cretins. KILL SPIDER-MAN. You couldn't do that One. Little. Thing." -- Another bolt of lightning strikes the ground in front of the duo, and they look up as the voice continues: "Now, however, I've found something better than you two. I'd like you to meet my new employee-- ELECTRO! Show them how we feel about failiure!" ZZZAAAAP!!! Trapster is toast. Shocker falls back and stands in awe as Max Dillon, in his new green-and-yellow costume, rides a lightning bolt down from the sky, through a hole in the roof. The man is crackling with energy, and Shocker wastes no time firing shockwaves at him. In the brief fight that follows, Electro utterly trounces Shocker, and finally, when both flunkies are defeated, the voice says "Dispose of them."-- Electro's eyes glow and crackle as we get close-up to his face, and then he strikes-- fade to black.

Next scene, Electro stands between the charred husks of Trapster and Shocker. The silhoutted stranger approaches, and says "Excellent. The costume is making it easier to control your powers?" -- "Yes. It's making it easier to channel the electricity, and aim it, and shape it. I don't NEED this, though. I can learn on my own." -- "We do not have time for that, Max. I need you out there NOW. The suit will guarantee that you strike true, and once that's done and Spider-Man is dead, you and I will take this city by storm!"

Cut to Peter and MJ. Being cutesy, talking about life and MJ's career and all that crap. Happy moment again. You know the drill. Pete's listening to the police band on his radio, and hears of an attack on cop cars and a movie set in Times Square. Someone is shooting electricity at the police!!! MJ nods, Pete throws on the costume, and he's on his way.

At the scene of the destruction we see Bruce Campbell as a special effects guy on the movie set. A director is saying "What the hell is this, Beck? I asked for a little rainstorm effect, not this!!!" -- "It isn't me, man! I didn't do it!" -- Electricity strikes the camera, and the cops on the other side start shooting into the air at Electro, who stands aloft on an electrical current. "I AM THE MASTER OF ELECTRICITY! I AM ELECTRO! WHERE IS SPIDER-MAN NOW?" -- "Whoa. That guy has issues. I'm out of here!" says Quentin Beck, before hopping in the only nearby truck and starting it up. The director yells at him "Beck, if you leave us here, you'll never work in movies again!" -- "I'll take my chances, chief!" Beck says, and steps on the gas...

Just then, Spider-Man shows up. I won't detail the fight, but it's long, cool, and eventually ends with Electro sending out an electrical wave that blows up every light, powerline, and outlet in a one-mile radius. When the dust clears, he's gone, but not before Pete notices that he's wearing a pretty high-tech suit, and it looks a little familiar.

Next, we see Spider-Man creeping on the ceiling of the run-down, abandoned technology company he tracked down earlier. He finds Trapster and Shocker, and knows he's on the right trail. "Who owned this place? Where does technology like that COME from? he says aloud while searching through some old files. --"From my company." says the voice of the stranger. Peter's eyes grow wide inside his mask. He turns to see...

Norman Osborn stands in front of him. Alive. He's not dressed as the Goblin, but it's unquestionably Norman. "You didn't think you'd beaten me that easily, did you Peter?"

"Osborn? You're dead! I saw it." says Spidey. "Yes, I was dead. Very dead. And you buried me. Funny thing about the formula I created, though- It's quite incredible, actually- You see: I got better." ZZZAPPPP! Spider-Man is struck by a bolt of electricity. Norman laughs as his employee, Electro, advances on Spider-Man. "I may not be up to full strength yet, Peter, but I am still as much a genius as I ever was, and if I can't finish you myself, I can at least make sure I'm the guy paying the bills and supplying the technology. And I get to watch. It's a good day for the Osborn family."

Fight scene. jump/zap/smash/zap/etc.

Spider-Man is getting beat. He's charred, sore, and not doing very well at all in this closed-off area. He's laying on the ground, just about done-for, and Norman walks up to him. "You're pathetic, Parker. Electro here has all the tools to make you a memory. I thought of siccing him on Mary Jane, but then I thought: Maybe I'll keep her for myself."

"NOOOO!" Peter yells, and leaps up, kicking Norman in the chest with both feet, narrowly missing being blasted apart by Electro. He fights back, renewed, punching and kicking Electro, and finally ripping the major components of Electro's costume off of him. Electro freaks. Electricity flies everywhere. Spidey dodges, Electro is screaming because he's out of control, and Osborn is suddenly struck by electricity and falls limp to the floor. Spider-Man grabs Osborn's still form, and leaps out the hole in the ceiling.

Inside, Electro is trying to "pull it in" but he can't. He's too exhausted, too inexperienced, and too powerful. Electricity crackles from every pore in his body, glowing, growing, until KRAKABOOOOM!!! He's gone in a white flash... But is he dead? Or has he just evolved into something else. . . Something worse? (Yes, he has. We'll see him in the next movie).

Pete lays Osborn down on the ground, and looks at him. It's him. It's really him. And he can't do anything about it. He can't kill him. He can't turn him over to police (Osborn was never implicated as the Goblin), and he can't make Osborn forget who he is... He takes off his mask, and just sits there looking at Norman as he lay unconscious. He buries his face in his hands. As police sirens approach, he knows he can't stick around. "It's not supposed to be this way..." he says, and then swings away just as spotlights shine on the spot where Norman lay.

After a pause, we see the front of the Daily Bugle in JJJ's hand. "NORMAN OSBORNE FOUND ALIVE!" says the headline. JJJ is talking about what a story it is, Norman faking his death to get out of the limelight, and tells Peter "Go to Osborn's place and see if you can get a photo of the man!" Pete looks dazed. "I'm not sure I can, Jonah. I have a honeymoon to get to..."

As the movie ends, we see Pete and MJ on their honeymoon on Coney Island. Pete says he's sorry, it's all he can afford right now, MJ says anywhere is great with you, blah blah blah. Love and kisses, and all that. They have a few laughs, and then walk through the door of their new apartment together to hear the phone ringing. Pete says "I'll get it."

The voice at the other end is too familiar. "Hello Peter. I just wanted to call to congratulate you on your marriage to MJ. I considered sending you a gift, but I think it would be better to keep you in suspense." --- "What do you want from me?" replies Peter. --- "We'll talk about that later. For now, I just want you to know that I'm out here. I'll always be out here." --- "Norman, please..." --- "Have a nice honeymoon, Peter Parker." CLICK.

MJ: "Who was that?" -- Pete: "Uhm, nobody. Just an old friend saying hello." -- "How nice of them!" -- "Yeah. Nice."

The movie fades out of Peter Parker's face, stunned and worried, and briefly fades into Norman Osborn's face, grinning, eyes wide, as he starts laughing maniacly; The Goblin mask in the background of his billionaire's mansion.

Seriously, what was he thinking? This film's word of mouth won't be too nice...

First off, Massy's review of the dance scene, he said it reminded him of something like thinking of his mother while doing it. a) I'm guessing that this was with his cousin, and b) he doesn't know what he's talking about.

While the scene was a little out of place, it did not destroy the movie at all. It just showed how cocky he became with the symbiote on him.

Massy, go take a pill...

As for the rest of the movie. I still liked it.

Negatives: Gwen, sorry but Howard is blonde in this one, and acts like it, with those big blue eyes that scream out "Nobody's Home", I'm guessing Raimi had a debt to pay up with her daddy Ron. And the character was totally neutral, I mean that you could've put anyone and change the name to Vanessa in her place, and it would've done the same thing. The you have the way the costume land on earth and right next to Peter. I Don't remember who said it on this site, but it's true they should've made that Venom seek out Spiderman instead of landing besides him.

Positives: The Sandman. I tip my hat to him, great job. Being a father myself, I can only imagine what I would do for my kids. Thumbs way up for Church who played this one to perfection. Brock, Topher was actually good in this role. He played it out very good.

The rest of the stuff was all counter balances, there are few instances that I was bored and did not care for what they were doing to the story, yet on the other hand you get great action sequences and great character play between Peter and Harry.

The Venom in action, I could've lived without, should've done the fourth movie with Lizard and get Brock in snidbits here and there building us up the character while the symbiote is affecting him, then 5th movie get full blown Venom, but yet you still want to see him, because they got the big Spider right on Venom. And there was the lack of Character development yet most of them, we already met. Putting in the Landlords girl in there to not do much was still good, I mean he lives there, so i'm guessing he'll cross her at one point. That's what they did here, show us a little more of who was there previously, and who's still around. I liked that.

Anyway, although I agree with many of the criticisms, I think people are taking them too far. It's a very enjoyable film, and the long running time whipped by without my ass complaining.

Man, I feel like a plant or something.

1. I can't believe how many people are whining about the so-called 'Saturday Night Fever' sequence. That was fucking hilarious, the best non-action scene in the film, and anyone who doesn't like it has no sense of humour.

2. I can't believe how many people are criticising the relationship problems Peter and MJ had in the film. Yes, it was silly that they were on the verge of splitting up because of poor communication, but - here's an important fact for you - that's how a great deal of long term relationships hit the skids. People stop talking. I thought they did a pretty damn good job of showing how Peter's growing ego was preventing him from really listening to Mary Jane, and I thought Dunst did a good job (with little dialogue) of showing the heartbreak and disappointment on her face every time Peter started banging on about Spider-Man.

To conclude, too much whining, Ain't It Cool types. Does a film have to be perfect? That would be nice, but so far only One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and The Big Lebowski (and maybe Leprechaun In Space) have managed it. Can't you relax and ENJOY a film despite its imperfections? If you have ever liked Spider-Man, I see no valid reason to bash this film so relentlessly.

BSB... Totally agree with you. Arad is like a cancer for Marvel movies. He should be there so they don't fray away from the storylines that were built in the comics for so long, instead of pushing villains and plot to the directors.

Raimi is doing a great job considering he's got Arad on his back.

If Raimi can make JJJ and Bruce C so funny, why can't he pull the wise-cracking Spider-Man that we know? This is one of the crucial aspects of Spider-Man. Smart-ass comments that make the villains angry and the audience smile have been missing from day one. OR is it that Tobey M can't pull it out? His few lame attempts in S-M 1 came out flat, insipid, devoid of all spark. I agree with all those that say that Topher would have made a better PP/SM. He had in this movie the witty personality that PP should have had since day one, plus we have seen it pull out a nerd flawlessly in his show. I really enjoyed the moments Topher was on the screen.

And can you explain the special effects? Why does it still look so rubbery? I really did not see that much difference between SM1, 2 or 3. There is no excuse. And sandman (or is it sandstorm) still looked like the mummy to me.

It seems this film is about forgiveness, but it gets very muddled because it only superficially explores it. Otherwise, you get in danger of it turning into a soap opera, because it has many of the same characteristics in serial storytelling. They need to keep the soap opera stuff out of superhero films - it's fine for the comics, to a point.

The rest of it was pretty paint by numbers. There weren't any real surprises (MJ gets kidnapped at the end of the film AGAIN?) and the fight scenes were cartoonish, even the ones without Sandman. Does Peter have Wolverine's healing ability and admantium skeleton now? Because I clearly remember getting knocked out in the first film and taking a pounding that would turn him into a fine paste in this one. And don't tell me it's a comic book movie, that's the entire point. You have to follow your own rules above all else.

Origin stories comprising the first 30 minutes of the movie - we get it, okay?

Anyone WB would consider casting for their t.v. channel playing characters that are supposed to be grown ups

Costumes that do not look in line with the original comic book design

Butlers and/or sidekicks explaining things that should be explained by the unfolding of the story itself

Love interests that exist solely to create teen angst

Meet-cutes with characters that belong in your average episode of Sailor Moon/Pokemon

Teary-eyed villains who are evil but sooo sympathetic, i.e. "My kid is dying so I had to do X." (Unless he is punched in the face by the hero/villain immediately following said revelation.)

Everyone knowing everyone else and all of their motivations somehow inexplicably being tied together

And yes we did see brock follow peter to the bar, then brock splitted up. But come one, couldnt the writers do better than that? Have brock somehow tail spiderman to a church to redeem himself by grabbing some decent photos for JJ - a chance to get his job back?

I will agree, it is a "fun" movie in certain parts but overall as a movie it is just mediocore, it does not feel like a true continuation of the fantastic #2. But i need to agree with you that they did good by giving parker the humping moves on the street and the dance number in the jazz bar, it shows that hes cocky and he doesnt give a shit what people thinks, hes god damn motherfucking spiderman. But thats just one of the few things that they did well in this movie, the negatives far outweight the positives.

as far as the harry may or may not have been investigated thing, i was just speaking my mind. Maybe in the next movie they'll have flashes of a news article about how harry is a nut who used oscorp tech to fly around the city. But ill admit that was just a nitpicking, there are far bigger problems with this film than that.

It wasn't perfect wee all admit to that, but from what Raimi had to do and include Venom when he didn't want him in there, I'm keeping my "thumbs up" and giving the film in general a good 8/10.

We can go on about what was wrong with the way too many characters, but at least Raimi didn't go all "Superman Returns" on this film and rip out the very soul that makes Spidey a great character.

The whole Peter dancing was basicaly to show us how the costume was reflecting on Pete's emotions and how he was being affected. It wasn't just to throw a dancing scene in there. I'm keeping to the "it could've ended up on the cutting room floor and I would've been happier" but it was still there. You gotta live with it.

I admit that I was expecting more of this film. But with all the characters, I still like it.

My beef with all of these Superhero movies is when they change them so much it basically becomes another character. Hulk - Gamma bomb replaced with Gamma rays in a lab and the fact that the monster was already living in him; Superman Returns - Spying on Lois, absolutely doing nothing at all as Clark for the whole 2 + hrs; X-Men 3 - everybody just dies for nothing. I mean come on, Raimi at least kept the spider bites, but made it more contemporary, and keeps Spidey's humor when he's fighting. I have to give him a thumbs up. There we're flaws, but not incredible mistakes.

I can live with that and say I'll be buying the dvd.
