I'm there for X-Files 2, hell they could even start up the show again (albeit with a younger cast and Mulder & Scully being mentors to the younger X-Files agents). I'd rather see that than another Law & Order or C.S.I. spinoff. Oh, and if they do make X-Files 2 get someone other than Rob Bowman to direct
I'm totally there for X-Files 2 opening day.

Meh. Are they still going with the standalone movie idea (rather than an extension of the mythology)? As much as I preferred the episodic eps of the series, there's still a few loose ends there that need to be tied up, which they intentionally introduced / left open at the end. Not that I care any more but even still...

of Scotland. It was a medium sized role, but completely different than her Scully character. From what I hear she's the opposite of her television character, more bubbly like in Tristam Shandy. When you see someone playing the same character for nine years you can't really tell that the actress actually has range which apparently Gilliam Anderson has in spades. There are so few good actresses out there, it would be a shame if her talent wasn't in more films.

I should correct myself, there are few actresses out there who really impress me, who I think are Ian Holm great. Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett, and Kathy Bates (who I haven't seen in a movie for a long time) come to mind, but unfortunately Hollywood prizes looks over talent. That's not to say that many of the actresses might be capable of putting out great performances if given the chance but I don't think that's expected of them. Roles that go to Jessica Biel or Jessica Alba because they're expected to be eye candy rather than actually create a character. Maybe I'm not giving these younger actresses a chance to show their talent, and if there are some performances I should check out then please educate me, but I can't think of a single "hot young actress" who has done anything terribly impressive.
Kathy Bates????!!!!???

Kathy Bates has exactly two performances, loudmouth, and loudmouth psycho. That's it. Well cast, she can be effective enough, but great actress? Hardly.

The biggest problem with the current generation of actresses, and this is largely true of the new breed of actors to, is that far too few of them are interested in the craft of acting, and of bettering themselves as an artist with each new role. No, this new breed, they don't want to be actors so muchg as they want to be "stars". It's the fame, the glitz, the glamour, the attention and adulation that they seek, this whole "acting" thing is just a means to get there for them. It is possible to be both, but most frankly don't seem all that interested. Stardom to them is the be all and end all. It's kinda depressing actually.

working on x-files? part of my love for the show was thinking that everyone loved working together and loved their job doing that show. Now after this ungreatful cunt has gone out and admitted she hated everything about it, it just ruins the whole experience for the show now. I don't know why I would watch the new movie considering how "tortured" she was doing the whole thing over again. christ what a letdown...

In my opinion, there's more to Kathy Bates than just being a "loudmouth", although she is one of the few actresses with the gravitas to make it work. The quiet moments in Misery and Delores Claiborne are good examples of her changing her volume. Anyway, you're probably right about actresses wanting to be stars rather than caring about the craft of acting, although I don't think Hollywood asks them to be anything more than stars. It seems to me the majority of directors and producers seem content to just put an anorexic body on the screen, so I think they share a good deal of the blame as well.

Straightheads was terrible, but for anybody who'd like to see Anderson in something great, I'd recommend the BBC mini-series based on Charles Dickens 'Bleak House', for which she was BAFTA nominated. There may be no nudity or aliens in it, but it's incredibly gripping and Anderson is fantastic as the haunted Lady Dedlock. She also had a role in the Oscar winning 'The Last King of Scotland', which is worth checking out.

What Could Xfiles 2 possibly be about?
by pockybot
May 1st, 2007
03:44:30 PM
The XFiles worked in the 90's, because the internet wasnt widely used, and most people thought conspiracies were the work of fictions. Now most of America knows how truly dark and evil the US government really is. They do and have engaged in horrific conspiracies and coverups. Oh, and the world's bees really are dying now. What the heck could Xfiles 2 be about? Maybe it could be where Mulder and Skully work for homeland security, trying to debunk "9/11" and "Bush lied about Iraq" theories?

I will be in line opening day. And yes, I was (and AM) a Firefly fan. I'm just surprised that FOX let the X-Files play more than 11 episodes before cancelling it, like they've done every good show since (with the possible exception of the first few seasons of 24). The X-files didn't really become a hit with viewers in the first season, but it became a huge cultural phenomenon. Why do they let shit like Bones continue and cancel a good show like Drive (or yes, Firefly).

If i got to know, that X-Files 2 get a happy-End, then i'll watch it, if it doesn't, it's just the same crap than before(I mean the End, not the Series). Damn, the Ending was the worst imaginable, PLEASE Give a good ending, at least like War of the Worlds had, that was awesome. But X-Files: Making hope all the time, telling good stories, but the Ending-Movie stated: All what happened was totally useless, because an upcoming Invasion will totally overrun us(that was the point, where my love for X-Files died a horrible death)

...that's the sort of thing that makes life worth living. Bring on X-FILES 2, better late than never, and I've almost got the rancid taste of the last couple of seasons out of my mouth by now so I'd actually be able to enjoy it. As for behind the scenes drama, a lot of the trouble on X-FILES was more or less the result of Duchovny forcing the production to relocate to LA, against the wishes of damn near everyone else involved with the show, who wanted to stay in Vancouver. I bet he's still persona non grata in that town - I was an extra in a huge crowd scene towards the end of the Vancouver era (the chess match filmed at BC Place) and all 10,000+ of us had to be explicitly instructed not to boo him when he showed up. Late, naturally.

His X-Files episodes were outstanding. Hollywood A.D. and the one with the baseball playing alien were pretty great. The one directed by Anderson was cool, but a bit pretentious. But, on the other hand, it had the Stacy Haiduk hotness going for it.

As an (still) XF and Gillian Anderson fan, it concerns me that she is known 'round here for nips, boobs and "meatflaps." Though Americans may not have seen her if they weren't seeking her out, she's worked steadily in the UK since XF came to an end. This includes the aforementioned theater productions, Bleak HOuse, Tristam Shandy, and Last King of Scotland. She also did a wonderful little movie called THE MIGHTY CELT, starring alongside Brit fave Robert Carlisle (Full Monty and 28 Weeks Later). The movie is really the story of a boy and his (racing) dog but Gillian has a nice role as the boy's mom with a secret that comes to light. It's not on DVD here but plays occasionally on IFC. The Irish accents are hard to understand at times, including Gillian's, but it is another great performance. Tyrone McKenna, who plays her son, is a real gem too. Many here seem to doubt her talent and versatility but those of us that watched XF closely knew she was capable of the performances she has recently graced us with. Despite the so-so reviews and depiction of graphic rape and revenge, I hope we get to see Straightheads here. This year, she'll be working on the new film, "Helen," as well. And if anyone's counting, bring on XF2 and Scully! Can't wait!
