Met him backstage at one of the shows he did in Houston. I interrupted him eating nachos, but he was a mensch. Can't wait for RATATOUILLE.

Every time you see these glimpses of scenes it's simply brilliant. Patton is a great actor, brilliant casting choice. Can't wait to see this one. Nr 1 on my anticipation list.

Yeah, it looks like they're the new Disney all right, even though they're a part of Disney now. Disney started as an animation company and later also started making live-action films. I suppose if Pixar does a live action "John Carter of Mars", they'll be doing the visual effects. It'll be a whole new level for them, because they'll have to produce photorealistic CGI instead of the slightly cartoonish CGI of their animated movies. Although the backgrounds in Cars for example sure look real to me. But I'm sure it's a task they'll be able to handle. It's sure going to be interesting.

it has a great vibe, looks like a classic. Only gripe i have about Pixar is that the faces are still looking too much like the ones in toy story: like toys, flat and featureless. I mean I've seen much more interesting character in the faces on the comics that some of the pixar-people are making. I understand it might be difficult to animate more detailed faces, but they do a lot of really detailed work on everything they animate, why not more on the faces? I've seen a few european ones, like the german "Gaya" and the norwegian/british "set Willy free" that actually are better than Pixar and all their resources, in that aspect.
It looks awesome

There's only one thing that worries me: Janeane Garofalo's French accent. From the little bits I've heard, it sounds...a bit off. I wish she would have just used her normal voice. An out of context American accent is far less distracting than a horrible fake French accent.

We don't need "more detailed" faces in Pixar movies

You go too far down that path and you get the eerie, "photorealistic" mannequins of Final Fantasy and The Polar Express. Keep my Pixar characters " toon-y, please.

Keep it stylized, Pixar. To t.piper . . . go back and take a good look at the faces in Toy Story vs. The Incredibles. I won't go into the intricate nature of sub-surface scattering and radiosity (mostly because its way over my head), but if you can't tell how much more "alive" the Pixar characters have gotten over the years, you must be half-blind. Oh, and Mr_Incredible - if Pixar actually has the rights to John Carter of Mars and they make the massive mistake of doing it live-action instead of fully animated . . . I will openly weep. Take "The Incredibles" and turn the abstraction dial three clicks towards "realistic" and we might finally get a 3D animated flick that could be rated PG-13 and people might still go see.
Congrats to you Patton Oswalt!!!

That was just so fantastic watching that. I could not be happier. One of my favorite stand up guys gets the lead!!! Him and David Cross are prob my two favorite modern day comedians. Great news indeed for Patton who I hope goes onto to major success following this movie. I cannot wait to see this.
not photorealistic, just more detailed

i know Pixar has improved, they're starting to look full of life. And the photorealistic style of specially Tom Hank's Polar Express is ugly.dead.creepy...But it shall be interesting to see if Beowulf wont look a whole lot more interesting...not to mention Avatar.I want Pixar to maintain the cartoony style too, just hope they give their cartoony faces even more depth and personality.
and i have to say i think Brad Bird

Wow. They're just so far ahead of everyone else (yeah I'm gushing and I just don't care). Not only that but technically (or cinematically I guess) they make it look so easy. Pacing, shot selection, blocking, staging, sense of geography, whatever. All flows so smoothly. Gah. There I go...
Great stuff!

F Shrek and all that other crud. Brad Bird is an a-mazin' writer and has his shit together. I highly doubt he would put his name on anything that wasn't up to scratch.

More detailed? More depth (but still cartoony)?

Download the 1080p version of the 9 minute clip and look at the bit where Linguini is all wet (limp?) and the way the light plays off the pores in his translucent skin. You can't see it so well in the lower rez stuff, but the hirez will knock your socks off. I don't care what anyone says - HD is much better even for 'talking heads', as the more detail and therefore subtleties of facial movement and expression you can see, the more effective and affecting the performance. Anyway, Ratatouille is looking awesome to me.

And thank you to the folks who posted it in HD - Fucking Disney.com seems to think the net is an American thing and doesn't offer that stuff if you live O.S. It's the g-l-o-b-a-l internet, Fuckos! The whole POINT is that you can communicate no matter where you are. I'm almost as annoyed about that as I am excited about this film. Rant over.

Oh yeah...
