Oh please oh please oh please let them be that hyperbolic on the genuine poster. 'Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg change the history of motion pictures with their stunning and revolutionary visualisation?' Fucking genius! Massive, massive exaggeration is exactly what this film needs.

'Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg change the universe with their unified theory of everything (also, big robots) which also incorporates a cure for cancer, a pizza that never goes cold, the phone number of a cheap yet beautiful hooker, and a perfectly safe and effective penis enlarger!' Stick that on the poster.

by Err
Apr 25th, 2007
10:14:53 AM
Was it Superman: The Movie? Hell no. But it was up there with Superman II which was a solid B or 3 out of 4 star movie. I thought that Routh (first time leading man) did a good job (not great, not phenomenal, but good). I thought Kevin Spacey was great. I felt the movie was burdened with having to reintroduce the Man of Steel after nearly a 20 year absence from the big screen, plus trying to help erase the horrible memory of Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Were there problems with the film? Yes. But there are problems with all films. Superman Returns was good, but not great. I have high hopes for the Man of Steel.

Cmon guys, stop ragging on AICN, remember when they posted up the images of the UNDERDOG and PIRATES posters months before they were released and they had similar incorrect names (place holders) and questionable tag lines? Then low and behold when the posters were finalized they were exactly the same with the correct credits? Be happy that AICN provides you 1st looks at work in progress instead of nit-picking at every friggin pixel for something to complain about. And next month when this poster is released in theaters how many of you nay'sayers will return to bow your head w/ an apology? Nary a few I predict! *AICN, great job~!* -ED

Michael Bay (who directed such hits as Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, and The Island) and Steven Spielberg (creator of obscure, beloved indie classics such as Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and the smaller, intimate film Raiders of the Lost Ark) join together (not unlike the bots in Voltron, although that is a separate franchise) to change the history of this artistic medium, ertswhile beknownst as motion picture film but abbreviated here as "movies", with visualization, composition, and form that can only be described as "stunning", as well as other pertinent adjectives such as "awesome", "ground-breaking", and "orgasmic". *** Do you think you could cut all that nonsense down guys? and i will go further... Not one person on this talback, ever wanted this film to be made. They akin this film to defacing the Cistine Chapel. There preciousness regarding this film masks their hatred for hollywood. Its a kind of how dare they take our beloved tranformers and turn it into a movie directed by bay and starring le bouef and written by alex Kurtchmen and Ocri.It wouldnt have mattered, who starred in it or had speilberg made it himself. It is the fact that film is being at all. and doesnt really matter who wrote it either. this is one example of a film it would have been better to wrap an iron chain padlock around this script and with note that read. do not make ever. on it and beware the wrath of fan boy bay haters emblazoned on said script. The haters not only hating bay for directing and the the two screen writers, Robert Ocri and Alex Kructhman, hated that there beloved transformers has been truncated in some way by becoming a pop action movie starring the talkbackers most detested actor Shia labouef. The haters hate everyone, producers, directors, writers, general Us populace and anyone who opinion happens to different. All i said yesterday was I found The man who wasnt there boring and I trod on someone toes. Some one who liked the film and I dont seriously have a problem with somebody liking a film, that I didnt. I met a man once, who was hatred for america was strong that he wouldnt/couldnt differentiate america and americans. I thought they guy was cool to begin with but he was into all that southamerica lefty stuff. the more I got to know this guy the less freindly I became towards him and I do know he had his own problems. later on he became a stantist, I think. Haters hate and should be avoided.

The sheen of the chorine-treated poolwater glistening on her taut abdomen. The ominous offscreen click-a-clack of some giant metal menace contorting itself, like some rubik's cube from hell, from the likeness of a Chevy truck into the visage of humanoid metal horror. The knowing, butterflies-in-tummy inducing anticapation of the carnal frolic to transpire, his teenage fingers fumbling at the seemingly innocuous string that, when pulled, will send her panties cascading down the length of her smooth, nubile legs to the floor. Robots. Heavy petting. Steel-against-steel. Flesh against flesh. Oil and blood. Lubrisol. K-Y. Come? Oh yes--there will be come.

we played outside. One of our favorite games was "war," in which we'd be armymen, hiding on garage roofs and inside garbage cans, and we'd throw rocks and sticks at each other. This gives me and people my age the right to critique movies if we want to. Today's kids live their childhoods watching movies instead of acting out the scripts in their brains in their backyards. End rant, unbuckle pants.

Okay, so somebody making a serious claim that they have been personally wronged by a filmmaker who wouldn't know them from Adam (or Eve) seems a little overreactive, but understand that one person's "just a toy line" is another person's "treasure".

I admit I'm disappointed with the way this movie appears to be turning out, but I'm well aware that there's plenty of people who don't have nearly the same amount of nostalgic investment in G1 Transformers as I do and thus aren't nearly as bothered by the upcoming film.

But, to relegate your opinion to the arguement that people shouldn't be so overtly complaining about a film "based on a toy line" is misguided.

"Toys" are just for kids? Ask Marvel if comics are just for kids. Ask Scholastic Publishing if HP books are only for kids. As Pixar if their animated films are only for kids. Just because people enjoyed something when they were kids doesn't make it necessarily only "for kids."

And when we ran out of those, we just played tag. Sometimes TV tag if we were feeling daring. TV tag was never a very long game b/c we only got 4 TV channels, and one of them only came half the time (damn you early Fox!). So we'd run out of shows after about 5 minutes and everyone would just re-use "Scooby-Doo" and "Flintstones".

Then our dad would try and play sometimes and he'd say "60 Minutes!" and we'd just stare at him like he had puked catepillars out his nose.

i have as much or more nostalga about the original transformers, being late 30s here, and i havent been beat into submission by bay and his followers, ive liked everything about this movie from day 1 and i think it will make millions and millions of dollars... why do i think that ? because i realize to do that it has to evolve to the big screen, not just copy over with expensive cgi, and i really do think this movie will make the scar that beast wars and beast machines left on my soul fade just a little....and if you do have toooooo much nostalga for something u watched and played with when u were like 12-15 and are deeply hurt that "your" transformers were distorted, its time to put down your ps3 controller and your xmen toys and go upstairs from your basement, kiss mommy and daddy bye-bye and get a life.....

kudos for spelling "debris" correctly. ive seen horror spellings before ....... i too turned my head sideways like a curious pooch when the term "midichlorian" was coined in "the phantom menace" ...but of course there HAD to be an explanation i guess...i guess by episode 4 they had all gone brain dead and forgot about midichloians...perhaps the empire went all postal checking people for midichlorians to find prospective apprentices for the sith.... who knows.....probably cuz lucas thought it up in the 30 yrs btween trilogies and thought it souded cool... and speaking of lucas, he is the only place where the words "raping my childhood" should come into play...how many times has he ripped the clothes off, fucked, then redressed episodes 4-6 ? i lost count

The absurdly hyperbolic quote at the top is precisely in line with the Japanese trailer that featured a brief introduction with Spielberg and Bay. The gibberish credit block is apparently the norm for work-in-progress poster designs - see also the first released images of the ATHF movie poster, and lots of others as well. The imagery of mass destruction has Japanese market written all over it - think back to the downright-alarming BATTLE ROYALE II teaser from a few years back that deliberately and explicitly re-imagined 9/11 (times fifty) in a Japanese context... for obvious reasons, this sort of massive apocalypse figures prominently in Japanese cinema. Nope, I don't doubt the authenticity of this for a second. A fraud would probably have carried a real credit block.

I thought this it was about Transforming Robots? If it is then I'd like to simply say this; I for one am looking forward to it as, for me, it has a great deal of nostalgic value - me being a child of the 80's and so on. And forgive my curiosity but why is there a culture of hatred for young Master LeBeouf. Its just that it sounds as though some are 'dissing' (I believe the popular Americanism goes) him because others are. Leave the poor chap alone. He's just a boy after all.

color scheme...?
by Napoleon Park
Apr 25th, 2007
03:51:00 PM
Okay, I see the obvious similarity in layout and subject matter, but the T poster is white yellow gold and brown with gray and some blue. The DI poster is red orange yellow with a bit of blue. The one poster may remind you of the other, but it's not because of 'the color scheme'. Unless it's the gradation, which should also remind you of half of all sunset postcards you've ever seen. *** Someone mentioned "two cities". Well, it could be a pair of twin cities or two sides of a city divided by a bay or river. And it might imply an explosion so much more powerful than our conventional atomic and nuclear weapons that it blasts two adjoining cities. Or a smaller explosion flattening a huge area in the center of one city. Hmm, I like the idea of a city with a BAY with a big BOMB, if you get the implications there. *** Just be glad there are no frilly mechanical eyelashes on that robot eye. *** Eyelashes on Megatron = lips on nipples. No, make that "not equal" - lips on nipples GOOD. *** Oh please let this movie be huge so we can have a wave of cheap imitations. Mighty Morphin' Power VOLTRON and a live action GIGANTOR. If this and Speed Racer are hits, you know it'll happen. And Marvel can hop on the bandwagon with Micronauts and Rom: Space Knight movies. Bill Mantlo's caregivers need the money. *** Me, I want a live action Jonny Quest movie followed six months later with a live action Venture Brothers parody. But then I'm greedy that way.

Also I have to say the scenes that have been filmed on Youtube, remind me a bit of Point Break with the bank robbery and masks etc.

First, my point was that maybe to you TF was "just a toy line", but why should that be an excuse for wanting a high-quality film to come out of it? And I don't just mean expensive digital effects. This movie's NOT made expressly for the same "kid" audience the original series was made for, I expect the writing and character development to be SUPERIOR to it, not on par or worse. But that's what it appears we're going to end up with. But since it has big robots, people think "hey, you're getting your Transformers, so shut up".

Secondly, I never said anything about this movie not making alot of money. Cuz it;ll probably make a sjitload. But BO is not an indicator or quality.

I'm not "deeply hurt" that things look different in the movie from the G1 designs. A few of them definitely look awkward or just crappy (Megatron, Starscream, the faces of some of the others), but I'm not really hung up on that stuff. I read the leaked script a few times and it was a very UNinspiring experience. granted, things can change from draft script to finished film, but much of the stuff I've seen so far seems to match up very closely.

My nostalgia for TF's ends with G1. What little curious looking I did at Beast Wars when it came out didn't interest me and Transformers went off my radar for a long time. I don''t have misconceptions that everything in the film should look/act/be like something out of the various cartoon series. In fact, I think it's amazing how many departures there have been from G1 and how many new characters there are since that time. Shows me that the TF world has continued to evolve. In the meantime I've left my parents house, graduated college and am doing pretty well (without a PSP, thanks. I'll stick to my original NES. Never even played a PSP.)

So In the end, I don't really care so much that things have changed, I just wanted more out of a big movie version of something I really enjoyed when I was a kid. I've enjoyed very few of Bay's "big explosion movies" in the past (The Rock was good, though) mostly b/c they're written, produced, and marketed to appeal to a mass audience, which usually comes off looking/sounding very dumbed down with its own Aerosmith soundtrack. That's not knock to Aerosmith, it's just that the ballads that get written for these movies are done for the paycheck, and most of the artists admit it. It's too bad that TF is falling into that category of movie which has its plot and acting watered down for consumption by a mass-audience, but it is. Which is why you're right that it'll make big money. If it wasn't the studio would be making it. It's all about making $ on their investment.

Whole concept of this movie was lame.I mean the idea of gigantic robot organisms(One good side , one bad)coming to Earth and engaging war with each other seemed pretty far fetched.Added to that the secondary ability they possess of being able to "TRANSFORM?" into Earth vehicles and what not just struck me as preposterous.Dont get me wrong i like the concept but i feel they should have maybe geared towards an animated series,or even graphic novel /comicbook. As i said i admire this new origonal concept, but i feel the creators have chosen the wrong medium. Can you imagine the toy sales if they aimed this at the japaneese animated market?

#1 reason to hate Bay

For all you diehard Generation 1 fans who are craving the blocky look and shitty stories, the real reason you should hate Michael Bay is that he created a world where Generation 1 doesn't exist. Think about. In this Transformers world there are no Generation 1 Transformers. They simply never happened. Now THAT'S awful. There is a real reason to be pissed off. Douche bags.

Picked up some Lagavulin & Coal Ila per your request/recommendation. Of the three, I am still partial to Laphroaig, but Lagavulin comes in a close second. A damn close second. The proverbial jury is still out on Coal Ila. I need to give it a few more shots. Heh. Loves me some Islay, peaty single malts. The wife, not so much. She prefers the blends over the single malts. The only single malt she enjoys it Balvenie. My first single malt and I always have some around (Doublewood 12 year). She's not perfect, but damn close. Just kidding. She's the epitome of perfect but we already covered that. Matter fact, we are both enjoying some right now (Laphroaig 10 Year for me Johnnie Walker Black Label for her). Yes, the prices for those two (shockingly enough) are quite nice.

For me, the Islay Malts are definitely the way to go. They taste the way I always expected fine liquor to taste: robust, smoky, and smooth. Lagavulin tends to be my favorite when it comes to Scotch...especially if I'm drinking it neat. However, I have to say, I've enjoyed no finer drink than a particular Laphroaig-on-the-rocks I had one night while visiting Manhattan. Something about where I was, who I was with, and the atmosphere...

I've only had the Caol Ila a couple of times. Stick with it though; I think it's a decent choice. It's very similar in tone to Talisker (also one of the greats).

Good call on the Balvenie! The 10yr. Founder's Reserve was the first single-malt I ever tried. Really good stuff; I actually prefer it to the Portwood 21 (if you can imagine that)! I'll have to give the Doublewood a shot.

Funny that you mentioned blends. My first experience with Scotch was trying some of my mom's Dewar's White Label. Ha! What is it with women and blended Scotch whisky?! Well, it sounds like you've got a good one there. Salut to you both!

at whiny boyman Method parts. I'd have gone with Eckhart, but now I love the idea of him as Green Arrow. My favorite depiction of Cap was when he was written by Gruenwald and that is the definitive characterization to me - I don't like the idea of him as some Midwestern cornfed farmboy like Clark Kent (not that there is anything wrong with that), and that is how he is portrayed in Ultimates, and was even drawn that way in his regular title more recently before they decided to kack American idealism. They are obviously making a comment - yawn, they're so out of touch with Cap fans and never got how broadly he was written, or perhaps didn't care. Anyway, I always though Eckhart was perfect because Cap was an urbanite, a New Yorker who worked as a cartoonist/drawing advertisements and was portrayed as sophisticated but not suave.
Welling is too boyish. Cap needs to be a man.

because she was a ninja, of course. And I thought Flint was the hotness. Actually it was hinted that something was going on with Flint and Lady Jaye in the cartoon.

considering it's a Bay movie there should be a 2 in there 'cause 2 is bigger and badder than 1.

You know, I felt bad for you back when PharteGODD posted your personal email address on AICN's TBs. I even fought the good fight on your behalf. But now, your posts on these boards amount to nothing more than an excuse to flame and bash Bay. You've reduced yourself to a spamming Troll no more worthy than the Murphy lackeys you so despise.

I've seen your screenname on the official film messageboard and I've seen you pull the same crap over there. Tell us, what's it like to get slammed by Nelson and all the other Transformer's messageboard geeks?

BTW: your binary is frickin' lousy. Anyone who has read a plot summary knows there's not a spoiler to be found in that coded garbage. Back under the bridge with you, man.

I am not feeling the Joe movie. And forget He-Man

You're making fun of Gany right?? Your post made me laugh. "Michael Bay makes more money than you, but still you people hate him!" lol If you're being serious wtf does his paycheck have to do with ANYthing?! Bill Gates is one of the wealthiest men in the world - do you think that means everyone should love him and want to buy Windows Vista? Does it somehow even imply that Windows Vista is the best, most indispensable program ever written? If anything, Michael Bay having more money than anyone here does more to support the FACT that this movie is going to suck donkey balls. I'm sure he's financially comfortable. When the film bombs, he won't have to sell in his car to pay the bills or buy groceries. There's little pressure for him to get it right, and he's expressed zero desire to do so. Do you see the error of your "logic" or should I draw pictures?
Elaboration...

Loser geeks like me go in with a total suspension of disbelief when you know you're about to see a film with a guy who shoots lasers from his eye(s) and another dude with an adamantium skeleton and claws. With TFMRs, you just have to go in remembering that this all started with a line of toys. Just get past the fact that for whatever reason, these robots from another galaxy disguise themselves in the shape of earth vehicles, even though it seems logical that they'd have no reason to do so--or even know what earth vehicles look like--until their arrival here.

...you have to cut a little slack for Bay and company allegedly skipping the "Generation 1" phase. Christ, very few people other than geeks are aware of the generations (I wasn't). Kinda like that whole marvel ultimate universe thing. Unless you collect comics now, you have no reason to know about the "ultimate" characters and storylines. That's why so many balk at the idea of a cloud or swarm galactus. It might play off as more "credible," but it's not the Galactus the world is familiar with. As for TSFRs, I imagine they had to work under the assumption that there might not be a sequel. So they design cool looking-post millenium Autobots and Decepticons based on an amalgam of the different generations (notwithstanding some major overal to vagina face megatron and a camaro Bumblebee). Whatever. I'm just saying, don't hang him just based on that.

Just because someone makes more money than I do does not immediately engender my respect for that person. For instance: There are many celebrities whose personalities -- at least from they way they are portrayed in the press -- make them seem like total bitches, dicks, assholes and dimwits. I do not respect or envy them. Mostly, I feel bad for them, because they a) feel the need to act so outrageously to make up for their foibles, and b) live their lives as someone else's spectacle. But I do not necessarily respect them. Tom Cruise is a good example. "I'M IN LOVE WITH KATIE HOLMES!!! SCIENTOLOGY ROCKS!!! AAAAAIIIEEEEE!!!" Should I respect that? I think not. Oops, wait a minute; he makes more money than I do. I s'pose I am just a loser. Not.
