This is the year I got a couple of my friends to finally watch 24. In previous years, I tried to convince them how great it was and they always said, well, it's already into the season, I'll catch it from the beginning next year. And this was finally the year they made good on their promise. Which means every Tuesday morning, I get emails ridiculing me for my horrible taste in television. As bad as this season has been, I may as well have told them to go pick up the new Goo Goo Dolls disc. That would have been less embarrassing.

The reason people complain...
by seanny_d
Apr 23rd, 2007
12:22:02 PM
is because there was once a point where you may have LOVED a show and then it becomes crap, so you complain hoping that eventually things will redeem themselves and become the show you loved again.

Also there are still moments of entertainment within the show, but the overall story has just punched me in the face from shittiness. And brain damaged Audrey is fucking retarded. And not because Audrey BECOMES retarded. But because it's used for SHOCK VALUE and allows for one more character that's at least marginally liked to go away. Teri, Mason, Nina, Tony, Michelle, Palmer, even Kim wants nothing to do with Jack, Curtis, President Logan (who knows, but he's not back this season), and now Audrey? Seriously. I get that this is the story of "Jack the Tragic Hero" but do you really need to fuck over EVERY INTERESTING CHARACTER IN THE PROCESS? The only person left who I could remotely care about is Chloe, and even she has been rather lame this season. She's best when she's completely out of control. But somehow she's acting more and more normal. Buchanan PALES in comparison to former heads of CTU, and Milo, Nadia, and Morris are essentially useless characters.

Oh, and KILL Ricky Schroder. Thank you.

Aside from the first couple episodes, this has been, by far, the worst season of 24 to date. I remember all the hype when it was about to start, too, where every critic was talking about how great the show was, the hype machine was in full swing and the anticipation was building to nigh unseen levels. Cut to 3 months later and it's become a parody of itself. I haven't stopped watching, mind you, but I haven't been excited about this show since around episode 4 of this year. This show needs a complete overhaul.

by bobbyjoe
Apr 23rd, 2007
01:21:44 PM
I beginning to wonder if there's some kind of "The Producers" thing going on over at 24 this season. You know, you take out an insurance policy, then make a show so deliberately bad, it has to get cancelled, and then you collect your insurance cash. I mean, just reading the idiotic ending to tonight's episode sounds like its geared to piss off even the-- what-- two or three 24 fans out there who still have't completely lost patience with the show this season. I mean, they have to be doing this on purpose... don't they?

I wondered last week if the Chinese had some way of knowing whether Jack was giving them the real circuit board or a fake. Now we know. For being the number one superagent in the world, Jack was dumber than shit tonight. Why, oh why couldn't he have given them a tv remote chip or something? If he was going to blow the guy up anyway, why take the risk that things would go wrong like they do every time he's in a situation like this? I love 24 but now I enjoy it as a comedy as much as an action show. The writers stretched suspension of disbelief to the limit on this one.

Ms. Collins 5th Grade Class Presents "24: The Play"...
by FilmCritic3000
Apr 24th, 2007
01:36:35 AM
It's like I'm watching a fifth grade class play version of 24. What the hell happened? Like efilippi said so eloquently, there was a time when my palms would sweat and my pulse would quicken as I watched an episode of 24. Now I find myself growing totally apathetic and waiting for the hour to end. Anyone else feel the same way? The minute Audrey came back into the picture, I rolled my eyes. When Jack said to Audrey, "You're back." (paraphrasing here) I retorted, "Because your show got canceled." Rumor has it that Ricky Schroeder's being groomed to replace Kiefer. Anyone think there's any truth to that? If so, goodbye ratings. All in all, I'm very disappointed in this season. It's like the writers are just throwing crap against the wall and then saying, "Don't worry; the rabid fans will eat up whatever we put out there." Well, I'm full and I really don't feel like eating anymore after this season.

Special agent Silver Spoons
by fireclown
Apr 24th, 2007
07:09:29 AM
I like that Jack is being presented with a worthy nemesis at last in special agent Spoons. Doyle is a younger Jack, and I'm liking the interaction. He isn't falling for the standard Jack Bauer "get out of trouble sequence" of 1) Just start yelling at people 2) demand to know who's in charge and put yourself over the guy in the food chain 3) make a deal. They can get some respect out of me by ending the day with Doyle just running out of patience with jack and putting a frakking bullet in his head. I think Jack sort of wanted to blow himself up. He even dated Doyle to press the trigger. He is rapidly coming up on the point of no return. Finally, from a writing standpoint, I like the Audrey saga. She sold the crap out of having lost her mind last week just sitting there. And this isn't the first time she's had severe physical work related issues: last years "bleeding Audrey" image is one of the strong images that keep me watching this show. She's been crapped on almost as much as Jack. And it's probably been worse on her because she isn't anywhere near as strong as he is. This should be the last straw in my dream series ending, the hunting down and killing of a completely hateful Jack who is out to destroy the US.

Never thought I'd say that about 24. I've seen every episode since the first one of the first season. Which is why this season has been absolutely painful to watch. I don't remember another season where there were so many storylines that went unresolved and probably didn't need to be included in the first place. I'm looking at you, Bluetooth Bauer and your skeletor father. Not to mention the former president. All to find a Russian guy who simply confused the issue. Oh, so the Arabs are working together with the Russians, I get it. Wait, no, that's stupid. I feel like I already have so much invested, not only in the season, but in the characters. But the more good characters they get rid of, the less I have invested. And I won't get sucked in to another crappy season next year. If it starts sucking again, I'm out. Don't test me. I mean it this time.

...in what universe. There is no tension in 24 because it's hard to build it while you're insulting your audience's intelligence each and every week. Heroes is a quantitatively superior show on every conceivable level: better acting, better production value, way, way, way better writing. I understand that you, like a lot of us, are huge 24 fans, but let's retain a sense of critical perspective shall we? If Heroes jumps the shark like 24 did this year I will be the first to call it, so let's try to keep our critical eyes unblemished by nostalgia.

I'd like to know, if they don't drastically retool the show in at least some fashion next season, how many here are going to continue to watch?

A change in venue might work, if it means more Jack and _good_ replacement characters, unlike the ones this season.

Keeping it in LA, and just replacing Jack with Silver Spoons in the same kind of story would surely put the nail in the coffin.

As it stands now, I'm out at the end of this season. Too much politics, not enough action. I used to yell at the tv at the end of the old episodes, every one was a cliffhanger, now it's just meh, I'm looking at my watch, I want it to end. Jesus, CTU is the worst run organization on the planet, isn't it? The only interesting person is Lennox. Shifty prick has something up his sleeve. He'll probably be blown up by some weird nacho cheese bomb or something. End of line.

But yes, I will watch it until the end of this season. It will be a difficult decision next year: to watch or not. Makes me very sad that it's not a no-brainer.

And I think if Jack threw a branch over the pickup, Ricky would have never seen it!

Even though I was recording it. I dunno, at the height of the absurdity, with Rain Man and his brother, and then the end of Fayed, I was still with it, but now? The direction shift seemed like a great idea, but the execution is pretty hack. The 'chip' could've been anything the way Chang just took it, why bother with the real thing? Audrey's a blubbering wreck? There needs to be some serious overhaul next year, or this may slip off my radar.

I'm going to stick this season out, but as to whether I'll be back next season depends a lot on how they end THIS season. Though this season has pretty much been a train wreck, they could still at least end it with some sort of interesting setup for season 7. I'll give the first couple episodes of season 7 a shot, but at the first sign of suckage... I'm out.

Buchanans departure? Totally unnecessary & felt as random as the appearance of the autistic hacker. 24 is paying Keifer so much I don't think they have enough left over to pay anybody else a decent salary (see: the great cast purge of season 5). Bill was alright in my book & will be missed.

Spoons is definitely being groomed as a Keifer replacement. I think that's pretty obvious. I could tell from the moment he walked in being all hardass & looking like a mini Bauer that was the case. I think It shows a lack of imagination on the part of the producers tho, going with another guy who looks like Jack. I don't have the Ricky Shroeder hate that a lot of the others here seem to have, but I definitely don't think he has the right quality to carry the series after Keifers gone. Not enough Gravitas. As we've seen this season, after they've wiped out all their great characters, it's up to Keifer to carry the show & when he's not around, things start to drag. 24's writers & producers have no one to blame but themselves for that.

Is this a joke? I like Heroes. But the only decent actors on the show are the cheerleader, her dad, and cop who reads minds. Everyone else is just bland and mediocre. The indian actor is just terrible and his voiceover are cringeworthy. I have had my share of problems with 24 this season by the acting is about as good as it could be. Kiefer, Powers Boothe, and The Biscuit have all done great work. I just wished Jack had more screentime.

Both have cringe worthy performances during the season/individual episode. It is always more forgiving when that season/episode holds your attention better. Hence, a lot of 24 hate this season since 1)the plot is stale/old 2)All the good characters are dead/fired/incapacitated.

I am not a fanboy of any of these shows (24, Lost, Heroes, Prison Break, etc) I like Heroes. Hell, I will even buy the entire season on DVD when it comes out. That said, the show is nowhere near as good as any of these shows. I honestly think Lost and 24 are better acted than Heroes. Aside from a few noteworthy performances it is soap opera wood. Some of it is so bad it makes David Caruso look watchable. Ali Larter is a shit actress that belongs on some third-rate CW sitcom. I can't wait until next season when Heroes takes a nosedive in quality and the press and the fans all join together and declare some other shitty show the BEST SHOW EVA!

That season six was in trouble when it turned out at Leonard Betts was Jack's brother. If it were up to make me the show would have stopped with the WMD shit after the third season. I think the most frustrating thing about 24 is its refusal to take a chance and do something different. I suspect this has something to do with Joel Surnow who sees the show as a propaganda tool for his pathetic right-wing agenda. I would like to see a "Day in the life of" Jack Bauer styled season. We could have a whole season devoted to Jack being could in a Hurricane Katrina type situation. The possiblities are endless with the format and if they pull the same WMD plot out of their ass next season I will stop watching. I thought last night's episode was ok and I enjoyed seeing brain damaged Audrey. I just watched the show had better writing to exploit the dramatic possiblities of such a wacky storyline.

24, Lost "nowhere near as good" as Heroes? Really? Really... 24 has set the gold standard for wooden acting with every actor playing the exact same emotion with the exact same tone... my god. Lost is better but this season has been so bad that worries about acting are the last things people are worrying about. Heroes succeeds on every level that 24 and Lost fail at, including acting... ...and Ali Larter is exceptional in her dual-role.

I admit, I'm just watching out of habit now. Jack is missing for more than half the episodes, but when he shows up he does something idiotic. His "plan" to make the trade for Audrey was stupid. For once I was completely with CTU and even VP Noah to pull the plug on the deal. Now Audrey is brainwashed? This show really is becoming Days of Our Lives with assault rifles.

First of all Ultron, that bag of dicks line was priceless As for 24, as someone who only started watching the show since the beginning of Season 5, maybe I can offer a slightly fresher perspective. Jesus, Season 5 was enough to get me to pledge my eternal allegiance to this show. I didn't even know the characters and I got sucked in. The plot moved like a freight train, perfectly combining the action with the tidbits of emotion and character. Remember the one-two punch of Edgar Stiles death followed by Sean Astin's character when the gas was loose in CTU? That was a great fucking episode. And while it did make me wonder if there were always this many dangling plot threads (1. what the fuck happened to that woman and her son that Jack was shacking up with back at the beginning of S5, the one that Jack saved at the airport; can anybody tell me who they were? and 2. Remember Martha Logan's female aid, and her daughter was kidnapped and then what's-his-name found them in the motel room...did she die or what???)it was overall a very solid show. Now we get to Season 6. WTF??? It bothered me from the very beginning that the brother of the first black president had tap-danced his way into the White House between seasons. I mean, Christ, was Wayne even IN politics back at the end of S5 when he was running for his life and shit? And Jesus Christ, you need a fucking flow chart to keep up with the plot in this season. It's meandered so much I sometimes look back and go, 'Christ, were we really just killing Curtis like ten hours ago?' And if I have to sit through Chloe and Morris arguing one more time, I'm going to projectile vomit in the hopes it shorts out my tv. They got a regular soap opera going on in CTU--and while Nadia is the hottest of the hot--it sucks to be losing Bill. Goddamn, I hate Daniels, I liked Doyle at first but came to despise him quickly (and oh yes, he is being groomed as the Bauer 2.0, bet on it), and while Audrey's presence was sorely missed, it's somehow worse getting her back. But Wayne's breakdown on national TV was absolutely priceless!! Anyway, what I'm saying is that unless this Season ends on one fuck-all of a cliffhanger, I'm soley a Heroes man from now on...

I'm out too. 24 is nothing without Kiefer. It thrives on his energy, his emotion and his ruthlessness. Kiefer made 24 what it is today, and more or less has been carrying this franchise for a few seasons now (if not the beginning). If they let Ricky Skywalker take over next season, I'm out. Asshole shouldn't be mentioned in the same breathe as Keifer. With that said, I don't think this season is as bad as some others are saying, but its definetely lacking when Jack isn't on screen. And theres been a lot of that happening lately. The only time Jack should be slowly fazed out of the show is during it's series finale, when Jack finally bites it in the most dramatic, emotional, nail-biting, tear-inducing death in television history.

MR. ED: "OK Naaaaadia, I'll see what I can do."

If you think Ali Larter is a good actress than that explains why you are an irrational Heroes fanboy who will defend the mediocre acting and buy into the hype. Oh and Lost is getting good again. I would even go as far as to say that every episode in the second half as this season has been good. I like Heroes. I would say "Company man" is a damn fine hour of television and one of the best episodes of any show this tv season. Still, the show will no doubt have a short shelflife. You think Heroes will even be remotely watchable during a sixth season? I guess you also think Nathan Fillion is one of the greatest actors of his generation and that Joss weapon is a God among insects.

I like 24 and I like Heroes, but face it, in time a show begins to turn into a parody of itself. Like the X-Files. First five seasons great, second two good, last two I stopped watching. These shows only have a certain shelf life. While this hasn't been the best season of 24, I don't get the absolute hate. Amazing how quick people turn. It won't surprise me if Heroes gets this much hate 3 or 4 seasons from now when the next big thing comes along. But, after all it's a television show people. It's not the end of the world. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAH... heh.. HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAHAAH AHAAHHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH AHAHAHA

ok, now that's out of my system, I can rant along.

so first of, up till this season, I didn't likae 24.

I fucking loved it.

I used to stay avake all night long, just to catch the torrent the moment it goes up (usually around 6 AM), then crashed, cought couple hours of sleep, woke up and watched the episode.

now? well, not so much.as someone else pointed out, watching it is just a matter of habbit. this weeks episode was on my hdd all day long, I watched it an hour ago only because I was bored out of my mind. wish I didn't, though.

this was bad. very bad. very very bad. but then again, so were last 10 or so episodes. what bothered me the most is the fact they ditched another one of the characters that made me put up with bullshit dialoges and plots 45 minutes per week.

so, let's see... this season they offed manning, prolly killed logan, made pierce go buy groceries on the day a NUCLEAR FRAKKING BOMB went off (they should've just killed him as well, it would be less embarrassing), heller and mike are MIA, and now they fired bill (as someone above mentioned, space: above and beyond ftw!). ok, so now that leaves us with... erm, well, with chloe. and maybe nadia. ok, and powers boothe, but they might've as well casted a cardboard with "shady VP with a selfish agenda, ment to mess with jack's plans" writen all over it. fuckin' waste of talent...

every. other. character. needs. to. die.

oh. and if there actually are any fayboys left, I guess they're gonna say something like "last season we saw deaths of palmer (the I-give-a-fuck-about one), michelle and (as it seemed back then) tony in the first 15 minutes of the very first episode". yes, my dear basement residents, we did. but bask then it their deaths were the driving force of the entire season. departures in this one are just sloppy writing.

i think it was the first episode of heroes, maybe the 2nd, but it had that guy crawling around on the floor of his apartment with that girl looking for something, and they accidentally almost bumped into each other and kissed, with the awkward sexual tension you can expect from a hillary duff movie

this show HAS to have gotten better or else people wouldn't be talking about it still, but i'm sorry, i expected the next episode to have those two eating spaghetti together and then they meet in the middle of the noodle like lady and the tramp.
they've set themselves up well with adding Malcolm Mcdowell to the cast, now all they need is for the Shat and Gurney Xavier to show up and kill him before the nexus hits veridian 3.

i'm quite sure that dumber shit has happened in 24 than chang getting away with that chip, WE'RE IN SEASON 6. heroes fans are jealous that Jack is a way better superhero than their heroes, but without the powers. theres no reason to be embarassed, i mean, batman is the most hardcore justice league member, and he's just a man too! get over it.
