Hell, I'll do it. I work on the camera side of the business, but I'd be happy to operate in some capacity for AICN if it meant that the greatest city in the world, and the region where the film business was BORN, had a chance to be represented on this site.

In 2006, NYC logged a total of 34,718 location shooting days; Los Angeles had 56,125 in 2006. In 2002, NYC registered a 14-year low of 14,898 because of the terrorist attacks on the WTC. While LA continues to experience a decline in feature film production, NYC is busy as hell.

Tribeca Film Festival...fast becoming one of the best in the country (bless you, Robert DeNiro).

One thing New Yorkers love to do is go to the movies. We don't drive to them. We walk to them. Cars are for the weak.

I lived in LA for 25 years, and I used the subway system whenever I could, but it seems it was designed more for tourists than for working stiffs. And don't disabuse yourself about LA...a helluva lot happens there, I know from experience. Thank to Mori, people who come to this site know that something happens out here, occasionally. I suppose it's only fair, after the bias east coasters have against anything west of the Hudson River.

Tonight I watched the very excellent film of Vonnegut's great "Slaughterhouse 5" and I am having trouble sleeping because it's still banging away inside my skull. After all these years, it's still one of the best book-to-screen adaptations ever produced.

There was a decent crowd, though not even close to filling the place up, but I felt that those in attendance were a receptive bunch. The filmmakers made a video greeting specifically for the NYC screening; it was funny, and made me thirsty (they encouraged us to have a beer, and even though I don't drink, they were a persuasive pair).

I won't give a review, but some very quick impressions...starts off sharp, funny, and disgusting (good disgusting) but hit a slow patch once the hero was full-grown. The visuals were much better than I expected. Thank goodness the film steered clear of sentimentality or "emotions." It started crazy-gross and finished with a bang. If movies were bars, this would be one of those bars that reeks of booze and vomit, but it's where you have a helluva time, where you get your ass kicked and like it, and go back for more.
