I know everybody here probably hates Ratner (don't know who you hate more, him or Michael Bay), but I enjoyed the first two Rush Hour movies, so I'll be there for this one. Personally, I think this series is quite fun and I hope this next installment lives up to that promise, 'cause these movies don't really promise you anything else...

Rush Hour isn't some movie about High art, you know what to expect when you walk into the theater. It's a martial arts/slapstick comedy and I've liked the last two films also. Tucker and Chan have great chemistry, more so then the Owen Wilson team up. so I'm looking forward to this movie. I likes to entertained.

Not great by any stretch, but too mediocre to get yourself worked up over. You've got some laughs, you've got Chan doing his aging best to give you some action, plus any Chris Tucker film that is not The Fifth Element tends to win me over because I'm always relieved to see he's not nearly nearly as annoying as he was playing that Ruby Rod guy. Fuck, he was aggravating in that film.

So they are again fighting Chinese bad guys now in Paris? Are Chinese people the news Nazi's? They seem to be the bad guys in everything. This trailer looked boring to me and just tired material. Tucker likes girls I understand and he still doesn't understand Chinese culture even though he's been partners with a Chinese agent for what years now? So whatever they couldn't even get Yao Ming for the big Chinese guy this is on my ignore list.

I don't understand the Ratner hate... X3 wasn't his fault. He did an admirable job with the time he was given. Yes, he agreed to do it...but you can't hold that against him, it's how he makes a living. Anyway, this looks just as fun as the others. Can't wait to see it, they could have been on Rush hour 4 if Tucker wouldn't go into seclusion all the time. Sheesh!

Who the fuck does he think he is? From what I've heard of the Rush Hour shoots, he is a megalomaniac, who in alternate, just universe, would be Jackie Chan's sidekick. He's a one-trick pony, and the trick is being loud and obnoxious. Gimme another Shanghai movie any day.

In the blooper reel at the end. Someone somehow conned Don Cheadle into being in the second one and Tucker kept calling Jackie "Jackie". Finally Cheadle explodes,

That was funny. The actual film, not so much.

I know many disagree, but Ratner has consistently entertained me over the years. The first two Rush Hours are at the top of their genre, Red Dragon was a solid thriller, After the Sunset a decent enough heist flick, and X3 is probably the X-Men film I'll end up seeing the most. Looking forward to Rush Hour 3 and anything else he might have up his sleeve. "You're Asian, stop humiliating yourself!"

He does a Rush Hour movie with a big payday and then doesn't bother to work again until the next one. Check imdb if you don't believe me...in the last nine years, his only work has been the three Rush Hour movies. Somehow I just find this to be funny and admirable in some respect.

01:22:18 PM
Why all the hate? He's never gonna have a cult, but he's a perfectly fine, slick journeyman director. Not too many notches below Michael Bay. You should read his interview on CHUD, I think, wherein he talked about how baffling he found the inexplicable bashing he got from Harry despite the fact that Rat was always friendly and even flew Harry and his dad out to the MONEY TALKS premiere when Rat was flat broke. It seems hypocritical to me.

Yeah, I agree, and Oasis is better than the Beatles... Hydrox are better than Oreos. Buddy, there are fun movies out there, but Ratner isn't directing them. HE's a hack. Racially toned/charged jokes just don't incite laughter from me. I find them to be offensive. Not, "Gasp, how could you say that?" - more like, "Couldn't you come up with something better/wittier?" Jokes like that are just tired. I understand they work for many people - hence a third film, but just not for me. And what's with all the Ratner hate? I don't love him or anything. I certainly don't blame X-Men 3 on him. He's nothing special, but he certainly isn't the trash that is Michael Bay. At least Ratner can diversify topically. To each his own.

This film is years too late. Chris Tucker is highly overrated. Jackie Chan needs to stop pretending he's in his thirties and act his freaking age - Lau Kar-Leung doesn't pretend he's not a senior citizen, but it doesn't make him any less of a badass, he's still married to a gorgeous woman half his age, and he could still kill you with two hands and one leg tied behind his back. Old people are cool too, Jackie. Max Von Sydow is supposed to be French? Brett Ratner actually CAN direct his way out of a wet paper bag... but wet paper bags are extremely flimsy and tear easily, and I think a dry paper bag would be enough to stop him. This series has been terribly successful so far, but it looks to me like that other shoe's in free-fall and rapidly approaching the ground. To be fair, what little action is on display here looks to be an improvement over previous entries in the series. That won't be enough in this crowded summer. I just don't feel like anyone is going to care about this movie all that much. Then again, that's what I said about the first one.

I expect this to be about the same. Ratner isn't a great director, but he does well enough with this stuff. For the record, I don't blame him for X3. They brought him in to be the fall guy for that one. Fox is solely to blame for that fiasco.

and I don't blame Ratner for that either. He sucks from my snob POV (I dig Mark Lester's COMMANDO, Harlin's Cliffhanger or Woo's M:I-2, to let you know how snob I am) but Rush Hour is nowhere on par with glorious old buddy movies. Lethal Weapons series was 100 times better, even the 4th geriatric instalment.

The Rush Hour films are okay, just okay. I really prefer the humor of the Shanghai Noon series. The fights are far more elaborate and entertaining, Owen Wilson is a less hostile and racist foil to Jackie Chan, and I love the worlds they've created in those movies, rather than "just another modern cop movie". Shanghai Dawn, please!

That was the best thing he's done in ages - I'd be there in a heartbeat for a sequel to that one. Way underrated movie. Ten Tigers of Canton are the shit. The slapstick stuff is vintage Jackie. Karen Mok has an ass you just want to cbew on and she speaks flawless English. Arnold. There's only a handful of moderately annoying moments, and they're over quickly. Tbe end fight delivers the goods and is surprisingly rough for a PG Disney movie. Tbe obligatory cameos are mostly pretty cool, with one or two being absolutely fucking brilliant. Ken Lo (the dude with the legwork from DRUNKEN MASTER II) is in here, for Christ's sake. Walt would have liked it. See it if you haven't yet.

I, as well as a few others that have posted on here, don't get why you hate Brett Ratner so much. You think he's the reason they're not doing an X4 movie? Get over yourself people! After the Sunset was bad, but I blame the script and not the director. He's good at his job. Give him a decent script and he can get the job done. Are you expecting an academy award from him?

He is, isn't he? And I thought it was quite a while ago - has this been in production that long?

He was just born looking like he's 80. He's always been that way.
