Because this is a wonderful little non-genre show that has a Buffy/Firefly/OC-esque following around the world, there should be no reason to question the validity of it's continuation. If you want the viewing figures to go up try the following. Run the series concurrently with no breaks, change the time slot to place it near a "ratings" show (i.e. run it AFTER the Pussy Cat Dolls - not INSTEAD of), run a few VMathons before the next series so people can catch this little gem, advertise it solidly, make a big POS presence for the DVD sets, and use Kirstins face on every bus and frisbee you can find. Rob Thomas is hugely talented and needs a broad brush to tell his stories, give him the chance to create the show he wants to rather than adopting the usual "Sword of Damocles" approach to ordering/renewal. Did no one out there in TV land learn the lessons from Firefly? I understand you have to be a slave to advertising revenue in the short term, but in the long term the DVD sales alone will be a goldmine, and you have the movie rights too... All you have to do is get this work of family/advertiser friendly fare to series five and all your dreams of avarice will be realised. Think about it.
Maybe lack of alternatives will save it.

That's what I felt helped save BSG for another year, the probability that any replacement would do worse. If nothing else, I hope the CW learn something from the axing of Angel (given everything that followed for years did much, much worse).

As much as TV and CAIR wants us to believe there are attacks on Muslims everyday in the US, it just doesn't happen. And besides a few high profile cases several years ago, there are very few so-called hate crimes against minorities overall. In fact where I am, there have been more staged hate crimes BY minorities for political gain than real ones, especially on college campi. Something I have to give VM credit for in previous episodes. I'm sure they will handle this as well. But just to provide a little reality check to the prevailing world view as Congress considers a far reaching hate crimes bill that would curtail freedom of speech and promulgate more litigation. Otherwise, Go V!
Oh, well.

I honestly don't have it in me to hold out any hope that we'll see VM back in any form. I'm looking forward to the remaining episodes, but I just have no faith whatsover in the CW at this point, and fully expect to be ignoring the network altogether for the foreseeable future.

Though I do have some faith in Rob Thomas. Like you say, he does have a decent track record when it comes to handling complex issues. The episode earlier in the season with Tim Foyle's pregnant girlfriend and her preacher father was handled much better than I ever would have imagined. My guess is that the daughter will end up being the culprit

Yes, I'm glad it's back. No, I'm not happy about standalones. Yes, I hope the episodes are great. Yes, this will make a cancellation even more crushing. I've pretty much assumed it will be cancelled, which is never good. I just wish the CW hadn't told everyone if certain expectations had been met ,the show'd be fine, and then reneged on it. And all of you are right, they DON'T have other quality programming. This year, more than any other seems to have been more frustrating in regard to network TV, and studio interference.

The reason this show is so great, is when things like O'Dell's murder was being concluded, and the majority of us had an idea of who the killer was, it was still presented in a way that made the reveal interesting and entertaining.

I don't think the specific number of hate crimes specifically matters, nor the number of attacks on minorities. It's still pretty wrong, and it seems like an especially noxious kind of crime (to attack/kill someone specifically because of their race/sexuality/etc.). Just to ask, how will this hate crimes bill curtail freedom of speech and promulgate more litigation? I do recall seeing some people complain that they won't be able to spout their virulent attacks about how homosexuals are evil and destroying the country, for example, but how specifically does the hate crimes legislation deal with that? Just in that it would be seen as inciting violence, or something else? If so, I'm still not totally sure what the problem is. It's one thing to say you hate fags/muslims/blacks/etc. and so forth, but quite another to advocate physical violence or threats against them.

a situation where you have the prosecutors playing "thought police". Because a guy has a tattoo of a Swastika on his arm and he beats up a guy who's Jewish and steals his wallet, does that necessarily make it a hate crime? I say no, it doesn't. And this is coming from a Jew.

But I guarantee you there will be immense political pressure to use hate crime legislation in a ton of cases - whether or not there is proper indication for it.

Bottom line is: if you commit a crime, you broke a law. That law should be enough to work with. There's no need to throw another law on top of it that speaks to the potential (or supposed) motivation for someone's criminal actions. Hate Crime legislation is being proposed because of Politically Correct hand-wringing and pressure from minority groups. Do you think "hate crimes" weren't around a hundred years ago? A thousand? What is the possible benefit of having hate crime laws? Deterrence? No, I think not. I see the great potential for abuse with such laws in place. Prosecutors up for re-election, for instance. Look at Mike Nifong in the Duke rape case. Had he had hate crime legislation to work with, I assure you THAT would have been injected into the mix as well. So these guys would have been branded racists as well as rapists. And THAT is the kind of thing you can expect to see on a daily basis with hate crime legislation.

I was just at the "Heroes" talkback saying I wouldn't drop into a discussion of a show I don't watch just to make a smart-ass remark, so this was a joke. Sorry, I just couldn't resist. A well-written episode with some appreciated callbacks, but Logan would not have put a picture of himself on a cake, and I really wish I was seeing the Wallace/Mac mystery that was supposed to be taking place. And yes, the Piz thing doesn't work for me, but CatVutt's perspective of it being purely rebound-based makes me slightly less upset about it. Although the ending with Veronica going somewhere with him doesn't bode well. I really hope the next episode doesn't start with the two of them in bed while he talks about how this would make a good opener for his radio show or something. It's unfortunate because in behind the scenes stuff Chris Lowell is hysterical and him and Bell have amazing chemistry. I just wish his character was more like that. All in all, it WAS a good episode, just minor quibbles, and next week, Paul Rudd.

i can deal with the standalones as thigns progress. the whole resturant thing was bit predictable. notice the middle eastern woman was the hot italian chick from the angel epsiode when spike and angel go to italy. gipsiy Ptui, i shall speak of them no more!

ronnies bang out of order though piz is the rebound thing, poor chap, still, if he gets to bang vm before the season finishes and its 5 years in the future, i say well played that man

there is n absence of really good tv at the moment, 24, galatica, heroes, boston legal, house and lost are the only things i watch regulary. Please CW dont wipe VM off that list. It's an awesome show and deserves to continue.

Episode was great. I liked the forshadowing of the potential FBI Season during her talk to the school kids. All of the characters were utilized properly. The smart ass comments were good. The Iraqi thing bordered on a bit After School Special but I didn't mind it. And the ending was great. I thought I'd hate Veronica and Piz but it makes sense. That we know. But should The CW require some kind of change, they should forward the series to V's FBI years, write in as much of the cast as possible, and (naturally) keep Rob Thomas in charge. Most importantly, they should alter the look/name of the show, in order to attract new viewers and make it seem new to lure in the closed-minded morons who won't watch now. Win-win-win. That's what she said.

Actually, I'm not quite sure what a Pussycat Doll is. This wasn't the best episode, but it was nice to see some old characters back in action. The Piz thing is stupid and I hope it ends before the season does (it probably will).

I'm actually not too keen on the FBI flash forward thing. Veronica is best when she's unrestrained. I kind of like the notion, implied by this ep, that she might take over the agency. Yeah, it might be beneath her, but surely someone with her investigatory skills, could find a few good investments to make up for the low paying job.

And yet, rating upto 50% more than Battlestar.
