I don't trust Fox. The fact that they've been so vague adn rushed to give even more vague answers after the could rumor leaked makes me think Galactucus is definitely a crowd, adn Fox knows they're fucked and are panicking as to what to do. I just don't get who thinks this is a good idea? Who goes to bed at night thinking "Hey, that iconic Galactus character, we should not only change his appearance, but make him a completely different state of matter! Incidentaly, and this may have been addressed in "Spider-Man 3" talbacks already but I don't want to read them ahead of seeing the film, shouldn't David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane get credits alongside Stan and Jack in the "Spider-Man 3" opening credits? Well heres a scoop for you asshole, YOU HAVEN"T SEEN IT EITHER!!..You have absolutely no fucking clue as to what Galactus will be...NONE of you do! Why dont the studios just make it easier for all you whining fanboys and just open a website to let you read the scripts and not bother with making a movie. This way no one ever has to go to a theater again and actually enjoy a film with surprises and plot twists....Wouldnt life be sooo much better if we just let a bunch of, "I live in my parents basement" types make all the movie choices on which movie is good and which is bad based on rumors, plants, fuzzy pictures or who was/wasnt nice to Harry and the rest of the AICN staff. ...and there's not much you can do about it. FF1 made money, X3 made money, GHOST RIDER made money. All dumb movies pitched at a wide audience. Joe Public doesn't care what Galactus looks like, and Fox knows that it doesn't have to pander to a specific geek audience . The pity is that it could do thing right, and still make a mass-market flick that turns a healthy dollar. Both BATMAN BEGINS and SUPERMAN RETURNS did just that. Neither film's perfect, but they both at least respect the material and their respective fanbases and make make money too. Bottom line: Fox - blame them. As long as people are paying to see their dumbass FF flicks, and as long as movies like ELEKTRA break even at the box office (worldwide, of not domestic) this will continue.

to say that Superman Returns is comparable to Batman Begins: "Neither film's perfect, but they both at least respect the material and their respective fanbases and make make money too." SR neither respected the source material NOR the fanbase. All it did was blatantly rip off the '78 Donner film and turn Superman into an ass who knocks up Lois Lane, abandons her and Earth for seven years, stalks her once he finally came back and finds out she's in another relationship and then, upon discovering that he's the real father of her son, says "I'll be around" and flies off! And it DIDN'T make any money: that overpriced monstrosity BARELY broke even. And rightfully so. If it can be compared to ANY Batman film, it would have to be Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin — which similarly aped the 1966 Batman TV show in its campy tone — NOT Batman Begins, a film which actually REVITALIZED the franchise and brought it back to its dark comic roots.

Yeah, but consider the material. Transformers was just an early/middle '80's half hour toy commercial. The Fantastic Four has been around since the earth was flat; and way before comics and cartoons were created for the sole purpose of selling merchandise. The way FF is being handled runs a little deeper than how Transformers is being done. Although there are obviously those who care a great deal about Transfromers and what Michael Bay is doing with it. Still FF is a much more long standing property; and its' images are far more iconic.

I'm not a follower of the FF comic, but I enjoyed the movie as just a fun superhero adventure film. I'd say Hulk was the worst, not because of Ang Lee's direction, which was superb and the most artistic style yet in the comic book films, but just because the writing wasn't interesting. I've never been a Hulk fan anyway. I mean, I like the idea of the Hulk, but he's not a character I can see following from story to story. Maybe the next one will win me over though. Also liked Daredevil, so I guess I'm a minority on these things.

Obsession with basements?....Good one. I mentioned that twice in how many years? My point was that im sick of people deciding that a movie will be horrible, craptastic, utter shit (or shite to our english friends) and worst ever, wont make a dime based on...(wait for it)... NOTHING. Someone hears a rumor from someones friends next door neighbors kid who thought he heard....etc...etc. Maybe these movies arent perfect (and no I dont work for Marvel....Lord knows I wish I did) and as a lifelong comic fan I wish they didnt stray from the comics and adapted these movies just for me, but, hey thats life. Am I happy about organic web spinners...NO....Did I like a 25 ft. Hulk...NO...Did I like the Punisher in Florida...NO...but, I would rather have these movies made then never to see them at all, and there have been some excellent adaptations. EX: Batman Begins and Sin City. There is no way ever that 100% of every fan is going to agree on a movie. Everyone has their own image in mind of who should play the character, who is the ideal director, what story they should use from the comics, etc. It would just be nice if people waited until at least a trailer (longer than 30 seconds) came out before they start complaining like their life depends on the movie. (Alot of people actually liked the new F4 trailers, including this site...but mention an unsubstantiated cloud rumor and we are back to, "This movie will tank".."This movie will suck!!") You are probably a great example of this. You actually had nothing better to do than to google my name to see how many times i've posted and what I said. I might have actually cared what you had to say if you had offered an opinion, but I guess that type of thought is a lot harder than going to Google. BTW, the post you did refer to was to give my opinion on a poster that sounded like they hadnt even reached the "See Spot...See Spot Run" stage of life in their education. Ask a child and you might get that big robed guy with a long white beard image. (Kirby's Odin). An adult who's less certain about pretending to know the unknowable will mumble something about God being "all around" or "an invisible presence" or even a force as opposed to an entity. Ask Jack Kirby and you git a blue and purple giant with a top hat and a huge "G" monogram on his Texan belt buckle. An interesting, colorful comic book image, but would that really work in a live action/CGI movie, or would it seem laughable. As opposed to, say, Galactus as an ethereal, unstoppable, destructive force of nature. Y'know, just askin'. (Okay, "Galactus as God" may not be canon, for obvious reasons of taste and sales, but that was the impression I got when I first read Fantastic four 48-50: The FF versus the most powerful, most unstoppable force in the universe. And I can see that force portrayed as "the heavens" more easily than as some big galloot in a Pope hat.

I dont think all you do is complain about movies at all. As a matter of fact, I pretty much agree with most of your reviews and opinions...especially what you just wrote. I agree 110% about Tom Rothman and FOX. My rant in all reality really wasnt specifically aimed at you (even though I admit it reads that way and I still dont agree with the way the cloud rumor was handled...but I get hot-headed like everyone else apparently...may be time for me to up the Lithium). It was more for those that will grab onto a rumor and start the whining and complaining immediately. Ive been reading this site religiously for years and I'm still astounded that this is the majority mindset. When it comes to the fanboys im all for lets agree to disagree, provided that the argument is based on fact. Will F42 be great?...I dont know, I have no idea...but...I do know that I havent read nor seen enough yet to form a truly intelligent opinion based on fact. Someone put the links to some Alex Ross art a while back dealing with Galactus and it's a design that was ridiculous and would cause people to pee themselves with laughter if that was brought onto the big screen to begin with but then again, IT'S A COMIC BOOK CHARACTER. I think what FF2 is really about is testing the waters with the Silver Surfer to give him his own series of films.

I would kill to have the execs stick to the core material and not deviate...but that just aint gonna happen in the real world. Too many egos at play (directors, writers, useless execs, producers and more useless execs to name a few). I have a great love for and have been collecting comics since I was 9...I have over 32,000 issues in my present collection, soooooo, dont you think I want to see it done perfect for once?????...but...What are we suppose to do?...The complaining doesnt work. If it did (with the advent of the internet) it would have worked by now (not saying that a few properly done complaints havent helped in a minority of cases...Like the campaign to not have Optimus have lips, cuz thats just wrong...horribly horribly wrong)...These are just self-important people in the business that just want a cash cow franchise (plus, and this is not to defend these ruiners of dreams by ANY means, they do have to try for a mass appeal..and a lot of that mass are kids...not every movie goer knows the F4. Its actually only us hard core fans who know the material by heart and that care so deeply....try and explain to a 6 year old why Ghost Rider wasn't as cool as he should have been...or how they should have CGI'ed/not CGI'ed the Thing...they dont care!) So, what's our alternative? Not go to these movies??...What will that prove?...All it will accomplish is that these moron execs will just say, "Ok..the comic book genre movie doesnt work...ummm, lets try westerns again". I would grudgingly rather see a somewhat trampled upon version of comics I love than never see anything at all. Someday, in a perfect world, when the unicorns run wild and there are elves and Hobbits...when they hang the lawyers and studio execs are used for skeet shooting plates thats when we will get the perfectly adapted comic movie.

First of all the whole premise is just silly but Galactus as a human makes the whole thing even sillier. I think many people on here underestimate the talkbacks as being nothing more than fanboy and hater input when in fact it can very much predict whether or not a movie is worth its salt. Just by having Fox scramble around to cover their fuckups is a testament to the fact that the Talkbacks and AICN are invaluable sources of consumer reports and reviews of films be it upcoming or in theaters. With that said, I think having Galactus be just a cloud is a kick in the balls to the people who have read and followed the Fantastic Four over the years and even with the Not-so-Fantastic Four sequel (abortion) coming out. Seriously if any of Fox's execs are reading this anser this question: Why do you people keep Tom Rothman as the head of studios? Seriously, the man has made nothing but bad decisions regarding many of Fox 's films but even your own employees are afraid to say anything over fear of being let go with predjudice. The solution? Either delegate Rothman to a lower post or just fire the man. He has no creative wisdom, imposes himself on every film made by Fox and is generally bad for business. You could have made millions more by having another X-Men sequel but the very fact that it was stopped in its tracks by bad decision making clearly tells me that somethig is wrong with the management. Yes it would be an expensive film to make but the profits reaped at the end of the day would be worth it, especially if it is made by a director who understands the history of the book and has some respect for the source material. Now with Fantastic Four, you could have made a lot more money with the last film with a better director, screenwriter, etc. but you chose to go the cheap route and it cost you. Now you're doing it again and I can almost guarantee this movie will be a flop. You heard it here first. Could I do a better job than ol' Tommy Boy? I'm sure when it comes to genre films almost the whole lot of the talkbacks would make the company millions, if not billions.

...Boondock Devil is right--a strict interpretation of Galactus as drawn by Kirby would be laughable. But dammit, surely we can get something that a) isn't a fucking cloud, and b) at least looks a little like the original character design. Maybe a more or less giant human shaped form, composed of light (and yes, purple and blue light), with a head shaped sort of like the original Galactus' helmet? Whatever. There are undoubtedly better designers who could come up with a good concept for the character that updates the look while still paying tribute to the original. Instead, we're getting a fucking cloud.
